ROUND 1
Free (rage), free (ring of spell turning), full-round (charge), swift (smite evil)

Koran roars with the force of a storm and launched himself across the thrown room. Fire and lighting trail behind him as his personal storm flies him through the air. As he nears Cthulu he speeds down at the great olds ones tentacled head and launches a barrage of fury filled attacks each with the force of an entire army behind it.

Koran is also now sharing Cthulu's space with titan's bane

Male Great Old One Outsider 31 (aquatic, chaotic, evil, native)

Koran's mighty blows stagger the Great Old One with their relentless intensity! Cthulhu roars in pain and outrage!

[b]RAAAAAWWWRRRR!!!!/b]

M Human unchained monk 8/paladin 6

Oopsy! Disregard my post above this one for now.... Forgot Koran and everyone else must actually make 9 more Will saves vs the star spawns' frightful presences, and each of Koran's successful attacks might still be negated by Cthulhu's non-Euclidean defense....

Male Tiefling Wild Rager 11 / Spellbreaker 6 / Chevalier 3 / Champion 9 (current HP: 520/349)

Koran is immune to fear.

Male Great Old One Outsider 31 (aquatic, chaotic, evil, native)

Non-Euclidean defense vs Koran's attacks, all of which except #5 could hit. Rolls of 01-50 indicate a miss....

Vs attack #3: 1d100 ⇒ 54 hits!

Vs attack #4: 1d100 ⇒ 14 misses!

Vs attack #6: 1d100 ⇒ 51 hits!

Koran strikes a total of four times, dealing a staggering 508 damage to Cthulhu!

Male Great Old One Outsider 31 (aquatic, chaotic, evil, native)

Concentration check vs DC 33 to defensively cast mythic wish 1d20 + 42 ⇒ (16) + 42 = 58 succeeds, of course....

Cthulhu raises one slimy claw skyward and utters a mythic wish that all of Koran's attacks this round failed to connect.... The four great bludgeon marks from Mjolnir suddenly vanish, restoring the Great Old One to full vigor!

In telepathic Aklo: You are doomed to fall before my relentless might, foolish mortals!!!

Sieg stomps his boots against the ground, granting him bolstered morale.

Swift action activate Boots of the Battle Herald, Greater Heroism for 30 rounds. Immune to fear now. Also activating Mythic Power Attack. Spending 1 point from my Ki Pool negate his Freedom of Movement.

Then he calls upon the spirit of Beowulf within him and rages, growing large, and follows Koran's course, flying over the Star-Spawn and going straight for their dread father.

He roars in anger and throws all his might into a single punch as he divebombs the tentacle-y threat to all humanity.

Human Dark Tapestry Oracle 15; Mythic Hierophant Tier 6; HP: 114/114

Just realized Marcus hasn't acted yet. Wish I had known more about the CLeric list when we started this because a Readied action to use Soul Bind here would be rad. Don't have the right gemstone for it though.

Marcus uses his Divine Metamastery, then drops a Maximized Empowered Mythic Firestorm over the whole battlefield.

"Burn babies burn! We're havin' calamari tonight!"

Spell resistance: 2d20 ⇒ (5, 8) = 13 +33 to bypass SR is 41 result, barely overcoming Cthulhu's SR I believe.

Using 2 MP to exclude Humanoids from harm. Everyone that's not humanoid in 42 total 10 ft. cubes (so...this whole room, basically) takes 240 damage. Reflex for half damage and to avoid being caught on fire and taking a further 36 fire damage every round until they spend a full-round to extinguish it. Half of this damage is Fire, and half of it is Divine and bypasses all fire resistance or immunity.

Male Great Old One Outsider 31 (aquatic, chaotic, evil, native)

Non-Euclidean defense, 01-50 negates damage....1d100 ⇒ 43

The instant the divine storm of flames roars down, Cthulhu briefly flickers into another dimension, evading the damage!

Bueller.....

Bueller.....

Bueller.....

M Human unchained monk 8/paladin 6

In the great battle that ensued, perhaps the most ferocious in Earth history.... More savage than the clash of titans, or dragons, or dinosaurs.... More bloodthirsty than the carnage of the World Wars, Viet Nam, the War on Terror.... The Fierce Ones earned their title one final time.

Cthulhu and its star spawn raged like nightmare leviathans from the drug-ravaged psyche of an insane alien, summoning demons, devils, daemons, slaadi, aberrations from the furthest realms, and undead monsters from the pits of Hell or other, equally terrible dimensions....

The Fierce Ones were at first horrified when Professor Naomi Levinson made her reappearance at Dread Cthulhu's side as a lich, Kepler long cannibalized for evil power....
But when it became apparent that she had actually turned on Cthulhu--her devious plan the whole time--they rejoiced at the potent necromantic aid of their long-lost companion!

In a houdah strapped to the back of a somehow more malevolent-looking marble elephant than the lovable figurine of wondrous power The Fierce Ones remembered, the Scepter of Faust in her hand, Lich Naomi Levinson winks an undead eye at Derrik.

You didn't truly think I'd let you have all the fun without me, did you?

Arriving with Morgan the Fey at his side, Merlin returns to their side once more in The Fierce Ones' hour of need.... Bravely and brilliantly, the old wizard fights alongside his ward once more, urging Derrik to greater and greater fears of battle-glory!

Kill him, Arthur!!!! Kill the bloody brute!!! roars Merlin to Derrik with his final breaths as the ancient archmage vanishes down Cthulhu's tentacle-fringed maw....

Seeing her sometime enemy, sometime lover disappear into the void of the ravening maw of Cthulhu, the immortal enchantress wails her grief and fury....

MERRRRLIIIINNNNN!!!! NOOOOOOO!!!

Electrified with mad rage, the fey witch hurls epic magics at the Great Old One, rending his form for the first time!

Male Top Hat Intelligent wondrous item

*GASP!!!* M-m-master Merlin! Oh dear....

Turning its monocle to flash disapprovingly at Mahatma:

And you, sir.... What has happened to you!? You are not the dear, sweet Mahatma I parted ways with in the Silver Tower!

Male Marble elephant Figurine of wondrous power

No, Mister Chesterfield. I am not. I have seen things, Mister Chesterfield. Things no mortal eye could bear to see. Things no immortal eye should suffer, even. Don't judge me!

Male Human Two-handed fighter 10/urban barbarian 9/cleric of Sif 1; Mythic Champion tier 10; hp 263

Like a whirling dervish on crack, Mikey Jay rains down blows with The Sword of Sif, laying a field of carnage among the star spawn, demons, devils, and assorted ill-fated minions summoned to the arena, wisecracking dryly as he slashes and hacks....

Female Human (Navajo) Cleric 20; Mythic Hierophant tier 10; hp 176

Daisy worked hard to keep her companions standing.... It was not easy.... Cthulhu and the star spawn brought the martial heroes to the brink of death over and over again, and Daisy nearly exhausted her healing powers undoing the damage....

Don't give up, boys! We got this!

Like a primal hurricane or tornado embodied, Koran and Mjolnir, united in a common purpose of destruction, send the summoned horde of fiends, aberrations, and undead back to Hell, thunderclaps and lightning ripping the air with every furious blow....

M Human unchained monk 8/paladin 6

For a moment, the battlefield is silent, The Fierce Ones seemingly victorious as all the star spawn and summoned minions were slaughtered, and even Dread Cthulhu reduced to a noxious cloud of roiling green gas....

Without speaking a word, Derrik removes his helm and lets it fall with a clang to the throne room's blood-slicked floor.... He strides with solemn purpose into the noxious green cloud that had once been Cthulhu....

Female Human (Navajo) Cleric 20; Mythic Hierophant tier 10; hp 176

Derrik?.... What are you.... Oh.... Oh no....

Daisy's face falls as she alone intuits Derrik's intention....

Coughing and spasming as the green gas envelops his armored form, Derrik falls to his knees and clutches at his throat before collapsing altogether....

A golden light radiates suddenly from his body as it begins to glow in the green gas!

Radsworth's visage grows stern as he watches the transformation, suddenly understanding what Derrik has done....

Ready yourselves for an even deadlier contest, Fierce Ones.... This is our chance to bring a permanent end to our evil foe....

The green gas coalesces around the brightly glowing figure, and a strange transformation occurs: rising from the floor and growing until it towers to Cthulhu's original colossal height, an armored, tentacled hybrid of Derrik and the Great Old One, brandishing colossal and warped versions of Excalibur and Dawnbringer, looms over the throne room!

It's voice is like thunder: The transmogrification is complete! I am more powerful than ever before! Behold the doom of galaxies, Fierce Ones, and despair!!!!

Male Human Two-handed fighter 10/urban barbarian 9/cleric of Sif 1; Mythic Champion tier 10; hp 263

This can't be good.

M Human unchained monk 8/paladin 6

Prologue

In the aftermath of that legendary battle, the ultimate clash between Yin and Yang, Light and Dark, Good and Evil, Life and Death, Resurrection and Destruction, Derrik Stonesmith made the ultimate sacrifice and fulfilled the destiny begun for him long before his soul inhabited the body known by that name.

A fallen angel was redeemed, but at the cost of his name and legend being stricken from the memories of every living being in the multiverse for all time.

The mythic companions who survived him knew that someone had been among them, a friend, a leader, a champion.... But the name and face were frustratingly lost to them....

Nonetheless, they celebrated the Forgotten One, and the sacrifice that saved the world, in the heady days of rebirth following the fall of Cthulhu and the New Renaissance of Humanity.

No race restrictions, as bio-engineering can pretty much explain any racial crunch. RAW Core races, and all races from ARG, are acceptable.

No class restrictions.

25-point buy for Ability Scores, optimizing is encouraged.

Maximum starting wealth.

Max starting hit points, one-half max plus 1 hit points each level after 1st.

Dark Archive

What's the setting?

Are you open to 3PP?

Setting is a post-apocalyptic version of modern Earth. No 3PP please, but UCG, UMG, APG, ARG, etc are ok.

sounds like fun ...
definitely dotting for interest.

Grand Lodge

Thinking seriously about it -- I guess time commitment and campaign Fluff are my concerns.

To the OP, will the Fluff be more traditional D&D, high fantasy swords & sorcery or more Cthulhu/ dark modern-world fantasy?

Also interested, as I always love me a good post-apocalypse.

Dark modern fantasy

What are weapon options and can I make a custom race?

Can you give us any additional information?

How did the world end? How long ago? Anything that might help set the tone?

Ptolmaeus Arvenus wrote:

Start with max starting wealth, any weapon from Core, APG, UCG, UMG, AEG, that u can afford and justify having fluff-wise.

No custom races, but any of the featured or uncommon races from ARG can be played as either a bioengineered super soldier, freak of nature, alien, et cetera.

The dictator of North Korea, advised by insane cultists, performed a ceremony found in the Necronomicon that raised R'lyeh and resurrected Cthulhu on Dec 21st, 2013, at midnight over R'lyeh.

Civilization was destroyed over the course of several days of slaughter and feasting. The major population centers became ground zero of carnage, with survivors resorting to cannibalism in short order.
The game begins on New Year's Day, 2013.

Pcs are survivors living at a top secret research lab in the Florida Everglades called Pandora's Box.

I would respectfully suggest making this a 'Guns Everywhere' setting to reflect modern weapons and military training.

Yarp. Guns are everywhere.

How many players. I am certainly interested

Are we imagining magic is some sort of bio engineering shenanigans as well.

I'd say no more than 8. The first eight interesting PCs posted to this board.

lvl. 1 ?

Spots are reserved for 6 of my friends, but some of them have not confirmed interest yet, so I will start selecting others in 72 hrs.

To submit a PC, make one using the guidelines I declared in the first post, post full stats and include a few lines of interesting fluff/backstory.

I will submit a character soon. I am still not sure of the level.

Billybrainpan wrote:

Magic is magic. Are you familiar with Lovecraft's mythos? Research Cthulhu mythos if not before considering joining please. :)

Level 1.

do gunslingers start with an advanced firearm in everywhere

Billybrainpan wrote:

Yes, a revolver or rifle.

The first adventures will involve exploring Lido Key in search of supplies. Formerly a tourist destination known for its upscale shopping area (St Armand's Circle) and beach resorts, this island off the Gulf coast in Sarasota is now likely to be a place filled with danger. There is a wooded park at the south end, St Armand's Circle at the north end, and resorts and residences in between.

A motorized pontoon will drop the PCs off on the beach at the south end of Lido in the wooded park area.

There seems to be some argument about if you can use rapid reload with advanced firearms, what do you think about it?

Billybrainpan wrote:

Although it seems like a reasonable use for the feat, I'd have to say no. RAW, only crossbows can be used with Rapid Reload.

Rules on Psionics? I'd like to make an Elan (set-up as a human infested by an alien entity who has regained control but not his memories) Psion. if you aren't familiar with psionics and would rather not use them I don't mind, thought I'd ask

Sorry, only classes from Core, APG, UCG, and UMG please. In other words, no 3rd party stuff, only what can be found in the PRD.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Here is my (Billybrainpan) character.

edit: I put a little fluff but no backstory. do want a fairly long one or just a few sentences.

Ah, well Psychic made the most sense for Cthulu to me, but that's fair. I withdraw my partial submission.

Pretty damn sweet, Billybrainpan!

Bred at Pandora's Box in the Everglades, and trained in the art of shooting by the infamous Monkey Dude (a bioengineered vanara gunslinger), young Kinyama Urai, known to most of his associates as Foxy, is selected to provide security on a salvage expedition to Lido Key.....

Hey Michael.

I had a friend named Michael Johnson that ran some Cthulu stuff here in Oklahoma City. You wouldn't be him would ya?

That said, I'd like to toss my hat in. I understand Cthulu setting and thoughts on magic, I just want to make sure that functionally, the game mechanics are unchanged.

Sweet I look forward to it.

According to Paizo's own reference doc, Rapid reload DOES work on firearms. As is seen here. Just depends on whether you are reading the description pulled from Core or Ultimate Combat.

That is the version I read however it says nothing about advanced firearms which already reload as a move action.

That said, I'd like to toss my hat in. I understand Cthulu setting and thoughts on magic, I just want to make sure that functionally, the game mechanics are unchanged.

I'm not that Michael. :). Magic will work RAW. Not quite what Lovecraft had in mind, but arcane and divine magic can be mastered by studying such books as the Necronomicon, and other blasphemous tomes.

According to Paizo's own reference doc, Rapid reload DOES work on firearms. As is seen here. Just depends on whether you are reading the description pulled from Core or Ultimate Combat.

Right you are. In the SOR, I'll rule that you can reload advanced firearms as a free action with Rapid Reload.

Okki was also bred at Pandora's Box, and trained in the way of ninjutsu by Hell-No Kitty (catfolk ninja). He has been selected to join the expedition as well.

Cool I will edit Kinyama accordingly.

@Okki - just so you know we are doing 25 point buy. you only used 20.

In case you hadn't noticed, I've posted a few posts in the gameplay thread involving Foxy and Okki and their respective mentors at Pandora's Box.

Cool I will check it out.

Hey DM, it's Okki.

I missed those posts until you mentioned it!

That said, I should have posted under a general alis. Okki is actually a toon from another game. I would actually like to submit Radsworth, an archeologist and professor turned spellslinger when Cthulu was reborn.

Spoiler:

He escaped his campus in Boston and into hiding in an old library in Dallas. There he discovered an old grimoire written in latin that contained simple cantrips for reading and detecting other magical texts.

From there he discovered that many seemingly ordinary books in libraries across the country contained some version of magical texts, their secrets often locked away through code or illusion.

In one such library in Tulsa Oklahoma, he found a crate containing a thick book (his current spellbook) and and a magnum revolver with strange inscribed ammunition.

I'll let you decide how he came to Pandoras Box.

I saw the gameplay thread come up and didn't realize this was still going on. I hope it isn't too late to get Lakra in.

Not so long ago, Lakra was an ordinary teenager living in Miami, skulking around the fringe of what you might call decent society. He grew up in a rough area, and he knew how to talk trash and handle himself in a scrap, but he was no different than anyone else in his neighborhood. Then there was the fight. It should have been just a regular brawl, but somehow a bat got in his hands, and that poor sucker wound up in the hospital, and Lou wound up doing two years in juvie.

That turned out to be a good education for him. When he got out, a month ago, his P.O. got him a job as a custodian at someplace called Pandora's Box out in the swamps. It was supposed to keep him cut off from the gangs while he rejoined the civilized world. Some kind of luck, he was there when the Koreans did their thing and the world turned into some kind of horror movie.

Even out in the Everglades, it changed him. His skin thickened and warped, and his eyes changed, to where he could see in the dark. He watched with the government freaks while the city ate itself alive, and then they said they could use him. Not to push a mop, but to go back into the world to scavenge supplies. It wasn't really a choice. The government types weren't big on choices. You did it their way, or you took a bullet in the head.

Cool. Hell-No Kitty (catfolk ninja 9) and Sergeant Gore Illa (orc barbarian 9) probably took you under their tutelage and taught you how to wield that big axe you carry around.

Radsworth's former academic colleague from Massachusetts, Professor Solomon Dirge of Arkham University, invited him to Pandora's Box back in 2009 with an urgent and frankly nonsensical e-mail, but it wasn't until Cthulhu's apocalyptic return to Earth that Radsworth took his old schoolmate's offer seriously.

He has just arrived at the facility after a perilous trek down the Gulf Coast from Texas, most likely rowing up in a stolen canoe.

Where are the rest of Rad's stats please? Feats, Skills, CMB, CMD, saves, attacks, damage, spell-like abilities, spells prepared, spellbook, gear, et cetera?

So when are you planning on starting up. No rush just wondering.

Dm - you'll have it in a bit. Still constructing while at work. A little here and there but it's coming together.
