Male Unknown 16 Invulnerable Rager/ 16 Hex Crafter Magus
Arcane Pool: 11/13
Seeing that he will have a hard time hitting the beast he places his sword before his face before unleashing an assault on the beast.
I do not know if I got hit by Haste so will put this one in case. Bonus Hit:1d20 + 38 ⇒ (7) + 38 = 453d8 + 46 ⇒ (1, 7, 4) + 46 = 58
Accurate Strike:
Accurate Strike (Ex): The magus can expend 2 points from his arcane pool as a swift action to resolve all of his melee weapon attacks until the end of his turn as melee touch attacks. The magus must be at least 9th level before selecting this arcana.
First hit was just to get close to the thing now it is the time to hurt it *evil grin*
I'm assuming Ephebe got rocked by that damage... Krays grabs Ephebe and ports her to the infirmary, and then goes back and plays ambulance, as his magic cannot affect this thing...

Fei races around desperately trying to get injured students out of harm's way so they can be teleported to safer locations. The metal dragon's lashings take out the First Aid Station, shattering most of the larger bits of gear there.
As he passes by its wreckage, he notices a sparking off to the side. One of the healing staves that had been brought had a large crack along its center - and that crack was spreading.
Fei quickly grabs the staff as he runs by, wrapping his hands around the crack and concentrating for a moment. The staff stops sparking, and gives a resounding *CRACK* as it finally shatters...but it does not detonate. Fei's eyes glow with a silver-white light for a second, then fade back to their normal color. The young monk drops the drained item and heads toward the metal dragon. He sees the magic of the other students sliding off of it, and decides to hold onto his magical energies for other uses.
Taking a few seconds to position himself effectively, he launches a physical assault on the beast. As he begins, his trepidation and fear seem to abate, replaced by an almost supernal calm...
Flurry of Blows utilizing Dragon Strikes the Waves to target the metal dragon's Touch AC, and (unknowingly for the moment) supplemented by a wee bit o' Courage:
The gear wyrm was not affected by Jim's rusting grasp at all, and he just didn't seem to be able to connect. Fei's punches were definitely connecting, but didn't seem to have enough power behind them to do any real damage. DR 20/epic and adamantine. But Enre actually put a few small dents in it. It turned its full attention towards him, very pissed off.
Interesting thought. Let's try it out. I've got nothing better to do than wait for 20s.
Jim opens the hatch on his chest, retrieving his tools.
Jim will try to open a flap, or something, anything while it's distracted.

You're not sure who built this thing, but you're pretty sure they were completely out of their minds. Also, there don't appear to be any access ports of any kind.
Ephebe blinked and bit back a groan. She was still conscious, but she was pretty sure that there was severe damage to a couple of internal organs and definitely some broken bones. She waved the healer away as she pulled out her Caster and shot herself with a Heal. She took a second to breathe as the pain faded away. And then she got to work. She could do a lot more good right now helping to heal people than she could do by getting herself squished again.

Well, damn.
Jim gives up on his endeavor to harm this thing, slaps yet another device on in an attempt to at least not be eaten by this thing Freedom of Movement, and starts gathering students as best he can, to bring them to safety.
He jumped underneath the claws of the creature again, just barely avoiding getting squished. He was scooping up unconscious students as fast as he could, but too many of them were already beyond help. He scooped up another one that might still be among the living and ran towards the exit.
Gaelvin had avoided whatever in the nine hells that thing was. But as it seemed to be sticking around and trying to kill everyone he choose not to run as far as he could from it, at least not just yet. He started to play a number of songs at once letting them wash over friend and foe alike granting a number of effects.
Nasima gives up being a cloud and re-solidifies on the ground. I suppose this thing's got scanners or infrared or whatever and can just see through any obstacle. She leaves her clothes where they fell when she went incorporeal -- no time to pick them back up -- and just leaves a thin and strategically opaque sheet of cloud covering her body in a form-fitting "suit" as she helps with the rescue efforts, always careful to leave herself out of the line of fire. Or stomp.
Even if I could summon Khoda more than once a day, I'm not sure I'd want to; I think the two of them fighting would do more harm than good, and anyway I just don't have the horsepower to keep him on a leash now. She shakes her head in dismay as she pulls what she assumes is a body out of the cafeteria, her eyes filling with tears. Thunderheads! This was just a kid! What kind of...who does this to kids? I gotta get better. I coulda stopped this. If I was good enough, I could call Him and stop this...
Weeping silently, her mouth a hyphen of determination, the sylph pulls corpse after corpse out of the ruined concert hall.

Gaelvin, does that affect all constructs? Also, Lyn would that affect me, as I am technically of the Living Construct type, and not a regular construct?

Your not considered an enemy so it has no effect on you. He has complete control of his songs. ;)
::Which would you like me to attend to, headmaster?::
::Normally I'd say the dragon, but I might end up needing someone to hold me back... go toward the dragon.::
With a flick of his wrist a card slid from inside his sleeve to the ground in front of the mod, creating a huge earthen wall around the school. "You shall not pass!"
"Explain yourselves before I remove you from school grounds forcefully!" He shouts at the crowd. "The next person to throw a rock will regret it!"
Up in Ryo's office, Lysander has made the mistake of trying to find out what was happening while his little cousins were watching. The few seconds of live feed into the basement had caused them to start crying, and he couldn't get them to calm down no matter how hard he tried.

Hmmm - I guess I'll just try and see if I can tickle this thing's fancy for now...
Shaking the tingling out of his hands, Fei sees the beast go after another student. Taking advantage of the creature's diverted attention, he leaps onto its back Acrobatics 1d20 + 42 ⇒ (12) + 42 = 54and proceeds to race up towards the thing's head...
Aananda arrived in the basement, and quickly made her presence known by causing the rock under the gear worm's feet and tail to become soft and then rapidly re-solidify, temporarily trapping it.
"I'll keep it busy," she shouted. "Get the wounded out of here!"
"And the dead too if you can manage, or there won't be enough left of them to try to bring them back."
As Kitty approaches Vai, she notices the wings on her back are similar to the ones granted by the dragonsong, but don't appear to be illusory.
"Huh, that's weird. Well, no time to worry about it now," she said as she tried to lift the other girl while being constantly jostled by fleeing students.
Warforged Engineer Alchemist 16/Armiger 16 Champion of Creation
Jim, hearing Aananda's orders, starts scooping up the remains of as many of the injured/dead students as possible, flying between the dragon's legs to get to the bodies.
Slarrow stops croaking when he sees he's been noticed. He hops up onto Michael's shoulder. He doesn't understand what they're saying, or what's going on, but the tiny slurk is angry.
*Ribbit*
There are shouts of surprise as the wall comes up.
"He's a Cardcaster!"
"I told you!"
"We're here to kill the dragons!"
"We're here to shut you down!"
"Maybe we should go!"
"Kill him!"
The girl wasn't hurt, that much Michael could see, and he picked up Vakkler while helping Kitty get Vai up.
Then Michael realizes something. Something very bad.
"Where's Saffire?"
Kitty paled. "What?! But...he was on my shoulder when we started running.....oh, no! He must have slipped off when Keme grabbed our shoulders to pull us out to the hallway! He's too little. He'll get trampled in this!"

"When will you fools get with the times!? The dragons of legend have been extinct for thousands of years and it's a well known fact that I'm a Cardcaster, since I've been trying to get rid of all the ignorance-born rumors about us!" Ryo shouts, his eyes swirling with gray. "Now, since I've been threatened twice... GET OFF MY LAWN!"
The ground under the mob shudders and cracks as it suddenly becomes a very steep hill that slopes away from the school.
Kitty paled. "What?! But...he was on my shoulder when we started running.....oh, no! He must have slipped off when Keme grabbed our shoulders to pull us out to the hallway! He's too little. He'll get trampled in this!"
Michael tosses SLarrow to Kitty and pushes Vakkler into the hall on what looks like a wave of stone.
"Kitty, get out of here. I'll find Saffire and get out of here as fast as I can. I love you." He kisses her once before running off into the surging crowd in search of their little drake.
"Michael, wait..!" She was stopped from following by Keme grabbing her and shoving her in the other direction, towards safety.
"You heard him, Kitty. The sooner I get you and these guys out of danger the sooner I can go back and help your boyfriend, so get a move on and let's get out of here!"
He sighed inwardly. Of all the lame assignments Hope had given him, protecting this airhead was definitely near the top of the list of most annoying.
My PC is toast right now, so I have no way of checking the comcast email (not entirely true, but using my son's netbook is soooooooo slow that it might as well be true), so if you could resend that to my yahoo account, that would be great. I'm going to have to spend some time chatting with dell tech support tonight and hope there's something they can do to make it better. :/

Filne had studied the beast and what his own summon had been able to do to it. Magic seemed to be a limited weapon at best. High physical abilities, both offense and defense. It seemed brute force would be the best option but nothing less then a titan would even wound the thing. Running thru the list of spells he had, bearly a handful would be of any use on the thing. Their were only three spells that had a chance. One was reasonable enough the other two gave him pause.
"You know I really am starting not to like you."
He started casting another mighty spell. The air hammering down once more on the beast. He hoped things would be resolved before his spell was completed.
Gear Wyrm takes 83 dmg after DR. Well Gaelvin just made this thing a whole lot stronger. :) Edit-Pfft no wonder the numbers seemed so low I put d6's when they were supposed to be d8's.

Roger that. Inbound now :)
And replied. :)
And back at ya. Let's show 'em how it's done, neh? ;D
::Defensive maneuvers, Fei,:: she said telepathically right before she started pelting the creature with rocks...mostly small rocks, no bigger than a foot across. There were still noncombatants working to get people out of the blast area so she couldn't risk using anything truly large yet. She made no effort at all to keep the flurry of stones from hitting Fei.
Okay. That works. Still not sure about the whole time thing, I think I'm more confused now. Anyways, I have to go take a test so I'll be offline for a couple of hours, but I'll be back after that.
lol. Well, if he's from 700 years in the future, he could easily be your great-great-grandchild, no baby mama drama involved. :)
Actually... given the fact Krays is still young, he very well could be the father.
Weirdest paternity test results ever.
Well, given the life span of dragons he could very well be a half-brother instead.....or no relation whatsoever. After all, there are a lot of black dragons in the Empire. But I'm trying to figure out why someone would time travel to leave him the note and stuff.
It was nice to almost think he might get laid eventually...
It's tough being a kobold, perpetually stuck in the friend zone...cause even if you meet a nice kobold female, how is she gonna handle things when she finds out he's a dragon? ;P
In all seriousness, it's up to you whether or not you think this guy should be related in any of the ways already suggested. :)
Yeah, when the possibilities were only other kobolds, it was bad enough. Now it's expanded to dragons, and the odds havent really increased...
Well, he did threaten to start an army of half dragons...
This is rules light, so while it can be helpful to have so much detail, it's not required. Just so you know what to expect. :)
Your attack bonuses may be a bit on the low side, you're welcome to play with them as is and then change them if you find you can't hit the broad side of a barn....or you could just bump them by a couple of points and call it good now.
The one thing that is definitely a bit off is the equipment. This is a school, so no one is walking around in full adventuring gear. If there's something that is important to your character concept then you can pick two to three magic items. Normal gear is pretty much universally available if needed, so no need to worry about it. Normal gear that is an important personal possession is fine to keep.
Equipment:
+3 Keen, Ghost Touch, Shocking Burst, Adamantine Khopesh
Portable Hole
+3 Improved Shadow Mithreal Shirt(Green & Purple)
Piper's Goggles: Smoked Goggles with the penalties removed and True Seeing on them. Has the inscription "I'm all out of Bubblegum" on the inside.
Morning star
Riding harness for familiar
Alchemist Kit
Component Pouch
Formula Book
Masterwork thieves tool kit
Belt Pouches x3
Traveler's Outfit (with kilt, hat and belts)
Potion of cure light wounds x3
Traits:
Calistrian Prostitute, fast talker, Magical Knack (witch)
Looks good. Feel free to head on over to the discussion thread and introduce yourself. All heck is about to break loose so you have the option of arriving at Avalon just as that happens or wait for that to be somewhat resolved. Your choice.
Well, this is a fairly strange game, for the following reasons.
1. We are a rules light/rule of cool game that focuses more on roleplay.
2. Eventually, if they wish it, everyone will get a chance to DM a plot or story arc. Sometimes even when others are in progress too.
3. You don't have to have your character statted up, and you can have weird powers or abilities that there aren't rules for(within reason, of course).
Actually, I think that's it. :)
Since this is a school based play-by-post, equipment isn't needed, but your character can have special gear if it fits their backstory(not needed, but helpful for everyone to get a feel for the character).
If I've missed something, Lyn should be along shortly to say what it is.
There's a 16th level cap for student characters. Teacher characters are allowed, and can be in the low epic range. The restrictions are placed where they are to avoid people having access to wish. It is much more powerful in this world than the standard.
Gestalt is allowed and frequently used. We're loosely based on Pathfinder rules.
Pretty much any race will be allowed, but dragons take extra work on the backstory so be forewarned.
If you've got an idea or a story arc that you really want to see used, we can always work that stuff out via email, whether it's something you want to run or something you want run for you. I really try to make sure there's something for everyone. If I'm not doing a good job of that, all it takes is a reminder and I will fix it as soon as possible.
I am very late coming to this, but would be interested in joining in if there is still room. I am relatively new to pbp, but have liked my experience with it so far. I see that this is not a new recruitment thread, so I hoping I am not too late.
I have never had a DM willing to let me play a dragon so that is what I would most be interested in. Or perhaps a redeemed demon or devil.
Avalon is always open to new players. We have no upper limit to number of participants and it is possible to join in the action at any point as there are often multiple storylines running at once.
On to the complicated....someone always wants to do the complicated. : )
First of all, I would strongly encourage you to read the background info on Agartha before committing to an idea. Dragons are persona non grata within Agartha and we would have to do some serious work on background to come up with a believable reason for a draconic character. It's been done, but it takes a lot of work.
A redeemed demon or devil could be worked in easily I think.
Is this campaign open to psionic characters from Dreamscarred Press' Psionics Unleashed? I'm looking to recycle a Psion (Shaper) character after being thoroughly rejected by 3/4 players and the GM in another game. :( No one was open to accepting a new psionic character in their game.
I've read Agartha's background on the Campaign Info tab, and I would like to be a new, young student at Avalon Academy. The first Human psionic in the world of Agartha being tested by the teachers. I would like to be Level 1 and learn the ins and outs of being an Astral Construct-specific psion crafter as the character levels.
I'll need to tweak Gustav's background quite a bit before starting, in order to get into the Dragonstar setting.
If this is out of the question, just respond here. Otherwise, if any GMs wish to e-mail me, I can be reached at jeremy at jeremyhpace dot org.
I love psionics! We have lots of it in game. (This should not be surprising in a world built by psionic dragons in order to get away from other dragons.) : )
.....starting at level 1 would be a problem. I shudder to think how many raise deads we'd have to cast on your guy....before breakfast....because someone sneezed on him. ;P
This is a high level game. Level range for characters is between 14 and 16. I use the Psionics Unleashed book myself so making a character from there would be no problem. Being the first of anything psionic is unlikely, but certainly the first from your particular community would not be unusual. But in a school that specializes in the unusual even the freakiest characters don't stand out as much as they're used to. Since the school specializes in helping kids who don't have control of their powers, it's pretty easy to work it so you don't necessarily know how to access all of your powers, or they work unreliably if you really want to focus on the aspect of discovery of his abilities as part of your character.
Level 14 is...rather high. I've honestly only played one character ever that high, I'm more used to a Level 5-8 character. Hmmmm....this may call for the "amnesia" plot device. A character able to cast Level 14 powers but around 30 or so and missing the last 12-14 years of his memories.
Any more information on the world? As in, location of towns, demographics, level of technology, etc? I've actually played Dragonstar a loooonnnngg time ago, so what's the WBL?
And when's a good time to come in to the next plot/game on the Gameplay tab?
It's a school, so a teenager would be a more appropriate character. A 30 year old would feel very out of place as a student among a bunch of adolescents. As for how the character became so powerful, don't feel like you have to justify that. It's just how his powers happened. Think X-men rather than traditional adventuring group.
As far as towns and such you don't really have to worry about it too much as the action mostly takes place in Avalon Academy. If you have an idea of what kind of background your guy is from then I can tell you what part of the world that would be found in.
Don't worry too much about knowledge of Dragonstar. Agartha is completely cut off from the Empire and has been for centuries. Most of the natives don't even know about the existence of anything beyond Agartha itself. The school is unique in that it actually does include a few off-worlders. There are very limited ways to get into Agartha in the first place.
You don't need to worry about wealthy by level. You can have a couple of magic items that are important to your concept, but otherwise equipment is mostly provided for you. Mundane equipment is easy to obtain. Magical equipment less so and mostly on an as needed basis.
Basically I like to hash out the character here and then once that's done enough to be ready for play I'll let you know and you can introduce yourself in the discussion thread. And we'll get you into the game as soon as possible, which should be almost immediately at that point.
Okay, I have read the background info, and I can see where having a dragon character would be complicated. If you would rather not deal with it I can bring the redeemed fiend idea more fully to life.
My two fiend ideas are 1) a quasit or imp that was influenced by a mortal spellcaster and "corrupted" to serve the cause of good, and 2) a Vrolikai Demon (from the pathfinder bestiary 2) that was the subject of the Sanctify the Wicked spell from the book of exalted deeds.
I suspect the power level of the Vrolikai is above that of the regular creation rules, but I have ideas how to deal with that which tie into the whole "learning about his abilities" idea of the academy.
The quasit is a much more straightforward concept.
For a dragon, I do have an idea or two that may work to fit in your world.
A quasit would definitely work. Since wishcraft is not an issue, we can make the vrolikai work without too much trouble. (That's why the level cap is where it is, to prevent access to wish). In general I would lean towards the quasit, but that's just because quasits are fun not because I have any bias against the other concept. :)
Depending on the idea we can potentially make a dragon concept work, it's just more work. If that's really your first choice you can feel free to pitch the concept and we can work on what we need to do to make it work.
Sorry to be a bother, but after reading Taron Sunwake's profile...
I can see a Headband of Intellect being a signature item, but choosing between +2, +4, and +6...what was the WBL again? :)
OK to be covered in psionic tattoos off the bat? Or liberal use of the Incarnate power?
I need some limits...
Starting to get a background idea. Prodigy from a rural area that didn't know what to do with him, so the townspeople sent him to the Academy. He can either be dirt poor or cut off from his wealth. Major crafter (lots of crafting feats), he would basically say "Where's the forge and workshops?" and disappear for days.
Since this appears to be a high-psionic world, how concerned should my character be on self-defense powers against telepathy? Dispel Psionics? Fold Space and Psychoport? Bend Reality? (I saw your post on Wish.)
I tend to make Jack-of-All-Trades characters, so give him a fortnight alone and he'll start sharing the psionic tattoos or handing out the magical clothing, arms, and armor. In battle, battlefield control with Astral Construct, Energy Wall, etc, and then stand off with blaster powers picking off various targets. Working with other psionics would actually be a new experience for me.
Okay, not necessarily in order asked:
Bend Reality is basically equivalent to Limited Wish, which is not restricted. Wish and Reality Revision are restricted.
When deciding the importance of self-defense type powers keep in mind that we follow the default rule of psionics-magic transparency. Dispel psionics works against magic and dispel magic works against psionics. So yeah, defense is always a good idea.
Teleportation powers work fine within Agartha. It's getting out of Agartha that's tricky. There are some folks that can do it, but those are special cases. So yes, things like fold space and psychoportation work normally.
Crafting is definitely allowed and basic materials will be provided in the various workshops on campus. While there are certain events and field trips etc where greater access to magic items is allowed, for the most part those items crafted are set aside for such occasions. Psionic tattoos on the other hand are more like potions or scrolls and would be treated more leniently in that regard.
Seriously, don't worry about wealth by level. If you want to make sure that an item is not too powerful for your level, well, ask, or if you have access to the magic item compendium they provide good guidelines for that. But since you only get a couple of magic items, it's usually okay for them to be on the more powerful side.
I hope that addressed all of your questions, sorry if I missed one. I tried. :)
So, though I have finally found a DM willing to let me play a dragon, I find myself returning over and over to the Quasit. So I think I will go with that. Now, you said loosely based on Pathfinder, and Gestalt is allowed, Would you have any objection to a level 16 Quasit using gestalt levels? What are your gestalt guidelines?
Also, I don't know if I just missed it, but I didn't see any creation guidelines. I know this is rules-light, which I don't really grock, but if you could give me some guidelines that would be great.
