The marine team skirts the west coast of Lido Key, scanning the beach in front of the three-story Sarasota Sands Resort.
A stairway and elevator connect the three levels on this side of the property as well.
A tiki hut (square, open, wood-post pavilion with peaked roof of palm fronds) can be seen on the beach, with a garbage can chained to one of its four posts, and a BBQ grill next to a picnic table under its shade.
Seven beach chairs are abandoned on the beach in front of the hotel.
A swimming pool and tennis court can be seen on the south side of the three-story hotel.
Perception checks from Prue, Radsworth, Kinyama, and Lakra please.

In the interest of tactics, is there currently a situation in which I could charge these guys from outside?
There are too many obstacles in Koran's path for a charge. He would have to run through the doorway and vault over the desk in the lobby to reach the lone lookout.
The Thing Under the Balcony |
Stealth 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (17) + 14 = 31
The Thing Under the Balcony clings motionless, an imperceptible darkness in the shadow of the balcony....
Perception 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (20) + 15 = 35
.... It perceives the pontoon bearing its next meal as it passes out on the sparkling blue waters of the gulf ....
.... Sweet nourishment ....

The lobby interior can be seen through the open frames where glass panes once served as windows, and tattered curtains stir in the faint breeze.
The desk separates the lobby from the back office.
The lobby contains a leather couch, two leather recliners, two end tables with unlit lamps on them (one with a TV remote on it), a coffee table with a coffee maker, a bookshelf (all the books have been looted), a 70-inch flatscreen TV that has been ripped off the wall and stomped upon in the middle of the lobby floor, an overturned brochure rack and hundreds of brochures strewn across the floor, and an empty water cooler, also overturned and bashed or stomped upon.
Kate Peace |
Grimm whispers to Koran. Let me take him out with the crossbow. If I miss, then charge, unless Mephos has a quieter approach.
Kate puts a hand on Dr Grimm's shoulder and casts guidance, granting +1 on his next attack.
"Good luck, Doc," she whispers in his ear.
Radsworth |
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Rad continues to obsess over his maps, adding tiny marks and symbols every time he finds something interesting. Landings, boat docks, camp grounds, all of it gets marked and noted.
"I love maps.." he muses aloud to whomever is listening. "Geography is an under appreciated facet of academia. Everyone assumed that satellite images and internet uplinks would always replace the need for a paper map. Why have one if you could just have your cell tell you where to go?"
He is curious however, about something he notices on the shore.
"Kermit.. why would someone tie trashcans to a tiki hut? Is there a survivalist function there I don't know about?"

The pontoon rides the waves, rising and falling over hills and valleys of liquid aquamarine. Schools of fish can be seen pacing the boat in the clear Gulf water, and occasional floating clouds of seaweed drift by.
The gulls cry, and pelicans dive to catch up fish in their great gullets.
The shoreline drifts by peacefully, the rumble of the pontoon's motor lulling the marine team into a post-adrenaline stupor as they watch the sun-bleached hotels and sandy shore roll past.
Mephos - Subject 210 |
"Holy s!~!! What did you just do to him, Mephos? Is he hypnotized or something?"
Kate puts up her fist for Mephos to bump.
I put him to sleep. Koran if you willhe gestures at the guard and makes a neck slicing motion, then awkwardly bumps Kate's fist
Dr. Hugo Grimm |
You could try, Koran, but I don't know what it would yield. As long as we finish him afterwards. These freaks make my skin crawl. I'm sure he'll cry out first chance he gets.
Prue Silversmith |
Oh FFS, my post must have gotten eaten... grr.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Prue keeps her gun and her attention firmly focused on the shoreline, not suspecting for an instant that something might be lurking above. She glances occasionally at Radsworth's map, pointing something out to him if he misses anything that seems important to updating the map to Lido Key's current condition.
"They could just be from before the fall, public trash cans... or somewhere for whoever was staying in the hut to dump their trash." Prue observes, not thinking it important.

The dead cannibal has a rifle on the desk and 40 rounds in his pockets.
There is a stool behind the desk, and a cash drawer lies empty on the floor behind the desk. The ruins of a desktop computer are also strewn about behind the desk.
A map of Lido Key is posted on the wall behind the desk, and there is a telephone, credit card machine, safe (open and empty), xerox machine, fax machine, a deck of business cards, a phone book, and a baseball bat all behind the desk.
Captain Kermit |
He is curious however, about something he notices on the shore.
"Kermit.. why would someone tie trashcans to a tiki hut? Is there a survivalist function there I don't know about?"
Cpt Kermit shrugs.
"The sea breeze can get pretty strong out on the beach, strong enough to blow one of those cans over into the next hotel's pool. Yep!"

The pontoon passes an even grander hotel north of the Sarasota Sands Resort--the Ritz Carlton Beach Residences rises several stories higher than the Sarasota Sands, with turrets and a tattered flag rippling in the wind on top.
Perception checks from Prue, Kinyama, Lakra, and Radsworth, please, vs Stealth 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23 modified for distance.....
Dr. Hugo Grimm |
Koran walks over to the sleeping guard and CDGs him. We can question a different one.
I like your style Koran.Sorry Kate.
Grimm picks up the rifle and 40 rounds and slings it across his back, still preferring to strike first with the quiet crossbow.
Dr. Hugo Grimm |

Mephos, that was amazing! How did you do that?

The land team moves through a doorway behind the desk into the back office, where they find a desk that appears to have been ransacked, with a 2012 desk calendar on it, an overturned file cabinet, a small refrigerator (empty) and microwave, another desktop computer (intact but nonfunctional), and a chair.
Another door can be seen, hanging slightly ajar, on the back wall of the office.
