Your agents come back with something subtle. There's a newcomer in Yanmass, and Earl by the name of Merkondus. He's got a shadow group of arrogant bravos who are ostensibly there investigating things too, but there's something fishy. They wander the city most mornings doing a piss poor job of investigating, but spend the afternoons and evenings drinking in their favorite tavern, the Whistling Wyvern. They're clearly skilled enough to be doing more.

Suddenly you have a vision! You're guarding a duke. You stand on the parapet looking down. Suddenly you see a man burst through the crowd. He rips a crossbow away from one of the guards. He kicks the man down and takes aim at the duke. There's no time. You can't get there. there's nothing between a quarrel and chaos. With a single breath you relax and take aim. The man shoots! You squeeze the trigger. your own bolt hurtles forward, striking the would-be-assassin's bolt and knocking it out of the air! Dignity's Barb grows stronger.

In addition, the wielder can attempt a lucky shot to foil a ranged attack. Once per day when a ranged weapon attack targets a creature within 30 feet of the wielder, the wielder can shoot Dignity’s Barb at the projectile as an immediate action. He rolls a ranged attack, and if the result exceeds the attacker’s roll, that attack is negated. This ability can be used only if Dignity’s Barb is loaded or if the wielder can use Rapid Reload or a similar ability.

It may be the longest trip back to home you've ever had, but it's fast enough. You return to the Lorespire Complex before news of Aucturn’s destruction has reached the Pact Worlds writ large. The Grindhold citizens you evacuated depart wordlessly onto Absalom Station in obvious shock. News of your adventure tests Ixthia’s moniker, as the copaxi is visibly rattled by the tale. They ask you to await a formal statement before sharing your experience with others, making mental health services within the Complex readily available for you.

Whisperer of Souls manifests during your debriefing, seeking to remain close to those it sees as omens from its divine friend. Ixthia is awestruck by the legendary artifact’s appearance, respectfully taking the weapon for cataloging and assignment.

I've been GMing Pathfinder since Season 0, and d20 RPGs since the late 1980s. When running organized play I always strive to "run as written", and I think it's important to do so...

    ....BUT

I've been running this game long enough to know that what matters the most is how long after the game players tell the stories. In slot 1 of Season 0 of Pathfinder at GenCon I did something WAY off book. The GM loved it enough that he left the table to check with Josh Frost, and awarded me a second prestige point for a good role-play of the Andoran faction and altered some stuff within the scenario. I STILL tell that story more than a decade later.

I'm also a school administrator during the day, and an experienced classroom teacher. Knowing the "why" behind the rules is how you know when to break them. I literally tell teachers this professionally. I think the proposed language captures this well. I had this same thought when I did the GM rubric for 5 novas. I whole heartedly support this.

Unrelated... I just now noticed that my stars/sigils/novas don't appear correctly. does that happen to others?

OR he is fully conscious with a mind frozen in time that is screaming with the constancy of the stone he has become." Davosh then shrugs nonchalantly and nibbles on a piece of jerky that he finds in a pocket.

Venn stops the party. The unnatural chair and general pall gives him a Bad Feeling.

"Give me a moment." He starts speaking words that even he doesn't understand. It's coupled with hand gestures of Old Magick. He closes his eyes and raises his chin as if looking over a field of tall grass for something hidden afar....

Primeval awareness. Venn suspects fey or undead.

Venn rolls his eyes at the thought of being famous. "Let's just get close, and take stock before we commit. We're burning daylight."

The commisary is honestly somewhat boring. Today they're serving "Dunklezahn's curried cucumbers" and "fried groznip wings."

Again, the people seem happy as can be.

[oooc]Back! The Gathering was amazing. The only one missing was Kaz. Also, I did toast to Jack early in the weekend.[/ooc]

The party talks over their plan before opting to simply go in and talk. Everyone knows it's going to take crackerjack timing and total concentration...

"Sure bub. Visitors can reserve automated shuttles daily to transport visitors to the prison, the trip taking about an hour from the nearby port city of Doba. However, weapons aren’t permitted on a shuttle. you'll need to leave them behind."

To bring weapons aboard, the you must smuggle them, which you can accomplish through two ways: a successful Sleight of Hand check (to hide the weapons in the passenger compartment); or a successful Engineering check (to disable security) followed by a successful Athletics or Engineering check (to open the shuttle’s cargo hold). Characters can assist these efforts with additional skill checks, such as Bluff (to distract guards), Computers (to hack cameras) or Disguise (to impersonate Tranquility staff).

Upon returning to Saltmarsh, Venn takes his leave for some time. He's not the carousing type, and he has thoughts on his mind. He take a stead and rides for the wood where he's been reflecting, or more accurately, brooding. The wood is just a couple leagues Northeast of Saltmarsh, still solidly in the Viscounty of Salinmore.

The scattered coppices of trees begin to come with rapidity, as if the Dreadwood was dripping trees South towards the equator. Venn knows the way well, despite not spending overmuch time there. It's time to check for progress....

The Oeridian lad Cenwiu catches the Pathfinder up, introducing him to a pair of equally wet-behind-the-ears half-elven brothers, Findanerdh and Gildeth. After hearing their tale, Venn welcomes them formally to the Triskelion. He then gathers all eight of the defenders, "As you know the largess of civilization is as fragile as a butterfly wing. It is only made possible through the vigilance of Those Who Know. Our merry band is growing, and I just want you to know that I have secured the materials to build a Grand Hall where we can convene for reports, sport, and succor! I have spared no expense. You should have seen the looks I got when a simple Pathfinder dropped 300 griffons!"

After the handshakes and hugs finish, Venn grabs Liamath and Luce to hunt for a meal for all. "Soon we will actually sit at tables like fat aristocrats!"

The Venn of his band is a different man than the one who adventures with others, the one who stopped an army with heroes. Even taciturn men o'the woods need to uncoil from time to time.

The Fort of the Triskelion Fellowship, AKA "The Triskelion" is still quite new, boasting little more than a barracks, a garden, and a ranger's kitchen. Still, it's the start of something.
