Maximize metamagic rod (lesser, 3/day) Metamagic rods hold the essence of a metamagic feat, allowing the user to apply metamagic effects to spells (but not spell like abilities) as they are cast. This does not change the spell slot of the altered spell. All the rods described here are use-activated (but casting spells in a threatened area still draws an attack of opportunity). A caster may only use one metamagic rod on any given spell, but it is permissible to combine a rod with metamagic feats possessed by the rod's wielder. In this case, only the feats possessed by the wielder adjust the spell slot of the spell being cast.

Possession of a metamagic rod does not confer the associated feat on the owner, only the ability to use the given feat a specified number of times per day. A sorcerer still must take a full-round action when using a metamagic rod, just as if using a metamagic feat he possesses (except for quicken metamagic rods, which can be used as a swift action).

The wielder can cast up to three spells per day that are maximized as though using the Maximize Spell feat. Lesser metamagic rods can be used with spells of 3rd level or lower.

Lillian's Story:

Lillian was always at home on the sea. She had her own little fishing boat, which she used to to gather food for herself. She lived alone after she came of age. She never truly fit in with her family, being what she was. Not that it mattered. The ocean, the salty air, the movement of the waves. She felt at ease. Serenity was with her as she enjoyed the motions of the water.

She sold some of the fish she caught, only to get more supplies. She was not really good at the fishing part, but the sailing, well, that she was good at. Not being able to fish like the more accomplished fishermen had its drawback, but being able to sail better than most made up for it. Going into waters that was deemed unsafe, she could get some rare catches, which she sold to help fund her lonely lifestyle.

One evening, while she was in port, she decided to spoil herself, spending a bit too much on the local ale. She had a good haul that she sold, and well, she deserved a treat. It was not easy to get them. Needless to say, too much drink can go to your head, especially if you’re this young and not use to this much alcohol. To make a long story short, to much ale, not enough practice, lead to a very drunk, very unconscious Lillian
