With the second mention of the creatures scattering/splintering, I'm getting the distinct impression you do not want us to chase them all down :)

Fahrenheit 451, baby!

It is unlikely you'll be able hunt them all down with winter approaching, though I'm not trying to stop you from attempting it, necessarily.

The entropians (for lack of a better term) are chaotic by nature, not just preference. They'll always move in ways that are unpredictable. That leads to a fractured and separated lot, which are easier to deal with individually (there won't be any armies of them, for example, at least not until they've been around for centuries) but harder to deal with as a whole.

Honestly, I could almost spin off a second set of players with 1st level characters whose job it is to run around the lands hunting down these creatures. I'm not going to, but it would be CR appropriate and something Gygax would have approved of back in the day, I think.

Allas! These natives, are they human in appearance?

Yes. Sorry I was vague. In my mind it was obvious.

Human Male uRogue 4 | HP 38/41 | AC19/T14/F15 | Saves F+3/R+8/W+2 | Perc +8/+12 hidden-secret | Init +4

I think I have 150 gp (+1 composite shortbow), but not gems... I can swap with group loot.

Male Human Starving Artist 6, Cartographer 6, Babysitter 4

Gems makes sense, in a way, as those are always usable as magical components whereas coins are only really useful for a few things. though silver is good in a pinch when you need to go after certain monsters.

I had assumed some expenditure with group treasure would happen. 1/5 of it is technically yours.

Male Human Starving Artist 6, Cartographer 6, Babysitter 4

Do we still have the new guy coming in? Hadn't seen them post anything new here.

Male Human (Polish Jew/Native American/Irish) Techie 7/Martial Artist 2
Uret Jet wrote:

Don't think so. He/they never responded back to my requests for a completed character and hasn't posted back here.

Male Human Starving Artist 6, Cartographer 6, Babysitter 4

Well, we've stil a teensy amount of time before setting out. Have any other takers for joining in?

Male Human (Polish Jew/Native American/Irish) Techie 7/Martial Artist 2

I think we'll run this encounter with Spizz. I'll post on the recruitment page in a few days; want to give our missing new player a few more in case they got ill, had an emergency, or the like.

Male Human (Polish Jew/Native American/Irish) Techie 7/Martial Artist 2

Did Djack use any of the party funds on his equipment? If so let me know what and I'll update the totals.

Yes, please... can pay back.

LOL, wide open... we're screwed. No stealth, either.

Is the creature to scale on the map? Looks like it's at least Gargantuan (Long).

Male Human (Polish Jew/Native American/Irish) Techie 7/Martial Artist 2
Djack Nymball wrote:

It's probably not scaled perfectly. 10'(high) x 7'(wide) by 20'(long). Huge would be 15x15, so pretty much huge.

Djack Nymball wrote:

So if you can somehow reach the area in map northeast, you would have an area for repeated attempts at hiding and sniping. That's probably about the best you can do stealth-wise. But getting there would require some sort of distraction from a different direction.

Other than that, going up with Rocko (for flanking) is the most likely way of getting your sneak attack damage.

Human Male uRogue 4 | HP 38/41 | AC19/T14/F15 | Saves F+3/R+8/W+2 | Perc +8/+12 hidden-secret | Init +4

@Yoltzin - at Level 4, you get Mighty Heralds (Augmented Summoning), +4 STR & +4 CON.

So, another +2 to Hit and Damage.

Male Human Starving Artist 6, Cartographer 6, Babysitter 4

Ohhh, thanks, I missed that.

Edit: Summon has HD: 2d10 + 6 ⇒ (8, 8) + 6 = 22 HP

Male Human (Polish Jew/Native American/Irish) Techie 7/Martial Artist 2
Djack Nymball wrote:

Is this +2 to hit taken into account with the 15 total, or does it become 17?

Male Human Starving Artist 6, Cartographer 6, Babysitter 4

I edited it in, 15 is the new total from 13 previously. Believe you me, if I could get an extra +2 I would- actually, the elemental might be technically charging. Hm, I'll leave it to you to decide as it's kinda gamey.

Male Human (Polish Jew/Native American/Irish) Techie 7/Martial Artist 2

Think I'll say no on the charging for this round since it wasn't called. Don't want to make it too easy on you all.

Male Human Starving Artist 6, Cartographer 6, Babysitter 4

All good!

Male Human Starving Artist 6, Cartographer 6, Babysitter 4

Seems we got the short stick end this time.

I like to nonsensically see it as, maybe that means my attack dice will be better.

Human Male uRogue 4 | HP 38/41 | AC19/T14/F15 | Saves F+3/R+8/W+2 | Perc +8/+12 hidden-secret | Init +4

If Djack cannot get into flanking position this round, can he move north and shoot an arrow... in preparation for flanking next round?

Male Human (Polish Jew/Native American/Irish) Techie 7/Martial Artist 2

If he moves diagonal northwest 30', he can fire at the creature from the side and, assuming Rocko (or the elemental) engages melee before next round, yes.

Female Wild Elf Cleric 4 | HP 14/33| AC:16/T:12/F:16 | F/W/R: |+5/+3/+7 | 1st 3(1)/3(1), 2nd 3(1)/3(1)| C: 2d6 2/4

Yoltzin might not get an AOO, but if the beast moved away from the elemental than her summon would. Which is about the only attack I can make with it seeing as it's going to take two rounds to get over there now...

Oh... I can just charge! Scout's Charge for the sneak attack! And charging allows double move, so I definitely reach.

If I charge its flank (no pun) then I'm in position to flank/sneak next round.

I go last, so just giving others a chance to do their respective thing(s).

Go for it. give it a shot retroactively. Sorry 'bout that.

Human Male uRogue 4 | HP 38/41 | AC19/T14/F15 | Saves F+3/R+8/W+2 | Perc +8/+12 hidden-secret | Init +4

So Yoltzin is to the left of Spizz on the map?

Male Human Starving Artist 6, Cartographer 6, Babysitter 4

Sanctuary stops working with the target takes an offensive action, so that was... a bit of a pontless spellcasting.

It's hard to remember all the interplay and Spizz might not know that.

Male Human Starving Artist 6, Cartographer 6, Babysitter 4

Yeah, True. Can't expect characters to know all the ins and outs of a spell.

Human Male uRogue 4 | HP 38/41 | AC19/T14/F15 | Saves F+3/R+8/W+2 | Perc +8/+12 hidden-secret | Init +4

Ooh... I'm not used to debilitating injury, I guess I'll take the -2 AC, -4 AC with respect to Djack.

My bad, missed that part. But yeah, Spizz' power is growing, but his spellcraft ability is as nonexistent as ever. He'd have had no clue.

Will try to remember. Remind me if you think I miss it next round.

You didn't forget anything.

After the sneak damage, the effect takes (and I was last in init order) until end of my next turn.

So next round -2 AC for others, -4 AC vs Djack.

Male Human Starving Artist 6, Cartographer 6, Babysitter 4

6 HP is 6 HP I guess. Her channels will get stronger next level at least, and she should be getting better heal spells soon too.

I'm also throwing heavier stuff your way when you're not on a long dungeon slog with a lot of encounters per day. This one SHOULD be dishing out some decent damage. If you didn't have to spend resources to get through it I'd be worried.

Male Human Starving Artist 6, Cartographer 6, Babysitter 4

I really hope it fails it's save, as I don't think 5 damage is gonna do it here.

Human Male uRogue 4 | HP 38/41 | AC19/T14/F15 | Saves F+3/R+8/W+2 | Perc +8/+12 hidden-secret | Init +4

I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think a creature that big can fail a Fort Save.

Male Human (Polish Jew/Native American/Irish) Techie 7/Martial Artist 2

*whew* you only needed 1 Hit Point! On the other hand, no damage this round would have almost certainly resulted in one or two deaths, if not TPK.

Male Human Starving Artist 6, Cartographer 6, Babysitter 4

Lordy, +11 on that save. Nuts. Glad I went with guaranteed damage then.

Male Human (Polish Jew/Native American/Irish) Techie 7/Martial Artist 2

Some quick interneting and cross-referencing with tables gets me to Rocko pulling a leg section along on a sled (roughly 700 lbs) will add 1.25 hours to the trip time. Also add about 45 minutes to the time for constructing something that will work as a sled (requiring a DC 15 Survival check). Might be easier to bring a smaller hunk for now (say 100 lbs, which Rocko can easily carry if he divvies up his equipment among the rest of the party) and come back tomorrow with help from the tribe. Nothing else is going to be big enough to carry significant amounts of it off, and it won't go bad at this temperature, especially buried in snow.

Male Human Starving Artist 6, Cartographer 6, Babysitter 4

No way, go for the dinosaur drumstick. That's a status symbol. This is non negotiable.

Male Human Starving Artist 6, Cartographer 6, Babysitter 4

I love the brave little guy, but I feel as if Yoltzin would show real concern for how often he puts himself at risk. She's not the type to beat around a bush either.

MEAT AND BONE FOR ROCKO!

Of course he'll take the time.

He did also use his one spell of the day to send an animal messenger to the village. Hopefully they can meet us halfway if we get lost or too cold

Human Male uRogue 4 | HP 38/41 | AC19/T14/F15 | Saves F+3/R+8/W+2 | Perc +8/+12 hidden-secret | Init +4

We could sleep in it, like the bantha... in The Empire Strikes Back.

Male Human Starving Artist 6, Cartographer 6, Babysitter 4

I thought it was a tonton?

Yeah, that!

that was only temporary while Han built the shelter. They slept in what was effectively a high-tech tent with a space heater
