Severely wounded by the constant barage of his surrounding foes, the Gnoll takes a knee. It breaths heavily, propping itself up by it's axe it says in broken common: I cannot win. But I will not beg. The half dead pugwampis on his belt begin to whimper and cry.

Card: 1d54 ⇒ 37 <- The Winged Serpent (Lawful Good, Wisdom)

"The Winged Serpent is the embodiment of knowledge and prudence bridged by understanding. I must understand more about this creature before I know what the fates require of it."

    Kakooyapesh the Gnoll Barbarian

I will sleep better knowing there is one less gnoll upon the sands. I say give this...thing what it wishes!" Her grip on her crossbow tightens, emphasizing her point.

    Kakooyapesh the Gnoll Barbarian

One of the pugwampis on Kakooyapesh's belt sighs and dies. Kakooyapesh looks at it, lifts it's head, and lets it dead-flop back down. Common: They do not last long once you tie them to the belt. heee hee heeee. But they love it! They think it great sacrifice. We gnolls are gods to the pugwampis. Bahram, coup de grace is a full round action and provokes attack of opportunity. The AoA gets resolved before the coup de grace is delivered. In this case, to facilitate the game, I'm going to say that any other player who wishes to stop this action can attempt to do so now with a single melee attack roll vs Brahman's flat footed AC. If successful, the narrative would be something like "as brahman's rapier speeds toward the Gnoll, XYZ characters deflects it just at the last second." If the AoA attacks fail, the Gnoll dies. I took the map down, so assume that anyone who was in a square threatened by the Gnoll may make this AoA attack roll if they wish.

While diciding what to do with the filthy Gnoll you find it's time to explore the monestary a bit and search out the rest of it's denizens.
    ENCOUNTER MAP UPDATED

Okay, you can explore the monastery a bit now. Exploration is notoriously difficult in pbp. But what I've done here is reveal some of the map and it's key. It contains all the skill checks specifically mentioned in the AP for your Roleplaying pleasure. Whatever your character does, assume all the other characters are in the room with you and can respond, help, ect. Unless you specifically say go off alone of course! Point is, time can be a looser concept in pbp exploration. When you guys are done with this area we will reveal more of the map. And if anyone knows a better way to handle exploration in pbp i'm all ears!

    A1:
Scrub brush and a light, patchy carpet of weeds invade the monastery through two huge fallen sections of the western wall. The exposed nave beyond is a huge hallway littered with bits of debris ranging from tiny rocks to enormous sections of collapsed masonry. Most of the roof above the long promenade is gone, but several jagged pillars remain.

    A1a:
A1a. This debris-laden chamber once held a shrine and wooden altar, but all of that was smashed decades ago by vandals. The ceiling here has remained intact over the years, helping to preserve a huge bas-relief statue of a muscular humanoid man with a pointy beard gesturing toward a huge mountain in the background, his face a picture of mortal concern.
    Knowledge(local) for the Mountain
    knowledge(religion) for the bearded figure

    A1b:
A1b. A similar statue adorns the eastern wall of this chamber, in this case with the bearded figure appearing on a hilltop to a group of robed pilgrims. The being holds up his hands, palms out, in a sign of peace. Though many of the faces and limbs on the bas-relief have been worn down or cut away, the expressions of those range from beatific to horrified.
    Perception for a secret
A crude stone stele that seems to have been erected more recently than the abandonment of the monastery stands here as well. Its graven inscription reads: “A ghost of unholy mien was purged from this place by Theodephus Estrovan, servant of Aroden, 4691 ar.”

    A2, A2b:
The old pews. A2a is the ladder up to the choir loft and A2b is the old altar. There is a torn up book on the altar knowledge(religion) DC10 identifies. Followers of Saranrae automatically succeed on the check.

    A2a:
While this ladder leads to the choir loft as you already know, it also continues, emerging way at the top of the minerate., where Almah wishes the Telescope be placed.

    A4:
A sweeping bas-relief sculpture along the north wall depicts five bearded, larger-than-life humans riding the wind with triumph carved upon their faces. Though some of their arms and hands are missing, each is clearly meant to wield a distinctive weapon. One of the five warriors holds a large axe, while another holds a fragment of what must once have been a regal staff. In the distance, an ominous mountain looms over the quintet. East of the wall decoration, two open arches lead into small rooms off the north wall. The south wall is little more than a series of open arches that look out into an open-air courtyard.
Knowledge (religion) for the 5 figures

    A5:
The eastern cloister walk abuts what must be the outer wall of the monastery itself. The lengthy wall bears a marred sculpture depicting the five figures from the north cloister mural in battle against numerous creatures of evil demeanor. Several of the creatures appear to be composed at least partly of fire, while others are much more difficult to define, being outright monsters of unknown origin or unusual warriors with weapons bonded into their flesh like organic tools. In the background Pale Mountain looms large, and over it two titanic figures lock in a deadly wrestler’s embrace. One has the demoniac visage of a noble efreeti, while the other is a gorgeous woman who could only be a djinni princess. Opposite the sculpted wall, a series of open arches leads out into an open-air courtyard.
    Knowledge (history) for the sculpture

    A6:
An open arch along the southern wall at the eastern end of the corridor leads off into darkness, while a series of archways lines the north wall, looking in on the monastery’s massively overgrown courtyard. The southern wall bears a bas-relief sculpture in the form of a triptych. In the first scene, a heroiclooking bearded figure takes leave of four similarly attired companions, who rise off into the heavens, leaving him to stand vigil over the large mountain in the background. The next scene depicts the bearded figure in battle with a flaming half man, half snake creature wielding a spear. The fire spirit transfixes the bearded hero with the spear, seemingly striking a killing blow. In the final scene, the hero appears twice—once on the ground with a wound in his back and once standing over this form, looking down upon it sadly.
    Knowledge(religion) for the entity

    A7:
The outer wall of the west cloister passage bears a massive carving. The central figure—the heroic man with the pointed beard—preaches to a variety of human clerics from throughout the long history of the monastery. The first image depicts the figure manifesting in a spiritual manner to a small group of pilgrims of Sarenrae. Another shows the figure conversing with a man in religious finery while the monastery itself is being constructed in the background. Thereafter follows a procession of similar poses, each depicting a visit by the bearded man and the leader of each era of the temple. The depictions of these clerics often also bear an identifying inscription, complete with dates that span the last several hundred years. The most recent carving is from thirty years ago, and while ample room remains for additional carvings on the west wall, the last thirty feet or so are completely blank. Two open arches on opposite ends of the west wall lead out into the ruined nave.

GEIER ENCOUNTER! You must role play exploring this area.

    A9:
    This is just a vestibule

    A10:
ENCOUNTER! You must Role Play exploring this area.

    A11:
What are you doing? There is no A11 on the map!

After helping whoever tie up the gnoll, Bartan heads toward the back of the large A1 room and looks into A1a.

"Hmm, interesting statues. If only I knew more about the area nearby, I might be able to tell you what this signifies."

No ranks in Kn. [local] or [religion], so not very useful in here!

    Hajar's Consumables Male(Human) Paladin 3 Oracle 9 (Abbot Protector of Kelmerane) | HP86| AC/Touch/Flat 22/11/21 | Fort/Ref/Will +14/+11/+14| Init: +1 | Percep: +8

To assist us in exploring might I suggest we place our tokens on the overmap to indicate where we are?

Hajar ties the gnoll to his own waist and says Sledite za mano in dal nobenih težav, za ta želi tvojo smrt. Hajar indicates Bahram.

    Gnollish:
Follow behind me and give no trouble, for this one wants your death.

To Avenka Hajar will say Honored Friend Avenka, The Gnoll Kakooyapesh has surrendered and I have accepted his surrender honorably. He will serve us as a guide and source of information as we explore further. The Princess will decide his fate when we return to the Caravan. However if he proves troublesome, I suggest you kill him with some alacrity. Hajar bows slightly to the woman.

As he passes Yazi Hajar whispers I thank you most kind and beautiful Yazi, you are as wise as you are beautiful.

Ah! A perfect opportunity for me to fix the fact that hardly anyone has trained know(religion) thanks, haha!
With Kakooyapesh as a guide, and assuming you RP asking him, you may make all knowledge checks in this monestary untrained. And if you are trained you receive a +2 bonus. Responses for this type of check will be delivered through Kakooyapesh based on your roll results.

Dhavyn wanders around seemingly aimlessly but keeping an eye for trouble and anything interesting.

"I still think it is unwise to stay here with the camp so close. There could be nastier things here than the Gnoll. All I'm saying it might be a good idea to recover and return."

He pauses to admire the relief at A1a statue "Is this supposed to be the St. Vardishal?" he muses aloud before continuing his exploration towards the Altar.

    Perception at A1a: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (13) + 0 = 13

"I wonder why this place was left abandoned. You would think the followers of Sarenrae would have been more interested in reclaiming it." He pokes the remains of the book but doesn't seem particularly interested in it and instead of that completes his route at the other chamber.

    Perception at A2b: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (1) + 0 = 1

"At least the folks here had a good taste in art" he pokes the statue curiously. "Shame the places is in shambles. I wonder if the princess intends to restores it fully. She seems like the type."

    Perception at A1b: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (11) + 0 = 11

Princess mentioned both St. Vardishal and Sarenrae. Edit: I don't mind exploring this way but I prefer sectioning that doesn't reveal as much of the plot. Basically each of us announces portions of the map they are going to explore and writes a rp blurp about it like I did. I generally use either a doorway or three sections as a splitter.
