A Wild Adventure!

A sound echoes across the world’s farthest wildernesses: the howl of countless animals and beasts! This all-new 224-page Pathfinder rulebook dives deep into the wilderness like never before! With new ancestries, character options, animal companions, wilderness foes and more, Howl of the Wild provides a traveler’s pack worth of value for players and Game Masters alike!

Join a bumbling naturalist and an eccentric crew as they cross continents in their fantastic airship, searching for four legendary beasts. Along the expedition, you’ll find…

  • Six playable new ancestries to bring PCs' wildest characters to life: strong minotaurs, swift centaurs, magical merfolk, amphibious athamarus, animals awakened to consciousness, and insectile, metamorphic surkis!
  • Archetypes, spells, and other player options inspired by nature, from additional options for shapeshifting druids to playable werecreatures to archetypes that let you fight with claw, tail, or wing.
  • New animal companions, weapons and armor forged from the scales and fangs of magical beasts, and all the gear you need out in the field!
  • A menagerie of Golarion’s animals and beasts for GMs to unleash on players, covering animals like dinosaurs and sharks, expansions on classic monsters like chimeras and griffons, and never-before-seen creatures like the transparent sky fisher, the potion-brewing apothecary bee, and the extradimensional rift chameleon.
  • All rules optimized for the remastered Pathfinder Second Edition game!

Excellent book

5/5

I liked the new ancestries a whole lot. But to me the best part about this book are the stories about the crew and ship included. Absolutely loved it

Finally, the Minotaur Ancestry is here!

5/5

The whole book is great, but the best reason to play a minotaur in Pathfinder instead of that Other Roleplaying Game is the fact Pathfinder minotaurs have DARKVISION.

Well played, Paizo. Well played.

A dragon with even a few of the Winged Warrior abilities is absolutely terrifying!

I'm really hoping that the droon teasers in this are bread crumbs for a soon-to-be-announced southern garund lost omens book, its a region of the world we've really never explored in anything 1e or 2e. We know more about Akiton than we do about southern garund lol

I didn't see an answer to this on the rest of this thread.

On page 151… the Concert Frog’s melee attack damage is listed as “2d11+11”. That’s a typo right? Should it be “2d12+11” ? Do I need a bespoke d11?

Reroll any 12s :D

Should it be d10 or d12?

Guess it could go either way.

We actually have names and tidbits about... I think it was either 12 or 14 nations in Southern Garund, the last time I counted! Would love to see it get some actual spotlight, though.

It's to hit is Moderate for a level 8 creature, can be bumped to a hair under high with it's conduct ability. High Strike damage for a level 8 creature is 2d10+11(22), extreme is 2d12+15(28).

If the damage is 2d10+11 that is right on track with high Strike damage, and it bumps to 2d10+11+1d4 (25) so below extreme damage. Whereas if it is 2d12+11 the average is 24 and 27 respectively. I think it more likely it has high damage than extreme.

TLDR; probably should be d10s.

Agreed. My count is 10--Chauxen, Dehrukani, Droon, Eihlona, Ekkeshikaar, Holomog, Nurvatcha, Tirakawhan, Kaz'ulu (3 city-states), and Murraseth (first among equals in a loose alliance of 4 city-states). So arguably up to 15 if you count the nearby city-states separately.

This book already got some errata as of today, including some changes to the minotaur's Stretching Reach feat (which was intended to work similarly to a stance), the witch’s murmuration cantrip damage, and the supramarine chair’s movement, as well as a couple other points of errata.

Neither because they used to be locathah and sahuagin/sea devils are nowadays called... What was it again? I haven't gotten used to sahuagins' new name yet.

Starting from Lost Omens Tian Xia World Guide, they switched to a FSC-certified "ecologically sourced" paper source. So yeah, they couldn't get exactly the same feel of paper. You can see the logo on the ORC/credit page at the end, at the bottom.

It got errata today because they wanted the Spring/Summer errata cycle for this year to happen before PaizoCon this weekend, and they knew there was some Day 1 errata they could squeeze into here, too. Day 1 errata for some books isn't unheard of (Player/GM Core and Dark Archive managed it).

Also, it take a couple month after sending the files to the printer before they get the printed books, in that time, it's possible they could see mistakes while it's too late to stop the printing process to fix, thus needing errata.

Anyone know what time (and timezone) the PDF actually releases?

It's Wednesday the 22nd for me! But clearly I'm in the wrong timezone.

Paizo is on the west coast, so in the PT timezone, and I often joke they are in the Paizo Time timezone instead of Pacific Time. xD

I wouldn't expect anything to release before 12:01AM PT, but I have never tried to buy something the day it released, as a sunscriber, So I'm not sure exactly when things actually release. My own guess would be between midnight and 10-11:00AM PT.

So in 4 hours and an half, at the very earliest, at the time of writing this.

I believe the PDFs are unlocked manually when the Paizo staff enters the office. I think they open at 10:00 am Pacific Time.

The beliefs section of the Minotaurs doesn't even mention Baphomet, who was their patron god in PF1.

I guess the Worldwound being closed and the Templars of the Ivory Labyrinth being routed means he can't really influence them anymore.

WOTR CRPG spoiler:
Or that sick burn from Nenio really got under his skin.

Here's the link to the reason for this (by James Jacobs):

Baphomet is being shifted away from being a minotaur 'OGLism'.

(Also, Baphomet is officially still around in Pathfinder 2E, though he may be very dead in some home games...)

Carry on,

That's fair, but my explanation still works for an in-universe handwave

It was 12:02 am, Eastern time.

I don't think Paizo has an office for people to go to any more (though they may still be transitioning to all work from home (except the warehouse, of course)).

I do think it's likely. When this book (or more specifically the premise of the book) got announced, it struck me as foreshadowing Droon. Flipping through the PDF though... I really think Iblydos is coming next. There is a lot of riffing of Ancient Greece, both ancestry and bestiary wise. And it also does some work setting up High Seas/Ruins of Azlant sequel with all the aquatic stuff too. Though I suspect that is a bit further on the horizon.

What's up with the PDF being so large? 230-ish MB is way more than normal.

I am not looking forward for reduced-size PDF, because recently it meant the quality of images in files got worse.

If I am reading the PFS2E information correctly, everything is legal except for a few things. Have the boon point costs be updated? I checked yesterday afternoon and did not see anything.

I think my favorite part was how much the crew members would talk about each other in their anecdotes. Got their point across, but also made it a more immersive reading experience. Like I was reading an actual travelogue instead of a rulebook.
