Skull and Shackles (Inactive)

Game Master Mimesyne

A pirate themed, seafaring adventure filled with brigands who aim to swash every buckle and buckle every swash. There's probably at least one Jack Sparrow and maybe that cat-lady from Treasure Planet. All in all, it should be good times.

Made a quite touch up to the Backstory, still only a few lines though. Wouldn't make sense to have a very long one after all, I am but a level one.

Also added a brief monologue from my character for purpose of his Personality. Also only a few lines, but I think it gets the point across.

And with that I should be done entirely!

My formatting is OK right?

Tariel Alexander Valinndir wrote:

No, you'll have to change it to match what the standard form is. It's so I'm not looking up and down every character sheet and having to actively find whatever info it is I'm looking for. Also, the bolding is seriously needed.

Yours is close, but things like your saves should all be one line, etc, etc.

@GM Besmara Posted my application, still would like you're opinion please so I can change something if needed before the deadline.

This is a character I made for a pirate game but never got to play. Few quick questions.
Can you please roll stats for me?
how is my formatting?
Is there anything that needs to be changed/added besides my ability scores?

I built this character based on a 20 point buy but am willing to let fate have a hand in his creation. Could you please roll stats for him and I will reformat him with the appropriate template.

And I noticed my Animal Companion hadn't been formatted yet. Fixed now.

Jack's Feedback:

Well, it's pretty over the top on the special snowflake factor and topped up with some cheese :/ Being directly involved with a god is a little over the top for any level 1 character.

@GM Besmara Why go low when you can aim for the sky? If this won't get me chosen I can make another backstory. Just want to have the chance to play!

It's a little too high to go about placing yourselves in direct contact with the gods. A rewrite would probably be in your best interest for getting into the campaign :P

Looks good.

Please roll me some stats.

Warren has started s and s and been stranded.

Background is complete.

Oh man, I have been waiting for one of these to pop up. I've run Skull and Shackles IRL halfway through book 4 but I've never gotten a chance to be on the other side of the shield. I own all the Skull and Shackles books, including Pirates of the Inner Sea, and Isles of the Shackles. The character I would like to submit is a half-orc druid from Ollo, he reveres the Black Lady aka Besmara, but he doesn't really follow her piracy aspect. He follows the aspect of Sea Monsters, but if he can be a pirate and a sea monster he can be worth so much more to his goddess.

Ausk Green

Meet Gall, the half-giant shipmate! Alias should be fully up to date, just disregard the gestalt portion of it as that's for a game that I did not end up getting into. That said, here's the good fluffy stuff:

Born of a forced union between a human woman and a storm giant, Gall never knew his birth father. A few months prior to coming into the world, his mother escaped her enslavement and fled to the lawless Shackles where she might disappear. Early in the young half-giant's childhood, she married a fisherman and the pair raised the abnormally large boy as their own. Gall did not have a perfect childhood, as who truly does? But he and his parents were happy, which was all that mattered. As he grew, he worked with his father to learn the trade, eventually going on to work as a sailor during a few short stints on merchant ships. During one routine stop in Port Peril, he elected to while away his evening at the Formidably Maid, which ended about as well as expected.

At upwards of seven feet and three hundred pounds, Gall is a mountain of a man, which is fitting. His heritage certainly seems to imply that he could not be anything but, not that he talks about his heritage much. Far from the "strong, silent type," the half-giant does love a good yarn especially over some proper grog. Despite not being the most intelligent man or woman in the room, he is very far-sighted in his goals, preferring to plan ahead as best he can. Like most of his kin, he abhors slavery to a violent degree and does all that he can to avoid becoming wrapped up in it as his mother once was. Unfortunately, it seems fate is not on his side in that matter...

And there we are! I'll toss this bit into the Alias as well, if you'd like. Just let me know what you think.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

What ho, lads! I daresay, who'd like to shove off with the scion of a true pirate legend!

This is a character I played for quite a bit, but the game ended before we got through the first book. He's a humorous character, if you want someone like that in the game. Sort of a "Bertie Wooster meets Guybrush Threepwood" sort. I'm rather proud of him.

I'll also have to rework him to get rid of the pistol. Let me know what you think.

Sadly, won't be havin' time till week end ta' be gettin' page fer character all worked back up. But I is eager an' keen an' interested an' stuff fer playin', honest!

Sovereign Court

Just to get in on the fun, I'm concepting out a character who is a seascarred (skinwalker, wereshark-kin) freebooter (an oceanic ranger archetype built around working with a pirate crew). I picture the character as being a large, somber, dark-skinned, tattooed man -- a Pacific Islander-type, a man of few words and a perfect straight man to one of the more humorous types recently submitted. Something like this.

Since I'm still in the concept phase, it's also possible (if this concept holds water, pun intended) that the character could instead go toward the corsair swashbuckler type, or even a water elemental bloodrager, a shaman, or a skald, depending on the needs of the group.

(GM Besmara, any feedback on such a concept would be appreciated.)

Jesse Heinig wrote:

I'm a fan of applying with a character you like, so to me the concept is as good as you write/build it.

Did some updating to put a rough draft of the background for the character. I'll play with it some more at some point and have it proper and finalized ^^.

The format will have to be updated to mirror my preferred format. Herolab format is similar, but not identical (and quite different in the bottom sections).

GM Besmara, just dropping by to let you know that the profile character sheet has been updated to mirror your preferred format. If there's anything else I can do, please don't hesitate to say so. Thanks for your consideration!

EDIT: One more question: What's your policy on coinage weight vs. encumbrance? HeroLab has the option to ignore the weight of carried liquid assets in your encumbrance. I have it counted right now just in case, but I want to be certain.

Archetypes have been updated.

I've been itching to play in a proper high seas misadventure! Chance being the name of the game, would you kindly roll me some stats so I can get the creative juices flowing Besmara?

So I got 2 18s and 2 dump stats... I feel like a dirty mini-maxer >->

However, I feel I am going to have to change my submission, while the human mindchemist would probably have a significantly higher chance of getting in, I really feel I need to go with what I would really want to play, even if that means that I would have more overlap and competition with other submissions. Less chance to get in vs a more fun character... Ill take that chance ^-^

So, I am going to go with a Goblin Rogue ^-^
He is my Smee the Monkey, he basically lives up in the rigging and masts, swinging from one section of rigging to another sail and mast, finding himself up in the crows nest to keep his eyes peeled to the horizons.
10 Str, 20 Dex, 10 Con, 9 Int, 18 Wis, 7 Cha (those stats makes not dumping a stat hard...)
He will probably need Wisdom in the Flesh to make either climb or swim not a str skill :/
And bouncy! That with roll with it means that He's a very bouncy goblin :)

Well, I'll start working on building him up! However, my internet went down last night >:(
I'll have to see how long it takes to get back up.

Awesome! Thanks for fixing it up. Coins count for weight! There will be banks (courtesy of your local Abadaran church) if you start to gather too much coinage and it's holding you down and tearing your purses.

Looks good, except I notice you have two social traits (rich parents and clever wordplay) so one of those will have to change to a different type of trait. I'm also going to give you a touch of homework: regale me with a tale of how your traits play in and in what way you are refluffing them. They should hold true to their original flavor and meaning while giving them a personal twist.

Aye aye captian!

I can't here youuuuuu....

Well I see Gobo went a similar way but I had to offer up a gobbo too...so here we try...

Very interested. Can I get rolled stats?

Only one question; I see you called off the lawful alignment. I was thinking about a pirate captain-like character. I don't have to be lawful, of course, but lawful feels right for the role. You know, the "These are my rules and you'd damn well better follow them." sort of character.

You'd be looking at a neutral alignment for your character if that's the vibe you're going for. I mean, pirates are typically a more chaotic sort despite their wonderful democratic system and ship structure.

This is Ilyan Argyris -my Human Swashbuckler. It might be worth noting that he wouldn't be caught dead wearing clothes like that, but I couldn't find a more accurate face.

Also, Besmara, I have a question on how feats that alter the damage types of weapons (Weapon Versatility, Snake Style, etc.) interact with swashbuckler stuff - Swashbucklers finesse (and several of the Swashbuckler Deeds) have requirements for piercing weapons.

Long story short -if I take Snake style, can I use my (now piercing) unarmed strike with Sb Finesse? Also, can piercing weapons I'm using still use Sb Finesse even when they're doing other damage types due to Weapon Versatility?
