You also got really unlucky there. I mean that gargoyle hit EVERY DANG TIME. It was not that good and did not deserve to do so well. Still, I appreciate some suspense and drama and the dice certainly provided that.
It does seem odd that reach would be provided, but pretty fun, and totally legal. My what long teeth you have grandpa.
Tarak Stromblessed
Yeah, not worried about going down. Full attacks can do that some times when the dice roll hot.
Recall losing a fellow PC to three confirmed crits in a row once, we laughed, he cried a little.

I gave Gnasher 1 point of healing from rage and assume he is still in rage form in order to heal.
I thought it was three rounds of combat that Gnasher had raged after the gargoyles attacked. That would be all three HP healed. If I miss counted rounds let me know and I will adjust HP and Rage rounds.
Also confused about the location on the map. We had approached 'D' After we left the troglodyte area. 'D' was where there were tall towers with spider webs. Then we went to 'A' and talked to the slaves. Then we headed towards 'B' and got attacked by the gargoyles. So I'm assuming we were very near 'B' when we got attacked. You said
You head towards the north gate. A lopsided minaret that looks like some kind of tower built sloppily by some child, has weatherworn stairs around its perimeter, ascending a hundred feet or so.
I'm having trouble identifying the stairs or anything else of the 'minaret' from the map. Are there any entrances or remarkable features? it looks like an entrance with a long hallway, but I wanted to ask to see if there was terrain we could use to our advantage.

So we've got this new foster dog that's a pretty nice little dog. His only real issue (other than being almost completely unused to humans when we got him, but he's making a lot of progress) is that he needs to be up at between 4 and 5 AM for the day.
Good news is it gives me some nice, kid free, time on the computer to post.

@Gnasher
B is the north gate and there are stairs around it. That is where you met the gargoyles. The description plus picture confuses me too. This AP is full of stuff like that, Worse is when they mention something in some other part of the book but do not tell you where it is. Or in section E they mention something of relevance to section A but not in section A. so after you finish the encounter in A and get to E you realize that you missed it. Ugh! You not only need to read the whole AP in advance, but you need to remember details and I am not good at that. Double ugh!
How do you get three rounds? The gargoyle battle ended and then Tarak was healed the next round. What else happened?
'Gnasher' Red Claw
The battle itself was three rounds, gnasher was raging the whole time so he would have healed three HP. If the battle didn't last three rounds, let me know and I will adjust HP and Rage.
As for the map, is there a door, does the 20 ft Hallway-like thing exist? Does the mouth of it narrow to 10 ft? Depending on how many rages gnasher has left, and defensible positions will determine his course of action.
Urah Pyr
Hmmm I think you might have counted the rounds as
Surprise Round
Round 1
Round 2?
I cast a spell.
Then ran away and casted a snowball.
then I ran forward to cast CLW.
that's the 3 rounds?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----
Also yes, this AP doesn't do very with well the maps and descriptions. Takes you some some time to align them together.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------
As for spell casting, I'm hoping to last long enough to have the spells, everything else I'll supplement with staffs, wands and scrolls. As far as AP goes, I tend not to last very long as I encounter some form of floor tanking.
'Gnasher' Red Claw
Combat started here Gnasher has three attacks afterwards all with aoo's and full attacks. He was injured after his action in the first round. If he healed after the first round, then this round when he attacks he'll heal the last HP.
The reason I'm clarifying isn't for the HP it's for the rounds of rage, if my math is right he has four left and an extra one for 'Gnoll Killer'. That gives five rounds, I'm thinking he should charge attacking the hyenadons first, since they are the most dangerous.

Gotcha. But he was not hit until the second round of combat, so I think we split the difference and he heals 2.

You did not get much of an opportunity to examine much. When you got close to the tower, approaching from the west, the gargoyles attacked. You have not had the opportunity to explore the walled entrance passageway. From the looks of it, the passage is 15' wide. There is no door, though there once was.
'Gnasher' Red Claw
Hey Miteke Gnasher's attack was on the red Hyaenodon, if the red Hyaenodon moves forward he will take the aoo on it as well.
'Gnasher' Red Claw
did gnashers AoO hit the gnoll as he 'dismounted'? I don't know if that move action would prompt an AoO or not.
Edit: Hmmm Mount/dismount a steed is a big No.
not sure I can convince you that 'Jump' or 'Soft fall' isn't the same as 'dismounting' and it's a 'move' :)
Hmmm that said, wouldn't the 'dismount' be a move action, and drawing the 'skull' be a move action? Would he have time to throw the thing? Just spit-balling here.
Hopefully that doesn't sound too much like whining, though I do find it a little incredulous that the second rider didn't have his mount move forward and attack. I just hate wasting the potential AoO :)
Yeah, now that I read that it really does sound like whining, doesn't it...
miteke
Typically when a person is moved by another character there is no AoO, such as with a bull rush or reposition (unless you have a special feat). So no AoO.
Their tactics is written up as using that grenade attack first. Since they did not have to move in and since you have a nasty reach, which you already displayed, bombs away.
'Gnasher' Red Claw
that's cool, I was just hoping the aoo would help end it quickly. Thanks for answering my ranting,
'Gnasher' Red Claw
No I'm cool with you making the call. I just do better if I can ask questions, the brain starts going 90 miles and hour and understanding helps reduce stress. I do the same in RL, an old supervisor of mine called me a 'devil's advocate.'
I just get nervous that when it's typed/in print that it comes off wrong. In person when speaking it's easier to communicate using rate, tone and volume. In type it's harder.
miteke
I'll just assume you mean well unless it is blatantly aggressive. No worries.
You are so right on that. I'll reread something I wrote and realize it could be taken two ways and will often put a smiley at the end to emphasize that it should be interpreted the friendly way. It sucks when what you wrote is interpreted wrong.
'Gnasher' Red Claw
a lot of times when I make characters I'll give them a personality on the Myers Briggs scale I didn't with Gnasher because I don't want him to think like a human.
My own personality is the ENTP-A I've learned that it doesn't come across in print well all the time...
Tarak Stromblessed
Defender.
Holds up with every other personality test I’ve taken.
Urah Pyr
Oh I've done and conducted this before.....
Advocate (INFJ-A)
Not much of an advocate I find at times.

Heavy storms last night, we've got no power or internet so posting on my phone. Hopefully it will be up and running soon bot me as needed.
'Gnasher' Red Claw
It looks like a tornado crossed the northern part of our county, knocked out power for 15,000 or so. Probably won't get power back till tomorrow. My wife had to check on her mom so I brought the laptop along,
Urah Pyr
I hope everyone is safe. Quite a few of my games have players reporting tornaldos.
Tarak Stromblessed
We are supposed to have a chain of strong storms up here today with some tornadoes possible, so we’ll see how that all shakes out.
I’m glad they buried our power lines two years ago, every strong storm used to leave us without power for a day or two, several times a year. Fun stuff.
'Gnasher' Red Claw
The electric company is telling folks they should have everyone’s power back by Friday. So I am using my wife’s work laptop to post from my mother in laws house again. All of my documents and such are on my desk top at home, so I apologize if the posts are a little simplistic.
'Gnasher' Red Claw
Hmmm, it’s been four days, still no power, went to the mother-in-laws for a couple of hours to do laundry, so will get a post up…
Tarak Stromblessed
Yikes, good luck! We got lucky the other day and the tornadoes touched down north and south of us, but it was a bad time to remember we had loaned our generator to a friend (another tornado) and didn’t have it back yet. Luckily we didn’t need it.
'Gnasher' Red Claw
hmmmm, thinking about it myself, My in-laws house has a generator that runs on natural gas and comes on automatic.
Tarak Stromblessed
Think of it as an unfriendly reminder to get that generator back.
Yep, getting it back this week. It’s an hour or so away so it takes some small amount of work to schedule time.
Tarak Stromblessed
Was that genie guy we fought a shapeshifter too? I can’t recall.
'Gnasher' Red Claw
yeah, if the slave girl is going to follow them, he's going to teach her how to fight...
Maybe we should give her the pepperbox rifle. miteke, what do you think of the idea of running a DMPC musketeer :)
Tarak Stromblessed
After the infernal healing I should only be down one Hp and the non lethal will all go away with rest. I have one charge down on my wand but am out of first level spells, can I charge with a second level spell slot?
miteke

Uh-huh. Training her will take a lot of time and effort. Some folks are not meant to do battle, as alien as that is to Gnasher.

Yes, of course. It just has to have the right school and be at least the level as the spell in the wand.

I'm sorry, what?
:)
The slave girl fumbles through the movements, wielding it more like a kitchen knife than a weapon.
Hey, that's exactly how I handle knives!
Tarak Stromblessed
Yes, of course. It just has to have the right school and be at least the level as the spell in the wand.
OK, and broad school like Conjuration works, not the specific correct? IE I can use a summons to charge since it’s also conjuration?
Tarak Stromblessed
My spont casts are actually evocation with the archetype, but I do plan to prep a few summons most days.
Urah Pyr
Man. Just to check does charging the wands matter if it's from a divine source or arcane source as I'm heading towards Mystic Theurge.
Tarak Stromblessed
Gnasher, Bulls Strength is still useful for you right? The rage and/or items aren’t going to override or equal the enhancement bonus?
Also, I can Greater Magic Fang myself in Dino form, right?
'Gnasher' Red Claw
Yes, bull's strength would work on Gnasher.
Urah Pyr
It should work.
Bull's strength is enhancement.
Rage is morale.
Malgrim Gryh
I will be going on vacation from the 23rd through the 30th. I hope to have internet and be able to post over the week at least some, but I won't know until the day of if the area we are in is covered. Feel free to bot me as needed.
