Shifty, just keep my name down for your next special. I really would love to run that one.

Shifty |

We'll get there GME!
The only thing I'm glum about is that at this rate I'm going to be missing a significant chunk of GD V because I have to be away for two weeks in Sep - that will almost certainly mean I miss running/playing in any multi-table. Sucks. I'll just have to add it on to my list to overseer.
On the other hand, this Overseer caper is a new interest - I just did a live 'Year of the Shadowlodge' over the weekend, and it was interesting the differences between PbP play and Face to Face. In the feedback for my PbP there were a few tables who felt rushed, and there were a few who were way ahead the whole time - the ratios were almost identical in face to face play. The table interaction levels were mostly similar, and the ability for one table to talk to another table wasn't necessarily any easier in face to face - the face to face atmosphere is pretty chaotic, PbP you have more physical time to play with and are only limited by the communications platforms.
Anyhow - back to breakfast...

What do you mean by text based? Play by post, play by e/mail, or play via chat client of some sort? (or maybe old style muds? Not likely I guess.)

Godfang, we do play by post, which is text-based and asynchronous. People post in a game throughout a day, and not everyone has to be online at the same time. If that sounds like what you want to play, welcome!
Hmm

I would like to humbly request more Tier 1-2/1-5 adventures - I've got at least 3 characters who have been stuck for some time at level 2 who I am eager to play and advance more. :)

Tell me if I have this straight: Am I to understand that next season (and when does that start?) we will be able to freely play Oread/Sylph/Ifrit/Undine characters with no need for Boons?

New seasons always start at GenCon (it could be just after, but I think it's the start of GenCon). And yes, Oread, Sylph, Undine, and Ifrit are being added to the available races.
*Note GenCon this year is August 4th-7th

Does one need to own the ARG to take advantage of that? Freakin Humble Bundle was great but left that one very important piece out.
Technically, you need to own the sourcebook (or a sourcebook, if something appears in multiple places) for anything not in the CRB that you use as a character option.

Is that still true if it's publicly available on the PRD?

Yes.

GM Hmm |

It's mostly* done via honor system in PFS PbP, just like we tend take you at your word when you tell us you have a folio or shirt reroll. But yes, you need to own the books for everything on your sheet -- equipment, spells, traits, whatever.
This is the primary reason none of my characters have my favorite Pathfinder weapon, the fauchard. I just could not bring myself to buy a splatbook for one item.
___
*There are a few PFS GMs that actually check resources owned and do character audits. One of the ones I know that does this also runs a couple PbPs a year.

Is anyone running a wishlist-style system like the one I'm using? I've run quite a few scenarios in the last few weeks and I was hoping to play one or two to break things up.
I have a small section for that on my sign-up sheet (URL section on my profile) and I am wrapping a scenario now. I have access to a lot of the older stuff, but newer season scenarios are harder to come by. What is it you'd like to play?

I am getting ready to start a few games when I get back from vacation. If you send a pm I will let you know when I am going to open registration. I will be running the confirmation and trouble in tamarin.spelling might be wrong. hope to see you in my games

Just out of interest, how long does PbP PFS Scenarios take? I play once a month at a game store. Could I fit a PbP between them?

![]() |
That depends on scenario and party. Fastest I have seen was like 6 hours. Fastest I have played was 3 weeks longest I have played was 3 months.
I would recommend starting another character so you have a back up then you can do both. That's what I do
Most of my games are about a month.

I wouldn't be opposed to chipping in for scenarios if cost is an issue.
Stuff I'd like to play:
- #4-17 Tower of the Ironwood Watch
#5-3 The Hellknight's Feast
#5-18 The Stranger Within
#5-19 The Horn of Aroden
#5-21 The Merchant's Wake by Justin Juan
#5-19 The Horn of Aroden by Nicholas Herold
#5-21 The Merchant's Wake
#5-23 Cairn of Shadows
#5-25 Vengeance at Sundered Crag
#6-4 Beacon Below
#6-18 From Under Ice by Andrew Hoskins
#6-22 Out of Anarchy by Garrett Guillotte
#7-1 Between the Lines by Sean McGowan
#7-2 Six Seconds to Midnight by Liz Courts
#7-3 The Bronze House Reprisal
#7-7 Trouble in Tamran by Benjamin Bruck
#7-27 Beyond Azlant Ridge by Ron Lundeen

I'd chip in for scenarios as well. There are a few here I'd play also.

Have you guys signed up on the PFS Session Tracker and filled your information out? It can be a great way to find unplayed scenarios for a group of players.
The Netherlands Lodge created it, but we've wound up using it in Minnesota to create flex tables. How flex works: six people sign up. The week before, we find out what scenarios they haven't played and then pick a scenario from that list.
It strikes me that we could do some of that in Flaxseed.
Hmm

When will the next opportunity for Boons be on here? I don't get in-person conventions where I live anymore.

![]() |

@Hiding - probably Gameday 5, which I am guessing may be late August or early September.
@GMing... it is worth looking at the signup lists at the top of the page. Some have wish lists. Mine does, although it doesn't seem to get used. But even without wish lists, many several GMs put the games up there but don't necessarily announce in the lodge. That gives folk who are not monitoring the boards 24x7 a chance to get in as well.
I typically start a couple of PBP games a month. For me they average around 40 days. Some run shorter, some run quite a bit longer. I don't think I've had any go over two months though. Modules do take longer. I'm playing one that is just finishing up that has been going for 18 months!!!! That is a long time to play a level 2 character.

^^^ And I thought 7 months for Godsmouth Heresy was tiring.. Geez!

Try playing an entire AP. I have a Shattered Star game that is just finishing up this summer after three years. My Rise of the Runelords game will probably be a little over three years when it finishes later this year.

I think GM Feral was rolling through a scenario in text only mode, took about 5 hours.
Look him up in the Flaxseed Lodge.^this was the message, basically i play on virtual tabletops, but instead of using voice I use text. I should probably consider pbp though
Feral is on here, somewhere, quietly watching... waiting... :p

Sheesh. I tried playing Shattered Star in PbP once, it took us ten months to get through book 1 and by then I needed a change of pace.

If you look at my signup sheet you'll see there is a tab marked wishlist.
People are free to put something down on that.
If I have it (and realistically more likely if I have not run it for credit) I'll think about running it.
If I don't have it and you want to donate it to my account, put a comment down, that is likely to get you bumped up my priority list. Folk who have GMed me in the past have been known to get requests done as well (got to encourage folk to GM!)
Note there are no guarantees of me doing anything on the wish list, but it does give me ideas about scenarios that folk would like to see offered.
For those who need a game right now this isn't very helpful. My dance card is pretty full at the moment, I'm GMing four games and have the next two already signed up. I have done more from time to time, but three or four is my general comfort level. I'll probably pack more in for the next Gameday.
At the moment I'm wondering if there would be interest in a Core run of the Destiny of the Sands series for the next gameday. Putting three back to back is tough, and those three in particular as the first two are 1-5s and the 3rd is 3-7.
I should probably put that in the signup sheet as a tentative series.

I went ahead and did this, even if its just another place to track it all.

Faelyn |

For th wish list suggestions might I request that if one of us requests a scenario and even puts up th cost of said scenario that we get a garunteed spot. Otherwise that's a very quick way to upset folks. I know I would not be happy to put up cash to donate a scenario to a GM and then not even get a PC due to random lottery.

DebugAMP |

Please don't make any mandatory recruitment policies for this thread. I often like to start games on request for my personal enjoyment and fill out the remaining seats via lottery, always favoring people who have previously GM'd for me. I don't expect others to do likewise. I prefer it if GM's select players however makes them happy, because a happy GM who is enjoying their side of the scenario usually makes for happier players. That being said, if you are going to give someone money or a product, make sure that you have an agreement ahead of time.

SodiumTelluride |

I think that "rules for everyone" should be kept at a minimum (basic courtesy, and that's pretty much it). That said, mandatory admittance seems like the kind of thing that would be worked out ahead of time-- "I'll give you this PDF, if you give me a spot in your game" seems like a perfectly reasonable deal to me.

Faelyn |

I can agree with that. I am sorry if I my request came off more like a demand. I agree that keeping rules for everyone minimal and that working out something directly with the player and the GM is the better way to do tings. Again, I apologize, text does a very poor job at conveying the inflection behind words.

EndlessForms |

I leave it up to each GM how they want to recruit. Some use first come, first serve. Others use a lottery system, like myself. But I have also been known to reserve seats for other GMs in return for playing in one of their games and then fill the rest with lottery winners. But I also occasionally do the whole recruitment through private invites as well.
