Zen'yr |
Zen’yr will cast detect magic and scan the room to see if anything “pings” as magic.
Ketill |
How annoying! I can make an extract of comprehend languages, if I had a spellslot open....
Ketill shows his new wayfinder, "I have bought this to also be able to detect magic Zen'yr. That way we can both check."
Ilya Akyll |
"I kind of guess we have to find the other star and place it in the other statue's hand?" Ilya thinks out loud.
Ketill |
I just woke up! I have tongues active... Edit: and back to sleep, tongues only works on spoken languages
"Let's get to it then"
Ilya Akyll |
I found written that "The Azlanti people spoke a language also known as Azlanti or Ancient Azlanti. Even though it hasn't been actively spoken for millennia, its linguistic legacy is carried on in such languages as Taldane, Polyglot, Hallit, and Varisian."
If this means Azlanti uses the same alphabet as Taldane (= Common), then maybe we could try to pronounce the words. We may not pronounce everything correctly (real life linguists still don't all agree about some Latin letters' pronunciation), but what we do happen to pronounce correctly could be understood by Ketill.
GM, would you allow this, if the alphabets happen to be the same? (I can't find this anywhere.) Maybe we could then add some rolls to see how much we pronounce correctly?

I think what you're describing is exactly what the linguistics skill is all about.
There's something to be made of the inscription at the entrance:
Under position... disaster... there's that Nhur Athemon sign again. Disturbed... evil...
The inscription near the northern statue: Sacrifice... Blue... Star
The one near the southern statue: Eternal... Seal.. Evil...
There's still that history check to attempt
Zen'yr |
history: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Kludde |
Zen'yr can't quite recall what the statues represent. An ancient, obscure knighthood of sorts.
Kellan Demonbane |
"Glad we have you to translate things, Zen'yr. I've never had the patience to learn any extra languages, myself..."
Ketill |
History: 1d20 + 8 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 8 + 4 = 30
Kludde |
Kellan digs up an impressive piece of ancient history: these statues represent the Knight order of the Ioun stone, a knight order all but lost in obscurity. All that is known of this order nowadays, is that they were closely associated with the Azlanti Emperor.
These statues don't seem to come to life just yet.
Swayaah Maelerant |
"Well, while you guys translate, I'll look to see if there's a star-shaped stone around here..."
Perception, Heroism: 1d20 + 15 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 15 + 2 = 22

Kludde |
There certainly is, the western statue (Up is west, I had that wrong before) holds a star-shaped stone in an identically shaped depression.
The body in front of that statue is starting to smell a bit.
Swayaah Maelerant |
"Okay then... So what do we need to do with this? Maybe move it to the other statue? I volunteer myself to grab the stone and put it in the other statue. Ready when you guys are."
Ilya Akyll |
Ilya shrugs. "Ready. I guess."
Kludde |
Swayaah place the star-shaped pebble in the hands of the eastern statue, leaving the first statue empty-handed.
Here's a hint: just have a look over your Emerald Spire Dungeon chronicle sheets
Zen'yr |
They are ACTUALLY making us spend $4K on a “western star shaped ioun stone” to proceed. Hmm, I just hope I get the sucker back after this lol
Zen’yr thinks back, to the floor a few above her. She remembers seeing a beautfoul blue stands me in there, shaped like a star. The Hellknights at the keep took possession of it, and gave her a small “finder’s fee”. She wondered if that would work.
If I am incorrect please tell me as I would never actually purchase it since I would never actually use it
Guys, I have an idea, hang tight. I need to make a trip topside. She comes back about 30 minutes later and hands Sway the new acquired ioun stone.
Kellan Demonbane |
Ha! I actually find that kind of hilarious. And we can't split the cost since it's a character buying it from a chronicle sheet. LOL
Kellan looks at the pretty stone that Zen'yr brings back. "Where'd you get that?"
Swayaah Maelerant |
"Oooh, shiny." Swayaah looks at the stone. "Thank you for your sacrifice, Zen'yr." Swayaah grins and puts the star in the other statue.
Vayu |
Further... in a typical PFS where not everyone is playing together each scenario... we may have ALL blew our money on one!
"With all this dying, and stone buying... we'll need to ask for raises to our Pathfinder stipend..."
Ilya Akyll |
There would've been better ways for the PFS designers to solve that issue... :/
Before Zen'yr leaves to purchase the star-shaped stone, Ilya figures she should try to kick the door open.
Strength, take 20 (Heroism): 20 + 4 + 2 = 26
If that doesn't work, Ilya will assume a fighting stance and punch the door to see if she can break it down.
Single Punch; Damage (x2 Str) +1d6 Poison: 2d6 + 9 + 1d6 ⇒ (4, 6) + 9 + (4) = 23
If that proves successful, Ilya will punch the door till it gives. If it doesn't prove successful, Ilya switches to the wall adjacent to the door and punches the area surrounding the hinges till it crumbles and the door's no longer attached to the frame. Or, if that doesn't work either, Ilya will try to create an entirely new opening to the side of the door.
I cannot bypass the hardness of any material, but I have magic fists, great strength, plenty of time, and punching walls is part of the monk training regimen. Even if everything else fails, I think/hope at least creating a man-sized hole in the wall should be possible with some patience.
Kludde |
I suppose, if you can get the ioun stone back again, you can sell it back. I find it more important that you solve the puzzle than that you pay the 'adventure tax'. Also, Vayu, what is this weird wiggly sign you use for gold pieces?
Zen'yr places the star-shaped stone - having kept it ever since her encounter with Klarkosh - in to the depression in the western knight's statue.
A line of brilliant energy traces the seam between the double doors in the main hall. This light blazes brightly across the protective inscription, and then completely fades from view. The doors to the next room can now be opened with ease.
The doors open to reveal a huge room. Two ramps against the east and west walls lead to a ledge that runs along the north side. Two enormous statues of a wizard with a bristling beard loom from floor to ceiling in the southeast and southwest corners.
A third statue made of metal stands in the middle of the room. The eyes of this last statue are large spheres of polished quartz, the size of a human head. When the party enters, its head swivels down to glare at the open door and speaks Who dares intrude in the demesne of Nhur Athemon? Begone!
Four mindless humans bow and scrape in front of the statue, with terrible visages: their mouths and eyes are sewn shut.
Ketill |
"I'll come with you Zen'yr! I remembered I need to buy a wand of comprehend languages!"

When the doors open Ketill tries to remember what this statue could be

"We are members of the pathfinder Society and here to explore these dungeons. We intend to map then and document our findings. Would you be kind enough to allow us inside?"
Kellan Demonbane |
"This does not look like a friendly place."
If there is any indication of demonic symbols or creatures, Kellan will go straight for them to try to destroy them.
Swayaah Maelerant |
Swayaah snorts and laughs. "We're looking for a wizard, but something tells me we found trouble." Swayaah bares her claws. "Man, do I like trouble..."

Zen'yr |
Zen’yr will pull out a scroll of haste and cast it on her party members.

Ilya Akyll |
Ilya charges straight past Kellan and Ketill, her fist crackling with electricity. As she ends her charge in from of the statue, Ilya throws her punch.

Casting Greater Forbid Action, Will Save DC 21
Mesmerist stare, -3 will saves & -3 damage rolls
Psychic Inception: The hypnotic stare and its penalty can affect creatures that are mindless or immune to mindaffecting effects (such as an undead or vermin). The mesmerist can also partially affect such a creature with his mind-affecting spells and abilities if it’s under his hypnotic stare; it gains a +2 bonus on its saving throw (if any), and if affected it still has a 50% chance each round of ignoring the effect. Ignoring the effect doesn’t end the effect, but allows the creature to act normally for that round.

Kludde |
Ketill recognises the creature for a clockworm leviathan, a huge construct made out of gears and cogs, with a belly of superheated steam to power it. Its immune to fire, but very vulnerable to electricity.
Swayaah deals a - literally - ringing blow.
Will: 1d20 + 5 - 3 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 5 - 3 + 2 = 10
Ignore, high is good (for the construct): 1d100 ⇒ 48 I assume you're forbidding the creature to attack?
Ketill then moves to chill down the huge guardian, throwing several bombs and covering the construct in rime. Kellan finally brings down the creature with a well-aimed jolt of electricity.
Ilya emerge from the mouth a little worse for wear, her hair spiking upright.

Zen'yr |
Zen’yr will grab her new wand of Infernal healing and tap Ilya with it. She than grabs her wand of cure light wounds and starts using charges until Ilya is all patched up.

Ilya wobbles on her feet, her hair spiking upright and her eyes blinking.
"One moment nothing's able to touch you, and then something just picks you up and eats you," she mutters perplexed. "That sure was humbling..."
"Thanks, Zen'yr," Ilya says after she's patched up by Zen'yr. She then starts fixing her spiked hair.
Once her hair's okay, Ilya searches the construct's remains to see if it maybe ate something useful in the past that survived its steam-powered belly.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
@Zen'yr: Thanks for the healing! I didn't need the last 3 charges.
Swayaah Maelerant |
"Well, I'm glad you're not an Ilya Sandwich" Swayaah lets the rage burn out of her. "Where to, next?"
Vayu |
Vayu, who was previously leaning against the wall while the others annihilated another baddy, comes forward and also searches the area.
Perception: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (6) + 16 = 22
Ketill |
"First opportunity to the left?" Ketill answers Swayaah
Ketill |
"Very funny cousin!"
Kludde |
Vayu looks around the room. The first things he notices is a grinding sound in the dead creature, what looks to be a clockwork heart inside the gear-filled chest of the leviathan. The eyes also seem to be special, detachable in some way.
He also finds two secret entryways behind the side statues.
Swayaah Maelerant |
"Left it is!" Swayaah checks behind the left statue and its secret passage.

"Wait a moment" Ketill takes out his wayfinder and detects magic, trying to detach the eyes and possibly also the heart.
