Skull and Shackles (Inactive)

Game Master Mimesyne

A pirate themed, seafaring adventure filled with brigands who aim to swash every buckle and buckle every swash. There's probably at least one Jack Sparrow and maybe that cat-lady from Treasure Planet. All in all, it should be good times.

This is Ilyan Argyris -my Human Swashbuckler. It might be worth noting that he wouldn't be caught dead wearing clothes like that, but I couldn't find a more accurate face.

Also, Besmara, I have a question on how feats that alter the damage types of weapons (Weapon Versatility, Snake Style, etc.) interact with swashbuckler stuff - Swashbucklers finesse (and several of the Swashbuckler Deeds) have requirements for piercing weapons.

Long story short -if I take Snake style, can I use my (now piercing) unarmed strike with Sb Finesse? Also, can piercing weapons I'm using still use Sb Finesse even when they're doing other damage types due to Weapon Versatility?

I'll have to take some time to think about this one, perhaps do some forum searches. It's a very good question. I am heading to bed right now, but tomorrow I'll take some time to go over the specifics of how those mechanics play together.

Okay! All of my crunch bits are into place! I think. If not please let me know and I shall fix! ^_^

What a nice cozy recruitment we have here. Have been interested in playing Skull and Shackles for quite some time (at least since the Serpent's Skull campaign I was in died on us, leaving me with an unsatisfied itch for southern seas adventures to scratch), and the introduction surely caught my attention!

Have had a sea-reaver barbarian character concept floating around for a while now, so without further ado – let me challenge the dice gods!

Sczarni

give me some rolls please

I have this character that was made for skulls and shackles but the game lasted about 2 days then the gm vanished. So I will apply with him. I will adjust his stats later today.

I'm interested. Could you roll stats for me, please?

Here is Lillian Mistborn. Sylph Sky Druid of Besmara

Seth's Application btw =^^=

The other Spoiler is for a PFS game. SO we only do some the battles regarding PFS, not the entire story driven AP. Hence the application to this game

So sorry! you sneaked that post right in there!

** spoiler omitted **

Wow! Can I get you to roll stats for all my characters from now on? :P As far as getting the nerf bat, that's totally fine. Will I be able to choose where I lose the points when the time comes?

I'm extremely uncertain what I'll come up with at the moment. A freebooter ranger is a possibility though possibly a brawler. I'll peruse the archetypes and see what sparks something.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Ahoy, again. No, down here it’s me Kipperdink and I am all done and ready to come aboard! Just click on my alias. Below is some info that might help.

INFO:
Primary: Roles Front-liner, Buffer; Secondary ranged skill.
I went with the alternate racial traits of Dark-vision,bond to the land, Fey magic, fey thoughts, and magical linguist. I have not chosen a teamwork feat yet I wanted to wait and see (if I am selected) what the other party members had and make a choice based on needs/synergy. Also I took the disadvantage paranoid but plan on playing more like he is extremely self reliant and doesn't want help from people. Finally I've include some links just incase you are not as familiar with the archetype or alternate traits I chose. Thanks for you consideration.

Alternate racial traits Race traits..

Storm Pilot trait 3rd trait.

Daring Champion Class Archetype.

As you turn your back Kipperdink hides inside of a barrel hoping to get on board without being noticed.

Very nice. Solid stats with some diversity. All even too, which tickles my number OCD fancies. I'll get right to work.

Current idea (might change as inspiration comes my way) is for an investigator who leads with his wit instead of natural personality. A real Captain Flint type. Haven't decided male or female yet, probably an elf or half-elf. More to come later.

Archlich here! Ouch, these stats hurt baaad, but since some balance might come later... Why not risk? Yarrr, it's a pirate life after all! Here's my profile with background and sheet. I always wanted to play the module and have experience both in pbp and table RPG, as player and GM. Thanks for the consideration in advance :)

Man...I do not envy you, Besmara. Recruitment thread up only since yesterday and you've got 169 (170 counting this one) posts, 13 completed applications, 10 partially completed, and a further 16 expressions of interest. I don't envy your position of sifting through all that; not one bit. Especially not with days left in the recruitment period.

While I agree with Ajani, I have to say she seems to be doing very very well! Maybe even taking some level of enjoyment out of it! ^_^

Well nothing can be done but to run 4 tables...OR maybe we have a giant tavern fight! Enh? ENH?

Sadly, I just don't have it in me to run multiple tables,so it will only be a handful of people I can accommodate.

That said, due to the number of applicants already in the pool...

Recruitment will close tomorrow, Friday August 14th at 11:59pm MST. Anyone who expresses interest by that time will have until Saturday August 15th at 11:59pm to have their final submissions in!

Agreed, Besmara is doing an admirable job of keeping on top of things but this is going to a devil of a selection process no matter how you slice it.

Amusingly, even if you were to run 4 tables of 5 you'd still end up cutting 50% of the currently interested parties...that's crazy!

Just says something about how desperately people have been needing a Skull and Shackles to open up. I don't think there are as many AP recruitments as there used to be even a year ago.

Ah, excellent. I've got my IRL game to prep for tonight and tomorrow, but I'll have an application in by Saturday night. Thanks for letting us know when you'll be cutting off the process.

Are you okay with someone who is familiar with the AP? One of my friends is running it as one of our home games, but I'd love to play another character in it is well. He was my original character for Skulls and Shackles before I swapped out for my Tiefling Grenadier.

I'm thinking a Hunter from the ACG, with a Roc as his animal companion? He's the child of a Mwangi native and Chellish ruling class in Sargava, and encountered his Roc companion deep with the Mwangi wilds. He eventually traveled to Port Peril to make his living as a pirate, although on some level he longs for the life of a simple fisherman.

I'm hoping to provide a quality table that keeps the players interests and doesn't fizzle out. When this one wraps up I plan on perhaps running a table of Jade Reagent, Serpents Skull, or one of the other APs that came before Skull and Shackles.

Thanks for the disclosure! Feel free to app. I assume good players know not to metagame.

PS @Lyesmith: I haven't forgotten about you, I'm just busy and haven't had a chance to sit down and really play with the mechanics.

Sovereign Court

It'll probably take you a few years to finish the AP, so you have plenty of time to decide. :)

Awesome, I'll get Cuiver up to the site sometime today or tomorrow. I work until 11:30 tonight, but I'm off at 4 both tomorrow and Saturday, so I should have plenty of time to get my character together.

Sovereign Court

Though I finished my character, I was just recruited into a very fast-moving PBP game and I'm already running another game and playing in three slow ones, so I will bow out of this recruitment thread. I hope everyone has a rollicking good adventure!

"Arrg, I be wantin' in on this!"

The Cap'n was built for another S&S recruitment but, sadly, the GM had guaranteed spots to two RL friends who both built melee guys. I think he's done as is, except I'd like my stats rolled and then I'll have to adjust for that.

With very few exceptions I can post once every day, often 2-3 times a day if things are moving quickly.

If you would kindly roll the bones Besmara, I'll get right on crunching the stats for this human wizard surgeon.

Lillian's Story:

Lillian was always at home on the sea. She had her own little fishing boat, which she used to to gather food for herself. She lived alone after she came of age. She never truly fit in with her family, being what she was. Not that it mattered. The ocean, the salty air, the movement of the waves. She felt at ease. Serenity was with her as she enjoyed the motions of the water.

She sold some of the fish she caught, only to get more supplies. She was not really good at the fishing part, but the sailing, well, that she was good at. Not being able to fish like the more accomplished fishermen had its drawback, but being able to sail better than most made up for it. Going into waters that was deemed unsafe, she could get some rare catches, which she sold to help fund her lonely lifestyle.

One evening, while she was in port, she decided to spoil herself, spending a bit too much on the local ale. She had a good haul that she sold, and well, she deserved a treat. It was not easy to get them. Needless to say, too much drink can go to your head, especially if you’re this young and not use to this much alcohol. To make a long story short, to much ale, not enough practice, lead to a very drunk, very unconscious Lillian

I am absolutely interested in this. I tried to get into a Skull n Shackles game before, but was not chosen. I may resubmit my human sea singer bard again or roll up a new character, most likely a human eldritch scion magus. Or possibly a swashbuckler or sea witch even(fits the campaign).

My bard had the following ability scores before race adjustment
10, 16, 13, 12, 10, 14. If my math is right, that's 20. Debating on whether I want a GM roll, considering most I've seen are 25+ pt buys (a lot of 40s)

Quick question for the GM;

Being both an Empiricist and a Mastermind Investigator works wonders for my concept. They overlap on Swift Alchemy though, so I was wondering if I would be allowed to take both and I don't mind which of the three I'd get between Swift Alchemy and its two alternatives. I could roll for it or pass that choice to you.

Otherwise, I'll just run straight Mastermind instead of both. Just thought it was worth an ask.

I've settled on an Exemplar Brawler. I should have plenty of time to write him up by Saturday.

I say go for it Warhawk. Besmara seems to have a knack for stat rolling and can any self respecting pirate really pass up the chance to tempt fate?

This is Limnen_euron's submission, crunch should be mostly done and ready for review; fluff's being finalized in my head and coming soon (probably changing her name too, this sounding a bit too cliche-y).

If I remember correctly, this was the first AP to be completed on these forums (with very few others repeating the deed), so here's to hoping!

Sure, I'll roll the bones. I think I'm settled on a female human (Varisian) sea witch, gaining some swashbuckler levels thrown in eventually (I'm thinking 3-4 max). I'll work on the crunch later.

What's your opinion on Harrow Decks, GM? (Mainly for RP purposes)

this is my first time to go from in person to online like this, but seeing this brought excitement. pirates!

I just noticed that in the previous game I applied to we had a total of 3 traits... I'm going to read up on drawbacks and see if there's one that makes sense for the captain, otherwise I'll drop one of them. (I may wait until after I get my stat rolls to decide)

Actually... attached looks really promising, if I could apply it to my anchor...

Sovereign Court

Finally getting to the fluffy bits (just got off work a little while ago, darn job getting in the way of fun time!).

Prince Neru's Fluffy Bits:
Prince Neru, born Neru Lorgro in a small farm outside Port Peril, was raised by a drunken ex-sailor father and an absent mother. He only had a couple friends, both young farm boys and slightly dull. Neru always had a fascination with both history and religious study, though he never really followed any one particular deity. As he grew older, he took to studying any book and story he could find. His bearing and need for knowledge caused those who knew him to nickname him 'Prince'.

When he became of age, and knowing that all he needed to learn he could find on the seas, he signed up on his first ship, thinking that different ports would hold different stories for him to hear. It didn't go as well as he had planned, as the ship belonged to a pirate scum who treated him like bilge. He bared with it, however, as his thirst for knowledge wouldn't let him quit. After a fews years working his way up in ranks, he finally left and joined a different crew, following the trend for most of his adult life. Eventually, he picked up enough from his travels to make himself a respectable pirate, able to fill in on most ships that he comes across.

After many years, he finds himself back in Port Peril, at the Formidably Maid, taking time off of his travels for a small vacation and relaxation.

Okay, I've tried to get in on this AP five times, and the one time I did get in, it died out of the gate (never got past the first move).

Toss the lots for me, please, GM!

Sorry for being a bit more absent today; been busy! Hopefully I've caught up with the day's work here in this post. As a reminder: once the final party is selected there will be some balancing put in place. I think I've worked out how.

Ouch, think I liked the straight 20pt buy. A 5 is just... ouch.

I definitely plan on having a Harrow deck. Harrow Born was the non-AP trait I was taking.

Check again, I accidentally misread and rolled someone else's a second time, so you inherited theirs.

Gotcha. Here's my alias (me being Scaffold Kane). I still have a bit of editing to do, but it's roughly thrown together.

Male Human Mastermind Investigator. I might be a half-elf instead, but I'll have to feel things out further and expand on his backstory a little more before deciding. In my head, he's 1/4 elf. So mechanically I could see him going either way.

My crunch is done. I'll work on the fluff tomorrow. I can commit to posting Monday-Friday 7:00pm-10:00pm US eastern time and anytime during the day on the weekends. I'm new to this forum and Pathfinder generally, but I'm willing to do homework if you feel its necessary. Also, I'm definitely in for the long haul. I've been wanting to get into PbP for ages (I'm out in the middle of nowhere and can't really do an IRL game).
