"Damn, no wonder them crows not be talking to Kaki."
He leans over to Yoltzin.
"I be thinking we send friend Kaki back to your village with warning note? Maybe they be sending helpful something back? Even small help is help."
"Not let us leave ... this Master be wanting us to work?"
Rocko ponders what Kaki had said. "But they still be black birds, hmmm. I have food and shiny things, if that be helping them talk."
As he pulls out several offerings from his pouches, he naturally lets Kaki know, "You get first pick if you be seeing something you like."
Rocko squints at the buildings. "Huh, those not be looking like nice elf buildings, no? Maybe I just be tired and hungry and not knowing what to see."
Rocko scratches his chin as he looks at Momo in appraisal. "Bison friend be looking perfectly fine to me. Nice long snout, maybe could use good fur coat."
Rocko shrugs "But hairless flat-face only weird to me, I be thinking?"
Rocko grunts in annoyance "Okay, so maybe rest not be a good idea tonight."
Rocko will suggest, "I be thinking we best rest first. We be finding a way over water easier with the sun back up."
Just double checking as to whether or not Djack's last two attacks included the flanking bonus or not.
Djack Nymball wrote: Does that mean, they are also susceptible to flanking, unless specifically immune to flanking? It's Rando's final call of course, but usually undead with human body types and facing are susceptible to flanking. I included it.
If I remember correctly, we're in difficult terrain, so Rocko will take a move to advance over and forward for flanking, then take one attack. I'll include flanking, power attack, prayer, and favored enemy bonus
Rocko grits his teeth to offset some of the fear that comes naturally against such a foe. He puts all his might into a swing that will hopefully strike true.
"Sleep, sad angry girl. We be gettin' you some revenge after this."
battleaxe power attack: 1d20 + 12 + 2 - 2 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 12 + 2 - 2 + 1 + 4 = 21
damage if hit: 1d8 + 6 + 4 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 6 + 4 + 1 + 4 = 19
just in the off chance Rocko can shift diagonally and take the second axe attack, here are the rolls.
battleaxe second power attack: 1d20 + 7 + 2 - 2 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 2 - 2 + 1 + 4 = 15
damage if hit: 1d8 + 6 + 4 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 4 + 1 + 4 = 20
I am back to where I should be able to post. Sorry in advance if I forget in the chaos that these last two weeks and the upcoming one has/will be
For round 1, I'd be happy to have Rocko take an action before the banshee, but it does look like she beat him on initiative. The banshee should get to act again for her round 1 action before Rocko gets his round 1
I can't remember if Rocko gets his +2 preferred enemy bonus on this fort save or not. I'll roll without, then you can add if applicable.
Rocko fort save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
I noticed you didn't use the <> around the girl's speech. Does that mean she's speaking in Espan rather than Elven? Is it actual voice or in our head? Or was it just a typo?
Rocko looks at the trees and frowns, "Something be odd about the trees. They look wrong, smell wrong. Like it be wrong for the season."
Rocko grins as he suggests, "Friend Djack might be more charmed than be charming. Your folk be very good at walkin by, acting like we not here when we be right here. Even I were thinkin it were pretty funny."
Rocko nods at the summary. "They bein quite nice to us for people who not want us here."
And from Rocko's point of view, he's taking the 'can't understand what they're saying' in stride, because he's still surprised they even let him in
Hey, suggest it here first if you think it might be too much. Otherwise I think it sounds cool, myself. Can't imagine it having a huge in-game effect
Rocko doesn't want to be rude, but he's extremely curious as to what is being said.
very nice roleplaying there :)
Rocko nods "I be likin the 'not mess' choice. Best be ready all the same."
Rocko considers the obvious tracks left by the party, horses, and wagon.
"Might be good blurring our tracks a bit, play it safe like."
let me know what rolls would be appropriate. Hopefully better results this time around
well poop, looks like Rocko messed it up. Hopefully it's an unnecessary roll or a very low DC
Rocko doesn't want the horses to get spooked and run off (we did bring the wagon into the forest, right?) His first inclination is to grab a big blanket and throw it over their heads while brushing their necks and making soothing noises.
animal handling roll I guess? If Rocko has the time and a roll is needed. Does mean he will start the fight with shield and axe stowed
handle animal: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
"Some times just survivin' be easier than trying to make something else."
Rocko has an odd hunch that we should buy some curative ointments and potions. Remove paralysis, remove poison, remove blindness/deafness, and some more potent cures, preferably 3-4 of each. If need be, we can even pitch in for a wand for Zia.
Rocko is always quick to remind the party that it would be much easier to feed everyone more thoroughly if they'd just be more willing to eat bugs, worms, and plants that most people consider bitter weeds (spicy!)
"Oh ho, little dragon! Good to see you too! And friend Pious!"
Rocko will pick Spizz up, give him a playful toss into the air like one would do for a child, complete with catching him on the return.
"So what you two be doing here?"
Rocko nods, "great caution indeed. Most of them people building be fine folk. Then one come in and be saying 'I rule it all now'. Then there be 'true bloodshed'."
Gotta love how the party has the full range of alignments: Lawful Good, Chaotic Good, Lawful Neutral, True Neutral, and Stupid Hungry
All this deep morality vs thirst for vengeance, and over here is Rocko: "So, can we eat it?"
After hearing about the settlers, Rocko has a question for Yoltzin,
"These 'homestead' people, they be building near your home?"
Rocko shrugs.
"A big fire be freein' the spirit to fly on. One bite be good enough for me. Let the beasties here get their fill of the rest."
Rocko start searching the stream.
"But first I be getting that tooth I cut off fair and good."
Rocko shrugs "It went huntin' game too strong. We hit hard, it stayed, now it be dyin'"
Rocko thinks about it.
"Best we not be eatin' it then? Reckon it would make all us food right quick."
totally missed that one, thanks! Not likely to be a crit, but I suppose it's possible
second shield crit confirmation: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Rocko makes a determined grin as he attempts part diplomacy, part taunt. "Guess you still not be talkin'. So much for green death wings bein' smart."
Rocko will then unload with a series of attacks meant more for quantity than power in the hope something lands hard.
first battleaxe attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
damage if hit: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
first shield bash: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
damage if hit: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
second battleaxe attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
damage if hit: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
second shield bash: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
damage if hit: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Judging by the 3x3 size on the map, player is guessing we must be facing off against a young adult green dragon? We should be glad that you rolled really darn low on its breath weapon.
Do any of the characters know dragons well enough to have an idea of its relative toughness, combat ability, etc?
"Hmpfh, no talkin' then"
Rocko rushes forward to deliver a mighty swing of his axe. Preferably right at the mouth to chop off a tooth trophy.
battleaxe charging power attack: 1d20 + 12 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 12 + 2 - 2 = 26
damage if hit: 1d8 + 6 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 6 + 4 = 18
assuming of course that the river doesn't count as difficult terrain that would restrict charging
reflex save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Rocko's initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
"Maybe they talk if'n we be givin' a gift?"
Rocko nods "Sure. Just be showing plenty respect."
initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
also, note that Rocko's AC will be 2 lower than usual since he sleeps in hide armor rather than the heavier breastplate
Rando wrote: "...so the farmer says 'It's because he doesn't want to be spotted!' Take my meaning? Spotted?" Vasco says, finishing the joke he began as you walked into the pavilion. Rocko, having several spotted cousins who would rather have striped or solid coats, guffaws quietly to himself. He would have laughed louder, but it's best not to be in the habit of laughing at jokes that wouldn't go well with some of his tribe
Rocko crosses his arms and grins, "Bah, it not be sweet talking when it be the truth. A good friend is a great strength."
"Sounding good to me. Best be prepping well if our trip be going for a long ways"
Rocko will think about what kind of travel conditions they would be expecting and how best to prepare supplies and plan a route.
will throw in both a knowledge nature and geography roll
knowledge(nature): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
knowledge(geography): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
bleh. off to a great start
Rocko is considering training some animals to help assist the town as needed - guard dogs for businesses, militia, and those who want to travel into the wilds, birds to use as messengers, anything that might be useful for the locals.
Provided there's an interest and available young, trainable animals.
Heck, even getting cart horses or plow oxen might be on order if it helps
Hopefully Kaki doesn't get jealous at Rocko giving away so much attention. I'm sure a shiny bauble or two will help offset that.
Maybe Rocko get Kaki to learn a new little stunt or two. Nothing big or combat related.
Rocko grins at the thought of the unexpected. "Peace, but be ready for all"
He'll also be on the lookout for possible goof ups in Djack's use of the gnoll language. Hopefully this group doesn't use a weird dialect.
"Hmm, Let's be lookin'"
not sure what skill would be appropriate. probably a knowledge(local) which Rocko doesn't doesn't have. Guess it's a d20 and hope for the best.
"Well, one thing be certain. They can see us."
recognition: 1d20 ⇒ 10
Direct route sounds good to me
Rocko will once again go for the most number of attacks, hoping to land one or maybe even two hits on this thing.
first battleaxe attack: 1d20 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 11 + 2 = 24
damage if hit: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
first shield bash: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 9 + 2 = 16
damage if hit: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
second battleaxe attack: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 6 + 2 = 27
damage if hit: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
second shield bash: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 4 + 2 = 23
damage if hit: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
