Hunting a creature after finding one of the few NON-cannibal families ravaged by it attacking them and the last person.. a mother dying saying it took her daughter. He is stealthy enough and his spellchoice is.. more survival than anything.
Or I could have come from a group that didnt return from scouting mission and have been hiding out.. Or anything you want. I'm game.. Also Check my Profile for a bit.
Derrik has been surviving with his recent acquaintance, the other new player's character (an aasimar paladin?) in a fortified condominium on Bird Key, protecting a few other survivors who haven't lost all moral compass, but one by one, those you strove to protect fell prey to cannibals or monsters out of a madman's most delirious nightmares.
The last survivors, a mother and her child, fell victim to the Lido Beach Horror, a lobster-like monstrosity with huge pincers and a mouthful of tentacles! You have tracked it to the beach, and are watching it from a safe distance when the rumble of a pontoon comes into hearing.

I too am interested in this, have I just missed the boat?
Edit: I should say, I'd like to play an Aasimar Oracle of Lore and try and fill the roles of Healer / Encylopedia. I like the idea that an Outsider has come to see what happened to this plane.
If you can finish your PC and post him quickly enough, you might be able to get in on this combat with the Lido Beach Horror.....
Then again, maybe you wanna stall a bit, lol!

Yeah If you can.. read the rules, make a character that you think would fit, perhaps even read the Gameplay story to get yourself immersed then your character could make more sense and probably be more organic. The Party s surprisingly different one classes and roles, and works well, o you could be just about anything.

Cool! Just need u to post the rest of his stats in full under the About Yingzen section, and make him 5th level, with 12,000 gp worth of gear (from Core, Ultimate guides, or any other official source I can consult on the pdr. Also, background fluff.... It sounds like you alrdy have some ideas.... What are they?

Michael Johnson 66 |

Not sure if you able to read all of the Gameplay up til current or not, I know its almost 2200 posts already, but the party's base of operations recently was relocated from the Florida Everglades to the Grand Canyon in AZ after its location was discovered and raided by cultist assassins....
The current Pandora's Box (as the Everglades facility was known) is now in a series of caverns and tunnels dug out by Navajo Indian tribes fighting a guerrilla-style resistance against Cthulhu and his monsters and cultists in the region.... Yingzen sounds Chinese to me, but he could be a freak of nature, thought (perhaps correctly) by the Navajo to be an a avatar of Raven, the Native American trickster-god, born among the Navajo to one day lead them in victory against Cthulhu....

Yup, it was how I found out about Play by Post. Until recently I had only played in person games. And I think the setting made here is really unique, and I like how the characters have developed as well.
Anyway, I have made a character for fun, and it could fit into the setting if you guys ever need another player. (Human Summoner under my profile)

You are welcome to join! I will check out your character (I'm assuming you made using the guidelines set out under campaign info--25-pt buy, max starting wealth, max 1st level hp, half max plus 1 hp each level thereafter) and discuss with you how to work her in!

Michael Johnson 66 |

I checked out Prof Levinson, perfect kind of character for this setting, well done!
Now, currently, everyone else is 5th level, so we can catch her up one of two ways:
A. Just advance her to 5th level and give her 12,000 gp worth of gear, and we have her join others ASAP....
B. I run her through some solo stuff as she makes her way from CT to AZ, and we work her up from 1st level--a bit more dangerous, but I can make up a healer and a tank to provide company until she catches up with the others, and it might be more satisfying for you to play out those first five or so levels.
Whichever you prefer, we'll do.

Cool, he'll do quite nicely!
So, based on some of the crunch, it appears he was raised among the Navajo in the Grand Canyon, but brought to them by elves, so we can say that he was hatched from an ancient Tengu egg, magically preserved over the centuries among other various relics in the keeping of an elf wizard named Pan Palathar, who kept his race hidden under illusions as he walked among humankind, and who originated among an elf clan in the Black Forest of Germany. When 19 years ago, Pan Palathar became certain that the prophecy concerning the return of Cthulhu on the Winter Solstice of 2012 would be fulfilled, he used a magic ritual to quicken and hatch the Tengu egg, and Yingzen was born.
Pan Palathar spent the first nine years of Yingzen's life in the Black Forest, having him trained in the ancient arts of Elven sword fighting by the deadly elf sword master Morthoron Talianen. When Yingzen was 9, the elves of the Black Forest were forced to relocate after German lumber companies began to encroach on the ancient Elven homeland, and Pan Palathar decided it was time for Yingzen to begin learning something of the world of men. So, using illusion magics to disguise himself and his young ward as humans, Pan Palathar took Yingzen out of the Black Forest and teleported with him to AZ, where he was friendly with a Navajo tribe living in the Grand Canyon.
The next ten years, Yingzen would learn the ways of the Navajo, and how to get by in the world of men. When the terrible apocalypse finally fell, Pan Palathar instructed Yingzen to follow his destiny, which the elf wizard could no longer guide, as he would return to his kin in the Black Forest and do what he could to aid them against the horrors that would no doubt find them there....
The Navajo believe Yingzen is an avatar of Raven, the trickster-god, and revere him as a hero. No doubt, they will soon introduce him to the heroic newcomers known as The Fierce Ones, who have recently moved their base of operations (called Pandora's Box) to the Navajo's cavern stronghold in the Grand Canyon, foreseeing that their destinies would be linked somehow to bring salvation from the evil Old Ones to Earth....
Sound okay? If you have any other ideas, let me know....

Michael Johnson 66 |

Wow! I'm just a washed up chemist.
Nonsense! You are Dr Hugo Grimm, washed-up chemist and Fierce One, a hero to all of mankind!
If it makes ya feel more cool, we can make him a reincarnation of Nicholas Flammel, famous alchemist of the Middle Ages, said to have discovered the legendary Philosopher's Stone, which made him one of the wealthiest citizens of Medieval Paris....

Michael Johnson 66 |

That would be great! I'll have to do some research as I have only heard his name.
Yeah, he was an interesting person, source of much speculation among the Medieval Parisians, who thought him a wizard (as most alchemists of the time were so considered).
I believe he shows up in one of the Harry Potter books (I've not read any of them, but I seem to recall from one of the movies)....

Fantastic! Thanks! I will work on advancing her to level 5, and then you can find whatever you want to integrate her into the story. No need to make you GM a ton of additional content.

Sweet! Although, as you can probably tell, I enjoy GMing, and am really enjoying developing this campaign setting, so GMing extra content is no concern....
I think we can assume Levinson gained four levels on the road between CT and AZ, fending off insane cannibals, cultists, a pack of zombies that she ran afoul of in Texas, and in helping a friendly tribe of Navajos clear the northern Grand Canyon of chokers, gricks, zombies raised from ancient burial mounds by cult necromancers, and the cabal of necromancers themselves....
Which brings us to early April of 2013, when a group of allied rebels fighting against Cthulhu and his invading monsters from a base called Pandora's Box in the FL Everglades were forced to relocate to the Navajo's Grand Canyon stronghold after their Everglades base was discovered and raided by cult assassins under orders from a spawn of Cthulhu himself....
Over the course of five days, these friendly newcomers (mostly chemists, biologists, soldiers, and adventurers of various backgrounds) were teleported with their salvageable equipment from FL Everglades to AZ Grand Canyon by an eccentric old wizard claiming to be THE Merlin of Arthurian legend....
A sub-group of these newcomers known as The Fierce Ones (a sort of special ops group within the larger group, known as the Order of the Elder Sign) has teleported with this Merlin off to Scotland in search of the legendary sword Excalibur, so it can be wielded against the Old One and his minions by a member of the FOs known as Derrik, supposedly (according to this Merlin fellow) the reincarnated King Arthur returned to save his world from evil once more....
When The FOs return from their trip abroad, they will likely be pursuing another powerful artifact--Daisy, Doc Holliday's revolver, stolen from his grave by an evil rakshasa disguised as a gambler named Coal Withers--in the town of Tombstone, where Withers and his entourage have taken over and are forcing the survivors there to mine for gold in the canyons....

@Naomi I just want to make sure you know that your eidolon Can't look exactly like an owl bear only similar. Just a trivial thing but wanted to check. Welcome to the Fierce ones.
Right, it was the vague reference in my mind because I love how it is ridiculous yet awesome and somewhat otherworldly. Something along the lines of an Owlbear is what I was thinking but not exactly one. Part of why I chose an image other than the Paizo Owlbear. But I'm open to having to change the appearance as much as needed to fit the flavour text of Eidolon.
And hopefully I made my numbers/creation process transparent enough. I used the character folio app to check it over after making my paper copy. (Is this what an audit feels like?)

Prof. Naomi Levinson |

Oh noble Ruladin or GM or whoever might know:
While I know I cannot ride a bipedal Eidolon (insert Mad Max/Master Blaster reference), can the Eidolon carry me as though I were a sack of potatoes or something similar? Basically so I can take advantage of flying over things or to be lazy and not have to walk.
