Unfazed, Ilya tears apart the last ghost.

Combat over

With the demise of the last Allip, the level is clear of anything immediately threatening (counting out the Basilisk, that is). The pit in the room with the large skeleton is the upper terminus of an impressive feat of Azlanti magic—a narrow stone shaft almost half a mile deep. The Azlanti words for 'up' and 'down' are scribbled near it, and seem to operate the platform that hovers over the shaft.

Here's the descent to the next level. Please roll your day jobs, and I'll report another level as complete!

Ilya begins carrying Vayu and the other stone people out of the dungeon, to someone who can restore them to flesh.

Later on:
That evening Ilya heads to the dojo she built on her land in the River Kingdoms, and teaches the students she's gathered about the various combat styles she's adept in.

"When faced with an enemy far away, assume the way of the dragon and leap forward, delivering a single but powerful attack. When faced with an enemy in front of you, become a bastion of stone while channeling the dragon's rage into your flurry of blows. Watch me demonstrate this, and practice."

After a day or two of the party leaving Vayu standing next to their table in the bar, using him to hold their drinks and hats... they finally find the cheapest source of Stone to Flesh.

When the spell is cast the entire bar goes silent as everyone waits to see if Vayu survives the ordeal.

Fortitude w/cloak of protection since scenario is still in play: 1d20 + 8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 8 + 3 = 14

And Vayu crumples to the floor dead...

While petrified, Vayu is unconscious. He can't take the mental action to get a 20 from the helmet. Stone to Flesh doesn't specify when he regains consciousness, either. Personally I'd say the helmet wouldn't help, but it's the GM's call.

Went ahead and updated Kellan to level 11 while I had the time. She gains two feats, Improved Critical (scimitar) and Knowledgeable Spellcaster (planes) as her most exciting updates this level.

I still think I'll go cash for the failed flesh to stone, then prestige for the rest. Save all of our cash to buy magic trinkets. Vayu is flush in prestige, so for party power I think that would be best at this point.

Saving as much gold as possible by spending as much prestige as possible is probably the best thing to do. Gold can be used for so much more than prestige.

Another visit to the temple, where the clerk greets Swayaah with a friendly Ah, I see you're using your new opportunity well. How is our group of most faithful customers doing these days?

When she sees the body of Vayu, she answers, Oh... I'll bring out the forms then. Can I perhaps interest you in our special resurrection plan? You get a free pluche tiger on the tenth resurrection!

Some extensive paperwork later - the clerk apologizes for the 'new regulations in the fortress' and something about an 'audit trail', the body of Vayu is scooped up and taken to the main shrine.

...you see, there's an upside to everything. He won't be having any trouble with kidney or gall stones anytime soon. Vayu wakes up to the sound of clerics making small talk.

Returning to the emerald spire, the long descent gives ample opportunity to think about the horrors that may lie below. The name Nhur Athemon has been a bad omen in the Garden level, and there is still no sign of the missing Wizard Tiawask...

Once activated, the elevator disk comes to rest at the bottom of the shaft after an incredibly long descent. Here, wide stairs descend to a broad foyer. Two huge stone double doors loom at the far end of the room—an ancient inscription is chiseled into them. Arches to the east and west reveal side halls flanking the one leading to the doors. A red light flickers in the darkness beyond the western arch.

Take your time to get ready - I've put up the new level.

As she waits for an answer Ilya takes her wand of mage armor and taps herself with it, creating a field of force that surrounds, and will hopefully help protect, her body.

"I've had the enhancement on my cloak improved, by the way. It's now as resistant as can be."

Swayaah looks about the town, watching everyone's habits. She's glad most of the petrified victims seem to be alright. Some of them are retired adventures, or they were captured slaves sold to a sadistic master who turned them to stone for fun. Most of them aren't malicious, and she's quick to tell the nastier people to skip out of town, this is her domain. Stay out!

Back in the spire, Swayaah pets Ilvan and sighs. "Well, this is it. Let's get searching." Ilvan hoots as Swayaah gets low to the ground and starts looking for danger.

The hallway has two side hall.

At the end of the northernmost short hall stands a carving of an armored Azlanti woman. Her left hand holds a thin, curved longsword aloft. Her right hand has a star-shaped depression at the center of the open palm. A star-shaped crystal embedded in the depression emits erratic flickers of brilliant red light. The corpse of a human woman in mustard-colored robes lies near the statue.

At the end of the southernmost hall stands a statue of an ancient Azlanti warrior, her hands positioned as if casting a spell. Her left hand is held palm out, revealing an empty, star-shaped depression.

Does anyone speak Azlanti? Otherwise, make a Linguistics checks for the inscriptions. You can also make a K(History) check for the statues

The inscription is really too strange for Swayaah. It's clear that it's Azlanti, but the grammar is very abstract and formal. She doesn't really get any meaning from it, other than the word 'star'.

There's 16 levels - at a month per level that would take a year and a half to complete! It seems unrealistic a complete group can stick around for that long.

That being said, I do intend to run multiple levels if the group is interested (recruiting replacements where needed). I would recommend bringing fresh characters.

The first level of the emerald spire is Tier 1-2, so the archaeologist/ranger (is that you, Renly?) would be too high of a level.

This is PFS, you can change your character freely until you play him as level 2. So I'm sure Kludde won't have any problem with that.

Level'd up (well, built as a Kineticist) and I think I just had the biggest swing in HP from level 1 to level 2.

I am torn...staying a swashbuckler, or switching to a occult playtest?

I have my eyes on either a medium or mesmerist

advice would be helpful :)

I'm testing both, though my mesmerist is far from optimal (a goblin in We Be Goblins, LOL). I would love to see how an optimized mesmerist fares, but in either case, it'll be very interesting. My medium is focused on The Beater and can deal out some serious unarmed damage. I would also change to a playtest character, but if I rebuild now, I'll have to drop my tiefling race, and she is my only one! :)

No, I thought if you rebuild you could keep race, and simply change out the class. Unless you are changing for flavor reasons.

You can keep the race, lest you are losing it for mechanical reasons.

Ah, I thought since tiefling was no longer freely available, if I rebuilt her, I would lose the race. Let me check on that quick on the VL forums, and then I might rebuild her if I'm allowed.

Looks like we'll have a lot of playtest characters. The playtest closes pretty soon actually, so we'll need to cover good ground in this dungeon for me to be able to hand out that playtest chronicle (for me, I'm fine with it as long as we cover enough for the 2/3rd rule to hold - which is entirely doable). Wouldn't want to put the game on hold until June, would we?

And by the way, I'll run this level as part of the PbP game day.

If we can stall for about 12 hours before starting level 2, I can get either a gm credit or a chronicle (Today's my PFS group) and my character will be legal to play :D

Better get a chronicle. GM credit doesn't count for the playtest. I would've been in good business if it was ;-)

I want Ilya to stay a monk, but I'd also like to to try a playtest class. It doesn't go together >.<

Guess I'll have to be patient, and wait till the classes are officially released :)
