Snapping out of the relaxed state that Say'ri was quickly sending her into, Uthe hisses out magical words and a bolt of energy slams into the creature.

Jamie's morning star swings and carves out a section of the creature's hip, the sand reforming around the gap created. Uthe's missile follows up quickly, blowing a chunk off its shoulder just as Ammon's swing takes a chunk from its thighs, which again reform, but look less sturdy than before.

Jazadi recalls an article she once read about a Sandman that could only be destroyed with bludgeoning weapons and couldn't be put to sleep and flanking didn't seem to bother it.

A pulse emanates from the creature and suddenly the air feels heavy and your eyelids droop as you begin to feel sleepy.

The sandman comes crashing forwards, trying to hit Ammon.

Jazadi ditches her whip and pulls out her light mace as the weird magic pulse runs through the room. "I don't think you have any room to criticize me as being boring. Your very existence is a lesson in tedium--how else could Sandmen be so proficient in putting people to sleep?"

She punctuates her taunt with a swing of her mace.

Dhakira feels sleeping only a second before her strong will keeps her awake. Remembering that Justin did well against a creature that was hard to injure, she starts casting a Summon spell.

Say'ri feels one eye droop and her hands fall, which brings the hot metal of her pistol onto her thigh. That banishes any thought of sleep and she thrusts her shield at the creature, trying to get its attention.

With Say'ri softening her up with a splendid ear-scratching, Uthe is easy prey for the sleep-inducing elemental and she crumples to the floor.

Ammon feels an effect of drowziness, sees uthe and Jamie (criminally cutely) fall asleep, and knows its bad news! He slaps himself with the pommel of his sword and relies on the pain and rush of battle keep him up.

"What do we do? Some of us fight and some wake up the others!?' he cries, dropping his falcata in favor of his warhammer. Then, he struck, hoping Jazadi's advice was worth its dew.

With Jazadi and Ammon double-teaming the sandman, the creature's form is smashed to smithereens, sand flying everywhere, with a simple mound of sand remaining where it was previously standing.

Combat Over

Buried in the sand of the courtyard are a few treasures of varying ages, some much more modern than others, including a suit of +1 scale mail, a +1 light crossbow, five cold iron crossbow bolts, 10 regular crossbow bolts, a gold holy symbol of Sarenrae (worth 25 gp), 3 pp, and 37 gp.

Seeing the creature fall much easier than expected, Ammon looks around cautiously, expecting it to reform any moment. After half a minute or so goes by with nothing happening, he relaxes. "That was... something. Think that 'sandman' really was that old? I'd expected more from it, if so."

He then walks over to the snoring Jamie and attempts to gently shake her awake. If it fails, he instead sprinkels some water over her face. "Rise and shine, sleeping beauty! We're not done here yet."

Expecting Say'ri to take care of Uthe, he leaves the sleeping catfolk alone.

Jamie yawns as she opens her eyes. ”Oh? What happened? Did we win?” She stands and brushes sand off of her armor. ”Ah, of course we did. Good job, Falcons!”

She tests the action on the magical crossbow. ”Very nice! A good find!”

Once all the treasure has been unearthed, she gestures back to the manor. ”Onwards and upwards!”

Justin appears right when the Sandman goes down. Dhakira makes him watch over the rest of the Sandman to make sure he doesn't go back up. He poof back the his home plane after 12 seconds.

She goes around her companions to check if everyone is OK, but it seems there was more sleep than hurt. Unless Say'ri does it, she wakes up Uthe gently.

She ogles the magic scale mail ''I know I don't go to the front often, but if nobody's using it, I could.''

She then readies herself to follow the group.

Making your way quietly back into the main part of the manor, you head up the sand-covered staircase that opens out onto a corridor and balcony.

This balcony wraps around a twenty-foot-square opening in the floor, overlooking the inner courtyard below and connecting the rooms of the second floor. Above, a square skylight in the ceiling provides natural light to the ground floor and ventilation for the entire building. To the southwest, two small staircases ascend from a landing on the grand staircase between floors.

Traces of a wooden railing around the balcony, long rotted away, can be found with only casual examination. Six different sets of doors lead off of this balcony.

Say'ri beats Dhakira over to Uthe and proceeds to wake the cat with a dint of ear scratching and then some light fingers dancing across her flanks.

"Now I know that cats like their naps." She says with a teasing grin as Uthe stirs, "But this is just ridiculous!"

"What is the venerated opinion on napping with company?" Say'ri asks, "You tried one of my activities with me, I feel as though I should try one of yours!"

Still, this isn't quite the time for that, so Say'ri stays close behind Jamie to make sure the halfling doesn't get into too much trouble as they go upstairs.

"That seems appropriate," Uthe replies with a nod and a jingling of bells.

Opening the door, Ammon scans, what appears to be a previously grand bedroom.

This spacious room has entrances in the southern and eastern walls. The aged remains of dressers, a large bed, and a divan lie in ruins. The husk of large hornet’s nest, gray, papery, and devoid of life, occupies one corner of the ceiling. The spaces in the northeast and northwest corners appear to be closets. Their wooden doors have all but fallen off their hinges, and heaps of disintegrated fabric mingle on the floor. Between the closets stands a single lacquered dresser covered in dust.

You notice the false dresser. The dresser has no actual drawers, only handles on the front face, which is carved to look like drawers. The entire fixture is more akin to a box with an open back.

Uthe's gaze, while initially drawn to the the hornet's nest, finds its rest on the chest of drawers.

"Those are not drawers," she says after a moment. "They are fashioned to look as such, but it is a single container." Taking a moment to look it over for magical auras, she then waits for someone else to actually examine the piece of furniture.

« Now that everyone is awake, let’s continue. Dhakira follows Jamie and the others up the steps. She agrees with Jamie’s plan of exploring the doors clockwise.

She sees what Uthe means about the chest of drawers. « Careful Jamie, it could be trapped. » She takes a step back, but keeps a close eye on Jamie, in case something happens to her.

Jamie closely examines the dresser, and notices a seam against the wall. Pulling it forwards with some help of the others, she reveals a tarnished bronze chest.

Jamie, ever cautious notices that there is a likely trap on the chest that releases a poison dart or bolt at the one so unlucky to open it unawares.

The chest contains 20 small gold ingots, each bearing a seal. Each ingot is worth 25 gp.

The seal on the ingots is that of the Keleshite sultan who governed Osirion at the time of the Plague of Madness, 2,215 years ago.

There is a chuckle coming from the doorway, but nobody seems to be standing there.

"Someone was there!" she says, her weapon indicating the doorway.

Her eyes widen when she sees the many gold ingots inside the chest. "Look at this..." She picks up one of the ingots and points to the seal on it. "...that seal is about 2,215 years old--it's the seal of the Keleshite sultan of Osirion during the Plague of Madness."

Say'ri doesn't need to hear anything, her trust in both Uthe and Jazz is quite strong enough to have her whip round and level her pistol at the doorway. Unfortunately there is nothing to see...

Nothing else appears in the meantime, no sounds recur.

Searching the rest of the room, you find a headband tucked away in the abandoned hornet's nest which Uthe sees a faint emanation of abjuration and enchantment auras.

Continuing clockwise to the Northwestern corner of the house, the next door swings open with ease, nearly falling off its hinges from age.

Dust blankets this room. The walls, once brightly painted to depict life in ancient Wati, are now faded. A smaller room or alcove takes up the northeast section of the room; it was once closed off by a wooden door that since has rotted away, leaving only its hinges in the doorframe. A strong, cloying odor of decay pervades the room.

Just as a few of you take a few steps into the room to investigate further, a blackened bat-winged fiend flys out at you, its wings flapping wildly; tentacles dangle from the creature's chin and scalp and its fanged mouth hangs agape.

Say'ri's bullet causes it to let out an ear-piercing scream. Just as Uthe's magic missile pummels the creature, another appears from down the corridor, clearly disturbed by the ungodly noise.

The original head let's out another, even more piercing shriek.

Everyone who can both hear and see the creature must make a DC 12 Fort save or be paralyzed by fear for 2d4 rounds or until the monster attacks you or leaves your sight.

The other rushes forwards and extends its mouth to take a bite out of Say'ri.

If I'm allowed to correct this I'll do it in the stat sheet, but also fine to continue as is.

Looking back at the combat I think the six damage is from the shocking grasp when the two cultists ganged up on you Adol. It would have been a touch attack so didn't have to get very high to hit.

I'll have to check to see if she'll have the time for Adol's armor because she's already on the hook to enchant Say'ri's pistols. Considering that she's been offered whatever she wants in exchange, I'm sure Adol will understand why the pistols take priority. XD
