[PFS] Retrocon+ - Occassional Demons (way early multi-scenario recruiting+Siege of Diamond City special)

Recruitment

1 person marked this as a favorite.

OK... so this is far earlier than I'd planned to do this... but with the announcement of RetroCon in mid January, they've forced my hand!

So... as some are, but most probably not, aware, I've made an effort each of the past 3 years to run a series of PFS scenarios back to back, with the same group of PC's... in an attempt to make it feel like a small little mini-campaign of sorts. I've tried to make the scenarios all linked geographically and as thematically as possible. It has worked fairly well. The first was in and around Irrisen, then we went to the Mwangi Expanse, and currently I have one going in Taldor (set to end early(ish) in the new year)

I had an idea to try doing one in the Worldwound area, and had this idea to start with the Siege of the Diamond City special and then explore the fallout from that... And, it turns out, that special is being offered at RetroCon! So if I want to catch that boat, I need to start recruiting a bit early.

This will be a little different than my prior runs, which tended to go lower level, to encourage new players, and focus more on the story than power levels. But there really aren't enough scenarios in the low tiers in the area for me to go that way this time. So I'll be starting a little further in (though not terribly)

So, what I am looking for are 6 dedicated players, looking to play and RP with a static group and able and willing to run through the following 6 scenarios, all from season five!

  • 5.00 Siege of the Diamond City special (in the 3-4 tier) (multi-table special during RetroCon)
  • 5.22 Scars of the Third Crusade
  • 5.02 The Wardstone Patrol
  • 5.09 The Traitor's Lodge
  • 5.13 Weapon in the Rift
  • 5.24 Vengeance at Sundered Crag

Unfortunately, that doesn't leave me with a lot of wiggle room on level ranges. In order for this to work, the PC must have a minimum of 8 xp, and no more than 11 xp
(So basically, level 4... or one xp short of it).

But since we are two and a half months out, that gives folks a little time to work their way in range, if short.

No pregens.
And though I am ok with folks using replays, they will have lower priority than those playing for the first time.

This is not first come first serve, or lottery, or the like. Due to the longer duration, and the fact everyone has to put up with each other for it, I will be selecting the PC's I think will work best (with preferences to newer players, ones I haven't GM'd for before, and lively posters!)

Anyway, if you think this is something you might be interested in, and can have (and keep) a PC in the narrow range required until mid January (when we are expected to start), let me know!

Silver Crusade

1 person marked this as a favorite.

It is unusual for a long running campaign like this to be included as part of a multi-table special, so I thought I should come in and clarify how a few rules apply here.

Those who are part of this campaign may play another character in one of the other specials of Retrocon, but may not play at another table of Siege of the Diamond City.

Have fun, everyone, EM's long campaigns are amazing!

Wait, what?
Didn't expect a rule variation there. Though I suppose it does open up the field a bit, so can't complain! =)

Silver Crusade

There will be other situations in which a second table per player is allowed announced later, probably before your table makes its way onto the spreadsheet. :)

I'll have three characters that could be available:

Monk 3
Brawler 3
Wizard 3

All have (or will have by then) 8 XP. Count me interested.

Well, hello! Meloriel/Midge here!

I'll be applying with Danicka Raburnus, a shy but gifted wizard who dreams of being a hero like her deceased mother was. If only she could find the courage to tell the Venture-Captain that she applied to be a Pathfinder, not a maid... (Why did her mother's bonded object have to be a broom..?). But tomorrow's going to be different! Tomorrow she's going to be brave! All she needs is a chance...

Danicka's a druid/wizard multi-class character with a pure heart and the unfortunate habit of having bloodthirsty, shifty companions... In the year since she's been a Pathfinder, Danicka has done some crazy things and suffered through both great sadness and disappointment -- usually tied to her inability to keep her companions from mercilessly killing their enemies -- and some true acts of heroism! She's a member of the Silver Crusade and is just a blast to play. Currently level three, she'll be level four by the time you start. As I already mentioned to you, I have played Scenario 5-22: Scars of the Third Crusade already.

She's an awkward, clumsy, meek, shy, stammering, little thing who fights for what's right despite the circumstances and her fear. She has a habit of becoming the moral compass of the groups she's been in, and tends to change those around her for the better -- often without even realizing it.

Partway through her career while on a mission Danicka befriended a horribly vicious katapeshi hunting hound, which became her animal companion. Even months down the road she's still terrified of the thing. Prickles listens only to his 'pet' Danicka, and only when he feels like it. He's got the bodyguard archetype and combat reflexes, so he's typically on 'defend' and only gets into the fight once his pet's been harmed.

! <3 Prickles.

Silver Crusade

Am not applying, but have a level 9 'soldier' who has an obsession with killing demons. He would gladly accept marching orders into the wound itself so long as he's armed to the teeth. If you've got someone missing for a scenario and he's in range, he needs no reason to be present other than promise of demonslaying.

I have a few characters that might be able to go if you need, in a few level ranges, but nothing higher than 4th,

Liberty's Edge

I have Yaiho here. An Unchained Barbarian. When his current adventure is over with, he will have 8 XP.

Should also be noted that, Danicka/Prickles from above are already well acquitted with Yaiho. They have been on 6 or was it 7 Chronicles together. :P

The Exchange

I would love to apply with Almaas!

Almaas is a young Dwarf from an Osiriani merchant family that always felt that community, tradition and fairness are the values that should be inherently present in any civilisation.

Thus, he embraces the lessons of Erastil and tries to use his family fortune to bring prosperity through fair trade.

He can be a stoic negotiator but has an empathic approach. He is very perceptive and understands people's motives which is very important to him as a merchant and a pillar of his community.

He typically wears no armor and during battle usually tries to use his bow to attack but also uses his legs and fists if necessary.

Almaas has two elder brothers, Sadaf and Toral.

* * *

"I see that a lot of martial and magical prowess has gathered here! I want you all to know that I see us as a team ... and a team is a small community for which I will give my live blood to protect. It is an honor to explore at your side! May our joint cooperation lead us to discoveries that we report for the glory of the Pathfinder Society!" Almaas says in a calm voice.

Silver Crusade

I'm super keen but would need to use a GM replay on Wardstone Patrol. I've not played any of the others before.

I have the following available:

An Aerokineticist with 10 xp
A melee Occultist with 11 xp
A support Oracle with 8 xp
An archer Inquisitor with 10xp

Second Seekers (Roheas)

I would need to use all 5 of my 2019 GM Stars to do this and I am STILL considering it that's how great of an opportunity this is!

Alas it would be better for someone who was having their first exposure with this material in my place so I am just here to endorse the GM.

Silver Crusade

I haven't played or GM'd any of these before. My 3rd lv. Character that fits the criteria (he'd have 8pp points by the start of play) is a fighter 1, swashbuckler 1, Cleric 1...... I love role-playing this guy and he's been an exclusive PBP character. I named him (and modeled his classes after a supporting character in "the wheel of time" series. Therefore, he's a bit sanctimonious and overtly ambitious. Unlike his counterpoint (that he's named for)...he's not a complete as* and does help his companions when needed but, always has plenty to say about a given situation or mission.

Anyway presented for consideration...

Fist bump!

Danicka would love to hang out with her terrifying friend again! Haha.

Should be noted I have not played/GM any of the listed Chronicles. So no need to use any Replay Boons I have.

Also popping in to offer my endorsement! I played in EM+GM's first six-parter and had a blast so anyone selected here will be in for a real treat :)

Dark Archive

I would love to be considered for this game!

I could potentially bring Kolris here. He's an Investigator/Swashbuckler with 6 xp currently, about to earn his 7th. I'm sure I could get him one more game to get into the XP range needed to play these scenarios. I have not played any of these scenarios before.

Kolris is a bit of a cantankerous elf who somehow charms his way through. Via a variety of traits and class abilities, he's actually a very effective face that leans on cold reason to make his point, instead of warm personality (of which, he has none).

Sadly, I don't have enough replay stars to be able to do this, but I highly highly highly endorse GM Evilminion as one of the best PBP gms I've ever had, and just wanted to say that if your considering it, you should absolutely go for it!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Hmm... more folks who've done this before, then new folks, so far. =)

All are welcome to apply! New player friendly (beyond the need to be level 3-4ish I suppose).

Remember, this won't be until January, so you'll have some time to get chars into range, if needed.

Thematically appropriate always good too!

I've been lurking on the forums looking for a newbie friendly game and this looks perfect, so I would like to throw my hat in with Floria Avernathus.

Floria is a young Taldan noble from Yanmass whose family made their fortune making uniforms for the military. Despite her tireless efforts Floria's family has fallen on hard times, and need money to maintain their position in society. In a last ditch effort to save their name her parents sent Floria to the Pathfinder Society to use her hitherto hidden-away "gifts" to earn fame and fortune.

Floria had her own reasons for joining the so iety, because the origin of her psychic powers has long remained a mystery. There are rumours that her uncle made a pact with a fiendish entity to barter her soul for unspeakable power, but her parents have always denied it, and he's no longer around to ask. For her part Floria has done what researches she can, learned the languages of hell and the abyss, but she hasn't found any answers in her books. She's ready to take on any missions that might bring her closer to the truth about what happens to her when she gets angry.

She is a level 4 abomination psychic who travels with her handmaiden Martella (i.e her porter) and while good, has a "dark half" that comes out when she's angry.

I hope that's the sort of thing you need!

Thanks

Tom, is your PC going to be the right level? She's listed as level 1 in your profile... and despite being friendly for new pbp folks... you will still need to be level 3 and a bit to start this!

Yes sorry she has 10 XP, I haven't updated her profile since I created her. I'll update it tomorrow, in my enthusiasm I may have been a bit hasty in replying to this before doing that, sorry!

I probably should also say that she's entirely GM credit so far and I haven't actually played her yet, and she has a GM chronicle that will kick in when she gets to level 5. When I say I'm new I mean to play-by-post, I've been playing PFS for a couple of years, but the role-playing opportunities of PbP are very appealing.

Heh, that's fine. =)

And ya, pbp is great for giving you time to really do the RP stuff.

I would not need any replays for these games and Almaas would have clear religious, personal and economic reason to fight against evil in the Worldwound!

Here also an RP examples.

Given that you're in my current run, I am familiar with your RP, Norwuz. =)

Sovereign Court

I have 2 characters that would be a fit. This seems interesting.
Cayden Cailean warpriest
Unchained Rogue

Scarab Sages

I offer up Huni, a human warpriest of Irori. He adventures to test himself against the universe.

Grand Lodge

dotting for interest with this character..lvl 3 rondelero

Hey GM EvilMinion,

to be honest the experience to have you as a GM is currently so great that it would be unfair to take a spot as I already had the pleasure!

So I am withdrawing for new players to enjoy the rich worlds you create! ;-)

Have fun everybody!

Oooh! Sounds fun!

I've got a few characters that would be in range for this, so I'll drop off some synopses (But TLDR, 3 skillsy types and a support cleric):

Sangkip Thugyeik: An acquisition specialist for the archives, Sangkip doesn't really believe in frills. He likes to get in, get the goods and get out. No muss, no fuss. He stands tremendously short for a Vanara, barely cresting two and half feet tall, and despises it when friends or foes underestimate him because of it. Those who have seen his skill with a pair of daggers rarely make that error. He possesses great skill in stealth and other dungeon crawling specialties, but typically uses it to overcome obstacles, rather than circumvent them. He can supply roguish skills and melee carnage; he's less dependent than most rogues on a flanking buddy, should it be relevant, but they are of course welcome ;)

Shabah Al'Quna: A serious, sober-minded, and shapechanging operative of the Padishah Emperor, Shabah nonetheless holds their duties to the Pathfinder Society in penultimate regard. They make best use of their learning and training in matters of infiltration, but when the time comes for battle, their skill at metamorphosis allows them to tear enemies limb from limb with their bare hands. They too can supply roguish skills and frontline fury, while also possessing some flair in social encounters.

Theophilus Flink, Entrepreneur: A slimy, oily, fence and thief. Theophilus has a keen eye for opportunity, but a healthy regard for his own skin. He's quite a talker, but his social conquests almost always involve golden coins rather than a silver tongue. While he understands that his work with the Society is what has afforded him many of his best opportunities, he's always happy to call an audible if he thinks the situation demands it. After all, the situation back at the Lodge is not always the situation in the field. He three can supply roguish skills and ranged support with his telekinetic abilities.

Vlazis Chibuzo, called by some The Beloved: Vlazis is the friendliest, most charming diabolist you'll ever meet. He's quite open in his devotion to Dispater, the First King, and is happy to explain the necessity of order in a world that constantly spirals towards chaos. In battle he tends to either support his allies and show them the marvels that can be achieved when all act with a single will, or instead he imposes his Will upon the enemy. The First King's power is more than enough to cow the weak-minded. Vlazis is an expert at earning the trust and belief of strangers, and has some learning in arcane matters, but his true strength is what his God permits him. In battle he makes use of Variant Channeling to (hopefully) keep his enemies in disarray while his companions strike true.

I've GM'd a couple of these scenarios, but haven't actually played any of them - hope it works out!

Sovereign Court

Actually have 3 characters that are perfect xp for this:

Giovanni Stellaluce, a city-born intellectual of sorts. Spent some time in academic study classically trained in rapier combat. Has always been the charismatic type, people open up to him.

Umberto Ricci, a scruffy warpriest who enjoys a tussle followed by copious ale. You'll find him sharing his ale frequently with friends and splashing it in his enemies faces accompanied by a swat from his mace. Umberto would follow Shabah to the abyss, btw.

Alessio Imeroni is a mustachioed doctor of sorts. His wide range of extracts keep him prepared for most occasions. He specializes in healing and potions.

The Exchange

Aww. Though Shabah would be very surprised to learn of that. They are far more used to exhibiting loyalty than inspiring it.

Dark Archive

Amarandlon here would be interested - he's exactly the right level (4) and I haven't played any of those before!

Nice of you!

OK, will sort this out by, or on, the weekend!

Silver Crusade

Did I miss the announcement or has it been postponed? :P

Heh. Was working it out this afternoon. =)
Then got distracted!

I'm a slacker at heart. Hard to feel the press of urgency when its not til January!

Owner - Gator Games & Hobby

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Well especially after all the testimonials, I'd guess you've got some players waiting on tenterhooks :-p

Paizo Employee

Due to RL time constraints I need to withdraw my character from consideration. Thanks!

Best of luck everyone!

Dark Archive

Similarly to Danicka, I think I'm now getting overcommitted so I'm going to withdraw. Thanks, though, and good luck all!

Scarab Sages

Huni is still available.

OK then... (I didn't mention which weekend it would be, did I? =))

So, after some thought, I've decided to go with those folks who've played none of them, and haven't tried this sort of thing with me before.

So:

Eamon Valda who can't decide on a class via lucklesshero
Floria Avernathus the Psychic via TomG
Huni the warpriest of Irori as himself
Caro Cogitatus
cwethan
OG3

(Woodenman, will keep you as a backup, in case one of the others drops out before start time!)

For those who didn't submit a particular character (the last 3) ... you can try to sort that out in the Discussion thread, though keep the Worldwound setting in mind! As well as the various party rolls you might need filled.

Would ask that cwethan keep that diabolist at home (I tend not to ignore that sort of thing, and a city full of paladins is not where he'd want to be for an extended stay).
Also, how is it that Sangkip is size small? (vanaran are medium sized!)

Thanks everyone!
