About Gideon Goldmane
He is on the run from the Sczarni after pocketing the profit from an item of theirs, instead of delivering it as planned. He used the money to head out to Sandpoint not only to escape a life of crime he found distasteful, but to begin his dream of becoming a world famous treasure hunter and adventurer.
2. He truly believes in the power of luck. As such, he actively pursues feats of daring and appreciates a bit of recklessness and risk taking in others. He’s more likely to blame bad luck or the odds being stacked against him than admit he might be at fault after a foul up. He can think of nothing more boring than getting things done “by the book” and is quick to ridicule overly lawful or cautious characters for being slow or tiresome.
3. Gideon has a lot of time for Dwarves that don’t fit into the above category, having spent a lot of time around them buying and selling for the Sczarni. Dwarves share his interest in both treasure and beer, with many a story from Dwarven heroes serving as a catalyst for his own dreams of riches and adventurer in the wild places of the world. Conversely he is pretty disdainful of elves, whom he considers condescending and a bit too full of themselves. This stems mainly from his angry and short-lived relationship with his father, a particularly passionless and aloof Elven aristocrat named Vanos Galerion; currently living in Magnamar.
It might be a thin line, but Gideon does see the difference between “rescuing” lost or stolen treasure, and stealing from the innocent.
1. At the DM’s discretion; the Sczarni can either be actively pursuing Gideon or have deemed him too small fry to chase. Either way, he will never be comfortable around people openly dealing with or associated with the Sczarni for fear of sudden reprisal.
