If we do I'm totally playing a mutant fleshwarp who outwardly looks like a totally typical member of their original ancestry.

I really want Wyvarans and Lashunta and ... a lot of other things.

But part of me more than anything else wants Paizo to go back and add more feats to existing ancestries.

A lot of the post core options feel really anemic if you aren't running a versatile heritage to expand your feat pool. The new skeletons have two options per tier except at 1 and 9.

I know it's not the default assumption of the game, but ancestral paragon is an official variant rule (albeit of more middling popularity, from my ancedotal experience) and there are barely enough feats for a lot of the newer ancestries to even pull it off, which can make versatile heritages feel even more necessary (and even then, the versatile heritages aren't really built equally in terms of options and flexibilty either).

Ghorans are at the top of my list at the moment, but I suspect they'll be included in the upcoming Impossible Lands book so I'm just gonna relax and be patient about them.

Hmmm, it depends a little on what you are asking? I know that Half-Ogres exist for example, but they're the offsprings of ogres and other giant ancestries, like trolls, hill giants, etc. I'm also pretty sure that giantkin is the umbrella term for giant ancestries in general (titans, ogres, trolls, cyclopes, etc) but I'm guessing you're using it as a correlation to geniekin, right? Correct me if I'm presuming wrong. :B

I'm pretty sure that there was no playable giantkin ancestry in the first edition, at least. The closest that we got were the Trox, I think.

Yeah, I haven't ever seen anything like a half-giant or Goliath in Pathfinder either, which is unfortunate. Although there is one thing that already exists that could make an awesome alternative, I think — probably best implemented as a versatile heritage.

I do think both are inevitable at some point, but I’m wondering how much Duskwalkers and Fetchlings/Kayal eat up the design space of Samsarans and Wayangs.

The gazeteer for Triaxus has some wonderful hooks for ancestries--"serpentkin with divine power coursing through their veins" etc. I've pondered what sort of design the Triaxians would have to differentiate them and am not certain, but I'd love to see the PF2e take.

I don't remember who originally suggested it, but someone suggested a beetle-like or scarab-like ancestry and I've been quietly jonesing for one of those ever since.

One thing I really want to see is a bunch more heritages that really stretch what existing ancestries in the world can be like. Dwarves for example, have gotten so much more interesting and more colorful since just the Mwangi expanse book. Elves too. I love getting new ancestries as well, I just hope that we continue to get old ancestries in new places that are doing totally new and interesting things as we expand through the lost Omens books. Like I love how the sprite can be almost any creature that is fey and small, Fleshwarps and automatons fit this space as well. I hope we get more horizontal growth and not too much here is a new ancestry who just really exist in one small place in the world and can barely be justified as having more than 2 or 3 heritages and we only ever get 5 or 6 ancestry feats for with no future expansion.

List of a bunch of random ideas/ wants I've had rattling in my head:

Spoiler:

  • "Humanoid" Starfish, complete with regenerative limbs and a large, singular eye. Maybe extraterrestrial aberration?
  • Humanoid Axolotl, small in size, big in cuteness (seen very cute art of these recently, but I've also seen them as a playable option in a Kickstarter of some sort and thought "that is a fantastic idea")
  • Beings of living mana/magic, whose Heritages are tied to the various traditions, practices, and schools of magic
  • Similarly, maybe better suited for Starfinder: Beings of living plasma, formed at the stellar core of stars. Their Patron deity itself being an sentient, living star. (I.E: Novakids from Starbound, essentially)
  • Nymphs. PF2's manner of handling them as a singular family of creatures, further broken into specific examples is very similar to how Sprites have been handled, and feel like a shoe-in as an Ancestry.
  • Arboreal Saplings; medium in size with Feat options that allow them to be large. Heritages based on various roles or trees.
  • Insectoid people reminiscent to various species of beetles. Of all the insects, beetles seem to rarely get used within fantasy, despite being the largest order of insects.
  • Likewise, an Ancestry based on Lepidoptera could be neat. Aside from the obvious moths and butterflies as options, could even include caterpillars as an option; maybe explaining it through fantasy/magical reasons as to why they stay in their larval state. Or even a specific Larvae Heritage that you can switch out at any point to have them grow into a full grown Lepidopteran.
  • Bog Striders also seem like a fantastic insect based Ancestry.
  • An honest to goodness Fungus people. Mushrooms would be the simplest to utilize for this, I think. Could use something existing, like Vegepygmy or Myceloid, but could easily create a more PC friendly option.
  • Golems. Just Golems. With Heritage options based on the various types. Not ALL of the types, cause that would be insane (yet amazing). Iron, Stone, Wood, Flesh, Bone, Straw; as a few examples. Could handle things like Mythril and Adamantine Golems with Feats that can be applied to certain Heritages. Like Iron Golems can take something at certain level that basically makes them an Adamantine Golem, or Bone Golems become Fossil Golems.
  • Aquatic options. Period. Merfolk, Triton, Seaweed Leshy Heritage, Grindylow (Goblin Heritage?), Cecaelia, Locathah, Sahuagin. Nixie, Adaro, and/or Aquatic Elves come to mind.
  • I DESPERATELY want Tanuki as an option. I just fell in love with the art in Fist of the Ruby Phoenix and think they'd be perfect to round out the Tian-Xia Ancestries.
  • An official Draconic Ancestry and/or Heritage. Although, I am content with the BattleZoo additions.
  • Non-genie elemental Ancestries. Azer immediately come to mind, as do Xiomorn, Veela, and Ledalusca.
  • Ennosite related Ancestry/Heritage.
  • Nightshade related Ancestry/Heritage
  • And a slew of existing creatures that have potential or were options in 1e.

    Since you mentioned Starfinder in your spoiler I don't feel it's too off-topic to point out that a few of those ideas exist in SF already. Not saying they wouldn't be cool in PF2E, just that if you play both games and you're itching to be some of those things they already exist. (I'd post some of them now but it be late and Perp requires sleep.)

    Indeed. Some exist in Pathfinder in some form or fashion as well. They don't quite fit the ideas I have for them, however. That and, in the case of the Starfinder species, most of them likely exist (at this point in history) solely on their home planets, if they even exist at all.

    Granted, in the grand scheme of things, that could change at any point. After all, several of Starfinders species do exist on Golarion already, so it isn't a stretch to imagine other do as well. And I'm not necessarily opposed to their inclusion if they do; even if they aren't quite what I'm looking for.

    EDIT: Forgot to mention my Illithid-esque Cuttlefish people I've recently dreamt up. Adorable, yet deadly.

    It's probably been said earlier in the thread, but I can't wait for drow to become properly playable again, with maybe a half-drow versatile heritage thrown in for good measure. I got sooooo many ridiculous combos I wanna roleplay: tiefling drow! Aasimar drow! Oread drow! Maybe some kind of drorc or a drowarf if a GM is cool with it!

    *Drow-tiefling magus* Careful Sasuke, you might cut yourself with that much edge.

    But seriously, Drow/Aasimar or Drow/Duskwalker sounds absolutely hilarious given Drow culture, maybe even Drow/Aphorite!

    I've highly considered using an Elf with a theoretical Half-Drow Heritage to emulate not only the rare occurrence of an Elf transforming into a Drow, but also to serve as an expy of Marvel's Malekith the Accursed. Would be neat to maybe even see a series of Feats (or just an Archetype) based on the Darklantern Vigilante Archetype from 1e, allowing one to shift between the two Ancestries.

    Until then, may use the Ganzi Heritage.

    Eh, I’d say there’s a good argument for Rare - they mostly live far away (in the inaccessible Darklands) and were unknown enough to be a legend to most until the events of 1e. That, plus the adversarial dominant culture, means I can see them being as unlikely in the average surface adventuring party as a Shisk or Fleshwarp.

    You can always make a rarer thing more common in a specific context (like a specific adventure) but the opposite is harder to do.

    "Fleshwarps are common in the Mana Wastes" is just easier to make work than "Gnomes are rare in the Mana Wastes"

    I have to agree. Most Darklands Ancestries seem largely confined to the depths of Golarion. There are few, if any, examples of surface dwelling Drow, Duergar, or the like. That's even taking into consideration the few instances of Neutral groups or individuals that most PCs are likely to take the role of. They seem way more inclined to be interested in their own place or survival within the gloomy caverns and hidden vaults of their underground realm than they would be in anything going on upon the surface.

    Not to discount the predictable enigmatic, eccentric, erratic, and/or exiled examples common amongst players.

    The Mwangi book bumped Iruxi, Kobolds, and Orcs up to Common, while shifting Gnomes and Goblins up to Uncommon. It’s a fun tool! I’d like to see more places with local Rarity considerations.

    Believe it or not, I actually HAVE encountered at least one person with a drow half-orc character that they've got art of! They were even MORE main-character because they were a paladin/warlock multiclass (D&D-based)!

    Oh! I forgot one of my more recent obsessions: the Mbaiki! I'm not sure if they'd ever be considered for an Ancestry, but I am thoroughly interested in them! I REALLY want to see more of them as a whole, but would LOVE to play as one!

    They seem to be Humanoid Leopards who have a knack for divination and illusion magic and are maybe capable of taking on a quadrupedal form. Most of it reads as if they are simply quadrupeds altogether. But the appendix does suggest they are "Humanoid", so I'm making some inferences.

    Even then, beings with more than two legs are far and few between, and I for one welcome the idea. We have a few examples in things like the Grig Sprite, Hunter Automaton, and Anadi's true forms. Heck, could make some argument for Fleshwarps with extra legs, or even point towards Conrasu with their apparent lack thereof (they seem to have vines?). So I'd love a strictly four legged option!

    Whichever way they come, I want to see more of them. Playable or otherwise.

    Wow, super surprised no-one mentioned this yet. But what about an Awakened Creature ancestry?

    With a base like. +2 Str or Dex, +2 Cha, -2 Int. You can choose 25ft of x speed but if you choose other than land, your land speed becomes 5 ft. Low HP.
    Then the ancestries can based on different traits (like aquatic, predator, prey etc).

    Awakened Animals are interesting, but not my go to sort of character. I'd be open to them though. That and Awakened Plants/Fungus.

    I mean, if you examine it from the very roots, yes. Same could be said about an Awakened Animal and any animal themed Ancestry, or any Beastkin who was originally an animal.

    Difference would be that Leshy are spirits of nature (Vitae) given physical, while Awakened Plants would be existent life given sentience/sapience.

    As far as steps, I'd actually think it more difficult to bind a Vitae to a Leshy form with enough sentience/sapience to be more than a Familiar than it would to cast an Awaken Animal(or future Awaken Plant) Ritual.

    So, while I am more interested in Ancestries like Catfolk or Leshy, I can see the appeal and story potential of an Awakened Animal/Plant. ^^

    Why not expand on the beastkin? Upon a quick read, changing the natural weapon from jaw to... whatever suitable, and it would allow herbivores :P

    Beastkin isn't restricted to predatory animals. You can choose from any Creature with the Animal Trait and simply have your natural weapon match one of their attacks. Not only does this mean that the Beastkin is ever expanding with every new Animal we see added; but it also makes for some really interesting character builds story-wise.

    Owlbearkin. Turtlekin. Xotanispawnkin. Dogkin. Megaladonkin. Horsekin. Tyrannosauruskin.

    The list goes on. ^^

    I'd love for them to somehow open up them up to use some Beast Creatures. Had a recent idea for a Unicornkin. But alas, not possible.

    Beastkin could use some work. There's some mechanical weirdness with how their polymorph ability works.. and the feats/abilities you're allowed to pick up are limited by your choice of animal, which admittedly makes some sense thematically but also encourages players to game the system a bit because certain options are just objectively mechanically inferior.

    Kinda a hard sell that my Bullkin (also eligible with Animal Form) has to BITE in hybrid form instead of GORING :P

    Beastkin needs one of those level 1 feats that grants you an unarmed attack, I feel.
