Just to clear things up: I see Fuìn willing to pay part of the treatment, Cherry Berry wanting to pay in full, and Kka pulling the money from the party bag. Who has now actually deducted the money from their funds? Just to prevent 45 gold being paid for a 20 gp doctor's fee. :P

I marked the cost of the treatment on the loot sheet, so everyone can hold onto their money for the time being. We can worry about who pays for what when we finish the level, but this strikes me as an adventuring cost to be bourne by the whole group.

I'm okay with that, but as soon as he gets some loot Fuìn will want to put some into the party pot to contribute for sure. :)

Actually that brings me to a pretty important question, now that I think about it. How is the party doing loot distribution? Is all gold going into a party pot, or does some of it get split individually and some into the pot? It doesn't seem like it all gets split up (else there wouldn't be a party fund to begin with) so the question is really does it all go into the pot or a portion.

And for magic items, is it just a group discussion who gets what, or do you do roll-offs, or vote?

We've only had a couple of loot distributions to date and so far we've used a party pot approach with wish-lists and consensus agreement on what to spend the money on. Since our PCs are all in this together for the duration, (IMO) it behooves us to spend the money efficiently to maximize the survivability of the group as a whole. This may result in individual PCs not getting the toys they want because it makes more sense for the money to be spent elsewhere. The reason we didn't spend all the money at the end of the last level is that we're expecting some large expenditures on Striking Runes for the front-liners at the end of this level, and Armor Potency rules at the end of the following level.

Not sure if this is a viable long-term approach, so if anyone feels this isn't working for them, we can discuss other approaches. For example: In my Troubles in Otari AP, we decided on a slightly different approach. (1) Sell everything, (2) Divide cash evenly, (3) If a player wants one of the loot items, they can 'buy' it back at the price we sold it (effectively, not selling it in the first place), (4) Players decide what to spend their cash on but co-operative cash-sharing agreements with other players are encouraged to maximize effectiveness. The results might not be as 'efficient' as the holistic approach, but this might be made up by increasing the overall happiness level of the players.

Slides Loot sheet

Yeah, as Kka said, important stuff goes on a play-erby-player basis: find a cool weapon? Can Kka or Lough use it? If not, the other are probably not interested, so onto the loot pile it goes. Then gold gets divided evenly, even though some people might've gotten some more goodies than others. (Though people can of course object and give part of their share away if they feel they got too much.)
I'm not sure if we've consciously kept a reserve or if we just happened to have some spare cash (I think for the first level there just wasn't anything interesting to buy just yet), but in general I think it's good practice to keep some spare cash for cases like this.

I did the thing Kka mentioned once in a different campaign, but it felt weird and wrong, but I can see why people would use it.

Wow, it's been a year already? Time flies when you're having fun. Originally I though I could finish a book in a year, but I guess it's more a year and a half, maybe two. Looks like we're in this for a while. :)

Giyozara mentioned a while back that he's GMed this AP in the meantime, and I've heard from Kvit as well that he's done the same (and thanks for the information, by the way! I forgot to reply back). I don't mind if you have knowledge of the adventure, I haven't seen you meta so far. Hope you're still enjoying this despite your knowledge. I hope the rest of you are enjoying things as well! If you have comments, complaints, or advice, please say so. I'm always open for requests and improvements.

Oh yeah, forgot about the contract. You can have it translated back in Otari for 5 silver pieces. If you do, open the spoiler tag below.

Kka is quite interested in finding out what is in the contract and whether there is a way to get rid of the devil without having to risk her feathered neck trying to kill it. Killing it probably would only get rid of it temporarily anyway, but it would let us have a look behind that door in his office. There may well be something worth more than 5 silver in the next room.

So that's one vote to spend the 5 silver on a translation.

I say spend the silver also. Kvit does plan on retraining to multilingual during the next downtime/leveling period. But that doesn't help right now.

Hey all, I mentioned this before, but Apoc Golem doesn't know, so: In about 32 hours I'm gonna have jaw surgery (nothing serious, don't worry), and I'll be recovering at a friend's place. I won't have access to a computer, only a mobile phone, so expect no updates for a while. I think this'll last about a week, but I hope I'll go home earlier. But just to let you all know that from Monday on, there'll be no updates from me in a while.

Speaking of, I haven't seen Lough post in a while, and his aliases have been silent for a while as well. I'll shoot him a message and see how things are going.

I'm back! I came home yesterday, but I've been catching up on stuff I missed while staying with friends.

All in all, the operation went fine. Some friends babysat me in case I was too woozy to do anything and started licking spark plugs or something, but the whole thing went surprisingly well. Barely any pain after the operation, and regular painkillers were enough to suppress those. The only issue was that I need to survive on a liquid diet for a while, but that's been going well too, so all in all I'm pleasantly surprised by how smooth everything's been going. I wouldn't recommend getting your jaw broken, but overall it's much less of a hassle than I feared.

From what you can tell, this is all custom-made to fit Belcorra's original purposes. The lighthouse was built before Otari, and there are no treacherous waters nearby or anything, so it's too in the middle of nowhere for it to be inhabited by anyone other than a crazy mage.

Lough hasn't posted in a while, and I've shot him a message. Last time he said he was recovering from the Gameday. I hope he isn't burnt out.

I plan to bot him for this combat, but I don't want to run him as a GMPC. What do people want until he returns? Someone else bot him, or drop him from the party until Rainzax returns?

Seems rainzax hasn't posted anything anywhere that I can find in nearly a month; he hasn't posted to the Ruby Fists campaign he's GMing in nearly two months, which doesn't bode well. Let's hope he recovers soon from whatever is ailing him.

As to the future if he doesn't return? I probably have enough bandwidth to bot him for a while, but not indefinitely. I'd hate to lose one of our frontliners as it would mean that Kka has to fill that position again along with the frequent brushes with death that will entail, but so be it.

How about we bot him for a while longer and hope the real Lough returns soon. If he's not back by the new year, then we play it like he's finally snapped mentally and take him back to town to recover while we go back to the Vaults.

Then again, maybe the mushroom poison will kill him and this whole discussion will be moot.

Yeah, with the holidays approaching, it might be time to slow down/pause the game.

By the way, how is everyone enjoying themselves (apart from being busy IRL)? Giyozara and Kvit have said they've already GMed this adventure, but I hope that doesn't detract from the experience. I'm certainly enjoying the party composition and shenanigans. Leechy is an interesting addition to the party. :)

As I've said in the past, I'm good with whatever pace everyone else is happy with, so slowing down or pausing the game until after the holidays is fine by me.

I'm still having fun with the adventure and my role-playing of Kka. I like it when there is give-and-take between the PCs and I feel the loss of Lough in this respect. I'm also still hoping to develop Kka's arc and personality more as the adventure progresses.

I haven't GM'd this adventure. Must've been someone else?

I'm still having fun, though running out of creative commentary for these never ending rooms of gross bodies or body parts, lol.

I'm good with whatever pace over the holidays or a break. I will likely be available to post regularly throughout the end of the year.

I agree with Kka's sentiments about missing Lough.

I'm enjoying playing Kvit, but I'm struggling a bit with what his arc may be. I'm implementing one idea, so we'll see how that goes once a couple days/weeks of in-game time go by. And I'm not sure I'm being super consistent with his personality. I want to play up his warren connections more in the future but that's mostly only for downtime or procuring items occasionally.

I definitely won't be able to post daily or anything until after the new year, but if people want to keep going I should at the very least be able to post a couple times a week.

I enjoy personal story arcs, though having GM'ed AP's before I know it can be tricky to work them into the written storyline. It's a fun challenge though! Makes me miss my Crimson Throne game (went DOA about a year ago), I had so many wild ideas for threading in characters' stories and never got a chance to find out how well they would have played out. That makes some sense. I haven't played PF2 past level 3 so far. But I could see a small creature being more dangerous than a large creature for several reasons mechanically and thematically.

Big monsters you can run away from and hide. I doubt you could escape a crazed monkey.

Coldest Christmas in 80 years here. In addition to no-warning rolling blackouts and massive family schedule issues, I spent a good portion of the last week (and a lot of next week) helping my terminally ill father and a OCD Mom prepare their Christmas as well as my own.

Oof. Sounds like rough patches all around. I hope y'all are taking care of yourselves as well as your loved ones!

San Diego would be nice to visit but I don't think I could live there. I assume the cost of living is similar to other nearby areas like SF and LA. My brother lives in LA and he says the cost of living is insane. Our hope is to get to Oregon in the near future, Medford specifically. They have an aesthetician program there that my fiancee wants to enroll in. Meanwhile I'll be trying to kick-start my freelancing. The goal is to one day work for Paizo as a writer or developer, meaning I'd have to move to Washington state (apparently, weird tax stuff makes it so they hire almost exclusively in-state for permanent positions), but for now I'd be happy just to get my foot into the industry's door. I got platinum prize for 2021 RPG Superstar!, so hopefully that will give me enough cred to pick up some work. Fingers crossed anyway.

And not to brag, but Owen KC Stephens follows me on Twitter, so there's that. XD

(Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if he did it by accident but regardless, I was pretty excited!)
