Since the Darkness spell only states that: This also suppresses magical light of your darkness spell's level or lower, and does not mention "counteracting" the Light spell, then Cherry's Light spell will only be counteracted/extinguished/dispelled if it was explicitly targeted by the Darkness spell. If the Darkness spell was cast at a specific location within it's range, then it would merely "suppress" and block any magical Light trying to pass through its area of effect.

From the GM's verbiage it appears that Volluk directly targeted Cherry's Light spell, thus counteracting it, and requiring her to recast it.

Ah, my bad, darkness rules are weird and I must've conflated some things. I think by RAW Cherry's light must've popped on again when they left the sphere. I took the best of both worlds, both counteracting it and creating a sphere of darkness (I think you're supposed to choose one option; if it's counteracting, it's not creating its regular spell effect). My apologies.

Question: On the spectrum of fun to frustrating, how enjoyable was this fight? Volluk shut down a lot of strategies, but I think you did very well against it. The damage resistance was tough though, and I can imagine several of you feeling useless. But you did great! I think this fight is just a matter of whittling it down over time, and it makes for a proper end-of-book boss fight. I want to keep an eye out for future fights like this if this turned out to be too much.

I am having lots of fun!

Sometimes I am unsure what is going on on the map (multiple unlabeled overlapping circles), that is the only mildly frustrating bit, but that has nothing to do with Volluk.

I know, but as people normally need to roll to identify magic items, I rolled with the intention of failing, so that Cherry, who is not happy with all these, (basically evil) artifacts that we keep finding could misunderstand the item's use.

I thought it was good. Invalidating our usual tactics occasionally makes things interesting. I personally finally had a use for acid splash!

Part of that might've been me. I added a not-circle area to count the squares since it is hard to tell where the circle ends for aoe effects. I added a slide towards the end of the slide deck with a 20ft burst and a 5ft emanation

The fight was good. It made the usual front line less effective which allowed the back line to shine a little.

I enjoyed it!

It's hard sometimes in PbP with these big boss battles, because this fight would probably be like forty minutes long or more in a live game. Bosses have lots of HP and/or defenses and they're supposed to be memorable! That doesn't always translate well to PbP, where things slow down considerably, but you also don't want to nerf the fight and make it a cakewalk, either. I think, as far as bookend BBEG's, this guy was actually not too bad. He got in some good licks but overall I think we weathered the slimy leech-storm really well! I love the Worm That Walks, too. It's been around at least since 3.5e iirc, and is even in more than one system! WH40K has a Worm That Walks in one of its books too. In my old gaming group, it became commonplace when a roll went badly to shake an angry fist at the sky and yell "NONESUUUUUUCH!" ("Nonesuch" was the name the Worm That Walks used. It was before my time, but apparently it caused quite a ruckus for their Rogue Trader crew.)

We're close to the end of book 1 here. If anyone wants Chronicle sheets for their PFS character, drop their info down here and I'll give you a sheet.
How AP credit works is that you get a full level of XP (12 XP), and gp in scenario-style increments. So if you're at 8 XP, you get gold as if you've completed a regular scenario at level 1, and then twice more at level 2. If you're at a weird XP number due to Quests/Bounties, you still get gp in increments of 4 XP (so if you're at 11 XP, same as before: one time level 1 gp, twice level 2 gp).

Your PFS character also gets access to the Ghost Hunter archetype! Not a super strong archetype, but it's cool.

I think Tomb Born is from a special. It grants you access to a few spicy backgrounds. The only boon you get from this AP is Ghost Hunter.

You have it right. 48 XP gets you to 5th Level and 60 XP gets you to 6th.

So 2 two times Level 5 and one times Level 6 is correct.

Kka: level 5 gp is 100, level 6 is 150. Should be 350 total.
Kvit: three times level 1 gp (14) is 42.
Lough: Two times level 1 gp (14) and one time level 2 (22) makes a round 50.
Cherry: Two times level 4 gp (64), one time level 5 (100) makes 228.

Weird!

I downloaded the chronicle for Mandoo and when I try to open it on my PC (Adobe Acrobat 2017) I get an error as follows: An error exists on this page. Acrobat may not display the page correctly. Please contact the person who created the PDF document to correct the problem. What it displays is a unfilled chronicle page missing Character Name, XP Gained, GP Gained, etc. The only thing that comes through is the "Horizon Hunters +12" in the Reputation Gained box.

If I open the document in my browser on Google Drive, I see all the information filled out as it should be, so I'm at a loss. I've tried downloading the chronicle several times using different methods and get the same error every time. I'm reduced to screen grabbing the document as it displays on the Google Drive website to capture the information.

Not sure what is going on. Is there some way you could recreate the PDF in a slightly different way, maybe as a reduced size PDF, or a PDF that's backwards compatible with Acrobat 2017? I created a PDF from the screen grab, so I've got something, but an original non-image version of the PDF would be nice.

PS. Also, does our assigned PC get any downtime to Earn Income? 3 8-day chunks maybe? If so, then here are the rolls:

Huh, weird. The reason you see the rep is because I baked the rest into the sheet so you couldn't edit the numbers, but there's an extra hoop I have to jump through to do it again because I forgot the rep, and I couldn't be arsed (that's why rep earned does show up, somehow). If I don't bake it in, it should show up. I'll also edit in your earn income (last one is a nat 20, by the way). Try redownloading it now.

Also, yeah, Earn Income really is useless. I guess it's only there because people want downtime for retraining purposes, and then they have to add in stuff for people who don't need to retrain. The amount earned is small enough to not matter versus people who constantly retrain, I guess. Still though, earning income really is useless, also in a normal campaign. A +1 weapon potency is 35 gp. To earn that at level 2 through Earn Income, that's 117 days of work (assuming trained at level 2, earning 3 silver a day). I mean, I guess it's realistic, but come on.

Yes, you do! Counts as three scenarios (since it's one level of XP). Not as much as you'd think an AP would give, but it's better than nothing.

Doesn't everyone get 80 ACP right off the bat these days, both for Pathfinder and Starfinder? I vaguely remember getting a free chunk of 80 ACP about a year ago.

Check out THIS POST that talks about the 80 ACP bonus that all players should have gotten in June 2022 and which all new players start with. If you did not get this 80 ACP then maybe you should send an email to pfsreportingerrors@paizo.com (or maybe customer.service@paizo.com) and see if they can tell you why.

If you go to your Organized Play page (select it from the My Account drop-down menu) and then click on the "Boons" tab, you can scroll all the way down to the bottom and it will show you a list of the "Boons you have purchased". That list will show you if you spent ACP on anything.

Ah I see it. Yeah, no purchases listed, just a pair of boons I picked up from scenarios. Weird that it doesn't show all the boons I've picked up from scenarios, just these two.

You need to "buy" the scenario boons for 0 ACP before they will show up on your list. You can find them on the "Rewards purchasable with Chronicle Boons" list. If you aren't eligible for the boon (ie. your PC hasn't been reported as having played through that particular scenario) then you will get an error message to that effect.

There are a couple boons from scenarios I've played that it doesn't let me purchase, which is kind of frustrating because I need one of them to make my leshy monk legal.

But on the bright side, I got an e-mail from Alex Spiedel saying he sorted out the AcP thing. I now have that AcP chunk and I can play my ysoki inventor! (Eventually. It's gonna be a minute, I rarely play PFS these days. But some day!)

Should we be upgrading our PCs to Level 5? What about the loot? Should I start the accounting process? Doesn't look like there's a lot there, but we should take care of it when we level up so we can upgrade out equipment, if only slightly.

I have Kvit leveled to 5 in Pathbuilder, but updating his statblock on the forum will have to wait til Monday.

I added Lab Rat, increased Deception to expert, learned Haste and Hypnotic Pattern.

I want to learn Color Spray (2gp) and a direct damage spell like fireball or lightning bolt (16gp), but otherwise don't have anything much to buy.

I have about 240 ACP and can't decide what to do first.

1. 206 ACP - "DEATH" Skeleton Fighter with Sorcerer (undead) Dedication. Thinks they're really Death but must have amnesia. But really was just a farmer (hence the scythe) in an unfortunate accident near lastwall at the wrong time. Will likely play them somewhat like the discord Death character.
2. 240 ACP A Phoenix type person, Strix ancestry with Ifrit heritage. Flame order Druid. Though unsure of backstory and personality.
3. 160 ACP A telekinetic tiny toy poppet psychic. Again, stuck on a personality for them.
4. 160 ACP A sharpshooter automaton ranged monk.

Oooh, Ifrit Strix sounds awesome. Not sure what the character would be like, but I'm a sucker for well thought out themes. Maybe they think they're the reincarnation of some famous person from legend?

I'm always wary of characters with negative energy healing. I guess it's easier now with Medicine healing than in First Edition, but I'm always afraid of getting beaten up without anyone able to heal me.

I just made a Poppet Barbarian, just because I wanted to be a Tiny frontliner. The mental image of this wee thing dishing out Barbarian damage tickled me. Made him a weapon thrower, so the 0 foot range thing is less of an issue. THIS is what I'll show other people as a character image.

That's why I thought to give him the sorcerer(undead) dedication to give him easy access to heal for himself at least. But yeah, seems like a big risk for 206 AcP.

Please double-check my math or point out if I missed anything. At this point it's time for people to come up with their wishlists. We're now at Level 5, so I've already included the purchase of +1 Armor Potency Runes for those that don't already have them (Kka, Cherry, Kvit).

I sold off the Holy Prayer Beads because they didn't seem to be worth keeping, but if Cherry feels differently, then we can move it to the keep list. Same goes for anything else on the sell list that someone wants to keep.

I've pencilled in Lough for the Ghost Touch Rune on his handwraps, but it could just as well go on Fuìn's meteor hammer, or Kka's shortsword. Maybe we should spend the additional 150gp and get Ghost Touch runes for the other two melee fighters as well. It seems the Abomination Vaults are full of the things.

Here is Kka's first cut at a wishlist in order of preference.

Any character that can typically make more than one Strike per round is probably worth getting some Ghost Touch rune.

Recently, I have noticed this happening with the Fighters (per Reactive Strike ((formarly AoO!))) than the Rogue, who has taken to recent Stride-Strike-Stride Shenanigans.

So, just a thought.

I essentially support all the work and everything Kka said - I'd like to definitely focus on Defenses for Lough as a general theme, with secondary considerations for Offense. His dedication and ancestry give him both Silver and Cold Iron, so he has a measure of offensive flexibility even without a Ghost Touch rune.

Maybe we should keep two?...
