Okay, apologies to the Sisters of Shelyn, who I was going to run a scenario for. The impending demise of the Scarab Sages has put that plan on hold temporarily. Being all such nice lasses, I'm sure they won't mind - too much.
So, to do my bit for the poor sages who want to get some gametime before their faction vanishes I'm going to run a set of scenarios for them. I have five games on the go at the moment, and the multi table special starting in January, and ideally I'll get down to four.
So, Kicking off mid/late January I will run a CORE 06-04 Beacon Below. That will be followed by 9-7 Salvation of the Sages. This is open in my recruitment sheet now. I've got a spot reserved for Luke. For the rest, my priority is
#1 Scarab Sages
#2 characters who you intend to take on to 07-07 afterwards (for party continuity)
#3 lower tier (as those games typically go slightly faster).
Exact time for kick off will vary a little. It won't be the same week as Runescarred key, and it will be when I am down to three active games (so this will become my 4th). Luckily I have three games pretty much at their last encounter at the moment.
Next free slot will be taken up with a CLASSIC Temple of Empyreal Enlightenment. This has an encounter that can be helpful for your SS FJCs. Priority for this will be
#1 Scarab Sages
#2 higher tier characters (to help you get to 6 or 7th and thus eligible for 6-4&9-7; I'll work my way down from the higher level characters to the lower, and roll on even levels.
If I get a third free slot in a reasonable time frame (i.e by early April) I'll aim to run Classic 6-4 and 9-7 as well. This won't happen until the Runescared key finishes or my Eyes of the Ten part 4 concludes (or likely, both).
All three signups are open in my sheet now. There is no real rush as I can't see the first scenario starting until at least mid-Jan, but it will give you a chance to think about characters and freeing them up.
Please, please please... put in your character level and faction when you sign up, as these will be decision criteria. If it isn't there, you are likely to be skipped in favor of someone I know fits the need.

RECRUITING GMs FOR #8-99B: SOLSTICE SCAR
We will be running this special twice. The first session starts on March 5, and will be part of OutPost. In order to GM this session, you must be able and willing to help prep the scenario as a group.
The second session starts on May 7, and will have a couple of special notes:
- This run will not be part of a convention. The scenario will be provided to you, but there are no boons for GMs or players.
- This run will overlap with PaizoCon and Origins, and individuals may only participate if they are not attending either convention.
Interested GMs can signup here, and you are allowed to GM both sessions. Registration closes Thursday, December 21, and GMs will be selected by Sunday, December 24.

Several well dressed pages approach you while you are chilling out in one of Absalom's many "recreational establishments". While keeping their faces absolutely straight and showing no emotions whatsoever they hand you a small card bearing the flourishing calligraphy you have come to associate with Lady Gloriana Morilla.
After reading it you sigh... seems like what the future is holding for you is a trip to good old Oppara after all...
Recruiting for scenario #9-08 BIRTHRIGHT BETRAYED, high tier (4-5). Considering the nature of this scenario I'm giving priority to Sovereign Court PCs. Click HERE to join

Hey Edward, I'll be playing Sages at the GA PFS holiday party and will be happy to run it for you and Andrew and whomever else face to face at Giga sometime after the new year. - Abraham

@Magabeus, are you available for this scenario. to recruit a PC to the Sovereign Court?
@DM Elan Morin, I have a level 4 PC that I'm trying to get in the Sovereign Count via a season 6 faction card.

Is this version A? I am not sure when version B comes out and couldn't find any information on that.

As I said SC PCs will get priority so if you can bring a SC character to the game that would be best, it's not mandatory though, and at the moment we are shy of one player anyway.

Keandre (and I think Gerald as well - although might be with a different character) already signed up in my game, Honor's Echo (Table 2) and the game is well underway. When do you plan to start this GM Emmjay?

Magabeus wrote:I can confirm this is indeed version B.Is it best for us (players) to play this with a PC that played in the A version, or would we want to run this with a fresh PC that hasn't played any Solstice Scar?
You are allowed to play all parts on the same character. I cannot speak to a chronicle sheet that I have not seen yet, but I assume that there may be some benefits to getting 8-99 A & B on the same person.
Hmm
Abraham Z. |
Part A is still available until Part B releases. If you can get in a table before then, you will be fine. I highly recommend asking around your local lodge and seeing if you can drum up enough people to play. The 3 table minimum means you don't need even 20 players to make it happen.
Huh, ok so it doesn't have to be at a Con, just needs a minimum of 3 tables to run? But version B will launch in early January? Or just some time in 2018?
And is it worth trying to get version A under the belt before that? It may be tough to do here locally - most of our Atlanta lodges seem to be averaging 1-2 tables a game day right now (damn you 5e!) and I imagine that some people already played it at DragonCon this year. Would getting 3 tables together online be an option?
GM Granta |
I've volunteered to GM one of the March 5th tables for version B...will GMs that, volunteer to GM a March table; be given preference for a reserved seat on the May tables? (reason I ask is I've played version A this last summer and would love to play version B with same character)..
GMing either session reserves a seat for you at both sessions, so if you play core campaign, you are golden.

Is the story between A and B different or mostly the same? I played A during Gameday VI and remember that it's quite amazing but quite the long event to run/coordinate/organize! (my hat goes off to you guys to run this in PbP!!)
GM Hmm |
Solstice A: Parts 1, 2, 3
Solstice B: Parts, 1, 3, 4
So only 1/3 of the special changes between A and B. This information comes from a public post by John Compton in which he was looking for feedback to update 8-99. Don’t read it if you have not played 8-99 A yet. There are definite spoilers in that thread.

You say we can't be attending either of these cons, but I presume you mean we can't be playing or running this Special at either con also. I'll be at Paizo Con, but I'm only signed up for morning & afternoon events and will not be attending either the banquet or the Special.
I attend cons to have fun, and I've found that I don't have fun when I'm sleep deprived. I do either mornings/afternoons or afternoons/evenings and ensure I get sleep, food, and exercise in my off hours. I don't see how simply attending a particular con would make a person unable to GM in a PBP Special during those days. Unless you truly meant that you can't play or run the Special at said cons simultaneously with the PBP event. Is that a correct clarification?

Nomadical, thanks for the question!
Was I able to keep up with PBP at PaizoCon? Yeah. But I would not have been able to GM a PBP special while there. I easily average 12-15 posts a day when keeping up with a special. Playing in a special is different, and much easier. And with GenCon, keeping up with PBP was impossible. It was insane, and wifi was unreliable. PaizoCon had halfway decent wifi in the hotel rooms, not so great on the main floor. I have no idea what Origins is like for wifi, but I was the one who suggested to Granta that we exclude major convention attendees from GMing (but not playing) the second session. Yes, we have backup GMs. But if 8 GMs are gone at the same time, the strain on the backup GMs is incredible.
If you want to GM the Special, GM during OutPost. We’re offering two slots for a reason.

Wow! I had no idea that it required that level of effort from a GM. I wouldn't be able to do that on a normal day given my work situation, much less during a con. I now have a whole new level of respect for those of you that run these. Thanks for the answers and perspective.
@GM Granta: please withdraw the volunteer application I submitted.
