Still working on that level-up and an ic post.

I've been remiss in not leveling or posting. My bad. I will work on the leveling right now, and then try to get in a gameplay post.

Okay. I leveled up. Man, I had forgotten to use like 30% of my abilities. Like free spell from greater bloodrage, and you know, feats and stuff. I suck. Did it with HeroLab so at least my math should be correct.

Astraden did an off-screen summary here.

Liberty's Edge

Was getting off the bus so I didn't get a chance to add - I personally have no problem making the assumption that Carina was absent for that reveal, I know you don't have the luxury of being comedically ignorant like Astraden was with Carina's translations.

Female Kobold

It's probably unnecessary, but just to be clear, the Nyr Dyv is that gigantic lake that you've traveled to the northeast end of. It's said to be bottomless, and for an idea of its vastness, the Free City is basically on the far side from you.

I believe she can get 5 in total (herself and four others). She'd have to make a couple trips.

In addition to being generally cooler, shadow walk allows us to move the whole party at once. I say we use Eben's shiny new spell.

Shadow Walk also has a lot of utility beyond Teleport, since you can use it to go places you've never been before.

It's just a solid spell.

The only real drawback is the risk of catching the attention of Nightshades.

Honestly? Yes.

Nightshades are cool, and MY players never hit the chance to randomly get blasted by a Nightshade when THEY Shadow Walk...

Female Kobold

I think it's a safe bet to say that if it's a cool undead, it will probably show up in the AP at some point. I even managed to jam a hullathoin in at one point. That's how you know how invested I am in this creature type.

That said, bear in mind what terrain type you're heading towards before you start asking for nightshades. ;P

RPG Superstar 2010 Top 32, 2011 Top 4

Right, Zal can do four passengers at a time, so it would be three trips for her to move the whole party. But, she now has six spell slots, so she can do it. But, she gets much more distance: she can go up to 1,400 miles, I can only manage 750 (and that's with a whole day of walking + a bit of forced marching) But the advantages you guys point out are there as well. Plus we can drag a whole slew of NPCs around with us, if needed (like if we wanted to bring Clunk to negotiate with the hurricane).

I'm definitely taking greater heroism, I think, so that leaves me with two 5th level spells known for the double leveling. I think I'll go with shadow walk. It will probably push back shadow evocation (which I want for versatility) by a level or two, but no biggie, really.

And I'm willing to bet we can handle a nightwave, if it comes at us. :-)

Did anyone end up taking Avolakia? That is a language we can take, right, regardless of what Celeste thinks about it?

The Gateway Grove, The Isle of Last Resort

I know Pathfinder is pretty cavalier with language acquisition, but Avolakia is pretty close to a secret language. It's really hard to find someone who speaks it, or even reads it, and learning it is basically like creating a vaccine for the common cold or flu: By the time you've got a grip on it, it's already mutated into something nearly unrecognizable. So I'll let you learn it, but I'm still going to require, let's say, DC 20 Linguistics checks to read or understand it.

Speaking it is gonna require a polymorph, too. :P

By the way, this segment of the adventure is fairly open-ended and PC-driven. It's your call how you want to get to the island, what preparations you take, even when you leave, if you want to leave early or later. Your choice between leaving immediately, leaving within a day-ish, or taking your time to get something lined up, will have significant impacts on the adventure, of course.

The point being, consider this one big Play-By-Post "door". Aside from NPC prompts (and the directions, which Lashonna will provide but essentially amount to "here's the coordinates, it's in the big pond"), there's nothing else you actually need from me. It's up to you to decide when it's time to end deliberations and set out.

When I said that there aren't gonna be a lot of pauses going forward, I meant it. At this point, the AP has introduced a pretty core objective: Finding Dragotha's phylactery. That objective is going to be actively pursued by multiple factions going forward, and if the PCs sleep on it, there might be consequences. This doesn't mean you have to be on the run every moment, just that the days of "let's take a brief detour to save Diamond Lake from a dragon" are behind you.

Thanks for the heads up; it's always a bit jarring when an Adventure Path suddenly goes from "Choo Choo!" to "What do you do?".

OK, so laying down some cash and having Astraden scribe a bunch of scrolls of spell immunity is probably off the table.

So, did you all sell the wands?

I will note, by the way, that Nihil has one point of minor utility that might make you more inclined to keep it: It's basically a long-range 8d6 damage effect that can conceal itself perfectly from ordinary detection. Of course, that's only going to be especially useful if you expect to be captured or otherwise forced to disarm, but it's there. It is also around 9k gp that could be spent on more directly useful items.

Liberty's Edge

Male Underpowered Warrior 1

IIRC we weren't selling them without finding a Good buyer first. But the only one who can use both of them is an NPC as well, so . . . maybe we should ask Manzorian to take care of them?

Liberty's Edge

It occurs to me that Manzorian may have an unfortunate history with Drawmij that rules out using his storage... Agath, then?

What would it take to find a buyer who would take care of the wands rather than just using them up? Is there anyone who runs like a home for lost toys cursed intelligent magic items?

That'd be a good question for Knowledge checks or helpful NPC lore experts.

After consultation with KC, I think Zalamandra is also ready to level up!

Max cohort level attracted is 14, but (per discussion with KC, since we're not running with XP and she can't level with us) we're going with keeping Zalamandra at level 13.

I feel like I recently went shopping for Cuetzpalli and I only have 5k listed on my sheet. Did I miss a payout? I thought we like went shopping early and said it wouldn't actually happen in game until we went back to town.

Unless we have a lot more money that I'm missing somehow, I'm good to move on.

RPG Superstar 2010 Top 32, 2011 Top 4

The last payout was here. Did you ever add the cash to your character sheet? (I know you saw it, since you replied in the next post...)

I don't think we've formally gone shopping in-game, but you did post a shopping list for about 32K worth of items a couple of posts further down the line; maybe you already deducted for them and that's where the money went?

Ah, I never wrote that down. I should probably also give my level-up synopsis at some point.

Let's see. Sifting through the gear tables is my leats favorite part of creating a character, both as a GM and as a player. Let's make this easy.

Gear:

Upgrade Scimitar to +4 Keen (22k)
Upgrade Shield to +4 Shocking Burst (11k)

Levels:

+2 levels of Warder

Gained 8th level Maneuvers
Traded a Maneuver to gain an extra one of a higher level. Don't remember which; it was one I never used and this was months ago at this point.
Gained a new Maneuver by leveling
Gained two extra Maneuvers from Feat: Advanced Study (taken at 15).

Maneuvers Gained: Spinning Adamantine Axe (7th), War Lion's Charge (7th), Heart of the time Lord (8th).

New Stance: God of the Hourglass Stance

God of the Hourglass Stance wrote:

Discipline: Riven Hourglass (Stance); Level: 8
Prerequisites: Three Riven Hourglass maneuvers
Initiation Action: 1 swift action
Range: Personal
Target: Self
Duration: Stance

DESCRIPTION

Your control over your own time-stuff allows you to isolate your Hourglass from reality, causing you to move with unparalleled speed and grace and affording you protection from those who would manipulate your quintessence. While you maintain this stance, you are immune to the slow spell and similar effects, and you cannot become fatigued or exhausted. You can always act during a surprise round, even if you’re caught unaware, and if an ally or opponent uses a time stop spell or similar effect while you are within 50 feet of them you can take a single standard action during the duration of that spell or effect. In addition, you may take an additional move or standard action during your turn.

Oh yeah.

Gained +2 BaB, +2 Fort and Will saves, +1 Reflex save.

Gained a fourth use of Extended Defense, an ability I have never used because I'm paranoid about needing it again later even with 3 uses per day. D'oh. Well and also because it's kinda janky in Play by Post, as Counters in general tend to be. It's why I trend toward the Riven Hourglass ones that let you nope the AFTER EFFECTS of an attack instead of the ones that use opposed rolls to negate attacks and spells.

Gained Steel Defense. TL;DR if an attack would take me to 0 HP, I can redirect the damage to my armor or shield instead, which can potentially break or destroy it.

+2 to all those skills I already had 13 ranks in.

Also IIRC something about Action Points changed at this level? What was that again?

Good point. We should probably figure out an alternative solve for the inevitable blasphemies we're walking into.

Are there any tricks Farrukh can pull to help with this? He's just about immune to everything at this point, right? Is there a way he can share that immunity with the party?

My other suggestions were in this post.
