So, KC, you've said that Astraden can spend an AP to combine her breath of life attempt with Carina's syringing. Could Carina (if she's so inclined) spend an AP to act out of turn and throw a dispel bomb before the flail gets to have another go at Astraden?
(And does Grin have Dispel in his arsenal as a hail mary pass in case Carina can't manage it?)

Gah... shit always happens in-game right as shit happens IRL. I was working on Zalamandra's post for like, a week? But never got a chance to finish it. And now it's overdue for Astraden again.
Anyways, I won't bother with excuses (other than the happy ones: I've had two promising job interviews at places that would get me closer to the town where my partner is studying, and also I just had a driving test that went really well despite panicked late-night studying), and will just start working on Astraden's post!!!

I don't think there was any kind of elaborate plan to get back out of the pit, really. (Admittedly, we thought it might be more than just a one-room pit and I, at least, assumed we might be spending the night down here.) 'Zaℓamandra teleports us out' was as far as I thought, but given that she's already telported once out of her four 5th-level spell slots, today, and can only carry three people with her per casting, we might be a little bit short on teleports. (One to get three people out, Z teleports back, teleports another three people out... leaving one stranded. Sorry, Grin....) I think Astraden has a word of recall set, but that zaps us back to Magepoint, no?
Aside from that, the only things I had on the agenda before the banquet were the obvious pre-banquet activities. (Picking up our clothes, those of us that made hair appointments getting them done, Eben at least was getting his 'gift' for Zeech customized, etc.)

One thing I forgot to recap: Remember how Dragotha stole the obsidian spire thing Kyuss was trapped in?
The "Grand Project" Zeech is building looks extremely similar to the Spire of Long Shadows. I actually recommend reading through the next 10-15 posts after this, too, as it gives useful recapping on what your plans were when meeting Zeech at the Banquet.

Sorry for the posting delay. Been bogged down with schoolwork.
How many Spellcraft checks do I need to roll?

Cuetzpalli |

I am heading out of state later today to look at more houses this weekend. Don't expect any posting from me until Sunday or Monday.

Just about a year ago.

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

Other than pick up our new digs I don't know that there's anything else we need to do.
Did we determine if it's customary to bring a gift for the host to this kind of party?

Carina Viera |

I think we did. Carina will spend some time gift-wrapping her old mithril chain shirt to give.

Yeah. I think Tanith actually already bought something specifically for it?
Edit: Yeah, we all got that taken care of already. For reference:
Farrukh found a mechanus bubble.
Tanith found a singing walking stick.
Cuetzpalli is gifting a complete abomination against man and nature.
And then three of us are being cheapskates and just regifting: Carina her chain shirt, Eben his ring of feather falling, in a slightly gussied-up form (via illusion and transmutation work done by Iomandi), and Astraden's giving her old, dinged up adamantine dagger (I'm pretty sure we talked her out of tripping it with a Drawmij's instant summons spell first.)

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

Thanks for digging that up Danke.
I guess, other than hiring our planner, we're ready to party. Did we find out how our fancy clothing turned out already?

Cuetzpalli |

Yes, thank you for the reminder.

Cuetzpalli |

Driving again this weekend.

Kobold Catgirl |

By the way, have you all got the jewelry/accessories you already bought written down? For instance, the ioun couatls, the lava droplets, etc.
And since it's been a while and people might have legitimately forgotten about it, I'll note that the Lootlist might be worth updating soon. It hasn't been updated since Spire of Long Shadows, when we finished that installment ten years ago. No big hurry, though—it won't be super relevant until the end of the Banquet.

Oh, yeah, Astraden took the Mask of the Sun. She'll wear it as best she can.

Kobold Catgirl |

Not at all. I forgot to mention it, but you were disarmed when you entered the Palace. Anyone who wanted to sneak something in can feel free to make a check—obvious weapons, wands and wondrous items, extradimensional spaces and any commonly known dangerous spell components (like bat guano and sulfur, for instance) were taken. They might also make something of a gesture towards Astraden's holy symbol, but they wouldn't push it if she objected. Gifts are exempt. They didn't take your hands, either.
Anyone who wants to try to sneak something in can roll Sleight of Hand (or Bluff, if appropriate), but getting caught might give you a penalty on interactions or the like. It won't get you kicked out, but you'll look bad. We'll say Carina gets a +10 bonus to Bluff if she wants to keep her bombs, since a lot of people don't really know how alchemy works.
The weapons are taken by Watchers, who had them placed in pe-cast secret chests—one for each group, so your chest was pretty crammed. They gave you the chest replica for safekeeping (you can recall it at any time) but kept the key.

I know this installment has gone on way too long at this point, and I appreciate you guys' patience throughout it. Open-ended urban areas are kind of my big weakness when it comes to pacing and general bloat avoidance. That said, I'm very much enjoying the ways you're roleplaying reactions to the Banquet, and I do hope the Banquet itself will be fun for everyone.

Your summary more-or-less has it—you last saw Smenk when Tanith mercy-killed him, since Zyrxog had infested his brain with baby Zyrxogs. Filge popped up at a magic curiosities shop a few "days" ago, even though you'd last seen him killed by Zyrxog. Astraden tried to scry him, but the spell was blocked by something like nondetection or more powerful magic. He was carrying a box with a single owl pellet, possibly belonging to his dead owl familiar. Eben stole it.
It's worth noting that you parted ways with Filge on marginally better terms than with Smenk—you'd sort of saved him incidentally before Zyrxog caught him and ate his brains, and made some vaguely helpful gestures towards you a couple times. If you had to be trapped on a desert island with one of the a@*+#s who hates you and tried to kill you, Filge just might make the top five.
The confusion over Filge being dead might partially be because when you first captured the guy, Tanith and Farrukh argued over whether to kill him after torturing some information out of him, since Tanith felt it would be unsporting to kill the necromancer after promising his freedom and Farrukh felt it was a bad idea to risk a recurring villain. Less a "moral dilemma" and more an ethical dilemma, really. You did end up letting him go.

Sorry I haven't caught up on posting, folks. It's exam week at school.

Cuetzpalli |

I am coming up on a big move, so my posting may be spotting for the next while as well.

For this contest--are the bolts provided for us silvered?

DankeSean RPG Superstar 2010 Top 32, 2011 Top 4 |

I am kinda curious how this is intended to break down by design. Given that the crossbows have 5 bolts and require a full round action to reload, the only way to actually outscore Zeech here would be full attack round one, reload the partially empty clip on round 2, then full attack round three (like Farrukh did & I semi-copied). But, given that at this level even full BAB martials have 3 attacks tops, that means you could at best tie Zeech. You could squeeze in an extra shot with Rapid Shot (or a surreptitious haste, or Farrukh's stance or something similar...), but even then, given the damage limitations of crossbow bolts, you'd likely need to be a specialist in this particluar weapon to score a few extra points to beat that DR. Am I doing the math right here? Is this meant to be a near-unwinnable competition unless the party happens to have a Rapid Shot-using, repeating crossbow focused and specialized, full BAB type?
(Not complaining, because it probably is totally in Zeech's nature to set up a challenge only he could win, just wondering.)
