Rocko frowns at the sight.

"We best be looking for runners who came back to hide. Sounds quiet, but ..."

As hopeful as Rocko's words sounded, he has little expectation of actually finding anyone. He still wants to check

Sounds like a plan. I hate to see the game end, but it's been a great run with plenty of fun memories. Better to see a finish than just leave it hanging.

Sorry that this has just been a wild and crazy time for me. Closed on buying a house start of the month, need to move from apartment to the house by month's end. I also have a double pace online summer class and a triple pace online summer class.

I'll try to do better the next couple of months to help finish the campaign strong

Sorry I've been lazy in posting for the last few weeks. End of semester and finals kicked my butt, and now I've got to get a six week course up and running from far less material than I'd like to start with. I will try to be more diligent in checking in

Rocko looks rather dazedly at the fine mist that is all that remains of their former foe.

"So, no eating the beastie?"

Rocko shakes his head, trying to clear it.

"Not fair. Lost sleep, no food gained, just be getting a headache."

okay, yeah. that's bad. Rocko's going to need some assistance or he's going to convince himself this thing can only be defeated by eating it

Rocko is oddly curious at the loopy feeling from being smacked by this thing.

Fort save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

better resolve this one first. another 4 wisdom damage and Rocko will be prone to making some foolish decisions

wow, big old round of fail right there, folks.

FORT save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

After wincing at the nasty sensation of being touched by this unnatural beast, Rocko will steel himself to strike back with a pair of full force chops.

battleaxe first power attack: 1d20 + 15 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 15 - 2 + 2 = 16
damage if hit: 1d8 + 7 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 7 + 4 = 15

battleaxe second power attack: 1d20 + 10 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 10 - 2 + 2 = 12
damage if hit: 1d8 + 7 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 7 + 4 = 15

Rocko will drop the torch and pull out his shield before taking one full strength attack on the thing.

"Chop chop, here be hoping."

battleaxe power attack: 1d20 + 15 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 15 + 2 - 2 = 34
damage if hit: 1d8 + 7 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 4 = 14

included flanking this time around

So question about this blob creature. Can it be flanked and hit with precision damage and/or crits?

"Anyone be knowing best how to fight this beastie?"

Not knowing what else to do, he will unleash as many attacks as he can, focusing more on number rather than power.

battleaxe first attack: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15
damage if hit: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

burning stick first attack: 1d20 + 10 - 4 ⇒ (4) + 10 - 4 = 10
damage if hit: 1d3 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

battleaxe second attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
damage if hit: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

burning stick second attack: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 5 - 4 = 3
damage if hit: 1d3 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

I'm assuming the burning stick is an improvised weapon that could break? I'm going to add the -4 penalty unless it's close enough to a club to count. I'll count it as d3 if it hits, but feel free to adjust and add any fire damage as appropriate. I also left off any flanking bonus, as player is not sure this thing can be flanked.

Init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Rocko grabs his axe and one of the heftier sticks from the fire to act as light and potentially even a makeshift weapon.

"Someone be needing some help!"

Rocko is pretty sure the human is the one to help, but he'll try to get a closer look to be sure as he approaches.

FYI Rocko would be switched over to his hide armor for sleeping. He's got the shield slung on his back to switch to it, but for now his AC is a pretty abysmal 18.

Happy belated birthday!

And I'll try to make sure I'm checking in regularly, but lots of real life stuff happening these last few days. Doing house hunting and put in a formal offer on one today.

Rocko breathes deeply of the morning, prairie air. Other terrain may have their charms, but nothing beats home.

"It be a mighty fine day for travel! How about some good food to put us all in walking shape?"

With just a little prodding of the fire, there's soon the perfect temp for cooking what he pulls out of his magical pack.

A slight breeze keeps the fire nice and red, but also sends the scent of the cooking meat, eggs, and veggies adrift on the wind.

Rocko laughs to himself as he realizes.

"Well, no hiding it if anything downwind be liking steak, hash, and eggs."

Rocko frowns as he gives his rather harsh view of the situation, "Helping be nice and all, but them people need to get strong and fight for themselves, too. What good is it if we be going and kicking some tail then it gets double worse when we leave? Sure I be fine with going along, but I want to know there be a good solid plan so it be worth something."

Rocko has been listening in as he begins handing out fresh tankards to all.

"Hmm, the south not be where I know best, but why the sudden fuss? I thought that be mostly open land with not much to see."

After passing them out, he takes one tankard of his own and gives it a sniff.

"And have a swig. Piper be wanting to know what y'all think. He be saying this batch 'good strong stuff'. You be getting first taste."

Rocko steps into the main area from the kitchen carrying two huge platters piled high with some of his most recent cooking attempts.

"You be just in time, and with a new friend! Or old friend? Well, he be new to me! Dig in everyone, and I be back with plenty of strong drink!"

Sorry I haven't checked in recently. Busy week at work, illness running through the family, and coming up to the deadline to take care of some stuff on my dad's estate.

I will try to send an updated character sheet through FB messenger later today. I will assume Rocko got the shield, modified Rosentos's armor so he could wear it comfortably without being obvious to its source, and I'll add two free cooking ranks.

Honestly, I'm not sure I've ever given Rocko any traits? I'll have to look

1 person marked this as a favorite.

During the downtime, Rocko doesn't exactly have any big business plans. The one thing that he's been thinking of is how the party gets food, cooks, and eats while out in the wild. As a gnoll, Rocko isn't particularly choosy, but he's noticed everyone else seems to be much happier when they can get to towns and have traditionally home prepared meals.
Rocko has an idea of how to have nicer meals while out in the field, and he'd like to go about putting a plan together. He knows there are 'bags of holding' that could contain better cooking gear and ingredients, possibly even with a way to keep food fresh. He'd also like to spend time with people around time trying to pick up their cooking techniques so he can do meals more like everyone else likes (which Rocko likes eating too). After all, why not enjoy the trip more?

Yes this is bald-faced cribbed from the anime Campfire Cooking in Another World, but hey, it fits Rocko's ideals too.

Rocko blinks in disbelief at the pieces of Momo going through. There's a flutter of wings at his shoulder and the cawing equivalent of laughter.

"Haw haw, should I try sending you through like that?"

Rocko frowns as he adjust the various items he'd been carrying.

"Just be flying through, you little cackler."

Kaki lets off another cawing laugh as he soars through the magical portal ahead of Rocko

Ready when everyone else is. Rocko will do his best to remember what Yoltzin said and stay polite during his discussion with the elven ranger

At some point Rocko would have asked Yoltzin.

"I be hoping I could share with your hunter folk what we saw with these dead ones. I be willing to share my tribe's techniques in tracking and fighting dead ones if it be helping them. And maybe they can tell me a thing or two to help me, which be helping all of us."

Maybe we can ask the elves to occasionally check up on the humans that remained to help clear any remaining 'taint' of the vampires. Hopefully it's the start of more pleasant relations between them

Rocko will nod. "Lead on"

Oddly enough, Rocko seems determined to at least watch from a distance.

"Go, be safe, but I must be seeing this to the end. Not right here, mind you."

"And there were a memory of yours in a room in Rosentos's house if you be needing it back for your sleep."

Seeing as how the story is currently on the banshee/Rosentos completeion, did we already resolve the bodies of the minion vampires and what was to be done about the two werewolf servants?

Sounds like a good order. I would like to have at least a minimum of roleplaying for some of these steps. And heading home, should we count on being level 7 for any encounters?

So in prepping for level 7, here's a roll for another level of ranger HP

ranger hp: 1d10 ⇒ 1

Ah well, can't always get the high roll

Of course, Djack could benefit from the ring as well

Off to the side of the stash, a shield-sized piece of tarnished metal decoration catches Rocko's eye. It almost looks like it doesn't belong in with the other treasures. It looks similar to a decorative coat of arms of some sort, but with unusual symbols, artwork, and what might even be an unknown type of writing on it.

Rocko picks it up, muttering "This might be making a good shield with some work."

It instantly turns from a drab decoration into a lightweight, brightly decorated metal shield with the same exotic patterns on it.

"Shikabi! Good thing Rosentos not be knowing this was here."

+2 mithril heavy shield plus a glamering effect

Rocko would like the +1 breastplate. And Amideo could use the ring for a defense boost

Rosentos was wearing breastplate, wasn't he? Was it just plain old armor or something nicer?

The sword he wore but wasn't using is also something we'll likely want to return as proof of our victory

Rocko shrugs, finding the suggestion acceptable.

"I be better at sniffing out food, not treasure. You all go look, and I be staying here to keep Lord Dead One's head off his shoulders."

Rocko considers Yoltzin's concern.

"Well, there be that weird cursed room. Maybe tell the folks here that burning the building before we be setting it to rights would be cursing them too? That should make them be keeping their distance. I think they be trusting our word to return."

Rocko is a bit confused as to the insistence in order

"Can't we be taking the bodies to the angry elf lady and then come back? This island not be going anywhere."

After Amideo suggests burning, Rocko remembers,

"Maybe that angry dead elf lady be the right one to finish this."

hah! yeah, that's about right for a dumbass trick like that

Not having any more immediate options, Rocko is going to try to slam the handle of his axe downward right through the vampire's chest. It's brutal and a bit crude, but Rocko isn't renowned for his cleverness or subtlety.

I'm going to count this as an improvised weapon (club?) and won't include the +2 that would almost certainly be localized to the blade. I will still include the favored enemy bonus. I will also count it as a two handed attack for the purposes of strength bonus.

axe handle power impaling: 1d20 + 11 - 2 - 4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 11 - 2 - 4 + 4 = 10
damage if hit: 1d4 + 7 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 7 + 4 + 4 = 16

Merry Christmas to those who celebrate. Hope everything is going well for all of you this week and next :)

you can do it!

Rocko will step up next to the other minion vampire, hopefully so the croc is on the other side. He'll then unleash all his might on his opponent.

"Time for one less Dead One"

battleaxe power attack 1: 1d20 + 11 - 2 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 11 - 2 + 2 + 4 = 23
damage if hit: 1d8 + 7 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 7 + 4 + 4 = 21

shield power smash 1: 1d20 + 9 - 2 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 9 - 2 + 2 + 4 = 29
damage if hit: 1d4 + 2 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 2 + 4 = 11

battleaxe power attack 2: 1d20 + 6 - 2 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 6 - 2 + 2 + 4 = 15
damage if hit: 1d8 + 7 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 4 + 4 = 18

shield power smash 2: 1d20 + 4 - 2 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 - 2 + 2 + 4 = 11
damage if hit: 1d4 + 2 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 2 + 4 = 9

Okay, looks like the second attempt succeeded ... barely.
How much of Rocko's turn remains?

aaaaand looks like Rocko will now be making that second attempt.

second will save attempt: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15

Rocko shakes his head clear. "Geh, I be losing my mind ..."

Rocko will take the first will save attempt at +2

will save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13

Rocko feels that something is off, but it seems oddly realistic that yes, his companions can handle this

Oh, the math is absolute in favor of taking the two rolls over the one, which means that's the option I'll take

I take it Rocko must have had to guess which one of the spawn was doing the domination and he guessed wrong? Because given a choice, he would have gone after the one doing the domination

well now

crit confirmation: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (18) + 15 = 33
extra damage if hit: 2d8 + 30 ⇒ (4, 8) + 30 = 42

Well, if Rocko wasn't told to stop attacking, he's going to wallop that fledgling vampire as hard as he can twice with his axe.

battleaxe power attack 1: 1d20 + 13 - 2 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 13 - 2 + 4 = 35
damage if hit: 1d8 + 7 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 4 + 4 = 18

battleaxe power attack 2: 1d20 + 8 - 2 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 8 - 2 + 4 = 11
damage if hit: 1d8 + 7 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 7 + 4 + 4 = 17
