Kenabres, city of the crusaders. Normally filled with nervous dread and vigilant eyes, those have been replaced with a few moments of relief and celebration. Armasse is here!

A traditional day for scholars and historians to come together to learn from wars past, since the death of Aroden and the opening of the Worldwound, this holy day has become more about training commoners in weaponry, choosing squires, and ordaining new priests. In Kenabres, the event is widely anticipated, as it provides a brief relief from the horrors of a never-ending war.

The weeks leading up to today, 16 Arodus, has seen smiles on the faces of the usually grim. The entire town is celebrating, with jousting competitions, mock duels, battle reenactments, and other festival events taking place. The opening ceremony happens at noon in Clydwell Plaza, and this is where you currently find yourself.

Take a second to introduce yourself and describe a few things you were doing in the past few hours at the festival, and we'll get this thing started!

Angahaar woke early, as was the custom of many of the Scions. Evil never slept, and while they still had to, it was best to be up as soon as possible. He goes through prayers to Apsu for a safe and joyful Armasse, and runs through combat drills with his cousins. His family would reprise their traditional role of training the commoners to protect themselves from the demons, maybe even pick a few squires to support their fight against evil.

With the early morning's duties done came one of Angahaar's favorite times of the day: breakfast.

The Scion's affluence served them well, and hearty meals were made for the several dozen-odd members of the family, along with their staff, guards, and other retainers. Of note, Argixaran had notified the family that an old acquaintance of his would be staying with them for Armasse, a gnome by the name of Naomi, and that Angahaar should look out for her for the duration of her stay in Kenabres.

Once breakfast was done, he checked in with Naomi, grabbed his gear, his sword, and his armor, and made ready to depart for the festival.

If it's possibly to look completely nonthreatening while riding a wolf into town in the dead of night, Naomi does so.

She's had to push through on little sleep to finish the last leg of her journey in time for Armasse, but her eyes are alive with a giddy excitement as she finally arrives in the hours before dawn. She cranes her neck to stare up at the towering buildings of Kenabres with the look of someone who know's it's a tourist cliche but doesn't care.

In the back of her mind, Naomi is aware she should probably be more on guard. It's not quite a brand new city full of complete strangers, but it's just a fraction of a step less dangerous. She's been to this place as an infant, and she knows the name of a man who helped care for her then, though she doesn't have memories of either. And she has no idea if Argixaran is expecting her, whether he got the letter sent ahead with the last group of merchants.

Any thoughts of these troubles are scattered when for the first time Naomi encounters a group of people on the town's quiet streets, workers putting up a stained glass windows in an Iomedaean church in preparation for the festival. Immediately drawn in by the twin excitements of a craft to learn and people to talk to, she approaches and offers to help. They accept with a bit of confusion, once convinced that the wolf is tame and they're not being robbed. So Naomi busies herself fetching tools, holding ladders, and lending what aid her night vision can provide, chatting all the while. By the time the windows are complete the sun is starting to creep through them, and one of the workers is able to point her to where she can find the Scions of Terendelev.

Her (re?)union with the Scions is somehow a much more awkward exchange. Oh, they are certainly welcoming, especially Argixaran, who speaks fondly of Shelyn's delegation in the crusade all those years ago. It's just that she isn't quite prepared for the sort of family who has breakfast feasts brought to them by servants, and it's all a lot to take in. Before she knows it, she and her wolf Calliope are fed, watered, and heading off to Clydwell Plaza next to a silver-scaled human whose sword is taller than she is. She's feeling a little like she's out of her depth, but also like that's not necessarily a bad thing. After all, she chose this. She wanted to see the world? Well, here it is. I'm ready, she tells herself as the opening ceremony begins, for whatever comes next.

Shella doesn't have to attend the festival, but she quite enjoys dressing up and seeing all the people of Kenabres in a daytime context. She watches some games of chance before she spots one of her family members working the crowd and leaves to avoid giving the game away. She eyes some of the food vendors' wares hungrily, but she decides she cannot afford to indulge in delicacies, especially when the prices have been inflated for the event. One day, though, I will be able to have whatever I want, whenever I want, she thinks.

She senses her familiar is drawn more to the libations than the comestibles, and she subtly frees the wasp from her pouch so that she can explore the smells unhindered. "Careful, mother," she says quietly, "do not go far." She sizes up the shopkeepers and a couple of big spenders to try to decide if it is worth her time to lavish attention upon them in the hopes of courting their custom, but decides her prospects are slim while the sun is still high in the sky. "Let's look elsewhere," she whispers to her familiar, gathering her back up into her pouch.

She admires the many would-be crusaders out wearing their fine arms and armor. Knights certainly like to show off their armor, and they are very proud of their swords-- long or short. She smiles to herself and cheers some of the warriors as they pass. Was that a lingering look? she wonders, as one strapping soldier rides by on a horse. Just in case, she blows him a kiss and follows the procession to Clydwell Plaza, where she sees that the opening ceremonies are about to begin.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Regardless of what activities you were involved in before, the three of you find yourself in front of the podium in Clydwell Plaza, shortly before noon.

Armasse officially began as the sun hung directly overhead, with the blessing of the festival by Lord Hulrun himself, ruler of Kenabres. The festival slowed, activities and jousts coming to an end as the crowd gathered in Clydwell Plaza. The people quieted down as the aged inquisitor took the stage, clad in shining, resplendent armor. He cleared his throat, but just as he was about to speak, a bright light shone from the west, as if the sun were rising from the wrong direction. Hulrun’s shadow fell huge and distorted across the cathedral’s facade. A moment later, the sound of a thunderous explosion ripped through the air and earth, along with a violent tremor.
To the west, the fortress known as the Kite—the location of Kenabres’s wardstone—had vanished. In its place, a brilliant plume of red fire, lightning, and smoke erupted into the heavens.
Just a second later, a powerful roar accompanied a welcome sight rising from the crowd—Kenabres’s greatest guardian, the ancient silver dragon Terendelev, who had until that moment been attending the opening ceremony disguised as a human. Her glittery silver scales reflected both the midday sun and the spreading fire around the Kite.

What few crusaders still kept their wits about them quickly attempted to spring into action with calls to arms, but all of that ended when another form appeared, as nightmarish as the dragon was breathtaking. A humanoid shape three times the size of any man, with skin coated in fire and lightning, gripped a flaming sword and whip. The creature’s identity was immediately obvious: Khorramzadeh, the Storm King of the Worldwound, had come to Kenabres!

As the ground continued to shake and disgorge demons into the streets, the dragon and the balor lord clashed above. The fight was over in a few harrowing moments, as the balor cut deep into Terendelev’s body, swooping down to strike the dragon and arresting her charge. A few more blows, and the titanic duo spiraled downwards toward the crowd.

The sight of Terendelev, Kenabres’ most devoted defender, smashing into the facade of the Cathedral of St. Clydwell is one no witness would ever forget. At that moment, a massive demon erupted at the far end of the plaza, reducing several buildings to ruins as it smashed into this world. The rift it created shot across the plaza, and this time there was no escape—it opened below your feet, angling away into darkness.
Even as you fell, she noticed your plight. Though Terendelev saw death standing over her, she seized this final chance to save a few more souls. After she uttered a few arcane words and stretched out a bleeding talon, you felt her magic take hold of you, slowing your plummet into the darkness as if you were feathers falling into a pit.
I can’t…let them…d-“
Her words were cut off, quite literally, as the last thing you saw before continuing your steep dive into the darkness was the Storm King standing before the ancient silver dragon, his sword lashing out and cleaving full through her neck. As her severed head clattered against the brick pavement, a last painful cry echoed around the square, before Terendelev lay silent for the last time.

Finally, the rift above you slammed shut, and the light of the world above was gone.

For a moment Naomi's mind is simply unable to process what is happening. She stares in shock and horror as the massive explosion shakes the very ground beneath her feet, and as the Storm King bursts into the world of mortals to rain blow after blow on their draconic defender. When Terendelev crashes down into the Cathedral of St. Clydwell an absurd thought flashes across her mind, completely out of proportion to the immensity of the crisis.

They must have spent so long on those windows.

Then the thought is gone and the ground is gone and Naomi snaps out of her stupor, lunging toward Calliope and clinging tightly to her fur as they begin to fall. Spinning awkwardly through the air, Naomi is facing upward just long enough to see Terendelev slow their fall and get murdered before the rift snaps out of existence. Naomi's vision still pierces the darkness, and she catches brief glimpses of other figures falling around her. That man with the greatsword — what was his name? She must have been told it a million years ago this morning. And another young woman with dark hair, just a blur against the deeper black of their surroundings.

Naomi holds even more tightly to Calliope, and the wolf in turn nuzzles into her shoulder. As they brace for impact, Naomi does the only thing left to do. She prays. Naomi and Calliope cast guidance on each other.

Angahaar's jaw drops as Terendelev rises from the crowd. Never had he seen her in her full draconic majesty. Whatever crisis might arise, Terendelev had in well in hand...

Khorramzadeh had killed her. His burning, blasphemous sword had cleaved her head from her body. Angahaar could not comprehend it at first. How could it be possible? It could not happen. It was an impossibility. And yet there was her body, slamming into the grand facade of the Cathedral of St. Clydwell.

The magic of her dying gasp protects Angahaar as he falls into oblivion, the draconic magic singing through his blood. His mind swims with fear and sadness and rage. What had happened. How had it happened? How did the demons infiltrate Kenabres?

Who had to pay?

Shella's expression darkens as Hulrun appears on the stage, and she mutters to her familiar some choice words about his parentage and physical attributes that cause the wasp to redden slightly. She turns away to scan the crowd and happens to be looking right at the Kite when the explosion tears through the crowd and the fortress vanishes. She stares in disbelief and begins to look wildly around at the others nearby, to confirm that they are seeing the same things she is. A tall human male in heavy armor with a greatsword, and a small gnomelike woman with a large canine companion, catch her eye and she stares at them unable to formulate a thought as everything collapses around them. She tumbles slowly through the air, head over heels; she cannot believe this is happening, and to her it feels like a dream as the silver dragon reaches out to them and then falls, decapitated by the demon lord. So beautiful, she thinks. Like the moon falling from the sky...

Once she stops tumbling, she realizes she is laughing hysterically in the darkness. She gasps and coughs, and peers around through the gloom, her demon-gifted eyes easily piercing the shadows surrounding them.

Even with Terendelev's spell keeping you from splattering across the sides of the hole on the way down, the trip isn't any less terrifying. Rocks and rubble accompany you the entire way.

Once you land, however, you discover you are part of the lucky group. The ones that made it out of the fall alive. The land slide of the rubble of Kenabres that followed you covered the bodies of those Terendelev could not save-here and there the arms or legs of victims who didn’t survive the fall protrude. Looking around, you see the ceiling and far walls of this vast cavern recede into darkness, and notice that you are not alone.

A younger human woman sits against one wall, her leg bent in an unnatural angle as she winces in pain and attempts to keep it still. A much older male elf carrying an interesting looking staff stands off the far side, a bloody bandage completely covering his eyes. And to top it all off, a heavyset human male is worryingly running his hands over his clothes, either looking for something or trying to find some wound.

Beyond the humanoids in the immediate vicinity, a disturbing shape looms in the darkness. Nearly the size of a horse, what appears to be an immense black spider crouches silent and still on the ground. Apparently these three strangers haven't noticed the spider, as they immediately turn towards you upon your arrival.

The human female on the ground grunts and raises her eyes to the group.
"Friend or foe?"
You can tell she desperately needs a friend right now.

As he lands, Angahaar snaps back into reality. Is this reality any better, though, than the fate that befell those who weren't saved?

He shakes his head, trying to banish the thought from his mind. It does nothing. The darkness that surrounds him is overwhelming, a cloying thing, almost physical in it's anger. His face twists into a mask of anguish, tears welling in his eyes.

How was any of this possible? He looks up towards the ceiling, searching for any sign of daylight. All he sees is darkness, and the crushed bodies of those who did not survive the fall. For a moment, he feels as if his consciousness will slip away entirely. His head spins as he grits his teeth to power through it, bitter determination washing over his face.

The woman speaking just barely snaps him out of his state. He clambers slowly to his feet, taking stock of the cavern. The confidence and bravado of his voice that Naomi had heard earlier in the day is utterly gone as he speaks, replaced by confusion and despair, "Friend?"

His hand moves towards his greatsword as he sees the beast lurking in the darkness. The words barely flow from his mouth as if his mind can barely form the words past the anguish that assails him, "Spider. Behind you. It will strike."

The woman looks over at Angahaar, noticing how upset he seems to be, but not speaking on it.
"It's good to see another friend in these dark times, even if we aren't exactly friends just yet." She shakes her head, seemingly still in shock over the events of the past half hour.

"Name's Anevia. I would get up and offer to shake your hand, but I seem to have injured my leg. Obviously."

She looks down at her broken leg, and then over towards the spider.

"I'm not sure what's up with that thing, actually. It was there when we landed here in the first place. Hasn't done anything or moved since. I don't know..."

"I am Angahaar, of the Scions of..."

His voice trails off as the color drains from his face. His hand drops limply to his side as Terendelev's execution at Khorramzadeh's wicked hands flashes before his eyes again.

He falls to his knees, sighing heavily. His breath is ragged, and he's barely able to hold back tears. It is a small, sad voice that comes from his mouth, "Of the Scions of Terendelev..."

Angahaar shakes his head. Who was he, wallowing in self-pity as a wounded civilian suffered right next to him. He rises to his feet and says, "I am sorry. Terendelev was," he pauses, composing himself, "Deeply important to me. Her blood runs in me, and her loss cuts to the core. But you are wounded. I must help however I can." He looks to Naomi and the other survivor, "I am a poor healer. Can anyone here mend wounds, magically or otherwise."

When Naomi rolls to a stop, the first thing she notices is the sound of wild laughter. Pushing herself up on one arm, her eyes fall on the young woman she saw during the plummet, just as the woman's laughter turns into a choked gasp. "You okay?" Naomi manages, clambering to her feet and waiting for a response.

At the exchange between Angahaar and Anevia, Naomi's attention gets pulled back to the rest of her surroundings, and she shakily speaks up. "Yeah, I know a bit of the healing arts." She hurries over to the injured woman, drawing an old oak twig from her belt and offering one end to her. As she closes her eyes and concentrates, she adds, "I'm Naomi, by the way. And I'll take whatever friends I can get right now, looks like that's just about all we've got going for us." Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

The wound starts to knit closed, but excruciatingly slowly. "Sorry, the magic in this thing is starting to run out. Think you could walk now with a bit of support? Whether it's been moving or not, it would be nice to get further away from that... creature." She glances at the spider suspiciously, then at the cavernous space around them. Knowledge (planes): 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 5 + 1 = 25 Anything she can figure out about the creature or environment?

”Nice to meet you, Naomi.” Anevia responds, taking a sharp breath in as you touch her, obviously in a great deal of pain. ”I think that should get me walking, but I won’t be of much use in combat until we can get it healed properly.”

It’s now that the heavy set man speaks up, his voice rough and gravelly. One full of experience.
”Your wife has always been the fighter between the two of you, anyway.”
Somehow, the man makes even this compliment sound like an insult, but Anevia doesn’t take any noticeable offense.

”Now, now, Horgus, you and I both know she’s been through a lot. No need to say such things.”

As for the spider and the room, Know (nature) is much more likely to be of use. It does appear that the rift was natural in origin, if what caused it wasn’t. It appears to be a giant spider, just motionless.

Upon hearing Angahar’s words, the last stranger in the room, the older elf, turns towards the group and finally addresses them. It quickly becomes clear that he cannot see, as the bandages completely obscure his vision.

”I’m sorry to hear that, stranger. You have my condolences on your loss. What relation did you share with the grey silver dragon, if you don’t mind me asking?” His voice is sincere and reverent, even though he’s not actually looking in the correct direction to speak to Angahar.

”I feel worse for you than that meddler with the broken leg.” the elf whispers under his breath, so quiet you question whether he actually said it aloud.

Shella gets herself under control and smiles her most charming smile at Naomi. "I am a little shaken," she says lightly, blinking her eyes several times, "but I seem to be uninjured." She watches the little woman tend to Anevia, and stares intently at her patient. I wonder if Anevia remembers me, she thinks. Probably better if she doesn't, or if she does that we keep each other's secrets.

Out loud, she says "It is a great pleasure to meet you, Anevia, and you also Naomi, though of course I regret the circumstances. I am Shella." She gives a little sideways curtsey, looking curiously at the others through half-lidded eyes. "We will need to fashion some kind of crutch for your leg, good lady. There must be something in the debris here that we can use to help you. Excuse me, sir knight? Angahar? Would you help me lift some of these stones? Strong man such as you, your prowess would very much come in handy as we search the rubble for materials to fashion a splint."

”She is…was an ancestor of mine, generations back. The dragon blood is strong, and persists in the veins of my family to this day.” The thought creeps into his mind, ”If they are even still alive…” He steels himself against it, persistent though it is, as he nods to Shella, ”Please, just Angahaar. I am no knight, just a warrior for the side of good. But yes, I will help as I can.” He heads over towards Anevia and begins moving rocks so that the woman might stand again.

Would you want a strength check to move the rubble, GM?

It doesn’t take too much effort to search some of the rubble, just a handful of minutes, amd you do manage to find something to make into a crutch for Anevia. What looks like a snapped off wizard staff will do nicely, you think.

”These aren’t exactly the best of circumstances, unfortunately.” Anevia says, grimacing as she remembers what happened on the surface.

”You think so?” comes Horgus’ sarcastic retort, before she can finish talking.

”But we’re not dead yet, so that’s a blessing from the Inheritor herself. And I don’t intend to waste it, personally.” she says, taking the staff and managing to push herself to her feet.

The broken staff is not all you find in the pile of rubble, however. Broken swords and hewn off pieces of armor litter the floor, but the most valuable prize of all lays in three shining silver scales, one for each of you. As soon as you pick one up, you immediately understand that a small portion of Terendelev’s soul stuck with each one, granting them s fraction of her leftover power.

Power of the Scales:
There are three scales, each with different powers. All effects take effect at Caster Level 19th. Each scale will not function if you are carrying more than one.

1. Three times per day as a standard action, a scale can be used to cast Disguise Self. While disguised, the target gains a +4 bonus on all Bluff checks made against evil creatures.

2. Twice per day, the scale can be used to cast Resist Energy, but only against cold or electricity.

3. Three times per day, the scale can be used to cast Levitate. A pillar of roiling clouds rises below the levitating object or creature, growing and shrinking with the target’s altitude. This pillar is 5 feet in diameter (regardless of the target’s size) and provides concealment (20% miss chance) to any creature or object wholly contained within.

Naomi frowns at the harsh words from Horgus and the elf, her mouth tightening. She seems hesitant, but takes a breath and speaks. "Excuse me, is there some sort of conflict between you three the rest of us should know about? I don't mean to pry, but you seem awfully snippy for people who are each other's best chance of surviving this cataclysm."

At that Calliope gives Naomi a nudge, holding out a shining scale in her mouth. Naomi reaches down to give her a quick scratch behind the ears and accepts the scale, her eyes widening as she feels the power it contains. But her gaze stays locked on the other survivors.

”She is nothing more than a common thief. I suspect she broke into one of my warehouses back up top. I’m sure it was to reclaim that sword her wife had to sell from me.”
His glare at her cuts the air between them, and Anevia freezes, almost seething in anger.

”You know nothing about us.” her reply is short and definitely not sweet, as Anevia doesn’t throw any insults back, curiously.

”Oh but I do, don’t I? And you!” Horgus cries out, turning towards the elf. ”Mr. Aravashnial himself. The conspiracy theorist, attempting to ruin my good name. Saying I was in cohorts with the demons, my funds made available for their use. How dare you?” the larger man is quite obviously under an extreme amount of pressure and out of his comfort zone. Although the reaction of the elf, who you know now as Aravashnial, tells you that what Horgus is saying isn’t necessarily untrue.

Shella clucks her tongue as she listens to their new companions air their grievances. "Yes, it is unfortunate that we have all been forced by circumstance to struggle along together," she purrs. "But fortunately, all is not lost. Come, master Horgus, you can walk with me, and tell me more about the life to which you will return once we reach the surface again." As Shella leads Horgus away, Naomi blinks, stunned. She turns toward Anevia, stepping close to help her keep her weight off her leg and murmuring under her breath. "We just saw hundreds of people get slaughtered and he's worried about a sword? If your wife's a fighter like they say I hope you did steal it back. I'm sure it has much better odds of slowing down a demon in her hands then it does in one of his apparently-plural warehouses."

Sure! Naomi has disguise self as an SLA anyway, and levitate could definitely come in handy.

Horgus’ attitude seems to immediately change, as the attention of a woman apparently reminded him of a better time than the one you are all currently living through.

”Well, hopefully whatever demons are and were up there didn’t destroy my family manor. I am sure whatever rabble I had hired for guardsmen flees shortly after everything…happened, but I do hope that the estate itself is in good hands. I have much of value there, should we be able to make it back to the surface…” He continues to ramble on about this and that as Shella leads him away from Anevia, who is visually grateful.

In a quiet tone, she replies to Naomi.
”My wife is a Paladin of Iomadae; I can tell you that she is a very competent fighter indeed. Don’t be too harsh on Horgus, though, he is just extremely out of his element. He is used to pompous affairs and wine, and dead giant spiders and dark caves are just not his forte. He’s a good man on the inside, I assure you.”

Aravashnial, however, seems to be quite lost, both literally and emotionally. You’re not quite sure how he should speak, but most elves don’t speak or act as frantically as he is right now.
”I-uh…help? Finding my way? Well I can’t currently see, so yes I would like some help. Getting back to the surface so I can get my eyes healed. The Rif-“ he abruptly cuts his sentence off before picking back up again. ”I have friends up on the surface that can help me. I’d like help making my way back to them, yes.”

Going back to Shella for a second…

As Shella walks away from Anevia, whether she meant to or not, she has to walk Horgus towards the dead spider. Perception check please, Stella!

Angahaar takes the elf’s hand and places it on his arm, ”Take my arm, then. If battle must start, I may not be able to guide you, but I will make sure you are not close to the fray. Come then, we must move. No way out of here but forward.”

Having purpose, especially that of helping the vulnerable, reinforces Angahaar’s resolve. The pain and loss of the day weighs heavy on his heart but there is work to be done and people to protect.

Naomi returns Shella's wink, then listens closely to Anavia's words. She gives a quick nod. "Understood. I know none of us are in a good place right now emotionally — or literally, for that matter. I hope he makes it back to his warehouses, and I very much hope you make it back to your wife."

On Angahaar's comment, she surveys their surroundings more thoroughly. Appears from the map that her darkvision would reach most of the walls, let me know if that's incorrect. "Looks like we're boxed in on that side, but there might be an opening over there," she comments, pointing. "If nothing else maybe we can find somewhere more sheltered to rest for a few minutes and I can pray for further healing — Shelyn lends me a bit of her magic. I'm afraid I don't think I can do anything for your eyes, Aravashnial, but I could take another shot at fixing Anevia's legs."

Then Naomi's eyes fall on Shella, Horgus, and the spider. Perception (per discord): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26

As Shella and Horgus approach in the direction of the spider, two horrifying facts come to light: a muffled crunching sound is coming from somewhere in that direction, and there appears to be a bulge wriggling inside of the masisive spiders' abdomen. Or...two? Three?

Perhaps not the best news, but at least you are fairly certain that the spider is, in fact, 100% dead. Maybe.

Horgus sees the things moving beneath the carapace of the spider, and screams out in horror before moving several feet backwards. Recoiling, he obviously wants no part of whatever this involves.

Naomi, could you give me a Heal check on Anevia's broken leg?

CG female changeling cleric // inquisitor of Shelyn 1 | HP 9/9 | AC 20, touch 12, flat-footed 19, CMD 9 | Init +3, Perception +8, Sense Motive +9

Sure! Heal: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

Naomi tenses at the sudden movement, her hand reaching instinctively for Shelyn's symbol around her neck. She lets go of Anevia, but not before muttering an incantation to deliver one last spark of bolstering magic. Naomi casts virtue on Anevia. On her other side, Calliope's ears flatten back against her head. Calliope casts guidance on herself. Together they wait, scarcely breathing, for whatever might emerge from the spider's corpse.

Naomi Heal:
Unfortunately, the splint and what little healing you have given her already are about the extent of your power to help her leg. Beyond just getting her out of the stress of the cave, she will likely need more powerful magic, such as regeneration, or a few weeks of solid rest to heal naturally.

While we're at it, why don't we all roll initiative? Or should I roll it for the whole group at once, to save time?

CG female changeling cleric // inquisitor of Shelyn 1 | HP 9/9 | AC 20, touch 12, flat-footed 19, CMD 9 | Init +3, Perception +8, Sense Motive +9

I'm fine with either going forward, but in this case I can roll my own. If you do roll them for us in the future, you can assume that unless I've told you otherwise or already used it on something else, I'll use Naomi's Inspired trait to roll twice and take the best on my first initiative check each day.

They undulate forward and slowly begin sliding across the ground towards you, their mouths wide open exposing rows of sharp teeth. However, beyond their usual disgusting features, something seems...off. The maggots have small red spikes along their sides, and their flesh seems to be tougher than normal.

Angahaar lets out a furious roar and charges forward, his greatsword crackling with arcane energy and he slices into the maggot with the pent-up fury of Terendelev's slaying.

Wow, nat 20 on the campaign's first attack roll! That's a good omen if ever I've seen one.

Naomi stares at the creatures with equal parts fascination and horror. Knowledge (planes): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25 to see if those spikes and tough flesh indicate extraplanar origins. At Angahaar's bellow she blinks hard twice, then seems to snap into focus. "Circle around back," she mutters to Calliope, "but wait for my signal to strike. I'm not sending you in alone." Her eyes showing a glint of understanding far greater than any normal animal, Calliope bounds forward and slinks around to the far side of the maggots, teeth bared. She takes a move action to move 50 ft. and end up directly south of the uninjured maggot, assuming standard compass orientation for ease of reference.

Naomi trails after, still clutching her symbol of Shelyn, the wooden songbird around her neck. She breathes slowly, concentrating. Come on, you can do this... just like in the temple... In the air before her, a much larger copy of the symbol appears, at first just an outline but quickly growing more and more vivid as though sketched by an invisible hand. Just when it seems like it couldn't possibly get more lifelike, it comes to life — a brilliant multicolored songbird the size of an eagle, with beak and talons like jagged stained glass.
Activating her summon monster I SLA as a standard action to summon a celestial eagle with Diehard. I'm good with saying it has Deft Maneuvers instead of Weapon Finesse if that works for you, though I doubt that will affect this fight. It appears 5 ft. above ground level and 5 ft. north of the uninjured maggot. Assuming it takes a 5-ft. step forward, uses smite evil, and full-attacks that maggot, which leaves it flanking with Calliope and attacking from higher ground. Don't know if these things are evil so I'm not factoring it in, if so add another point of damage on each of its successful attacks.
Talon Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13 Talon Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1
Talon Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21 Talon Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Bite Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24 Bite Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Fly: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11 DC 10, to remain flying after moving less than half speed.

As the bird sees the foe before it and swoops in to strike, Naomi cries, "Now!" Calliope lunges forward to snap at the maggot as well. Attacking with Power Attack and guidance.
Bite Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25 Bite Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Crit Confirmation: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 Crit Bonus Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Whew, summoning really is a lot! Still, easier to manage in writing than at a table. GM, I'll send you images you can use if you want to make tokens for Calliope and the bird and assign them to me.

F CN Human (Tiefling) Brawler 1 // Witch 1 | HP 12/12 | AC 13 T 13 FF 10 | CMB +0 CMD 13 | F +4 R +5 W +1* | Init +7 Per +3 SM -1 | CE 1/1 scale 3/3 spells 1st-2/2 | effects/conditions enhanced diplomacy 10r, mage armor 600r

Shella moves forward in front of Horgus, circling to try and get behind the maggots so she can flank with the other heroic attackers.

Attack (unarmed strike), flanking, Power Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 2 - 1 = 12
Damage (bludgeoning), Power Attack: 1d6 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (4) - 1 + 2 = 5
Damage (bludgeoning, sneak attack): 1d6 ⇒ 4

With the help of Angahaar’s mighty blow, Naomi’s eagle, and Shella’s flanking, you manage to take down the maggots rather easily. Turns out the most dangerous part of them was the image of them bursting out of the spider.

Anevia laughs as the second one falls, unamused by the threat they posed.
”Well that was easier than I thought it could be.”

”Indeed.” Horgus agrees, slowly losing a bit of the shakiness he first showed upon the maggots’ arrival.

CG female changeling cleric // inquisitor of Shelyn 1 | HP 9/9 | AC 20, touch 12, flat-footed 19, CMD 9 | Init +3, Perception +8, Sense Motive +9

Naomi looks shaken but nods, starting to relax as it becomes clear that the violence has passed. Calliope returns to her side, while the eagle perches on a nearby boulder until it gradually fades in the same manner it appeared. Naomi turns to Shella and Angahaar with a little bit of awe.

"Truly impressive, both of you. Still, maybe we should try to get moving before anything else crawls out of this rubble? Something must have laid the eggs those maggots came from, after all."

F CN Human (Tiefling) Brawler 1 // Witch 1 | HP 12/12 | AC 13 T 13 FF 10 | CMB +0 CMD 13 | F +4 R +5 W +1* | Init +7 Per +3 SM -1 | CE 1/1 scale 3/3 spells 1st-2/2 | effects/conditions enhanced diplomacy 10r, mage armor 600r

Shella regards the corpses with a look of disgust, visibly contemplating what sort of creature would have laid these eggs. She shakes herself and nods. "We had better make ourselves scarce. Who knows what other horrors hide nearby, listening to us and plotting our demise?"

A soft buzzing sound comes from the large, bird-sized wasp hiding inside Shella's cloak. "Oh, where are my manners? This is my friend, who I call Mother. Say hello, Mother. Do not worry, I have not been infested!" She laughs merrily as she extends her palm with her familiar perched in the center, but the wasp crawls back up her arm and ducks back into her clothing.

Horgus has regained most of his cool, and takes the first bit of interest in leaving this cave seriously.
"I think we can all agree that we should move on, and quickly. Go on, the more adventurous of us, take the lead and show us where to go.

Anevia seems a bit weirded out at the mention of...'Mother', but does a sort of half wave to the wasp before it disappears.
"With that out of the way, should we get out of here?"

CG female changeling cleric // inquisitor of Shelyn 1 | HP 9/9 | AC 20, touch 12, flat-footed 19, CMD 9 | Init +3, Perception +8, Sense Motive +9

Naomi raises her eyebrows but smiles at the sight of the wasp. "Speaking of which, I don't think I've formally introduced Calliope, she's a good pal of mine. Calli, why don't you lead the way? That nose of yours should keep us aware of any more critters." Naomi points toward the far edge of the cave, where it looks like there might be an opening. Calliope starts toward it and Naom follows a bit behind, closer to the center of the group. She pauses to survey the space one last time, and as she does her eyes seem to shimmer. Activating her detect magic SLA before we go and concentrating on it while we walk.

Angahaar extends his arm to Aravashnial and says softly, ”The danger has passed. We must move.”

The elf takes Angahaar's hand gently, moving across the rubble on the floor slowly.
"Thank you, good sir. I appreciate the help."

There are two exits to the room, one north and one south on the east wall. Which shall you choose?

Hello! Welcome to the Worldwound, glad to have you. I've recently been playing the new Wrath game released by Owlcat Games, and it has renewed my interest in running the campaign on my own.

With that in mind, I also love gestalt, and I figured that would add a little bit more power fantasy to the game.

Character Creation Basics:
Level: Gestalt 1. If you aren't sure about any gestalt interactions or rules, feel free to ask me!
Ability Scores: 20 point buy, nothing below an 8 after racial adjustments.
Alignment: any, but I don't want a CE party wrecker character. If you're evil at all, have a good explanation for it.
Classes: any Paizo, minus Antipaladin.
Races: any and all Paizo are accepted, as the crusaders aren't picky.
Traits: two normal, and one Campaign, which must be from the Wrath of the Righteous Player's Guide.
Wealth: maximum for your highest of the two classes.

Background Questions:
These questions are just meant to help me and you flesh out your character. You can answer any or all of them, but the more you have the better it is for me.

1. What is your character’s name?
2. How old is your character?
3. What would somebody see at first glance (i.e. height, weight, skin color, eye color, hair color, physique, race, and visible equipment)?
4. What additional attributes would be noticed upon meeting the character (i.e. Speech, mannerisms)?
5. Where was your character born? Where were you raised? By who?
6. Who are your parents? Are they alive? What do they do for a living?
7. Do you have any other family or friends?
8. What is your character’s marital status? Kids?
9. What is your character’s alignment?
10. What is your character’s moral code?
11. Does your character have goals?
12. Is your character religious?
13. What are your character’s personal beliefs?
14. Does your character have any personality quirks (i.e. anti-social, arrogant, optimistic, paranoid)?
15. Why does your character adventure?
16. How does your character view his/her role as an adventurer?
17. Does your character have any distinguishing marks (birth-marks, scars, deformities)?
18. How does your character get along with others?
19. Is there anything that your character hates?
20. Is there anything that your character fears?

Beyond just this, you need to make sure you explain why your character is in Kenabres, and how much general knowledge they have of the area.

Slight content warning:
This is not really the game for the faint of heart. I will be playing up the brutality of a demon invasion, which will include a lot of violence. Don't worry, I'm not going to touch upon any of the particularly undesirable topics unless it's necessary. But, there will be a lot of blood and gore in descriptions of fights and scenery, as a demon invasion would bring. It just goes with the territory of the type of game I want to run.

Just wanted to be up front about the content that will exist in this game.

I'll be taking 3 players, and the recruitment will be open for roughly two weeks, ending on Saturday the 24th of September, or earlier if I get enough interest to make a decision earlier. I'll let you know ahead of time if I change the date.

I think I covered just about everything, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Interesting! I’ve got a dragonheir scion fighter/draconic bloodrager that was built for an almost identical game concept.

The general idea is a holy warrior descended from Terendelev.

Oh man, this is great. I'm thinking an elven Sorcerer/Magus, going Archmage. That's a concept I've had in mind for a while for just this sort of game.

Thoughts on Background Skills and/or feat tax rules?

Ah! Knew I forgot something. Yes to Background Skills. I'm not exactly sure what feat tax rules are, mind explaining it to me?

These right here are generally the standard feat tax rules. Basically, it's altering pre-reqs for combat feats and giving the combat option feats (i.e. power attack, deadly aim, combat expertise) for free.

I've been waiting for an AP to pop up, and Gestalt does make my multiclass much for feasible.

I'll be back with an Oradin healer build in a bit, someone to bring the power of friendship to the worldwound.

Simeon wrote:

I'm not entirely sure about the repercussions of those changes, so I'll reserve the right to implement those rules at a later date, if the three I pick want them.

Sounds good.

Awesome! I will be submitting a human swashbuckler/cleric of Cayden Cailean, going for Hierophant. I'll start working on him now.

GM of The Crusade:
Can my gestalt swashbuckler/cleric use the Divine Fighting Technique Cayden Cailean's Blade and Tankard?

I've been out of the market for a while, limiting myself only to dnd5 games...

... And to this. I've never managed to end an AP, and if I have to choose one, is this one.

Whatever I'm about to submit, it will probably have a big, big sword.

I am tentatively dotting, depending on how my other recruitments go. I am thinking of doing a Unchained Monk (Scaled Fist)/Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer. I'm considering either Riftwarden Orphan or Stolen Fury, we'll see what fits the background the best.

Ok, this is Ouachitonian's submission. Lysander is a Magus (Bladebound/Kensai)/Sorcerer(Wildblooded) of the Sage bloodline. He'll mostly play like a Magus, I fully intend to take the Broad Study arcana and use Sorcerer spells to fuel Spellstrike. But he does still get full 9th level Sorcerer casting, and can handle most (if not all) of the party's arcane casting needs with judicious spell selection. He's also got a fair number of skills, because as a Sage-bloodline, he's got big Intelligence. He's building toward the Archmage mythic path. I might take the Riftwarden prestige class. It works with his background, but it's also not great for a sorcerer; you lose three levels of spellcasting, which means I'll never actually et 9th level spells. But it is very flavorful and has some neat tricks that would be useful here.

Questions and Answers:

1. What is your character’s name?
Lysander

2. How old is your character?
134

3. What would somebody see at first glance (i.e. height, weight, skin color, eye color, hair color, physique, race, and visible equipment)?
Lysander is unusually tall and thin even for an elf, about 6'5", 135 lbs. He has coal-black hair and unusually pale skin, and has been said to look like the negative image of a drow. He wears silk robes, and always carries an elven thornblade many of a strange, shiny black metal.

4. What additional attributes would be noticed upon meeting the character (i.e. Speech, mannerisms)?
He is fairly quiet, and often spends his free time reading; even if he is away from home he's probably got a book with him. Conversations on esoteric topics will get his attention, though; he's well read on a host of matters but always interested in learning more.

5. Where was your character born? Where were you raised? By who?
He was born in Kenabres, to Riftwarden parents. They disappeared before he was old enough to remember, and he was raised by his uncle Aravashnial. He has spent some time here and there in Kyonin, his parents' ancestral home.

6. Who are your parents? Are they alive? What do they do for a living?
His parents are dead. They were elven Riftwardens from Kyonin.

7. Do you have any other family or friends?
He was raised by his uncle Aravashnial, and has some other family, mostly in Kyonin. He hasn't seen any of them except Aravashnial since he was last there over a decade ago, training to fight demons. He is well-acquainted with all of the Riftwardens who operate out of Kenabres, but he would call only a few of them his friends.

8. What is your character’s marital status? Kids?
He is single, and so far as he knows has no children, though he has had the occasional dalliance, so you never know.

9. What is your character’s alignment?
Chaotic Good

10. What is your character’s moral code?
He doesn't really have one, formally. But living in Kenabres, having visited the edge of Tanglebriar, and being raised by a Riftwarden, he strongly opposes evil wherever he finds it.

11. Does your character have goals?
Yes. He would like to do what he can to push back the demons of the Worldwound. While he doesn't dream of ever closing the rift, he would at least like to shrink their area of control on Golarion.

12. Is your character religious?
Yes. He worships Yuelral, the elven goddess of Magic.

13. What are your character’s personal beliefs?
See #10.

14. Does your character have any personality quirks (i.e. anti-social, arrogant, optimistic, paranoid)?
Anti-social is too strong a term, but he isn't always the most personable. Some of that comes from a combination of elven arrogance and a dearth of experience with non-elves. He's certainly met non-elves, and even become friends with some, but he can't shake the feeling that the short-lived races just don't live up to his own people.

15. Why does your character adventure?
He hopes to one day learn more about what happened to his parents, and do what he can to diminish the influence of demons on Golarion.

16. How does your character view his/her role as an adventurer?
Mostly he does magic. Sure, he can swing a sword better than most mages, but he knows he's still mostly a mage.

17. Does your character have any distinguishing marks (birth-marks, scars, deformities)?
He has a birthmark in the shape of the Sign of the Seeker’s Spiral rune.

18. How does your character get along with others?
He's fairly introverted, but as long as they're not evil or bullies and don't pester him, he's fine. Mostly he sits off to the side and reads a book until the discussion gets interesting, at which time he'll contribute.

19. Is there anything that your character hates?
Evil in general and Demons of Blackfire Adepts in particular.

20. Is there anything that your character fears?
The expansion of the Worldwound or Tanglebriar, mostly. Also disappearing and leaving an infant child behind as his parents did. That fear has kept him from committing to any long-term relationships.

I'm also a big fan of the Feat Tax rules. They give you the basic feats you'd have to take, and free up slots for more flavorful things. In Lysander's case, I'd have loved to take Breadth of Experience, but I just couldn't justify skipping Weapon Finesse on a dex-based melee character. Adopting the Feat Tax system would give me WF for free, and let me take BoE and play up my character's "I'm a hundred and thirty years old, and have read all the way through several libraries. Of course I know a thing or two about [insert topic]." elven snootiness. lol

I should also note that I've played a paladin in this AP before, but only up to early Book 2.

I have an idea for a Bloodrager/Paladin that I'm gonna whip up.

I also love the new game, I'll get something up and running ASAP!

Questions:

1. What is your character’s name? Angahaar
2. How old is your character? 22
3. What would somebody see at first glance (i.e. height, weight, skin color, eye color, hair color, physique, race, and visible equipment)? His stark white hair and the patches of silvery scales on his neck, arms, and chest.
4. What additional attributes would be noticed upon meeting the character (i.e. Speech, mannerisms)? Angahaar’s manner of speaking is somewhat aristocratic, but it seems as if he makes a concerted effort to connect to common people.
5. Where was your character born? Where were you raised? By who? Angahaar is born and raised in Kenabres, born into a family of crusaders descended from the silver dragon Terendelev. He was raised by his extended family and their staff of servants.
6. Who are your parents? Are they alive? What do they do for a living? His mother is one of the Scions of Terendelev, and his father was a crusader she served alongside and eventually fell in love with. They are both alive, and live off the largesse of the descendents of Terendelev when not on campaign.
7. Do you have any other family or friends? Angahaar is particularly close to his uncle Argixaran, the man who taught him to fight with a greatsword, and two of his cousins, Evrindaras and Axilos, who he’s trained with since they were born. In terms of friends, he’s also close to a pair of Kellid brothers, Brusk and Urgun, who he’s frequently helped to get out of jams.
8. What is your character’s marital status? Kids? Angahaar is single, and has no children that he knows of.
9. What is your character’s alignment? He’s lawful good, though with a stronger emphasis on good than law.
10. What is your character’s moral code? Angahaar with all his being that evil must be destroyed and good must be protected. Evil should be given the chance to repent, but if refused, it must be destroyed.
11. Does your character have goals? He wants to follow in the footsteps of generations of Scions of Terendelev before him. The crusader spirit of his family is strong in him, and he will do whatever he can to follow the example of his family and his draconic forebear.
12. Is your character religious? Yes, deeply. Angahaar is a devout worshipper of Apsu, the god of all good dragons.
13. What are your character’s personal beliefs? His beliefs are influenced by his membership in the crusade’s ranks and his faith in Apsu. He also believes that he must protect Kenabras with his all.
14. Does your character have any personality quirks (i.e. anti-social, arrogant, optimistic, paranoid)? The classic draconic pride is very much a part of Angahaar’s personality, though not out of any malice. Rather, he believes that he is better equipped than most other mortals to fight against evil, and as such it is his duty to protect those who cannot protect themselves and combat those whose abuses go unchecked.
15. Why does your character adventure? Much like his goals, he wants to follow in the example of his forebears and Terendelev herself.
16. How does your character view his/her role as an adventurer? Angahaar knows that he is a warrior, and in matters of stealth and knowledge he is woefully unprepared to face the forces of the Abyss. His skill with arms, however, is significant, and he seeks to give that to whoever he may end up travelling with.
17. Does your character have any distinguishing marks (birth-marks, scars, deformities)? As mentioned before, the silvery scales on his body show his draconic ancestry.
18. How does your character get along with others? Angahaar does his best to get along well with anyone he meets. This sentiment has lead to him being well-liked by many citizens of Kenabres for his charitable nature and desire to help.
19. Is there anything that your character hates? Angahaar hates evil and cruelty. Apsu teaches his warriors that they are the talons of Apsu’s wrath, and he metes out destruction to those who his god teaches him are to be destroyed.
20. Is there anything that your character fears? Above all else, he fears that he will fail. He has a monumentally high example to live up to, and his anxieties that he will not be good enough for his family, his god, and Terendelev keep him up many a night.

Background:

Angahaar, scion of Terendelev, was always destined for great things. He came from a long line of crusading warriors, the blood of the mighty silver dragon Terendelev strong in their veins, marking them as something of crusader nobility. Angahaar always knew it was his fate to take up the family legacy, to drive back the demons that their draconic forebear had sworn herself an enemy of. He was trained from a young age to be the best of the best, and Angahaar lived up to his family’s expectations. He excelled in combat, philosophy, and the theology of Apsu, the patron deity of Terendelev and their family by extension. He had little choice in his life, but he was happy with it. In what free time he had he devoted it to the people of Kenabres, using his family’s largesse to help the less fortunate. The less righteous in his family frowned upon it, but Angahaar cared little.

He was 16 when his first expedition into the demon-scarred wasteland of the Worldwound came, commemorated by a gift of a breastplate and greatsword, the preferred armaments of the scions of Terendelev.

They struck out into the wastes, blades bright and tempers hot. It was a simple journey, more to give Angahaar and his two favorite cousins experience with truly fighting demons. In a forgotten crypt they stumbled across a lair of demon cultists, worshippers of one of the countless demigods of that foul species. Angahaar lead the charge, full of righteous fury. He cut his way through the cultists, his draconic blood giving him overwhelming strength, wickedly sharp claws, and an emboldening presence, all echoes of Terendelev’s power. Together, the four of them destroyed the cult lair, emerging victorious.

Angahaar knew then that he would take the fight to the demons. Some of his kin were content to hide behind the walls of Kenabres, but he was not. He knew Terendelev would be at Armasse, and there he would formally seek her blessing to join the crusade.

Appearance and Personality:

Angahaar is a tall, handsome human man with icy blue eyes and vibrant white hair. His facial features are strong and regal, and small patches of silver scales cover his arms, chest, and neck. He carries with him a greatsword and breastplate. He also wears a silver holy symbol of Apsu around his neck, both a reflection of his faith and a connection to his heritage.

Angahaar is a beacon of righteousness in a land so desperately devoid of it. He is kind to the innocent, always ready to help someone in need. To the wicked, he has no such compulsion to help. If they are willing to repent, he will spare them and let those with more patience for rehabilitation take over. If they are unrepentant, he will try to destroy them, no matter the odds. He takes it upon himself to face down danger and evil, whatever and wherever that may be. When one doesn’t consider matters of philosophy, Angahaar is confident and self-assured. When not consumed with righteous anger, he can be surprisingly tender with those he cares about, even expressing some doubts in his ability to complete his ultimate mission of defeating evil and living up to his forebear’s example. He feels a deep need to give what he can to those who have less. While he loves bringing death to the wicked, he would rather ensure that the lives of the good and innocent are directly improved by his actions.

GM of the Crusade:
I have a player I've tried playing and haven't been able to get past level 1 in a PBP. She uses a Prestige class from 3.5, as it is the one that fits her flavor better than any other option. It is the Ultimate Magus. A PF conversion can be found here. I understand if that isn't allowed, but I would rather ask than not. :D Her build is intended to be Sorcerer Cross-blooded/Wild-blooded Arcane/Sage 1/Wizard 3/ Ultimate Mage (the Ultimate magus prestige class). This is her having magic naturally, then studying wizardry to learn to "control and harness" the dangerous power, before learning how to push her natural abilities with the teachings, and how to bend the rules of the teachings with her natural abilities.

Questions for Ceilidh:

1. What is your character’s name? Ceilidh Blackwood
2. How old is your character? 27
3. What would somebody see at first glance (i.e. height, weight, skin color, eye color, hair color, physique, race, and visible equipment)? This is her portrait, and this is her arcane tattoo. She has a nose ring (small hoop) in her left nostril and is lightly freckled.
4. What additional attributes would be noticed upon meeting the character (i.e. Speech, mannerisms)? She is impetuous and would be this world's version of a Social Justice Warrior. She likes cigars and whisky. She is outgoing but uses that as a defense to control how close people get to her...and how far at arm's length she keeps them.
5. Where was your character born? Where were you raised? By who? Nerosyan, Mendev. She was raised there by her parents until she fled towards the world wound, intent on "protecting" her parents and using her curse against the world wound.
6. Who are your parents? Are they alive? What do they do for a living? Up to the DM. I usually have it as a secret from my character that they are dead, potentially caused by one of her magical surges.
7. Do you have any other family or friends? She has an estranged twin sister named Korihor. She is unaware her parents have died. (Or haven't, up to the DM).
8. What is your character’s marital status? Kids? Single. No kids. Doesn't trust herself to do that, doesn't want to hurt anyone, or pass on her magical "malady".
9. What is your character’s alignment? NG
10. What is your character’s moral code? "I don't need a reason to help people."
11. Does your character have goals? wants to figure out why her tree tattoo began to develop...and what it means.
12. Is your character religious? Not at all.
13. What are your character’s personal beliefs? See below
14. Does your character have any personality quirks (i.e. anti-social, arrogant, optimistic, paranoid)? See below
15. Why does your character adventure? It is a bit of suicide by cop, where the cop is a slobbering Glabrezu or some other horrid thing.
16. How does your character view his/her role as an adventurer? Better me than someone else. I'm expendable.
17. Does your character have any distinguishing marks (birthmarks, scars, deformities)? See below
18. How does your character get along with others? Suprisingly well. She's friendly and helpful if challenging and fearless in regards to herself...but she is always afraid others around her will be hurt.
19. Is there anything that your character hates? Someone not being listened to, inequality, and flippant use of someone's power of any kind.
20. Is there anything that your character fears? That she is hurting others simply by living.

Ceilidh is very against inequality. She has been an outcast, and homeless, for good portions of her life, so she feels for the underdog, the marginalized. But she feels she's been "accused" of attacks against people and places, with her magic. She worries she's a bit of an unintended terrorist. So she has latched onto a few incidences she's read about that involved real terrorists...elves. Because of her frustration over her own situation, she tends to read the worst in elves and comes across as mildly racist.

She's brilliant, but a bit of an alcoholic. She can't sleep without a drink. She loves a good cigar but will complain about someone tracking in dirt, or not washing their face. Calculating and thoughtful in her planning, she often doesn't think about what she is going to say before she says it in conversation.

Ceilidh is a hard woman to love. She's brilliant and believes she is on a mission to civilize the world, one person at a time. She believes that society is doomed because of the way people treat each other, and the way the species treat each other. She believes that there is a problem with the rich crushing the poor, even though she doesn't believe that there is something inherently wrong with being rich.

She distrusts magic, feeling it is only abused, and dislikes religion, feeling it is a big con. The conundrum of her life lies in the fact that she seems to seep magic from every pore. She would prefer to just read a book, cook an extravagant meal, enjoy an expensive scotch and cigar, and live out her life in a warm place overlooking the sea.

Calculating and thoughtful in her planning, she often doesn't think about what she is going to say before she says it in conversation. She believes in the best of mankind, but also believes that most people are idiots; sheep, with no willpower, to make an informed choice for themselves, bent on treating each other poorly simply for a lack of understanding, or because they want a cookie. They lack true power, so therefore hurt everyone around them simply to act powerful, or to take power. She feels she is truly powerful...and that scares her. She feels alone as if no one could understand.

She was born to the north of Nerosyan, Mendev, in the small village of Little Mingin, a dirty fishing village just south of the West Sellen River. Her family sent her away to school in Korvosa because "weird things always happened around her", the final straw is when she gave the mayor's daughter's a purple beard.

At fifteen her tattoo appeared, growing steadily down her back. She was afraid it was a disease or infection of some sort. Her fears, it seems to her, were confirmed. She is infected with magical energy. It took the form of a slowly growing upside-down tree, made of thousands of tiny arcane symbols, one by one appearing on her skin, bleeding down her back, slowly over the years. Every time something strange happened around her, the tattoo grew a little more.

At the age of 21, she awoke in an inn she was staying at in the city of Magnimar in Varisia while working as a freelance researcher for Venture-Captain Obo...or what remained of the inn. Her bed alone stood unharmed, on an untouched rise in a crater where the 'Three Barmaids' once stood. She believes she destroyed it with her magic. That was when her Mark changed from a tiny shoot to a small sapling on her back.

She wants nothing more than to control this magic, so it can't hurt anyone else. She can't let this thing inside her destroy everything around her.

Unbeknownst to her, her family's home was destroyed in the same fashion, at that same moment, back in Little Mingin.

Fleeing, she headed east, with no real destination, but definitely in the direction of home, the last place she wanted to be, but the only place it felt right to go to. Over the next year, driven by fear of hurting anyone, she made her way to The Worldwound, where the amount of alcohol they served seemed to match her thirst well.

She is a human, and rumor had it her grandmother was a tiefling, as she is from Cheliax, but she honestly considers herself human (no matter what those kids said). She cannot stand racism, and will quickly lose her cool if she sees it in practice, despite her own racist reactions to elves (those are justified, of course.)

She is not a hero and has done nothing she considers special.

Ceilidh wants to figure out why her tree tattoo began to develop... and what it means.

Aside from that, she is really wanting to learn how to cook rice the way they did in Manaket. It was like little pillows of air. That, and the perfect scotch. She hears rumors that there is a scotch from the Worldwound that has stopped the battle there, simply so demons and Paladins could share it. She wants several bottles of that.

This looks like I could finally find a home for my Chavazvug, the one Qlippoth lord who hates demons more than he hates mortals, worshipping crusader, though the worship is purely as a method to achieve her own goals. Chavazvug doesn't care.

My character would be a disillusioned crusader who is convinced the current methods used by the crusade don't work. To her the current crusaders are too 'nice'. Simply put, she wants to end the demonic invasion by any means necessary and if that means sacrificing a hundred innocents/crusaders, so be it. If you'd ask her she'd say that the good guys also do that by sending them into unwinnable battles, they just dress it all up in lies. Despite being scorned and ostracized by most crusaders (she has avoided the hardliners so far) she does consider herself to be their best ally.
As for why she's evil, it's because she is convinced it is what is needed to finally get things done, not because she likes it. The end justifies all means. This also means that she could veer from her current path if shown another path that is at least as effective as her current one.

Silver Crusade

dotting in. I've so many ideas...

Silver Crusade

So, I've narrowed it down to two general ideas-

A barbarian/fighter/cleric, a Kellid, whos tribe originates from the worldwound. The very same that had dealings with a specific someone. He, as is tradition of his tribe, was sent to aid in the crusades.

I'd ask to not have him worship a particular deity, and I'd discuss domain selections with you.

The other idea is a mindblade magus/fighter or alchemist.

Gestalt is always a blast. It looks like there is already a plethora of charisma-focused ideas, so I'll lean more in the wisdom direction.

I'm leaning towards an unchained monk with either druid or inquisitor as the casting class. Druid has a lot of flavorful connection to the campaign since Sarkoris was the former home of the Green Faith. A crusader focused on recapturing the old homeland would be a lot of fun to explore.

Hierophant makes a lot of sense for the casting side, but Guardian would also be interesting. I'll play around with this.

Dark Archive

Dotting in.

As a Planescape fan, I've always wanted to bring a bit of the Blood War to this AP - my "main" 1E PFS character (a Chelaxian Oracle/Hellknight Signifer/Diabolist) was built during the WotR tie-in season to this end and it always irked me a bit that there wasn't much in the way of support for me calling in a legion of Hellknights and/or summoned devils to march upon the Worldwound. Suffice it to say, I'd like to give that another shot here, though obviously it depends on the party as a whole whether that will work.

Need to sit and think for a while how I'd like to build the character, and knowing my character creation process, it's probably going to be a while before I pull it together.

Don't feel disinclined to build an evil-leaning character because of other people going strongly into the good side. Tensions between good and evil party members, if done correctly, can be extremely enriching and encourage good roleplay moments.

I'll do my best to not pick directly opposing factions, but don't think I'll pick three goody two shoes or two evil mustache-twirling villains. There will likely be a mix of both, assuming people submit enough of either side.

Dark Archive

Oh, to be sure. Part of the reason I like playing evil (or evil-adjacent) characters is precisely for that dynamic.

My "depends on the party" comment was mostly in regards to a "we have a paladin who literally CAN'T associate/work with your character" type situation.

Dotting in.

Send you a concept in a PM.

In one sentence, Power Metal Frontman Bardbarian.

Expect Headbanging, Booze, Chaos, Fun and shenangians.

I have a sheet for Elwing, Aasimar Paladin/Oracle. I'll have the fluff up in the next day or so, but I figured I'd put up the mechanics and see what works.

I stuck to the Archives of Nethys for content, but let me know if you want particular citations or anything changed.

Many melee builds, uh? Let's make a ranged! Warpriest/something!

This is my submission. Let me know if there's anything else you need or any questions or anything.

Questions:

1. What is your character’s name? My crusader cross says “Gadlan O’Laughlin.” Gods, I hope that’s me.
2. How old is your character? I’m 36.
3. What would somebody see at first glance? I stood at 6’1'' and weighed in at 165lbs at my last measurement. I do my best to keep my platinum hair tied in the back but it usually finds a way to get loose when I find myself in a fight.
4. What additional attributes would be noticed upon meeting the character? Most of my life I’ve had to deal with people pointing out that my skin glows. Not much, but enough that most people can notice it if they look.
5. Where was your character born? Where were you raised? By who? I was born in the city of Hajoth Hakados in Numeria. My mother believed that the angelic blood in that courses through my veins came from her own grandfather. A man that her grandmother always claimed was an angel on his way to aid in the First Mendevian Crusade. My father, well, my father simply believed that my mother was a whore. He believed it right up until his death.
6. Who are your parents? Are they alive? What do they do for a living? My father was a merchant on a small scale. Get it? Well anyway, he was a merchant in Hajoth and made a decent living selling second-hand goods. My mother was too young to have been burdened with a child, let alone three. I miss her every day and I pray that my kid brother is taking care of her and the shop.
7. Do you have any other family or friends? My brother, Rylan O’Laughlin, takes care of our mother and the family shop. As far as friends go, well...we’ll see.
8. What is your character’s marital status? I had hoped to marry. She, well, she wanted someone that could promise to be by her side at all times. I can’t be that man.
10. What is your character’s moral code? Spread the order of law wherever I go, so long as the law is just; do not serve as a tool for tyranny. Fight vigilantly the servants of chaos.
11. Does your character have goals? If I can save one innocent from the demonic horde, I will have been successful. If I can save many, I will be happy.
12. Is your character religious? I don’t know if “religious” is the right word. I follow the example of The Just Arbiter so, I suppose so. Olheon teaches us to be strong when asked to lead. To treat those who look to us for guidance with respect and kindness.
13. What are your character’s personal beliefs? All it takes is a great leader to unite people under one cause in order to change the world. The best leaders aren’t always the obvious choice. Abuse of power over another is one of the worst offenses.
14. Does your character have any personality quirks? I heard some of the other new arrivals in Kenabres are getting together tonight for drinks and dice. I’ll need to find time to swing by...
15. Why does your character adventure? As tempting as it was to stay in Hajoth, something about living and dying in the city where your father tried to use you in an evil sacrifice just isn’t appealing. At least, not to me.
16. How does your character view his/her role as an adventurer? I think it was bound to be how I lived my life. Few, if any, aasimar get to grow old taking care of the ancestral orchard.
17. Does your character have any distinguishing marks? I have a few scars on my abdomen that my father and his cultist buddies left behind.
18. How does your character get along with others? I think most people see me coming and think I’m going to shove my way through the crowd or maybe start a bar fight over an offhand comment. But I’d much rather share a drink with you and tell some jokes at the expense of Nidalese.
[b19. Is there anything that your character hates?[/b] Abuse of power for personal gain.
20. Is there anything that your character fears? What if the ritual worked and something has just been biding its time to claw its way out of me?

I think a revision of Aerianna Flametongue may make it in as an application.

Wow mythic and gestalt, bound to be a crowd pleaser but would be hard not to make something truly disgusting :) I assume the minions of hell grow stronger...

Silver Crusade

I'm in dubio, on one hand, already in a WOTR that just started. On the other hand, Gestalt Mythic is hard to resist.

Hm. I had a concept for a while on a monk/shaman gestalt that used the monk's unarmed strike along with the Hex Strike feat to deliver the shaman's debuff hexes through unarmed attacks. Maybe that would make a fun and original gestalt build.

Nice reference! Love the Diablo games.

As it is PF1 and gestalt and mythic, what power level are you looking for/not looking for?

Seeing as how I have decided to only take three players, I will be aiming for each PC to be relatively powerful in their own right. But I will adjust encounters as needed if the feeling of difficulty is a bit off either way.

So as far as guidelines go, don't go so far as to be able to solo things way above your level, but also don't make your character extremely weak either, as it will be a tough experience.
Around a 7-9 I'd guess.

I've always felt that Norgorber should have a presence in the Wrath of the Righteous story. It feels too big of an event to leave things alone. I will be brainstorming a 'hand' of Norgorber.

This looks super fun! I've got an idea for a changeling master summoner // evangelist cleric of Shelyn to fill a support and face role on top of the whole celestial summoning thing, probably aiming for marshal. I'll see what I can get put together!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

GM of the Crusade, are you wanting us to build these characters before you choose who is playing?

Wow ... I could be totally down to make the ranged character.

Could finally build the Mindsword I have been wanting to play AND gestalt him as a kineticist.

Q: I will look in a minute, but is there a way to do this in HeroLab?

7-9 sounds reasonable for a Bardbarian. Now, the Bard aspect is kind of reduced as there are less party members to benefit from performances, but its still a lot of utility and skill monkeyness, coupled with pretty reasonable DPS and tankiness.

I definitly need to look up the bard spell list a bit more.

Yeah, go ahead and build the first level version of the character you want to submit.

A character concept and path can only do so much work on explaining who your character is and what their build will look like/.

Great, will do so other the weekend.

I think I'll try and cover the arcane casting route, most people haven't expressed an interest in it, and I've always liked double dipping Sorcerer+Wizard in gestalt, even if it isn't really optimal

Silver Crusade

I've decided. The build will be something like-
Barbarian 2/fighter X/Cleric 20 Or something to that tune, Domains I'm looking at are Travel(definite)/Liberation/good/Luck.

1. Arrack the (usually) Gentle Giant
2. early 20s
3. Incredible height (above 6'3") muscled, shoulder black hair (40/60) mixed Kellid blood, wields an incredibly large blade. On his belt is a sketch book.

4. His speech is highly refined for his appearance. He has a very calm demeanor and is fairly cheerful, if a bit quiet and contemplative most of the time.

5.

6. A peasant woman and a "disgraced" Kellid warrior turned farmer. As common as most come.

7. A sister and a little brother. He had a close friend several years his senior. He left to join the crusades. He didn't return, and no word has been heard from him in over a year.

8. Single, It is unlikely he has children as he can count the number of sexual encounters he has had on one hand.

9. Neutral Good with chaotic good tendencies.

10. He holds himself to his word, and a promise once given will be completed, even should it cost him his life. Do what is right and good, always remember why you fight, and do not become what you fight. You fight to protect, to keep the joy of life and the freedom of others.

11. Yes, he wants to become a powerful crusader to defend and heal those that cannont fend for themselves. He seeks to be a bulwark, of course he dreams of singlehandedly retaking the entirety of the world wound himself. But even he knows that is foolishness. He does however, strive to bring comfort and joy to as many people as he can, and defend what is good in this world.

12. Yes, he follows three deities, Desna, Cayden Cailean, and Shelyn. Though primarily focuses on the latter two.

13. He believes that life is precious, that beauty and simple joys are what separate us from creatures like the demons. The ability to sit together at a table, to enjoy each others company, and bask in the beauty the world has to offer. Live life to the fullest, and bring others up with you as you do.

14. He is optimistic, cheerful, and a little shy.

15. He doesn't adventure persay, he seeks to join the crusades, and he wants to join so that others need not have to. He also had a bit of wander lust. If the crusades ever end, he hopes to travel the world, and see the wonderful sights and places that were protected by so much sacrifice.

16. He is a protector and a healer. He is physically strong, and has been gifted his first divine powers from the gods despite little formal training. He sees his gifts as reason enough to defend others. His father also taught him how to wield a variety of weapons.

17. He has one, its a birthmark from the kellid line of Sarkois, though few would likely recognize or know that. Even he and his father are unaware of that knowledge.

18. As long as they aren't harming others or seeking to, he gets a long with most anyone, even some of the more self absorbed noble pricks. Giving a sigh and smile at their narcissistic antics.

19. Demons, and those that ally themselves with demons. He does not understand them, and the mere thought that people would so willingly turn against each other sets his blood boiling.

20. He fears loosing control of himself again. He has that fierce Kellid anger in his blood, and when he was a boy, no more than 12, he nearly killed another lad. The boy, Dart, had constantly poked fun at Arrac, Arrac attempted to keep the anger in, creating a boiling pot, then one day finally pushed him too far with a prank. Arrac's anger boiled over. He remembers little, save being pulled off the boy whos face was smashed and cut. The boy never bothered Arrac again, but to this day his nose is horribly bent from the beating.

I think I'll try and cover the arcane casting route, most people haven't expressed an interest in it, and I've always liked double dipping Sorcerer+Wizard in gestalt, even if it isn't really optimal

Just go Sage Sorcerer and you're set haha.

or, go for draconic sorcerer/monk-> dragon disciple -> Eldritch Knight on the non wizard side. Use them purely for buff spells ;)

This is Jereru's alias.

Still buying equipment and answering questions.

Will probably go for the Trickster, although ranged Champion is also possible.

So there were thematic notes about the violence level & reality, how "adult" of a rating will the campaign run? I had an amazing concept come to me, but it's for sure R-rated ...

Happy to submit something more mundane too :)

feel free to submit the R rated one to my pm's on here, to be sure it's okay and in line with what I have in mind, I would love to take a look at it.

In general, the level of and content of maturity I am aiming to use/discuss is mostly aimed at the violence of battle and demon actions. I can't say there won't be themes of other R rated things, just have to make sure that everyone is prepared for the violence that comes along with a demon invasion.

Here is a rough first-level build for Ceilidh.

Ceilidh:

Are you using Unchained classes? Background skills? And I wanted to check on that Prestige class I asked about, as without it this character concept deflates quite a bit. lol. Currently, she is a sorcerer monk, and her second level would likely go wizard/Magus, and back and forth, with Ultimate magus eventually replacing wizard or sorcerer.

She is intended to be a martial character with no armor and one weapon, but brimming with magic.

@Gm of the Crusades , so, uh, I actually had an idea for a second character. Is it alright if I submit two? Not to play both of course.
