Jen the Cat |
Okay, basically done. It's essentially as rules-lite as possible, and has all the required fields (with a little blurb on how they work, so I don't have to go back and read the rules every time).
In terms of combat, Jen does not have very high hp, but I compensated by putting the WBL towards AC boosting items, since she might have to front-line as a paladin. They are all physically very small and not noticeable, so it shouldn't conflict with the school uniform and such.
Also made a new alignment, known as Feline Lawful Good (which is like Lawful with many chaotic tendencies, which are just the nature of cats)
Finally, even though she gets aura of courage as a paladin of level 6, I am "taking it out" along with a few other paladin abilities, as that will give her something to progress towards, as cats are not known to have courage, and that is something for her to progress towards.
Large Luigi |
Luigi is on another planet at the moment. I'm thinking about asking him to come and be one of our cooks.
"AHAHAHAHAHA! THAT AMUSES ME!"
"YOU'S STILL A FUNNY GUY....BUT YOUS STILL CAN'T AFFORD MY RATES, CHOOMBA...." ;P

Skivven |
Hello, Dragonborn3 has been talking my ear off about this PBP and (coupled with a new, relatively sane work schedule starting Monday) has broken me into giving it a run. ;)
May I introduce Skivven, a mid-level, adolescent Ratfolk (8ish in level, around 10 years old) gestalt Grenadier Alchemist/Shadow Illusionist Wizard (Currently prohibiting Evocation and Enchantment.) Skivven is a quirky little character with the secret of being vastly more intelligent than he allows anyone to give him credit for due to his behavior patterns. He appears mostly harmless by subservient mannerisms, speaking common with Ratfolk grammar (singular pronouns have NO PLACE in a warren of 30+ family/tribe members,) and carefully deflecting probing questions ("Skivven's no trouble, Skivven merchant, many many nice potions for sale. You like?") His goal in attending the Academy is so much to control his abilities at this point, but to unlock his potential. On a side note, animals hate poor little Skivven, and the gods help whoever backs the puny ratling into a corner. As for appearance, think FF9, Vivi as a rat, with a rapier and two bandoleers of alchemical item soaked and spell rune carved wooden stakes under the jacket.

Soooo,
Now that I've read the entire recruitment thread(cuz I am that awesome) I see that this is much like Games of Chance, in that there's always room for one more.
Thinking on a character that combines Darwin and Synch with perhaps some probability altering powers thrown in as well.
Not sure exactly how best to handle this class wise, though the Factotum from Dugeonscape perhaps gestalted with Savant from Dragon Compendium comes to mind as a possibility. No idea though.
Monkeygod |
OK, after much thought and research here's what I got so far:
The concept would be somebody whose always able to get out whatever situation he's thrown into, either through skill, magic, might or sometimes luck and fate(hence the probability altering powers, if I can figure out how to make them work). He's brash and impulsive, knowing that there's not much he can't overcome.
Build wise:
Race would be Doppelganger, classes Factotum 16/some other class 6(maybe Savant, maybe Rogue or Bard)/Chameleon 10.
As this is rules lite, and thinking outside the box is encouraged, etc. I have a few questions and one favor.
Favor: Is there any chance I could have the Factotum class feature Cunning Brilliance even though I am not 19th level?? This is absolutely perfect for my character, more so than it might be normally.
Questions: Are we limiting feats and skills all that much? In other words, could I perhaps take a few more feats than my level would allow?
Also, there's at least one racial feat that I would dearly love to take but its only for Halflings: Well Prepared, though I was thinking of increasing its use to a number of times per day = to Int Mod.
Found this as well which I think could really help:
Anyfeat
You gain one feat which you can change at will.
Prerequisites: Variable
Benefit: You gain a single feat, however, once per round as a free action
you can change this feat to any other. You cannot change the anyfeat while
you have a previous use of the anyfeat in effect.
You must still meet the feat prerequisites of any feat you chose to benefit
from it.
Special: You can gain this feat multiple times and its effects stack.
HOWEVER,
I was thinking of reigning it in its power, if necessary. What I was thinking would be it would take a Full Round Action which provokes AoO to switch, and I only gain the benefits of the new feat for a number of rounds = to my Int Mod.

Ooh, doppelganger. We haven't had one of those since Spin left. Lots of potential for cool there.
first off, this is rules light so don't sweat the details too much. For probability altering...let's see. We've got a reality bender and a guy whose only power is limited wish at will and a champion of luck, although she's more of an enchanter and the luck powers are mostly things like rerolls and bonuses. So obviously we can handle probability altering. I think it would help if I knew a little more of how you think this will work.
I got nothing on the factotum. Where is this class from? Knowing what your class can do might help me be able to answer your question on the powers as well.
As far as skills and feats, well, I usually calculate skills on the fly. If it's something you would have taken ranks in, assume full (in your case sixteen) ranks + if class skill bonus is relevant and if you would have skill focus or something. Just be consistent with it. As far as feats, well, I'm not auditing things that carefully, but I'd rather you not really go nuts with it. I think the Anyfeat really solves that problem for you. I like your plan to limit it, but I think you're good with just making it a full round action to switch it. No need to limit the rounds.

Wow. 389 pages of gameplay to read x_x. Don't know if I can manage that, but if you have ongoing recruitment I'd love to play a character in the vein of wolverine/sabertooth. A feral fighter with high healing factor.
No worries, I don't expect anyone to read the whole thread. It's an entertaining read, but I went back recently for a review and it took me three days to get through the whole thing and I'm a fast reader. Read the campaign info, don't stress about the game thread.
I think that sort of character would be cool and should fit right in. :)

Wonderful. However, would I be allowed to bend the idea of the School being for children? Looking over the campaign setting info, I have an idea, but it could be problematic.
Character Idea:
Cuna (if anyone asks, he'll happily admit it's not his real name, but is less forthcoming about what his real name might be), to put it simply, fell through the cracks in his old world. But he's terribly ungifted at dying or staying dead, so when he found a little crack into a hospitable world, it was that or give up and frankly he's not very fond of giving up. Being fond of dramatic entrances, if allowed he will fall out of nowhere right onto the Academy's front steps.
He appears to be a fairly young man. Tall (he'll alter his height slightly depending on his company if he can get away with it), ghost-pale, with pale green eyes and dark hair. Personality-wise he's enigmatic and melodramatic by habit, and eccentric. He's just passing through, to recover. And get himself back on his feet, so to speak, so a school fits the bill well enough. He's a shapeshifter and sorcerer, though prone to burnout and still battered in more ways than one. He's trying to recover most of the power and knowledge he lost between worlds. Of course that's not all he is/was, though it'll become an open secret soon enough. (However if anyone calls the tall guy with the scars over his lips out on it, he'll point out that being a technically dead figment of your own imagination isn't much, and hey there's vessels of the gods occasionally aren't there? and proceed to try and prove how useless he can be).
Also, he'd laugh if it's suggested he may be more mature than his classmates.
I know this sounds quite Mary Stu-ish, but I've played him before as both an NPC and PC who's evolved into a character separate from his other incarnations, and my fellow players have always quite liked him. I have plenty of other ideas I'd love to try if you don't like this one, though.
And are aliases recquired for characters? I tend to post like I'm writing a book or journal, so I tend to skip on them if allowed (Paizo figuring out how to allow us to delete old aliases would help with this).
Jelani |
Yeah, what do I need to produce to start playing? I have a concept in mind, but am unsure what if any stats I need to put down.
Basically a Champion of predators. He is a shifter (or orc lycanthrope if allowed) who fights with claws and teeth and is extremely hard to kill. Class-wise I'm thinking gestalt of invulnerable rager/beastmorph. Think Beast has a baby with Sabertooth, then DnD it up a little.
Jelani |
From looking at the gameplay thread briefly (very briefly) it looks like there are people running around with like 30 class levels out there...are those NPCs or PCs?
If I could stat out to my heart's content he would be a Orc Cat Lord (good suggestion Dragonborn) Gestalt Invulnerable Rager 20/Beastmorph Vivisectionist 20. More than that would probably be overkill, even for my munchkiny self.

Alright, after reading the factotum class I see that it really works well with the concept. Yeah, I'm okay with you having Cunning Brilliance early. As for the probability thing, I'm thinking a number of re-rolls per day might be all that's really needed to reflect that. Between that and Anyfeat, I think that should bring the concept into play quite well.

This is rules light, so I'm not expecting everyone to have a finished character sheet. Some folks do. That's fine. What I need to see/what you'll need to use is attack bonus, AC, CMB/CMD, have some basic idea of skills - it's fine to calculate them on the fly, just be prepared to do so, hit points, and ability scores. Ability scores are assigned by 'rule of cool' but don't go too nuts. Equipment: you can have one or two items that are important to your concept, and as much mundane equipment as you like (though fellow students will think you're weird for lugging it around). Crafting spaces and supplies are provided and extra equipment is sometimes allowed/provided for special school events. Also, no ninth level spells. This is why the level cap is where it is. If a ninth level spell is essential to your concept, we can work out a 1/day use for it. However, no wish or miracle. Period. These are much more powerful than normal in this game world so not so much on the everyday use. I think that covers everything. But I'll probably get asked another question soon to prove me wrong. ;P

Yucale, sorry for not answering your question earlier. I've actually been having difficulty getting on the site. A character who is older than an adolescent would normally be a teacher rather than a student, but I suppose we could make an exception. Though it would certainly look ridiculous. :)
Aliases are required. While there's nothing wrong with narrating, there's also a lot of interaction and dialogue that becomes difficult to deal with without them.
All that aside, I'm not sure I quite get your character concept. If you don't want to post the details where all can read, send me a PM. I can't really tell you right now if it's okay since I don't really understand what he is.
Monkeygod, yes Chameleon is approved. I understand the need to get an idea of what a character can do. Some characters are too complicated to easily just wing it. :)
Yeah, I can see Ghalen going for Justice.
DB3, okay I'm afraid. I can practically hear the evil laughter from that post. ;P
Basic info on Champions can be found in the campaign info. Not everyone is one and honestly they're not the most powerful beings ever or even among the students. They have the potential to become so, but there was a bit of a purge thanks to the former Champion of Madness so right now all the Champions are young and still learning their powers. Which is why so many of them end up at Avalon. Patrons embody an idea more than anything else. They are proto-gods and the deities get their power from the patrons. But the deities love power and tend to throw the universe out of whack, hence Champions are needed to keep things in line. Mercy and Truth are potential ideas that don't currently have a champion attached to them.

humm humm, I decided upon a Clever Godling/White-Haired Witch built if that is okay, I love those flexible godling classes :)
The girl will be young, 10-12 years old, with a pretty face, tsundere personality, snow white hair, and a mean scythe
so, I am still unsure about char creation, what level do we make the characters at? how are the attributes decided again?
