AJM's Rise of the Runelords: Anniversary Edition Campaign

Game Master AJM8665

In the sleepy coastal town of Sandpoint, evil is brewing. An attack by crazed goblins reveals the shadows of a forgotten past returning to threaten the town—and perhaps all of Varisia.

hybrid also depends on build a lot, I have seen magi and bards hold down main tank, seen witch do main healer etc.

Well I guess I have a simple view of hybrid. Any spellcaster that does not get 9th lvl spells, is a hybrid to me. :3

Liberty's Edge

Already a million people applied, but I've been wanting to play this AP for a while now. Jelani was built for another RotRL game, but didn't get accepted. He fits your requirements, except I have a few more gold to work with by your rules. I'll spend the extra if I get accepted. Stats and everything in the profile.

Edit:He's going for Steel Falcon. Gonna pick up a level of Bard for the skills and wand use, but he'll mostly be a barbarian/fighter.

Hmmm...seemed to have gotten missed......not good I suppose. Applied way back on the first page, just before the 1/2 Orc cleric....

Great list! A lot of interesting characters I agree. It's nice to see three ½lings and a gnome submitted; the gnome especially feels (at times) like a forgotten race. I'm also surprised by four wizard submissions to one sorcerer; usually it's the other way around (from what I've seen anyways). Not much to put in the 5th slot; no gunslingers, oracles, witches, magi, monks (yet) though I'm sure by Saturday we'll have just about eveything.

Hmm. My profile still shows three traits; have to figure out why it isn't updating.

Really, in every game I've run I always have at least one gnome. I rarely see dwarves to be honest. My current Kingmaker game has 2 gnomes in a 6 player party.

I know it's a bit belated, but I've been trying to get into a single PbP here on the boards for quite a while now. Hopefully it's not too late for me to weasel my own submission in. While I apologize if things seem a bit wordy on my end (I tend to ramble!), I do hope you at least find him an entertaining read if Andrezi doesn't make it in :D

As far as group dynamics go, Andrezi's got a lot of potential options, seeing as I intend for him to just go straight Fighter without any fancy PrCs or anything like that. Oodles of feats means easy customization; he can either serve as a primary or backup tank through his meatiness and Antagonize, a Two-Weapon specialist for extra damage, can work crowd control with Dirty Trick and Trip later down the road, a ranged crossbowman if the need arises, a secondary face (sans Diplomacy, unfortunately) if we find the group short in that department, a secondary sneak, or even just there for morale and minor buffs with things like Butterfly's Sting, Swift Aid, and Defiant Luck! As he's built now though, he's falling into the foil role of crowd control, which is where I think he'd shine as a fifth wheel; putting a distinct emphasis on his ability to undermine foes with Improved Dirty Trick and Greater Dirty Trick along the Adventure Path.

Anyway, like I said, I tend to ramble and be wordy. Everything mechanical (though subject to change based on group dynamic if chosen) and background-wise is in the alias. Any feedback is welcome, as I'm always eager to find ways to improve my writing or streamline a character's background if it seems too clunky or downright implausible.

Oh! And preemptive best of luck to everyone. I've been reading through the submissions presented thus far, and I'm overwhelmed by the quality of these applications. No doubt it'll be a tough choice for poor AJM to choose just five of you guys :)

More time to kill this morning. Anyway, I've updated the list and organized it. To keep things simple, I've put all classes together under one of the four banners, though some feel maybe they might be under another.

As far as the utility player, I agree with some that many characters here could fall under that banner. I didn't put that category up, since it would just complicate things more.

In any event, have a look if you're interested.

Brilliant list again Mirela, just wanted to know if you could change my name, i changed it from Ictoo to Aemon.(And add im 2handed.

The breakdown of race is interesting, although i guess there are always more human to other races in party's and in sandpoint.

I was surprised there weren't more inquisitors.
That seemed such a natural for this one.

It is what I would have made if I hadn't found the fiendish vessel archtype.

I was only mentioning classes that hadn't been submitted which is why I didn't mention bards. It seems to me that most people assume the bard is going to be a skill monkey regardless of build but, of course, that isn't necessarily true.

I guess I have seen gnomes submitted but as I can't recall any ever being selected maybe it just seems that thy're more rare than they are. I've never been in a group with a gnome before (in PF) and only one ½ling (who was a barbarian of all things).

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Rulebook Subscriber

Huh, no Druids. Interesting.

Thanks for the updated list Mirela. Lets me consider my chances. xP

What the hay, I originally thought this character up for Kingmaker, but she's still kind of fascinating to me. If you read the history on her page, that is from Kingmaker. The history below is what I would use in this.

Originally born to a human family of Chelaxian descent, the woman who now calls herself Aka, the many lived has died more than once; been reborn more than once. Just this time, it was as a Goblin.

Born Lucinda Valdemar of the Magnimar Valdemars, she spent entirely too much time growing up flitting from passion to passion, until one day her passions were the death of her. Lucinda found herself the victim of a mugging by Sczarni thugs while on her way to a garden party. Fortunately for her, a visiting Druid of the Green Faith was also nearby. Though arriving too late to prevent her death, the Druid was struck with a powerful vision of Lucinda's stolen fate & proceeded to reincarnate her.

She came back a Troglodyte.

Her family was appalled. Lucinda was devastated, obviously her present form was utterly unsuitable for a Magnimaran lady of quality. She & they sought high & low for the means to somehow reverse the transmogrification.
As time passed however, Lucinda began to feel...
different.
She still had no interest in life as a Troglodyte, but much of her previous life came to seem...
petty, ridiculous even.
She sought the Druid responsible for her re-birth & requested to study with him, a request he seemed to expect even before she voiced it.
Over the next few years Lucinda became further & further dis-associated from her family & Magnimar society in general, although she developed a greater connection with her Great Uncle Ethram, as she & her master would often pass through Sandpoint in their journeys.
Earlier this Spring, Their journeys caught up to them. Ambushed by an entire tribe of Goblins in the foothills of the Fogscar Mountains, Lucinda saw her life ended for the second time. Only this time, she knew her master would not be able to bring her back, given that his own life's blood was flowing out as well.
Awakening the next morning at the sun shinning in her eyes was even more of a shock than what she awoke as. Her first thoughts upon seeing her reflection in the nearby stream.
At least I'll be able to do something about the smell now.
Making her way south, Lucinda, now calling herself Aka from her recollections of what few Goblin names she had ever learned is stopping in Sandpoint to return a few family trinkets to her Great Uncle Ethram & let him know his niece had passed into the Blue Lady's keeping.

Traits will be Charming & Merchant Family

Wouldn't you list Paladin as divine rather than martial, while they mix to two quite a bit I do see them as more divine (flavor wise at least).

I would have to disagree, paladins have a high BAB and their spellcasting maxes at 4th lvl. Even lower then hybrid (in my view anyway) classes. To top it off they dont even get spells til 4-5th lvl. Both paladins and rangers are martial classes, they just have a bit of spellcasting thrown in. Netheir class will ever focus on spells (barring archtypes etc.).

But thats just what I think, dont know much about paladins personally sense I never play them. x3

I noticed an error on my character sheet and it has been corrected, I use a light steel shield not a heavy to have the hand free for lay on hands.

I’m looking for five players for an upcoming Rise of the Runelords: Anniversary Edition PbP game I’ll be running. Recruitment will be open from now until 6:00 pm Friday, October 19th.

I usually prefer to select one type from each of the 'Big Four' character roles (i.e. 1 Arcane, 1 Divine, 1 Martial, and 1 Skilled plus an additional character (generally a hybrid class or an additional martial character, depending on which I feel the party needs more)). It's not a hard and fast rule, but thats the way things generally turn out.

Now for the fun part, the rules:
• Races: All standard races from the Pathfinder Core Rulebook will be allowed. Any other PC race will be considered on a case by case basis.
• Classes: All classes from PFRPG core rulebook plus those from the Advanced Player's Guide (APG), Ultimate Combat (UC), and Ultimate Magic (UM) will be allowed. Any Archetype for these base classes (again from the APG, UM, or UC) will be allowed.
• Alignment: Characters can be of any Good or Neutral alignment. No evil alignments will be allowed.
• Abilities: Characters will be based on the High Fantasy (20 point) buy, found in the PFRPG Core Rulebook on page 16. No ability can be raised higher than 18 (prior to racial modifiers). Only one ability may be lowered below 10 and that ability cannot be lowered below 8 (prior to racial modifiers).
• Feats: Any feat from the Core Rulebook, APG, UM, or UC will be acceptable. Any 3.5 or 3PP material you wish to use will have to be approved by me prior to acceptance.
• Traits: Character's will start with two traits, one of which MUST be from the Rise of the Runelords: Anniversary Edition Player's Guide or from the Shadows Under Sandpoint section of the Traits chapter of the APG.
• Hit Points: Characters will start out with Maximum hit points for their class at 1st level. After 1st level character's will roll for their hit points or take the average of their particular hit dice (rounded up), whichever is greater.
• Starting Gold: Characters will start with...

hi!my names mike.. im interested in joining. what (if any) characters do you have so far?... the 2 classes i prefer are arcane caster (usually sor) and rogue or multiclass rogue/bard ive got a few character concepts id like to use but id like to talk to you a bit first.

Take a look at my post about ten up from earlier today, it breaks down who has applied with what.

I realize now its by class roll in a party not flavor. Flavor I consider paladins divine, but in class roles I would list them as martial.

I was wondering if we could submit more than one character for consideration or do we need to keep it to one per person?

Obviously only play one character in the actual campaign just submitting two for consideration to play.

Yeah, I thought about that. I have an awesome lame aasimar oracle of life (raised by halflings) who's only made it through one 4th-level superstar encounter, having been abandoned at Oleg's and in a 7th-level module. But for one, I think that would be cruel to the OP, given how many applications there are already; and for another, I'd like to give a new character a chance.

@Mirela Malvo: Jayna Delasio is specifically a paladin of Sarenrae. It's very integrated into her background -- all the way down to what street the temple is on in her hometown! -- so I'd appreciate it if you'd include it in your helpful list. :)

And the list continues to grow.

2 days until the deadline. Oh the waiting is torture. xp

Its a tough gig to get a spot in one of these things. Worth it though.

Yeah, if I'd known Martial was going to be the roughest then I would have tried for a different category.

Hey all, sorry for the delay but i've been pretty busy at work these past few days. That being said i've finally gotten through all the current submissions and will be PM'ing questions to people today and tomorrow.
If anybody wants to submit another character in another category, please feel free to do so. I would rather have an embarrassment of riches as far as selection goes.

Do you need the equipment section to be finished or can we wait til picked to do our shopping?

Ah good! Let the handwringing begin. I will stand strong with Vachordi here, I like the character, happy to make alterations, but I think he is interesting and potentially a good party member...hopefully AJM agrees.

Good luck folks

An interesting group. He thought; scanning each, taking in every detail he could remember. It's unlikely I will find himself counted among these heroes. But not impossible.

He retreated back into the shadows, content for now to watch. To wait.

Yeah I am sticking to Zoruk, going to hold on to my strong points. He is just all sorts of win and awesome to me, hopefully for the party too. So all I can do is wait and hope. ;)

Personally I see alot of strong contenders already. I do not envy the DM. xP

If you think of anything, by all means ask. It makes me feel better about my chances of getting picked, whether or not it actually improves them.

yep, i feel you on that one wolf.

im always tempted to wait until the end to submit to be fresh in the runners mind.

the one i am running i was all set and someone snuck in with a submission at the last hour.
though I also selected someone from the first page of it as well.

Personally timing of submissions would not factor in for me. At best I would think earlier submissions were more active then later ones, which is desireable. At worst I would think they were just not looking for a game at the time, so no reason to consider them more then others.

But if it works for you, more power to you. :)

I couldn't say if it does...I think I submitted on page one :)

I did have the barbarian character I mentioned statted up, but with how this Doon-Kahahn ended up I'm going to stick with him, I think he'll be more enjoyable :)

This is Fredrik's character, updated with a full profile including stats and gear. Not that you need it, but I had the time.

Description:
You see a yard-tall young woman with pointy ears, almond skin, bare feet, and gauntleted hands (one of them spiky). She wears a chain shirt over her practical clothes and carries herself with the unconscious confidence of someone who is accustomed to always being in control of the situation. Her straw hair and hazel eyes are striking -- but her two-handed sword, long hammer, and sling on a stick are more concerning. The well-armed halfling strides along effortlessly as she scans the crowd; and when you meet her eyes, she looks past yours, seeming to weigh your soul.

I didn't see anything saying that recruitment had been closed. Hope it's still open.

Spectrum is an Elven Wizard originally made for a RotRL game that just died yesterday. He's logical, calculating, extremely creative and a fairly aloof.

He's deeply tied to the background of the story, lives in Amiko's Inn (the Rusty Dragon) in Sandpoint and has two newborn Psudodragons that keep him as their pet.

As a player, I'm easy going, reliable and and excellent writer.

I'm willing to make any changes necessary to fit Spectrum into this game.

Awww...who could say no to baby Psudodragons. :)

I could and so could you after being sting repeatedly cause they think its fun. xP

Oh, the suspense is terrible.

I hope it'll last.

Looks great Adventus! Great idea.

Patre Terratus and Neronius Sar are the only two without aliases set up.

Guess I could cast speak with animals and try to convince the pseudodragons to behave themselves? I could be the "pseudodragon whisperer".

Posting for consideration. The character is a Slyph with human parents, if I need to change race that is fine.

Background in the profile.

Is Rance! always addressed with exclamation? ;)

I think Rance! should be. Must be a cultural thing.

Thank you for the linkage, Adventus Artemidorus. You have revealed that the competition isn't just talented and fierce; it's also prepared and organized. I mean really, 32 out of 34 with aliases? Wow.

I'm very picky about what games I apply to -- and apparently I'm not the only one. This is definitely one of those games where you shouldn't feel bad about not getting picked, since the DM has to choose between awesome, awesome, and awesome. (A nice problem to have.)

Martial always has the most applicants. They are the easiest characters to make, and to play. Most adventure path recruitments are this competitive. This is my third attempt with Jelani to get into an AP. All you can do is cross your fingers and hope you gel well with the others/DM.
