Ahoy gang! I've fallen in love with Pathfinder and I'm itching to get into some games. I've been unable to find any local ones, and before GM'ing myself I'd love to try my hand at a short PBP jaunt.

Let me join my virtual voice with those sending warm welcomes your way, Kabello! This is indeed the right place to learn about Pathfinder and PFs, particularly for Play-by-Post games ("PbP"). For those new to games on these boards, I would direct you to the handy slides about our Play-by-Post Lodges, which can be found at this link. In it you will find links to our sister lodges for PbP on Discord and Myth-Weavers as well as links to some helpful guides for PbP and other useful links.

For "real time" VTT online games, I recommend that you join and search Warhorn, which can be found here. Unfortunately, I understand that Warhorn will be shutting down in mid-June. Until then, however, it remains a great way to find online and face-to-face games for Pathfinder.

Much of the recruitment for adventures run on these boards via PbP is done in this thread, although recruiting is a little slow at the moment due to our latest online PbP convention wrapping up.

For more Play-by-Post games as well as online VTT, there is also PaizoCon Online 2024. You can get your tickets and link to the Discord to ask questions about games at the convention here.

As for adventures for beginners, there is the Pathfinder Beginner Box, which contains a fun, solid adventure specifically designed for newcomers to the game. Even better, each time you play through it, you can earn "experience" that can be applied to a legal PFS player character.

If there is interest, I would be happy to offer to run a table of that adventure on these boards in early June (after PaizoCon Online concludes). The adventure comes in two parts, which are connected, but can be played separately. Each adventure is designed to take roughly 4 hours to complete, which ends up being about 4-6 weeks times via PbP.

I would be delighted to save a seat for you and for any other players new to Pathfinder and/or PbP.

Unfortunately PaizoCon is coming up shortly, so it might remain on the slow side.
(Although if you want to buy a ticket to PaizoCon, the con has pbp games.)
This recruitment thread is often very active, but for those special events the recruiting is done elsewhere so it has periodic slowdowns.

I've found that Organized Play is an excellent fit for pbp. It sounds like you're familiar with pbp? If I'm reading that right, I'm sure you're familiar with one of the major problems it has. Everything is slow and takes a while, so it's inevitable that something will happen, and you have slowdowns and loss of momentum and player attrition, and most pbp games never make it to a conclusion.

Society functions as a series of one-shots. Any given game has an ending and is relatively short, but then you can just play another with the same character. Or take a break for a while. Great fit!

The Quest I'm recruiting for is an especially short game. Quests are shorter than Scenarios--this one is designed to take about an hour at a table, which should translate to less than two weeks pbp.

If you'd like to sign up, feel free. If you'd like to sign up and you don't understand the sign-in form because you're new to this, just let me know and I can help you with that.

Have you signed up for Organized Play yet (looks like you have)? Do you have a character? You can either create your own character, or get started using one of the iconic pre-gens.

(Oh, and a tip for using this forum, which actually has some pretty useful pbp tools: You can make any game thread accessible from the "Campaigns" tab in your profile by joining the game, which you do just by posting in the Gameplay thread. That's why this Lodge is built as a game--so it has a Gameplay thread and you can easily add it to your Campaigns. If you don't have anything you want to post there, that's okay because it still works if you delete the post. You can just post a single character and then delete it to join the campaign and easily access the Lodge.)

Silver Crusade

Be nice to have more people accessing the Gameplay for the Lodges. My characters get lonely

Warhorn is shutting down? :-(

Any word on why, or if there’s a similar resource available?

Warhorn is a one-person operation, and that person is unable to continue supporting it.

I've heard that there are efforts for someone else to take it over, but nothing definitive yet.

Recruiting for a hopefully speedy run of the Repeatable Quest Series 2 #14 Swordlord's Challenge in support of the Battlecry! playtest.

Replayers welcome and even encouraged. I'd like to run this pretty light on RP and focus on trying out the playtest builds, both as players of them and as teammates.

In order to ensure there's some balance to the party, I'll allow up to 2 Commanders AND up to 2 Guardians. That way there's room for at least 2 other classes at least, and room for some folks that can't or don't want to build playtest characters.

I'd also like to run this in the high-tier as a test of the level 3 playtest builds rather than just level 1. See the Lorespire Playtest Rules page for details on making a level 3 character.

I'd suggest also using messageboard "aliases" instead of committing a character name to a short playtest PBP run, but that's up to you.

Recruitment Thread.

Reposting this to keep it on the front page and give an update. We've got 4 PCs so far, with room for two more still. Planning to start on Monday, but I'm flexible.

Marcos Farabellus requests the presence of the following Pathfinders to meet the Swordlord’s Challenge and test out the capabilities of some new Commanders and Guardians:

Tepin (Michael Hallet) = Commander
Knab the Knave (rainzax) = Guardian
Ulfgar Ironhead (Ebonfist) = Ranger
Mannak (Marjim Marc Arafiles) = Guardian
Locke Aldori (Blake’s Tiger) = Swordlord Rogue (that’ll be interesting!)
Dran'Thal (J.G) = Magus

Please check into the Discussion thread and then introduce yourselves in gameplay.

Only 1 Week Left!
GMs, with only 1 week left in Outpost VII play, you should be winding down your tables (assuming you aren’t already finished) and getting them ready for reporting by our HQ crew. Hopefully you are in a good place to finish by the May 13 end date, but if not, please go ahead and mark your tables Ready for Reporting by May 13 so we can wrap up the convention in time for Paizocon. Then, finish your games as soon as you can. If you need assistance in pushing your game to the finish, please contact your PBP lodge Venture Officers.

Now recruiting for Ques #3: Grehunde's Gorget

A Pathfinder Society Quest designed for levels 1–4 (subtiers 1–2 and 3–4).

Venture-Captain Bjersig Torrsen calls the PCs north to the town of Iceferry in the frigid Land of the Linnorm Kings. There, Bjersig informs the Pathfinders that he has a request from the family of a storied and long-dead Linnorm King. The family's patriarch, the warrior Hlavard Grenskuldr, appears to have perished in a shipwreck while wearing the family's heirloom, the gorget of the Linnorm King Grehunde the Sunchaser. For one hundred generations the family has passed this heirloom down from parent to child, until Hlavard sought to wear it on a journey to Valenhall as Grehunde herself had intended to do before perishing with the task unfinished. Unwilling to leave the relic to rust away in a watery grave, Hlavard's family has requested the Pathfinder Society's assistance in locating the shipwreck and retrieving the family treasure.

Closing Weekend!
Okay GMs, this is the closing weekend for Outpost. Most of you have already wrapped up your games and reported by now (great job, by the way), but we still have about 30 games still going. Please wrap these up as soon as possible so your players can get ready for the next adventure.

Even if it looks like you won’t finish the gameplay by May 13 we are asking you to go ahead and report your games by the deadline so that we can finish up the admin stuff and close out the convention before Paizocon. Please help us by getting these last few games reported. Thanks again for stepping up to run games. It is greatly appreciated!

That's a Wrap!
154 games were reported, split almost evenly between GM Choice and First Come First Served recruitment. 60+ GMs ran the games and hundreds of players joined them. What a great turnout!

Once the last few games get reported, we will be mailing out randomly drawn prize vouchers, so make your offerings to the gods of chance, and may fortune be on your side.

We want to hear your feedback, so please fill out this feedback form. Let us know what you liked, and how we can improve in the future. This form is anonymous, but if you want us to get back to you, please let us know how (paizo forum message, discord DM, or email).

Feedback Form

(Yes, the form says Outpost VI.)

Thank you all for participating in Outpost VII - The Allies We Made Along the Way, and be on the lookout for the next PBP event, Gameday XIII, coming this fall.
