As if on cue Rishae Tulvauran enters the foyer. You remember her as a no-nonsense information broker. "Oh hello everyone! It's so good to see you! Welcome! Are you here for incarceration? I hope so. It's the best thing to ever happen to me. Everyone here is just so delightful. You want a tour?"
Angel. |
Engineering: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28
Before we get into conversation, Angel lets everyone know the weapon disabling effect should wear off in 24 hours.
Aldo Cygnaurius |
"Yes, a tour would be helpful." As Aldo walks, he strikes up the conversation. "Ms. Tulvauran, forgive me for my surprise, but I have never seen a jail like this. This looks like a vacation spot and not an incarceration center. What exactly is the catch? Why is everything so lovely here? Is this like a gilded cage where the facilities are nice but you still cannot get away? Do you actually have any freedom here?"
Game Master S |
You also think a skilled engineer could geta weapon working again with a minute's worth of work. It just would be.... obvious.
"Oh excellent! Where would you like to go first? The game room? The commissary? The bathroom? The sleeping wuarters are boring, and the examination room isn't very interesting. Where to?"
Aldo Cygnaurius |
"The game room sounds splendid. Lead us onward."
Although Aldo is cheerful and receptive to this tour, he hides his suspicion that this is a complete trap.
Is Rishae happy to answer questions or is she being deceptive?
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Kazador Agudo Garrez |
is my frag grenade analog? Was having trouble finding that answer?
Kaz walks around with the others, he isnt sure what is off. He keeps calm and does his best to observe.
Perception 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Game Master S |
Items which ARE analog have it in the description. If you look at the "Special" column, it'll say. In SF, the grenades use circuits. So they are NOT analog.
Kaz sees a bunch of people acting more like they're at a resort than a prison. Aldo gets a bad feeling. She's acting like her mind has been scrambled. She seems to truly be the person in front of you, which is a radical departure. Something likely did this to her.
The game room is clean and bright. People happily playing table top and video games. Everyone who isn't holding a controller waves when you enter.
Game Master S |
"Angel! Don't say that." Rishae seems saddened. "Since coming here, my life has been so good. I even look forward to exam time now."
Kazador Agudo Garrez |
"Angel! Don't say that." Rishae seems saddened. "Since coming here, my life has been so good. I even look forward to exam time now."
What type of exam? When is exam time?
Kaz also makes a mental note to speak to Chip about hand grenades his ancestors used. They should be fairly simple to make…
Game Master S |
"Once per day." She suddenly clams up on the subject. "Anyway, you want to see the commisary?"
Game Master S |
2 people marked this as a favorite. |
The commisary is honestly somewhat boring. Today they're serving "Dunklezahn's curried cucumbers" and "fried groznip wings."
Again, the people seem happy as can be.
Aldo Cygnaurius |
Pretending to be interested while trying to figure this place out, Aldo comments, "Ms. Tulvauran, this is a lovely commisary. How is the food they serve here? Are Dunklezahn's curried cucumbers any good?"
When out of earshot of any other prisoners, residents or authority, Aldo also asks two questions of their host.
"Are you familiar with the recent addition of a man named Lindol?"
"Are you familiar with an Veskarium official named Renevaya?"
Game Master S |
"Lindol?! Oh he's great. I met him yesterday. And of COURSE I know Renevaya. She's the one in charge here silly."
Game Master S |
"I'm not sure. I feel like we should have found him by now. Sometimes exams take a while? Not sure where else he could be."
Game Master S |
Kaz saw that this place is pretty remote....
"Well, the EXAM ROOM silly! Aldo, you're so funny."
Game Master S |
"You can go, but I can't. It's not my appointment. Anyway, it sounds like you're up to something, so I'm going to get my lunch. Don't wreck your chances of coming here! Tootles!!!"
Aldo Cygnaurius |
"Well, if we get caught being very very silly, then we will be sure to recommend this place. Thank you for all of your help, and thank you for your tour."
Aldo proceeds to the exam room with the others, keeping an eye out for anything and everything suspicious.
Game Master S |
The door is thick, and the sound is muffled. But... you're pretty sure there are two voices on the other side.

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
"Can you hear that?". Aldo whispers to the others. "There are two voices beyond that door. Let's be careful."
Aldo nods to Kaz to open the door.
Game Master S |
Kaz opens the door, and you find surprising visitors: Nemelith and Jinx have also clearly infiltrated the facility. Nemelith does the talking for the pair, brusquely assuring you that they came here “for an old fashioned jailbreak, darling. I think you're hear for the same, so let's team up." Nemelith adds, “I know you care about more than credits, so let’s do this right.”
Time for a Perception roll.
Aldo Cygnaurius |
”Well met. Fancy meeting you here. I suppose it was silly of me to think we would be doing this on our own.”
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Game Master S |
Neither of those rolls produce anything
"Well, they've got two of our own. They tried to get us all, but only got Dizzy and The Captain. So I suggest we join forces on this one. We know there's something fishy going on, and this is the last room to check."
Aldo Cygnaurius |
"They got Dizzy and the Captain?!! What the hell is going on here? Everything about this place is honey and sweetness, but I know there is a stinger nearby. How come it looks like we could just walk out of here? I don't trust this place at all, but I think we could put aside our differences and work together on this one. Have you been able to figure anything out about this place?"
Game Master S |
"Nope. Unless there are secrets in this room. This is the room that weirds everyone out."
While Kaz and Aldo didn't spy anything, the examination room contains two exam tables and a series of storage cabinets for medical supplies. Angel and Chip can still roll.
Game Master S |
Angel looks around and immediately spies a small pressure plate in the south wall; when pressed, it opens a hidden door leading to a staircase.... it's immediately obvious that the copescetic hospital-prison has a different ascetic below. The stairs are dark and concrete.
Nemelith and Jinx look at each other, and then you. They start taking out hidden weapons and putting them back together.
The stairs descend straight for a few stories before ending in a locked door.
Game Master S |
Yeah it's stored in cargo. Let me know when you open the door and I'll get us going.
Chip the Android |
Chip detaches his drone and uses its manipulator arms to help with the lock, along with Angel's expertise
engineering: 1d20 + 17 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 17 + 2 = 33
Game Master S |
Chip and Angel have no problem unlocking the door. Unfortunately, Chip failed to look for security measures. The door delivers a shock to both of them that really freaking hurts: Elec: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 3, 6) = 15 You can make a REF DC 15 for half DMG. I'll update the map and beyond after the saves.
Aldo Cygnaurius |
"Did you check the door for . . . . . traps? Too late. Are you both okay to continue? Let's get to the bottom of this little vacation prison."
Angel. |

"Geez we should really come to some kind of agreement on who is doing what while we are sneaking around. Like some kind of.... exploration mode or something."
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Aldo Cygnaurius |
"Exploration mode? We're not exactly explorers. We are trying to earn some credits. Maybe that makes us mercenaries. When do we get to enter mercenary mode?"

Agreed; it appears that some sort of protocol for how we proceed through situations that require increased caution is indicated. I shall endeavor to apply such caution moving forward.

Behind you the two members of the Wintermorn snicker a bit. Eventually they realize that right now you're teammates, not rivals. "Hey um... That looks like it sucked. You need a minute?"
Aldo Cygnaurius |
"Let's make sure that we have all learned from this experience.". Turning to the Wintermourners, Aldo adds, "And let's keep the snickering from the peanut gallery down to a minimum. Thank you."

Kaz pokes around and finds the destroyed remains of Dizzy’s drone, Digit, scattered about the chamber. Any sense of adventure leaves Nemelith and Jinx in a heartbeat, "we gotta them."
