Dr. Hugo Grimm |
I'll take a raincheck then! Grimm responds to Kate and then proceeds to look for useful items anywhere in the vicinity, including peering carefully inside the van's windows.

Kinyama and others looting the dead and dying cannibals find nothing of any real value, mostly small personal belongings--a few lighters, a bottle-opener, a pack of cigarettes (camel lights), and a folded up sheet of notebook paper with a poorly-written poem about eating a young woman while she was still alive scrawled on it.
Michael Johnson 66 |
I'll take a raincheck then! Grimm responds to Kate and then proceeds to look for useful items anywhere in the vicinity, including peering carefully inside the van's windows.
The inside of the van is devoid of anything useful-- it appears to have been thoroughly looted already, save for a moldy blanket in the back and what looks like an opened and emptied-out toolbox.
Michael Johnson 66 |
Team Lido scours the beach, picnic area, and parking lot, searches the van thoroughly, and inside a public bathroom, finding nothing of value. By the time they have finished exploring South Lido Park, it is about 3:30.
A street runs north from the park entrance, with hotels lining the west side and woods on the east.
Continue exploring to the north, or return to the pontoon with what you have (2 rifles, 80 bullets, and a few lighters)?
Dr. Hugo Grimm |
I'm game for finding more stuff as long as Kate is around and Kermy waits for us. We should probably head back before dark though. I doubt that their galas are of a black tie affair.
Michael Johnson 66 |
Also, if we burn the bodies, that is less food for these slimeballs. We haven't any fuel though have we?
Firewood could be made of parts of the tower or picnic tables, and kindling from pine needles. There might be enough gas left in the van's tank to help get a bonfire going.
Michael Johnson 66 |
Chopping and prying wood off the tower or picnic tables would be relatively quick and easy, but certainly noisy and certainly bad for Lakra's axe.
Firewood might also be found in the wooded park northeast of the picnic area and parking lots. A nature trail leads from the northeast corner of the park northward into the woods, and bogs could be seen further in the woods, with boardwalks crossing over these areas.
Michael Johnson 66 |
Grimm looks for something metal and to his own small tool set to try and get the gas tank off of the van. Anyone feel like collecting firewood?
Grimm can remove the tank with a DC 10 Disable Device check, or a DC 25 break check.
He begins to feel the effects of the drug ebbing now.
Dr. Hugo Grimm |
Good thinking, Kermy. Gas is probably getting harder to come by. Let's get a party concensus and decide where to move next. Here's some gas for the boat.
Grimm hands the barely full tank to the frog man.
Where is the local armory? We could use a fifty-caliber on this boat. Now, bullets? I'm sure that is another story..Grimm adds.
Dr. Hugo Grimm |
Shouldn't we at least scout their positions, or burn down the watchtower so they cannot see us coming next time...I hope someone grabbed that damn air horn That watchtower could be advantagous for us as well. We should weigh that option cautiously
Kermy, is there anywhere that we can hit and get?
Prue Silversmith |
Prue remains in her spot for another minute or two, watching to see where the cannibals go, and making sure they don't try to sneak back before finally descending the tower--checking it as she goes--to join the discussion with the others. She listens to the options, before speaking up herself.
"If time is that big a factor then we should probably split up. Kermit can take those of us with keen eyes and do a loop of the island while it's still light, and the rest of us can start to explore the nearby buildings on the street. If Kermit hears the Air-horn," she raises it and gives it a shake "Then he'll know we're in trouble and need help. It's dangerous, but I don't doubt the cannibals will be back so we shouldn't stay here any longer than absolutely necessary." she glances at the bodies sadly, before turning back to the group.
"What's everyone think? Any volunteers?"
Dr. Hugo Grimm |
I'll stay on the island too. Kate, any chance you'll stick around with us? Koran is a pretty tough dude. You'll be safe. Kate was attractive, but Grimm's real motive came from watching her bail us out of a jam.
Michael Johnson 66 |
Radsworth finds the team's location on his map of Lido Key, and a plan is made to circumnavigate the island clockwise, motoring up the west coast to scout the hotels and public beach, pass under the bridge connecting Lido and Longboat Key, and down the east coast to scout the residential side, before landing on the south tip again.
Meanwhile, those staying on land will advance up Ben Franklin Drive, the street that runs the length of the key from the park to St Armand's Circle at the north end.
Kate Peace |

"Yeah, I'll go with you guys, you're more likely to need me to kiss your boo-boos."
Kate grins at Dr Grimm, blushing slightly.
Michael Johnson 66 |
The cannibal's bodies are loaded onto the pontoon and dumped some 50 yards offshore, then the land team is dropped off again on the beach just west of the park.
Dr Grimm, Koran, Mephos, and Kate begin to explore inland, while Cpt Kermit takes Prue, Radsworth, Lakra and Kinyama on a cruise around the coast.
Michael Johnson 66 |
Koran leads Dr Grimm, Mephos, and Kate northward to the park entrance. From there, they get a clear view of the Sarasota Sands Resort on the beach side of the road, and a forest of pines, palms, Cyprus, and mangroves on the right side.
The cannibals sounded like they were running from and back to the Sarasota Sands Resort, a three-story hotel.
Michael Johnson 66 |
As the land team approaches the Sarasota Sands Resort, they cross a parking lot to the main office on the ground floor. The glass panes of the double doors at the lobby entrance have been shattered and the shards of glass are strewn around the parking lot and in the doorway of the lobby.
Landscaping frames the lobby doors, and the parking lot forms an L, extending out toward the beach on the north side of the property.
The hotel is three stories high, and has balconies perpendicular to the beach on the south side, and access doors on the north side. A stairway and elevators stand at the near end of the building, and likely at the far end by the beach as well.
Perception checks please.
