”Pronouns. Don’t talk to me about pronouns,” Jamie mutters, shaking her head. Despite Dhakira’s healing, she still sports a bruise on her eye from the adherer’s mean left hook.

The halfling lets the others continue to chat as she searches the room, being careful not to disturb the cats’ bodies strewn about the chamber.

"I don't think my shield will ever be the same again, but I'm fine." Say'ri says. When Ammon proves to be remarkably knowledgeable about yet another area of esoterica Say'ri raises an eyebrow.

"You seem to know any awful lot about practically everything Ammon. What did you say you did before this? Are you in fact the reincarnated spirit of a librarian? Possibly red-headed and female?"

Even she isn't quite sure why she adds the last question but it just feels so... right.

Jazadi carefully searches what appears to be an unfinished crypt, but finds nothing important or valuable.

Shoving through the next set of stone doors takes some work, but with a couple of helpers, it slowly gives way.

A stone sarcophagus rests atop a stone platform occupying the southern end of this room. The lid of the sarcophagus bears the likeness of a man and is inlaid with gemstones and trimmed in gold. Two lacquered benches run parallel to the east and west walls just north of the platform. Hieroglyphs line the walls of the chamber, and stone torch holders are set in all four corners.

Ancient Osiriani:

The hieroglyphs on the walls tell the story of Pentheru the Younger in Ancient Osiriani, starting with the elevation of his father Pentheru the Elder to nobility, his subsequent death, and Pentheru the Younger’s inheritance of his father’s title and lands. The story boasts of their prosperity and success as land managers, the justness with which the family lived their lives, and the care with which they treated their slaves and servants. The text calls upon the gods to smile upon Pentheru the Younger and bless him with a good and just life in the Great Beyond.

Alongside Pentheru’s mummified body inside the sarcophagus is a small cat mummy, a mummified guardian. As soon as the casket is opened, a cold chill sweeps over the room.

Everyone within 20 feet of the open sarcophagus is overcome by a feeling of dread and must succeed at a DC 13 Will save or be frightened for 3 rounds. On a successful save, a creature is instead shaken for 1 round. This ability functions only once. Once triggered, the mummified guardian retains only its sanctify corpse ability

It was probably placed here to ward off intruders and protect Pentheru’s corpse. Besides the mummified guardian, the sarcophagus also contains Pentheru’s gold funerary mask, worth 150 gp, and a gold-and-turquoise scarab pendent worth 50 gp. In addition, several small semiprecious stones worth a total of 40 gp can be pried off of the sarcophagus. If the gold trim is salvaged from the sarcophagus, it is worth an additional 10 gp.

That's it folks, wanna head back out of this crypt to carry on searching?

"Let's head into the manor proper, Falcons."

Ammon blinks at Uthe's explanation. "You mean every time someone says 'I' or something that sounds like it, you think of female genitalia?"

He looks between Say'ri and Uthe, then blushes. "Ah, I mean..., not 'I', but thank you for the explanation. 'Ammon' will try to keep that in mind."

When Say'ri confronts him about previous knowledge, he looks away a bit, embarassed. "I wouldn't say I know a lot about 'everything', but I'll take that as a compliment. The things I've said so far are all pretty basic knowledge about ancient Osirion, and stuff regarding the old gods were only their most known stories. I thought you of all people would know this?"

He then sighs and considers something before continuing. "...To be fair, that's not all of it, though. Reading about the better times of my country was a hobby of sorts. It got me through the more boring parts of travelling at sea. And when I died and woke up again with this necklace, I figured Osiris had selected me to rekindle faith. So... that's when I used up what meager savings I had to read into whatever relevant thing I could. If these stories bother you, I could tone them down, of course."

You get the feeling he is mostly truthful but that there's something he's not telling you. Also, he pretty much immediately forgot not to use 'I' - there were lots of those in that speech. Wait, was that a grin?

His eyes twitch a bit, but otherwise Ammon stands his ground. He looks at the Dhakira, then back at the casket, then Dhakira again. "Is that cat a magical device, a simple mummy, or both? Can we even take that with us, or does that count as disregarding the sanctity of the dead?" he wonders aloud.

Walking back up the stairs on the way out of the corridor one behind the other, Ammon steps on the top step and hears a short click as the step depressed under his weight. Suddenly, spikes stab out the walls from all sides up and down the stairs, attacking all trying to leave the tomb.

Attack all on stairs: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (15) + 15 = 30

For those of you experienced with traps or ancient osirion tombs, this would seem to be a bit of a joke on the engineer's behalf. They would often trap the exit so that thieves couldn't escape with all the goods. You must have triggered it earlier.

Entering into the main mansion, through the doors and stepping over the scattered bones, you come across a well-preseved foyer. Brightly colored columns stand in the four corners of this foyer. Hieroglyphs cover the walls and tiled floors, obscured in places by piles of dust and sand. Open archways lead to the north, east, and west, while a set of stone double doors exit to the south.

As soon as Jamie and Jazadi take a few further tentative steps into the house to explore further, the house's front doors slam closed behind you all. A woman’s voice (the same voice you heard outside earlier) cries out in Ancient Osiriani.

Ancient Osiriani:
“They’re inside! Protect the family!” and another voice shouts, “It’s too late! Save yourselves!”
Screams and the clash of arms fill the air.
Everyone make a Will DC 11 check or be effected by lesser confusion.

A few seconds pass as Ammon throws back his entire first mug of strong alcohol, overthinking his small companion's words in silence. He places it down and takes the second drink with the same arm - the one he'd been favoring ever since the venom incident.

He looks back at Jamie and his reluctance to accept her message slowly melts away under her enthousiastic cheer. "Hah! I'll take your word for it, miss spirit channeler. This is your area of expertise, right?"

An attempt to ruffle Jamie's hair with his poor arm fails due to a spasm, and he instead knocks over half her drink. The next morning, Jamie gathers the party together at the stage the priests of Pharasma set up outside the Grand Mausoleum. "I've been thinking about our abbreviated foray yesterday. We work well as a team, but sometimes our tactics are disjointed and we falter without a true lynchpin to guide us. I think I can channel my potential here to be an inspiration to you all.

Dhakira spends the next mostly taking care of Ammon. in the middles of the day she takes a break to go shopping, buying basic stuff for the group and looking for scrolls in case of emergency.

Then she goes back to her patient and by the evening, she's satisfied he's going to be OK. ''I declare you perfectly healthy, for now'' she adds with a mischievous smile, then more seriously ''Thank you for being there and risking your life and mind to protect us during our exploration.''

She picks up her medicine, bandages and other healing implements and leaves his room.

"Absolutely." Say'ri says with a grin. "How do you like your water, hot, cool or tepid? We could probably leave it outside if you like it fairly warm. But water is required."

Say'ri's Salon:
Later that afternoon the two women rejoin each other on the roof of the Tooth and Hookah. Under an awning sits a large earthen basin, large enough for a humanoid to sit in and still have a certain amount of movement.

"Farhan told me about this." Say'ri said. "It was going to be the new crocodile bath, then he found he's got a dwarf crocodile so Toothy still lives in the well. Makes for a good bath though!" She's filled the bath with water, which required numerous trips up and down the stairs and a bit of pleading with Dhakira that made the job much easier.

"So," She says, "You need to get in the bath and get yourself wet, shampoo doesn't work if you can't get a good lather up. I can help you apply it or let you do it if that's too personal. Perhaps I could do one of your arms so you get the idea, then you can decide?"

She has a covered pot in the shade, from which Uthe can smell the enticing scents of cinnamon and vanilla.

Uthe looks over the pool of water as one would a bed of rusty nails. "Wait, you mean that you expect us to get into the water?" she asks incredulously. "Is this a ... a 'prank'? We are not partial to 'pranks'."

When it's clear that the woman is serious, Uthe's shoulders slump. "If there is no other way to do this then we will accede to the requirement. We are not getting in alone, though. We find water like this to be terrifying."

She sets her staff aside and removes her bandolier and bag, setting them with the staff. She then steps up to the edge, her tail swishing back and forth frenetically. Her eyes turn to Say'ri expectantly. "You first," she says, her voice a slightly higher pitch.

'' I hope the Uthe doesn't feel the same as regular cat about getting wet. I'll leave you two to it.'' She goes back to her patient.

"Thanks Dhakira." Say'ri says with a smile. "I won't tell anyone about this or everyone will be besieging you for baths!"

Say'ri's Salon:
"Well how did you think...? Nevermind." Say'ri says with a sigh. Thankfully she hadn't brought any weaponry up to the roof with her so it's simply a matter of shucking out of her loose trousers and shirt, leaving only the thin cotton undershirt. She reaches for the hem and then looks at Uthe.

"Normally humans get into a bath naked so we can wash our skin." She says, "Would that be a problem for you?"

"Naked?" Uthe replies, her fear of the water currently pushed aside. "This is all some plan to push your monstrous bosoms into our face, isn't it?" She shakes her head. "Fine, let us get this over with."

Without another word, the amurrun steps over the edge of the basin and plops herself unceremoniously into the warm water. Crossing her arms, she looks off over the city to avoid looking at Say'ri's impending nakedness - the very picture of miserableness.

Say'ri Salon:
Say'ri smiles at how Uthe seems to rate seeing her naked as far worse than bathwater. "Don't worry, I'll keep my shirt on." She says, getting in the bath behind the cat. "See, nothing in your face." Although she does have to gently ease Uthe's tail aside with one foot.

"How about you lean back a little bit?" She suggests to the cat sitting bolt upright in the water. "I'm behind you so you won't slip or get your face wet. Come on." She gently and patiently coaxes Uthe into just a little bit more relaxation and then gently splashes tiny amounts of water over the sorceress until she's at least somewhat damp most of the way up her body.

"Now, shall we start with an arm?" Say'ri asks, reaching out of the tub to pick up her jar. "Now look, I take a small amount in my hand and I rub it into your fur." She does so slowly, making sure it works its way into the thick fur. "We work it nice and deep so we get out any lingering dirt and then we wash it, and all the dirt out again."

She gently puts the unwilling ammuran's arm back in the water and scrubs. "There, much cleaner. And take a sniff." She waits until Uthe does what she's told. "So? What do you think? I've got plenty so we can shampoo as much or as little as you'd like..."

Uthe reluctantly leans back against Say'ri. Her ears lower and she flinches every time the woman splashes a little more water on her. "Um. We are not opposed to the rubbing. It is very much like the pleasure of grooming. It is too wet, but ... um... that does feel ... nice. And it smells very pleasant."

Uthe turns and looks at her companion when she suggests doing the rest of her body. "You would be willing ...? Are you asking to groom me? If you are, is the expectation for us to groom you as well? " The amurrun's ears are up and alert and Say'ri can feel her tail swishing back and forth in the water.

"Do you wish to mingle our scents?"

Say'ri Salon:
"Does 'mingle our scents' mean something different to you?" Say'ri asks teasingly. "Remember humans don't smell as well as you do. Unless I go a long time without bathing I don't really notice my own scent, at least not without the cinnamon. I was just offering to be nice. Actually being in the bath together would normally be considered much more intimate than me offering to finish washing your fur."

Say'ri lifts up the jar and shrugs. "You don't have to reciprocate. I'm just doing this for a friend who was too scared to get in the bath on her own. So? Where do you want to start? We humans have to do our heads but we have more hair there. Shall we work up the arms, do your back and legs and then you can decide if you want to do anything else? Now, give me your paw." Say'ri gives Uthe a generous dollop and proceeds to instruct her in the application.

She gives some tasks to Jamie to help her with Ammon, but it's not very intensive work, so she fills the more quiet moments with some questions for the (recently become) halfling. '' If I may Jamie, how was it when you died? Did you go to the boneyard? Did you meet my mistress before coming back? Because if I did, I don't remember...''

Later, when she's satisfied that ammon is going to be OK and there's nothing more she can do for him than letting him rest, she leaves him in Jamie's company.
Down in the common room, she sees Jazadi alone. She sits with her '' May I join you?'' After drinking a bit of her ale in silence, she points to the book in the half-elf's hands '' This book has probably a lot of adventures to tell about...Would you care to tell me about some of them? Or talk about other preocupation?''

Say'ri's Salon:
"If our scents are mingled then another amurrun would be able to tell that we're family, friends, or mates. They would know that there was a connection between us ... somehow."

"We apologize," she says, her eyes looking down. "We did not realize that we were asking you to do something that you consider intimate. We're not aware of the rituals that humans associate with bathing in water."

She looks back up and her pupils are narrow with her ears turned forward. "Although, perhaps it is not that different. Mutual grooming isn't quite as intimate as mounting, but it is still only done with those that we're closest to." She leans in close to whisper in Say'ri's ear, "Or those we'd like to get closer to."

With a slight shift, Say'ri feels Uthe press her cheek against Say'ri's and rub slightly. She leans back away, sitting back down into the water and holds out her other arm with a slight grin.

Jamie shakes her head. ”No. I didn’t go to the Boneyard. I remember the intense pain and anguish of my death, but more than that, I remember the indignation. A descendant of the great General Arnisant should not have succumbed to such an ignominious fate! I felt like my spirit was being drawn away from this world, but I fought against it, and I suppose my will to live again was strong enough to keep me anchored here.”

"Oh, this is just the journal I'm keeping of our ventures, so far." Jazadi pats her journal. "I'm hoping that once we've explored enough, I can publish my findings back home."

"Most folks back in Alkenstar don't know much about ancient civilizations--they're more knowledgeable about weapons technology and the politics of our northern and southern neighbours. More 'immediate' concerns for them, I suppose."

M Human, Garundi Conditions: Permanently dead/retired.

Ammon's initital sleep is restless. To the outside world, he tosses and turns and cold sweat glistens his forehead. Dhakira notes him having a fever and dampens his face with a water cloth from time to time.

Ammon's dream:

He himself sees passing images that go into eachother. Of an old Osirion empire, strong and proud, reaching into the far distances of a then more uncivilized world. Great armies of Khopesh-wielding soldiers and Chariot-riding cavalry went in this direction or that as smaller regiments were tasked with keeping the piece. Under the hot sun, slaves and laborers toil to build the Pyramids as both momuments to Osirion greatness and tombs for its rulers, while craftsman made vases and other goods to be traded.

Each city housed massive temples, where sacrifices were made daily to maintain the divine order. On festival days, they would all enact an iconic scene to their diety on the innermost sanctuary of mysteries. Familiar myths such as where men dressed with large masks fought as Horus and Set, while in Set's own temple he instead fought Osiris and literally hacked the other man to pieces. Even in his vision, Ammon winced and hoped that person would be led to the temple of Iris next for his resurrection.

There was also a very strange one concerning a nearly naked female wearing the mask of Horus taking a bath with the Goddess Bastet in a fashion that left him - and most of the other visitors to said temple - quite hot and bothered. With what little cognitieve ability he still had left, he resolved there and then to find out what unknown piece of religious lore this was and study it extensively . Surely that would help with his sermons!

Unfortunately, good things couldn't last. Shadow fell over the day and even drunken brawls between worshippers of Horus and Set and the likes in the cities drew to a close. When the sun came up, the cities remained dark. And to the east, a vast invading army began swallowing everything whole while the Pharaohs blundered in ineptitude...

He eventually wakes with a start and frantically looks around the room, until he finds Jamie at a lower angle. "Jamie...? Well, this is a nice surprise! Where's everyone? How long was I out? Is Jazadi all right?"

"And you seem to be dealing pretty well with having my 'pendulous' breasts in your back so I'd be happy to get closer to you... if you want..." She leaves the opportunity hanging and starts applying more shampoo to Uthe's arm.

"So what kind of grooming do I get? You going to lick my hair clean or something? Shampoo smells nice but I don't think it tastes good."

As the bathing process goes on Say'ri finds herself in an odd position - she doesn't know what constitutes intimacy or not. Some of the places she washes would raise eyebrows at least if she was washing another human but Uthe seems utterly unmoved by - or at least no more moved than washing her fore-arms. But then the catwoman leans in and rubs against her, too often to be coincidence. She's flirting. Is she?

By the time Uthe is shampoo'd from neck to tail the jar is practically empty. "I had no idea we'd use so much..."Say'ri says, massaging the last little bit into Uthe's shoulder. "I'll have to make a bigger pot next time around. If you'd like a next time that is..."
