You see a small niche in the wall holding a perpetually burning flame with no visible fuel source. The flame is slightly larger than hand-sized, and flickers with a deepest orange-red as well as setting off your detect magic.
K:The Planes:1d2 + 19 ⇒ (2) + 19 = 21(We'll use the Arcana roll.)
This perpetual flame deals 2d6 points of fire damage per round of contact and ignites flammable objects as normal, but it can also be physically carried as if it were a solid object. The flame itself can be wielded as a melee weapon or a thrown weapon (range increment 20 feet), and while damage caused by it is not increased by Strength, attacks made with the flame are touch attacks. The perpetual flame is worth 8,000 gp.
(The GM recommends a non-flammable container to store the perpetual flame.)
(Just waitin' on vacuum-cleaner Khayal and Nasir. Or you can jump ahead to the next vault on your own.)

Khayal makes his way into the room with his companions. Khayal is not a vacuum cleaner, but more of a realist. He sees no reason to leave the forgotten treasure here if it can help him and his friends in the future. If anyone asks him to leave it be, he would. ;)
Im not keen to be holding flame, but perhaps that cloth Artel gave us could carry it safely.
Artel's gift was nonmagical, and Rayhan & Bartan already checked it out. One of the gloves from Artel would be more than enough to hold the flame in the room safely, and turning a boot inside-out would double as a carrying bag.)
Hajar and Khayal jump safely through the curtain to the next room to the East. This room is much like the others, with a simple script on the brass ceiling as well as a picture of a salamander. Although instead of a simple lizard, this salamander is an upright creature half-man, half-snake.
A large harp constructed of ivory and copper sits in the northwest corner, its post in the shape of a veiled maiden.
Book says "large", PRD description says "held in one hand". Let's go with the book and says it's for a Large creature, but can be played whole-body by a normal Medium creature. Pedal harps weigh about 80 lbs and are six feet tall.
We'll bend the rules and say you can just barely fit it in a bag of holding Type I.

Khayal chuckles at Yazi’s remark about the weight of the load. Its hardly anything compared to what must have once been here. But more than I saw my entire life up until I met you.
Checking the quiver out, you discover that each of the lidded pockets has to be opened and your fingertips thrust therein before you can feel anything. The main pocket has four masterwork composite longbows and one masterwork shortbow. The first pocket on the side has a single javelin painted silver in it. The second side pocket holds twenty arrows painted black except for their arrowheads, which are clear and jagged like glass or frozen icicles.
Given how the items come nearly spring-loaded out of their sections, even though the quiver doesn't weigh a ton with all this weaponry, the quiver (and some of the items) must be magical.

In Khayal's vault, a small humanoid creature popped out of the Northern curtain of flame, looking around. It had a body like red-hot rock, stunted wings that dripped molten stone, and thick legs but spindly arms.
Seeing Khayal, the creature looked surprised, then hostile. It ran towards the human, opening its' mouth. The strange creature breathed a cone of fire at Khayal.
Reflex Save DC 13 for half:
You take 1d8 ⇒ 8 fire damage (don't forget Hajar's previous spell.)
Khayal's curved blades make short work of the small creature, expertly killing it. As it falls, the small humanoid makes a strange keeling sound, like a boiling pot of water, but much deeper in tone.
Knowledge:Nature DC 15:
That's not a death rattle. That's a cry for help...from others like its' kind.
Nasir enters the room from the Northern curtain, seeing Khayal next to a rapidly cooling pile of red-hot rocks.
DM rolls:
Time:1d20 ⇒ 14 Lucky
for Nasir:
Much like the other vaults, this brass ceiling has what looks like the standard warning in Igan. But the symbol is that of a small snake, not a jackal. Looking behind you, you see the large lamp in the middle of the "Dragon" room. You'd have to consult with Rayhan to make sure, but that means the "4-2-1" pattern you've been following will only lead you in circles from here on. You need to get to the vault whose animal you haven't seen yet - the Phoenix.
But maybe the fiery curtains have an additional rule you haven't learned yet...
Being on the Plane of Fire, it's not unheard of to run into a magma mephit. But they tend to be solitary, in pairs, or gangs (3–6), or even in a mob (7–12) of creatures. Which means there's a lava flow nearby. You're in the basement of the City of Brass, after all.
A small creature, much like the one at Khayal's feet, pops out of the curtain of fire Bartan just exited, right next to the human. It gives a hiss of anger at the scene in the vault.
(Rayhan can do the Knowledge: The Planes DC 13 check above, as well as...)
for Rayhan:
Much like the other vaults, this brass ceiling has the standard warning in Igan. But the symbol on the ceiling is that of a small snake, not a jackal. Which means, and you might want to consult with Nasir's pictures to be sure, that you will now go in "endless circles", as the script in the "Dragon" room stated. The path of 4-2-1 and no threes. The teleportation you just experienced confirms it.
To get beyond the circles, you will have to trust in the ones who crafted this vault system. If you visualize the animal of the vault you want to go to, then you will teleport to that vault when you go through a curtain. Including the "Phoenix" vault, which is not in the pattern of circles. As long as you don't enter a curtain with a "3" above it.
Is it a risk you're willing to take?
As others step through the fiery curtain, they see a small creature made of lava in front of them, or to the side, and the others standing around.
"We smell azer, tribe comes to offer tribute. Not to die in trap from taller ones. We leave."
The creature spits a droplet of lava at the floor, then retreats through the fire curtain behind it.
Perception DC 25:
Through the shimmering waves of the fire curtain to the North, you see the creature wave its' arms at several creatures like itself coming from the West. With much hissing and shaking fists at the Southern curtain, the magma creatures reverse their direction, leaving a trail of melted rock behind them.

Hello to all and thanks you for picking me, Hadassa. I'm eagerly waiting for the adventure to start. I left quite a bit gold on my character unspent but those are sort of "on hold" and I'll be spending them on something appropriate (maybe a few more scrolls).
I think it's safe to assume that the camels we ride on are on loan from Garavel. I also presume that food is included in the pay. Does the caravan have any significant npcs that we should know of beforehand?
By the way. Here's the portrait I used as inspiration for Dhavyn: Edwin by Artastrophe

Indeed. I wish there was an option for custom avatars. I'm pretty sure Art would agree on its use for such purpose. She created most if not all portraits in the downloadable BG/BG2 portrait packs. :)

@ Bahram I am looking forward to our interaction regarding Haleen. I assume my character will be younger than yours as you view Haleen as a childhood friend and to me she is more of an older sister or mother. I envision myself as being at least 10 to 12 years younger than her, I can adjust my age to fit. What would you like our relationship to be like? I would assume we know each other and you would be like an older brother. Do you have any other ideas?
Bahram likes to consider himself a ladies man, but when it comes to Haleen, she always was the one girl that could keep him straight.
I think Khayal would be like a little brother to bahram, but as he grew older it would be apparent that Bahram definitely liked Haleen a little more than just friends.
of course there was a parting of ways. and when Bahram knew he had to find Haleen, he would have sought out Khayal as it would be something they needed to do together.

Does everyone here have a lot of experience with PbP? So far I've only done one PFS scenario and a (sadly cancelled) RPG Superstar 2014 All-Star module.

There you are! The party's shaping up.
As far as PbP goes, I've played in a few campaigns over the past few years. I get a little picky though. I like being amongst people that enjoy writing! It really is my preferred way of RPing. All that fluff for Pathfinder is great for PbP games.
I'm guessing Hadassa likes the narrative just as much as the combat - if not more so, which is why I was particularly enticed by this game. Not to mention the fact that I'm just a sucker for desert themed games. I'm still looking for copies of that 2E module that was completely desert themed!
And I think I've chattered away long enough. Hope others chime in too.

Well I'm definitely one who enjoys writing, though most of my writing that's ever been (or in the process of being) published is RPG rules-text. I've got my first monster coming out in a Paizo-published book this July (in the 6th chapter of Mummy's Mask) and I've got two other assignments from Paizo in the works as well. I've written most of a novel but have been stuck on the way to end it for about 4 years now.

I have been played a few PbP modules, but have been role playing (DnD and otherwise for about ten years). I am looking forward to getting into a lasting campaign. I am currently on a ship and my role playing options are limited, as such I am happy that I have found this outlet (PbP).
@Bahram Khayal is indeed human and this works well for me:

Bartan, is the novel Pathfinder related at all? Can't wait to see your first monster! Glad that it's in a desert-themed AP. Which reminds me, I should go check out that AP.
Also, I've noticed from poking through people's gear that no one has food that I've seen so far (granted I haven't looked through everyone's equipment yet). Is this one of those campaigns where food/water isn't important? I've been conditioned through previous campaigns to definitely be prepared when it comes to basic necessities like food, water and shelter.

Hello everyone!
Yazi did you PM me? I must have missed your question, sorry!
I know Hajar asked about Dual Talent Alternate Race traits. Perfectly fine with me of course. And Anjali, worrying about food and water will slow the game and be boring so *fugidaboutit*. Spend your money on something fun like an acid bomb or something.
We have a very mixed group so I hope everyone can find something about the game to enjoy. I've always had a rule that if you are not having fun just please PM me before you quit! Because it's rare I can't find a solution to fire up your experience...Worse case I can kill off your character and you can make a new one, lol!
I do like the writing, and especially like plot twists and "OMG" moments in my games:) But I can run combat Nyoooo Problem too.
I'll start looking over your character sheets. I think we will probably start either tonight or tomorrow. I got to get some maps together for you!
You will all know Garavel, the man who hired you, at the start of the game, and will be traveling together on camel back to meet a desert-beauty princess who needs your help.
I am taking a trip July 4th - 18th where my post rate will be 1x per day. Otherwise I usually post 3-4, sometimes more.
Bartan, here is one way to do accents:

Spent the remaining gold on scrolls and potions and swapped out an item that did not make sense. I think I'm pretty much good to go. :)
Oh and I don't think I actually spoke too much about my gaming background. Technically speaking I'm not new to PBP games since I played rather active mix of PBP and OpenRPG but that was something like 10 years ago. I'm bound to be rusty!
I'm certainly not new to DnD as the first time I played was roughly 25 years ago. I think the first game was runequest but then we switched to red box DnD and AD&D shortly after. 3.5 is my favorite edition and it seems Pathfinder has only improved on it.
My favorite settings tend to be homebrews for two reasons: I tend to be too well versed in most official DnD realms so they lack the surprise element. It's not fun if you know the story beforehand. Too tempting to metagame. I do enjoy good stories and playing on forums is basically about writing collaborative fiction.
Pathfinder is not only a new ruleset, even if it's based on a familiar system, but also set up into a world unfamiliar to me. It's going to be exciting to explore the unknown. Naturally I *did* do some background research but purposedly avoided anything that might spoil the campaign.

Does anyone mind if people post more than the 1-2 times a day when we are in the "chattering with party members" stage or should we try to keep it within the limits so everyone has time to reply?
I'm seriously tempted to write more. :)

Hell yes role-playing is a free freakin action! I say post away, especially this early on. This is an important part of every new game where you guys kinduv gel together and make fun of each other's costumes, you know?
I still have a LOT of work to do preparing maps and such, so don't pay too much attention to Google Docs just yet. But we will use them a TON. I'll keep links updated at the top of the thread and in my race field. For now, the map of the hinterlands where this adventure unfolds is up. I'll try to keep that red X always pointing to your current location...but never be afraid to help me out and drag it where it should be! This map will really keep everyone oriented as we play.
One thing for everyone's sheets is to keep track of your character's total worth somewhere. Right now it's 300 (or should be, lol). I handle loot based on that figure.

Ooh, 300 gp? I assumed the standard 150 from PFS. I have some more buying to do!
Here's a brief description of caravans btw in case someone likes to use any of those elements to spice their RP.
Instead of saddles the camels have carriages called howdahs (from hawdaj, literally "bed carried by a camel"). They can be covered like the "tents" you see in the image or uncovered. Most caravan attendees actually walked since camel caravans are slow.
What it doesn't actually show very well is that each of the camels in a file (a group of 18 camels) is connected with a rope. The file itself is led by a camel-puller using the rope attached to the first camel.
Of course it's pretty safe to assume a fantasy societies would be using camel saddles as well.

Hey everyone! Sorry I'm late to the party. I didn't realize the gameplay/discussion threads were active.
I'll be the resident paladin/stick in the mud. My plan for Hajar is to have him be the party conscience, but by no means will he be Lawful Stupid or Smite All Evil All The Time. Nightdeath has watched me play Hajar before so I'm trusting that he is OK with that style.
Hajar is an ask questions, smite only when he needs to kinda guy. He would rather take prisoners if at all possible and show mercy when he can.

Avenka, you're welcome! Glad you were able to decipher my hurriedly written directions. :)
I was working under the assumption that since it was a long trip to get to the current location that the characters somewhat know each other at this point. Maybe some were more solitary during the journey?
Yeah I just looked at Bahram and Khayal's aliases....we need to work on how we are all related. Adoption works I guess, but Hajar was not adopted by Haleen, she was just a very influential person to him. I think Bahram has her as a love interest, so he would be older than Khayal and Hajar I would think?

If we traveled together for a while, then Avenka is not solitary, but neither is she "remarkable" among the group. She is in a learning process (like the player that plays her for that matter !), so she doesn't want to be in the front when social aspects are in play. When fight does happen though, it's very different ! She will be the first to scream in hapiness while releasing her savage side in combat.
Tonight I'm gonna check the google docs thing... Do I have to register to gmail to use it ?

Hajar - I was thinking who isn't Bahram's potential love interest? XD But yeah, seems like they discussed Bahram being older than Khayal. Guess it's up to you how you see Haleen fitting into Hajar's life.
Avenka - I'm always rooting for the female barbarians. I've played one for a short PFS module and it was a LOT of fun! Can't wait to see her in character in the Gameplay thread!
