What the...? No idea what that is...
Ilya informs the others of what she hears, and opens the door. She has an attack with her temple sword readied against anything that may attack her.
Readied attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13 Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
DM Kludde |
Ilya opens the door into a curved room, which seems to be a good sized kitchen, complete with decaying tables. One tables has what seems to be a child's laboratory set up, with vials and some broken beakers. There's a goblin there, tinkering with a large green automaton, that has an arm and a leg replaced by a human arm an a piece of wood. Upon seeing the adventurers, the goblin screams

Ugh, that is just wrong on so many levels, is the only thing that goes through her mind when she sees the half robot half human thing on the way table. She steps up, past her companions and takes a stab at the thing being tinkered with.

Kellan moves to flank with Zen'yr, but attacks the goblin instead of the construct, knowing her attack with a rapier will probably be ineffective against it. She uses a Swift action to charge her rapier with arcane power.

Zen'yr moves well before the automaton shifts into motion, and hits a diode in the automaton, sending sparks flying. Kellan manages to get to the other flank of the automaton, and hits the little screaming goblin with her rapier, while Redke sends orbs of energy slamming into the automaton, creating more sparks and smoke.

Zen'yr stabs the robot, whose crackling becomes almost deafening - as deafening as the shot form Vayu that strike the wall, sending shards of green glass flying.

"Do we have healing?!" Ilya asks with a slight hint of panic in her voice.
Redke Orefall |
"I've got a..." Redke clears his throat and continues " ... ahem... way of healing thats ... frowned upon by some." Redke nervously looks around before asking, "Nobody's a Paladin... right?"
Depending on how long the goblin lasts, Redke's gonna use quick study to replace Mage Armor with Infernal Healing, then first help Kellen, then help Ilya
Edit: Otherwise I have a +6 to umd :D
Ilya Akyll |
Ilya frowns at Redke. "And what may that kind of healing be...?"
Ilya doesn't have a problem with infernal healing. She by the way has +4 UMD. So if Redke ever goes down, she'll hopefully be able to help ;)
I always give my characters a healing wand asap. So I'm going to purchase one directly after this level!
Redke Orefall |
Redke looks sheepish for a second before puffing out his chest, "Since we are after all in an area owned by the mighty Chelaxian Empire, I use devil blood (freely given and fair trade, of course) to heal friends."
"The downside is... well... you," Redke gestures in the air making quotations marks, "you kinda have an evil aura while the spell is in effect. Paladins, some Inquisitors and some ... clerics ... don't approve."
FYI: I'll be outta 1st level spells unless we spend 8 hours resting
DM Kludde |
Ilya swing her temple sword, and it through the heart of the goblin.
Combat over
The room is now a mess of broken shards and automaton parts. The goblin has a wand on her, and a masterwork falchion.
Redke Orefall |
Redke pulls out his spellbook, consults for it a few seconds, then rushes over to Kellen, draws a pentagram on her out of devil's blood, and mutters a few words silently, before a brief flash of light illuminates the pentagram
Infernal healing on Kellen, after 1 minutes you'll be at either +6 hp (if you stabilized) or +5 hp (if you don't)
After finishing on Kellen, Redke walks over to Ilya, says "This'll only hurt for a moment." Before doing the same thing he did to Kellen to Ilya.
Fast Healing 1 for you too! Ilya will be up at full HP
After surveying his work, Redke puffs out his chest and says "There. Any more questions as to how magic is best?" Then a disconcerted look flashes over his face, and Redke turns visibly pale before he stammers out his next words. "We.. We.. We can rest now right?"
Out of spells :( So I'm either a terribad archer or we rest :P
DM Kludde |
Just tell me where you want to rest. There's complete settlement, including fort, a couple of hours marching away. Alternatively you can rest here, or in the nearby woods.
Kellan Demonbane |
Fortitude: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11 vs. DC 13

Brayden Baxon |
Having been engrossed in a conversation with his attendant, Brayden looks up and sees the end of the combat, "Oh, I say, was there a skirmish of sorts? I am sorry, my attendant and I were discussing the intricate architecture. I trust everyone fairs well enough?" Stepping into the room, he looks down at the wand on the goblin. Picking it up, he examines it casually.
spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

Zen'yr |
Well, who else thought that monstrosity was disgusting on multiple levels? Where do you suppose we rest? We could go back to town, it still is fairly close by?
Have we checked out the room that has the bed in it?
Ilya Akyll |
"Thanks, Redke. You're quite cute when healing people, by the way." Ilya grins at Redke, hoping to see another fun reaction from the Chelaxian.
Ilya then turns to address Zen'yr. "I also did think so. Which is why I think we shouldn't rest inside this place. Let's leave, and rest at the fort."
@Zen'yr: When I checked it out I found nothing.
DM Kludde |
Th party leave the blood-stained, automaton-part-strewn room, heads for the tunnel exit and sets course for fort inevitable.
I've put up a map of the fort
Arriving at the gate (42), a couple of burly hellknight guards watch over the entrance, and although they look menacing, they cause no trouble. The nearest tavern is the Red shield tavern (14) on Juliver way, at the end of a long row of shops and stalls.
The propetor is Embra Morsk, who greets the adventurers and says Looking for a place to stay after a rough travel, I see. Let me give you a word of advice, though, looking like that. I've yer looking for the riches of the Echo woods, make sure you have a letter of warrant. The Hellknights do not recognize the right of any self-declared adventurer to kill “villains” and seize their belongings, they regard that as common banditry. So unless you want to end up in the stockade...
Ilya Akyll |
Diplomacy: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (19) - 1 = 18 Hurray for people skills! :D
"Do you know how we may obtain such a letter?" Ilya asks the proprietor politely. "It could prove to be a useful item, in case we happen to run into said villains."
"How much does staying a night cost us?"
Redke Orefall |
Looks like I missed some stuff while at work :P
Identify Wand: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Redke stops glaring at Ilya, having started before leaving the Emerald Spire and keeping up the frosty look since someone mentioned being "cute."
"Excuse me, Good Sir," Redke barges into the conversation, "Since there are Hellknights around, is there a Temple to the Gods around? Also, we passed some vendors, are there ones you would recommend better than the others?"
Diplomacy to Gather Intel: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Depending on the spellcraft check (to identify the wand) is it possible to take the wand, sell it, and use the proceeds to buy Scrolls of Infernal Healing? (looks like the Arcanist is the party healer, woo!) If so, I'll buy as many as I can get, if not I'll buy one, using gold on hand.
DM Kludde |
Redke manages to identify the wand as a wand of cure light wounds (20 charges left).
Not sure if you want to sell that one ;-)
You can apply for it at the Lord Commander. It'll probably set you back 50 crowns, and it probably involves handing over some proceeds.
The temple of the Golden Key, dedicated to Abadar, god of law and commerce, is near Juliver gate (It's number 33)
For potions and reagents, go to Sefurd (#24). I can recommend some other vendors, depending on what you're looking for.
Stay for the night? Two silvers for the lot of you.
Redke Orefall |
Redke digs a single gold piece out of his bags, lays it down in front of the Innkeeper, and says "I expect a good meal and good drinks for my companions as well." Before hurrying out the door to commence his business.
DM Kludde |
You'll need a DC 20 (not 21) check to activate the wand. BB has a +7, so needs to roll 13 or higher (Use Magic Device, 40% chance) to activate right away, and has a 5% chance of not being able to use the wand the next 24 hours.
The wand has 20 charges, so sells for 150 gp (=20/50*750/2), which is the equivalent of 6 infernal healing scrolls.
Total hit points healed for infernal healing: 60
Total hit points (expectation value) for CLW wand: 110
Total time needed to heal at least 10 hp (infernal healing): 10 rounds
Total time needed to heal ~10 hp (CLW): about four rounds (but with a chance of 9.5% of it taking more than 24 hrs)
Your call.
Hooray statistics...
Brayden Baxon |
DM Kludde |
The innkeeper smiles and says You've got a room, and I'll make sure you and your friends get something proper to eat. Any further directions you might need?
Ilya Akyll |
Against selling the wand either way.
"I think we're fine, but thanks Embra."
"Let's eat first, guys?" Ilyya asks her comrades. "I suggest resting directly afterward, and getting the letter of warrant first thing in the morning."
Ilya doesn't waits for the others, and gives Embra her food order. "I'd like some beef stew. Do you have apple juice? I'd like that too."
Redke Orefall |
"None right now, but I may have use of your services in the future... call this a 'retainers' fee." Redke says as he plunks down another piece of gold by the innkeeper. "You will let us know if anything ... important happens, correct?"
Looking at his teammates, Redke says "I have some shopping to do, I shall return soon."
Looks like we'll keep the wand, but I'd still like to go into town to buy a scroll of infernal healing to keep handy (15 gp left) :D
Also, since we'll be resting soon, I'm gonna change my prepared spells, Detect Magic, Light, Ray of Frost, and Read Magic for cantrips; Infernal Healing and Magic Missile for 1st Level spells
Kellan Demonbane |
Sorry I was gone for a while, had a convention last night and today. Getting caught up now.
Kellan thanks Brayden for the healing, and then follows the rest to the inn.
DM Kludde |
Excellent choices. Wise too, to stay clear of the alcoholics. The patrol don't take kindly to drunken debauchery.
After a good meal and a good rest, and in the case of Redke, a good shopping spree, a new day dawns.
At the citadel, castellan Karn Kerromick is the man on duty in the little stronghold teeming with hellknights of the order of the pike. State your business. he curtly says.
Redke Orefall |
"Good Sir," Redke starts off with a bow then continues "We have been sent from many corners of Golarion to find a few wizards who ... wandered off in the Echo Woods, and we heard that there were fellow believers in the rule of law, and we wished to pay our respects."
Redke waves his hand over the group assembled as he continues "As you can see, we have many different backgrounds, and not all are as civilized as others." Redke's hand stops at the Tiefling for a second before continuing on, "I, myself, come from the Menandor Mountains, and was glad to see that civilization has made it out here. Since some of the members of our group are from regions where the law isn't so important, we heard that a warrant is needed to be sure we stay on the right side of the law, and we wish to see the Lady Commander about it."
diplomacy: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
any bonuses for being chelaxian & dealing with hellknights? Also, any bonuses for slighting the Tiefling once again? :D
Ilya Akyll |
Diplomacy, aid Redke: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (15) - 1 = 14
"Hello, sir. My name's Ilya Akyll, and I was born and raised in the mountains of Taldor. Like my friend told you, not all of us are familiar with the ways of local civilization. We'd very much like to make sure we follow your laws."
"His name is Redke, by the way," Ilya says as she points at Redke. "Don't blame him for not telling you, he gets nervous around men of power."
Ilya gives Redke a quick wink, then does her best to control her laughter.
Kellan Demonbane |
Kellan's expression hardens at Redke's continued slights against her parentage, but she maintains herself, staying silent for now.
DM Kludde |
Adventurer's warrant, standard issue? The castellan just bends Redke's words into something he know to apply. Application fee is fifty crowns, allowing the carrier and a selected, pre-defined group of individuals to carry out tasks in the name of the law of their own choosing, such act including exploration, mitigation of causes of banditry, extermination of local pests at the request of the owner of an establishment or private residence, exploration of archaeological sites and reduction of non-registered inhabitants of aforementioned sites. Carriers understand to be subject to a taxation of three out of ten on the proceeds of such actions. Warrant to be valid three full moons, effective immediately, void where applied to non-lawful causes. Provider of warrant will not be held accountable for any personal harm. Do you agree to the terms and conditions?
Ilya Akyll |
"I only have 7 gold and 8 silver," Ilya informs her comrades.
"I'm willing to part with that, but I won't be able to contribute any more to the 50 gold we need..."
For which I apologize... :S
Zen'yr |
Zen'yr grabs 50 coins from her pouch and hands it over to the man. Keep your coin girl, I got this. Here ya go, boss
DM Kludde |
The castellan promptly underwrites the warrant, and hands it to Zen'yr with a cold Will that be all?
Kellan Demonbane |
"Have there been any reports on what types of creatures we should expect to encounter in the spire?"
