Skull and Shackles (Inactive)

Game Master Mimesyne

A pirate themed, seafaring adventure filled with brigands who aim to swash every buckle and buckle every swash. There's probably at least one Jack Sparrow and maybe that cat-lady from Treasure Planet. All in all, it should be good times.

@GM Besmara, in my backpack I have two books, just normal reading materials. Do I need to state what kind of books they are, does that matter to you?

I see what you did there.

(As you've noticed) my submission is complete, pending one or two things from Besmara...

First- Is it ok if I take the Pride drawback? It fits with his history of brawling, and with his background having a chip on his shoulder seems to make sense.

Second- After a small amount of research I put my anchor at 40lbs (which is what a modern anchor roughly the right size for a keelboat would weigh)... If that seems too light to you let me know and we can adjust it up (or maybe talk about one of the prongs being broken off or something).

Also, I'm technically not stupid... although Bowman (my talking parrot) does seem much more knowledgeable than I am...

I seem to have been omitted from the masterlist

E: but that may be good look, I got into a different game I wasn't expecting to, so I will withdraw from this exceptionally tight race.

Working on my Brawler now, should have my crunch up later tonight. I do have a question about campaign traits though, would it be possible to have Dockside Brawler work with a Cestus rather than Brass Knuckles? Both are extremely similar weapons but the Knuckles won't work for my chosen combat form.

If not, could I reflavour the Buccaneer's Blood trait to work as the son of a famous naval captain instead? My infamy being instead related to my very existence flying in the face of "proper" authority?

It's not the best fit but there isn't really an option for characters born on the right side of the law who took it upon themselves to casually swagger to the other, despite it being a rather popular choice of backstory. At least from what I've seen of the current submissions.

Any input would be appreciated.

I am working to get Reinald in the right format. For whatever reason I can't cut and past from your google doc. I updated the stats and how that moved the numbers just trying to switch formats.

Edit:
Someone who was super helpful PM'd me the original format. Which I found its the google page with the brackets and coding already in it that I was unable to copy.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Good luck to all! oh and Hi Reinald! How are you doing friendA shame about that game we were in going dark. Good luck!

Otm-Shank checking in. Working on my backstory presently, crunch should be nearly finished, just have some more mundane items to purchase.

Good to see you Rrruh. It was but it provides opportunity for new adventures.

@Culder 'the Captain' Hargraves Yes you can take pride, that's fine. 40lbs is probably a fine weight if that's the average of the type of anchor. I don't really wanna research anchors to find out >.>;; (Have I ever mentioned I'm lazy?)

@Otm-Shank No, can't change the mechanics of the traits and that includes swapping out one weapon for a similar, better weapon. That said, you're welcome to reflavor that small portion of the Buccaneer's Blood trait to be from a naval captain rather than a pirate captain.

@Esmarelda Valarie Nah, unless you want to for flavor.

Fair enough, I thought it worth the ask because S&S was written when brass knuckles were a better weapon.

However, Buccaneer's Blood works just fine by my estimation. Thank you for the speedy reply as always!

Hahaha!! I like you! If we get in this AP together, things are going to be interesting!

List hasn't changed much since last night so I'm not going to bother putting up a new one. I do have Vincent Tarridor and Reinald Malcoms shifted on the list appropriately and removed the note from Prince Neru.

Everyone else should take a moment to scroll up (or page back depending on when you see this) and ensure you are either already on the completed list, or, if you are still interested in running the AP with me, that you are working to get your character on that list. All partially completed apps have a note mentioning what needs to be fixed up for it to be considered complete. People who did not check in for updates and have left them incomplete are assumed to not be that interested in participating, and will be overlooked in favor of those more keen on running the AP!

If you have updated your application and have not said anything, please say something! I am not going to be chasing after every app to see if it's been updated! I assume you'll say something here if fixes have been made to get it to a more complete state. I've done enough of that already last night and now this morning. No more!

FINAL SUBMISSIONS ARE DUE TONIGHT, SATURDAY, AUGUST 15th AT 11:59PM MST!

I encourage anyone with last minute questions to ask them now as I'll be busy with going through apps tomorrow and I hope to have the campaign's first posts up sometime Monday, August 17th.

And finally, as a warning, your stats will change! I realized far too late what a mistake I made with how I was rolling out stats. I think I've got it figured how I'll be balancing, but I'm not 100% sure yet. I'll be talking with the final selected party to ensure a reasonable method is used that closes the massive power gaps and lowers the average point buy without jeopardizing character concepts. (I messed up how I was supposed to do what I was trying to do when it came to stats. Oops. >.>;; This is why I can't have nice things. FORGIVE ME!)

Only things I'll change with my character page are add stats and a name for Adira's pet monkey, and possibly change Adira's first name. Doesn't have quite the ring to it that I'd like.

Fluff has been finalized! Some parts might be (very blandly) NSFW-ish (though nothing that would prevent it from getting a PG-13 rating, I guess); if asked, I'll be happy to rework them, though since I've figured 'hey, we're pirates after all!' I've settled on keeping them for flavor for the time being...

Regardless of whether I'll be picked or not (which looks like a tougher challenge by the minute – lots of excellent submissions!), any feedback would be most welcome, if you feel like giving it. Everybody else, good luck!

New submission out of the blue; just saw the thread.

I submit Ambrose Jeggare, tiefling wizard (infernal binder), with a minor note. You mentioned no lawful alignments, Ambrose is initially LN. This is intended to denote self-discipline and militarism, not a refusal to break laws. Is this acceptable? If not, I can switch him to TN.

It seems there isn't time to draft a fictional vignette, but backstory overview is in the profile. There are also roleplay examples in his posting history.

Sorry sir, new applications are no longer being accepted! I closed recruitment last night to new applicants. All that's being done now are final touch ups to pre-existing applications before I start picking people tomorrow. Sorry!

That's just as well; you're plate's pretty full as it is. Have fun!

I (dathom) Have put final touched on my character, Morgan Wills. Growing up on the poor side, this character doesn't have much gear to start with. Please let me know if you see any errors, as I put the profile together on my mobile, since I am computerless this weekend. I look forward to seeing who makes the cut. Good luck everyone.

Good luck to all, and maybe the sixth time will be the charm for me.

I'm withdrawing my application. It looks like another chance at a kingmaker campaign could be opening up and many of the maties here are more excited about being a pirate than I am. Have fun everybody.

Indeed; good luck to everyone!

All right, Vincent's backstory is all finished. Ended up a little longer than I might have anticipated but I hope it's an enjoyable read at the very least.

Good luck to all my fellow applicants! I hope to see you in the campaign!

Sorry, I am going to have to withdraw. Have fun all!

Here is my completed character (alias of Iff).

Good luck to everyone who applied!

If anyone is using 3PP material, please make a note of it at the TOP of your character sheet with DIRECT LINKS to its page on the d20pfsrd.

Sorry for all the big and bold text. I want people to see when I'm saying things that may be relevant to them but lost in all the chatter.

On the contrary. The big text is much appreciated. Makes it easy to follow your announcements!

Sovereign Court

Always appreciate a GM willing to make him/herself heard amidst all the chatter.

If I can get on a ship with Ajani I can make sideways comments about that last time he was on a ship ;p.

Good luck folks!

Looper's crunch has been updated to the correct format, anything else i'm missing?

Good luck all- can't wait to see the list tomorrow!

This is Fighting Chicken's submission - Cueta Guiding Star, reluctant pirate and even more reluctant monster hunter.

I've got her currently statted and themed as an inquisitor of Lamashtu, but that can be easily re-skinned and re-crunched if desired (Besmara's sea monster aspect being one avenue to do this).

Good luck to everyone, and thank you, GM Besmara, for the consideration.

I don't think an active worshiper of Lamashtu is going to be a good fit in anything short of an evil campaign. You should probably consider literally almost any other god.

I updated Adira's profile to include her monkey familiar, Ruby. Whether she gets picked or not, I'll be changing Adira's name after GM Besmara's selection.

GM Besmara wrote:

Haha, I figured it would be a hard sell. I've changed the fluff so that Cueta's no longer an extremely reluctant harvester of monsters for Lamashtu's demonic army to a merely reluctant sender of monsters to Besmara's chest. The only crunch that needed to be changed was changing the domain from madness to tactics. Thanks for the feedback!

Well my scurvy sea dogs, handsome sailors, and fearful pirates, the evening it coming to a close and thus I give all a bit of luck! My the skies be fair, the waves be calm, the plunder good, and the wind be ever in your sails! Can't wait till 'morrow!

ah, the task is complete, or so I assume. and within the time allotted. crunchy and fluffy and all other parts should be well stuck together. *stashing away the glue and paper mache all the while*

good luck all you sailors, pirates and all others that love the sea. this list looks mighty and fun.

Hey GM Besmara, what's your take on familiar archetypes? For example say that Adira's monkey familiar being 'sent' to her by Besmara has the Emissary familiar archetype. I think that fits with her backstory rather well.

EDIT: Also, what would be your interpretation of witch patron familiars. Since Adira has the Water patron, and if I were to select the water patron familiar, would that make her monkey familiar be amphibious? (An interesting take on a monkey.. heh)

I'm also curious about familiar archetypes. Sea Singer gets a monkey or parrot at second level, and the Pilferer or Infiltrator archetypes could open up some interesting avenues for trickstery shenanigans.

Hrm, Pilferer archetype fits for a monkey. Might fit better for a pirate witch than emissary.
