I mean, you're obviously less likeable than I am but I think most humans would think me uglier than you...

I appreciate it. No one likes to be the ugliest in a room.

Boga |

we're like one room away and Johann has a sunrod tied to his head... it shouldn't be too hard to spot us
I had in my head that you were farther away. Thanks for pointing it out. I've updated with another post.

I feel like this is the coolest campaign setting I’ve ever used, and it’s just the real world with all its myths and magic made true lol...
The best part is the immersion and context... I save so much time and work describing history and geography I’d have to explain if this was a home brew fantasy setting. Everyone who comes to this setting already has a wealth of knowledge and frame of reference to draw on for RP... this can also keep me more on my toes as there will always be some area a player knows more about than I do! Lol... my solution is to let it be so, draw on the knowledge of the players, and let this be a shared setting we cooperatively build together, resulting in something far better than a lone GM could make up.

Ah, Rapunzel, I just have an inkling that you are thinking about me today...
I'm loving this side story of the bad boy Rump.
Never liked that rich arrogant prick.

Zagathoth |

That's one of the nice things about PbP, imo- in a table top game the GM acting out both sides of a conversation that the PCs aren't anywhere near would be kind of weird but here it makes sense.

Boga |

To be on the same page regarding Boga's background...
I should have spoken up about this earlier, but I was trying to get the character up and running. I had intended Boga to be an ardent supporter of the Bohemian Reformation. Perhaps working together, in this case, against a common enemy while seeking some sort of resolution to the theological differences. The idea being that Boga came to Rome in good faith to help bridge the gap.
I understand if that will not work in this setting, but it would be my preferred option. If it is not really possible, then a reformed heretic is probably the way to go. In that scenario, would Jan Hus' hand still be able to function as a relic / holy symbol?

Michael Johnson 66 |

You can play him as an ardent follower of Jan Hus, come to help the pope in good faith, but from the pope’s POV, he’s sparing the life and soul of a heretic by giving him “penance”... I say you play him as you want and I’ll play the Catholic Church’s reaction to your PC... I see Eugenius being startled and confused by the obviously holy power this “heretic” commands in God’s name, and reluctant to make a dire mistake by excommunicating and executing him, so he puts him to a classic trial by ordeal... if he survives, then it’s God’s will...

Boga |

Excellent idea! I like the dual interpretations of the same set of events. I can definitely work with that. Thanks.
And if he survives, it strengthens his case for some sort of reconciliation or allowance. Should be fun

Exactly! Your adventures might inspire the pope to relent and accept the Bohemian Reformation as a sister church. Your PCs can literally change history lol...

Luckily we share German... Lucius speaks almost every language except English (which makes translation very confusing!)

Boga |

Lucius has the Heresy Inquisition... so this could get very interesting... Are you open (OOC for future IC) to being returned to the One True Faith? :)
Hmmm... He would be very open to discussion, but an actual return? That would be unlikely by words alone. That would require some sort of heavenly, experiential intervention.
Boga is hoping for some kind of agreement between the Hussites and the Roman Catholics. Ideally, he'd go for the acceptance of the Compactata, but recognizing the unlikelihood of that, he'd go for something incremental like using texts in common languages instead of Latin. He is interested in anything that makes the Church more for the people and less for the Church, itself. He thinks that the Church has become too much its own cause.
He is not a fan of the current division. He very much wants unity, just with a slight course correction.

Boga |

Much of the reason he is so ardent is that he witnessed Jan Hus' execution. He, with his own eyes, saw a hag boost the fire when it looked like it would fail to catch. He later found Jan Hus' hand unburned in the ashes. He truly believes that Jan Hus' cause, in its fundamentals, is correct, sanctioned, even desired by God. In saying that, it does not mean that he actually favors one church over the other. He simply wants the principles implemented, for that is what he believes to be the will of God.

Michael Johnson 66 |

Meta game, I will say that God in my fantasy Earth agrees with Boga’s assessment that Reformation of what the Catholic Church has become is necessary. It is His will that the Reformation should happen, so it did. He still loves and guides the Roman Catholic Church, but He also loves and guides the Eastern Orthodox and Bohemian Reformed Churches as well... He will grant clerical powers to the Anglican Protestants when Henry VIII forms the Church of England... He is an includive Christian God, not an exclusive one... but His mortal followers will still kill each other over trifles lol...

Boga |

Regarding marching order, I am going to make the obvious suggestion of being towards the back. Other than that, I don't have a preference.
FYI, Boga is carrying a medium load, which, I believe, drops his speed back to 30. He also has a halo, which functions as a light spell. In other words, he, too, has a light on top of his head! It's a new thing. I hear all the Romans are doing it.

The Heresy Inquisition makes Lucius good at finding heretics but not at punishing them... yet!
You have until level 8 to convince him Boga! :)

The organetto of sounding is worth 1,800 gp. To keep things even and fair, if Toshio/Ogon Fox is going to keep it as personal gear, it should count as 1,800 gp worth of his share of party treasure. Obviously, the party hasn’t found nearly enough treasure at this point for anyone to have a share that valuable, so think of this as an “advance on your paycheck”, Toshio/Ogon Fox ;-)

Tracking loot like that is a pain. I know some groups like to do it, but I am fine with "whoever can use it, takes it" method, and then always splitting the gold evenly. And if you feel like you have gotten a lot recently, then don't try to claim something that someone else could benefit from. The honor system...
Unless someone has the energy to start a loot tracker spreadsheet.

I will be ultimately tracking the overall treasure I give out, and will try to make sure it can be pretty evenly divided for the most part... but I agree with your assessment, Johann.... Whoever will put a item to its best use on behalf of the party should get it, and otherwise split loot evenly seems like a fair plan...

For encountering the ghost of St Cecilia, and receiving her gift for Ogon Fox, and lighting the orange key crystal, I’m awarding the party 4,800 XP, or 685 XP each. This brings each PC to 1,425 XP, enough to advance to 2nd level! Congratulations!
You may gain the new level immediately, but cannot prepare new spells until after 8 hours of rest, if you are a spellcaster.

LEVEL 2. Awesome! I told you guy we should go this way, and no one listened.

![]() |

Johann gets a bunch of little things... AC bonus based on wisdom (which isn't great but hopefully I eventually get a wisdom item), better tracking, minor bear aspect still only gives +2 constitution but now that gives me 2 HP. My HP is pretty good at 26; boosted to 28
My biggest boost is just from realizing I was doing natural attacks wrong. Both bites and claw are primary attacks, which means they don't get attack penalties and get full strength bonus on damage. Whoops. I don't think it would have mattered on the last battle, since my rolls were horrible anyway.

Arc Perdu le Rouge |

I picked up a couple of damaging spells and Spellstrike. Also, I finally have a BAB! Happy days are here again.

Zagathoth |

Huzzah!
I'm updated to level 2. I took combat expertise for my bonus feat... I'll never use it but it opens a ton of options for martial flexibility.
