James "Joyride" Maxwell |

Nice going, Esh... Can we aim it? I'm on my way!

James "Joyride" Maxwell |

If he he's time, James will attempt to discern if there are other such "cannons" in the facility.

rando1000 |

1d20 + 16 ⇒ (13) + 16 = 29
Surprisingly, Tamrat receives a response.
"You have one of our people, perhaps. Since he has failed his duties, you may keep him. However, for your efforts at diplomacy, I will give your crew an opportunity to board your vessel and cede the ground to us."

James "Joyride" Maxwell |

Six-Pack, reflex: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
SIX! James draws his firearm as he closes.
James attack, handcannon: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
James damage, handcannon: 1d12 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Six-Pack attack, pistol: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Six-Pack damage, pistol: 1d6 ⇒ 5

SerpentViolet |

Isis, using the door for cover, tries arc pistol and sneak attack again: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30 for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 electricity and 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (19) + 22 = 41 for 3d8 ⇒ (2, 4, 6) = 12. Bleed again for her debilitating trick.

Eshenvral Kothiavus |

"I hope to do better then simply aiming." Eshenvral states, as he preps the canon and tries to find a trajectory for the Azlanti vessel.
Unless Tamrat says otherwise, Esh will presume they're still a viable target. Rando, what should I roll here to do what I wish to do?

James "Joyride" Maxwell |

Fighting the recoil... Before you do better, are there any other such cannons? A concerted strike might make a stronger impression, upon our guests.

rando1000 |

Now that you've accessed the ship's systems, I guess make a DC 20 computers check to acquire the vessel as a target, then you'll be able to fire next round.

rando1000 |

Grenade Damage:5d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 6, 1, 5) = 20
I guess once you hit the grid intersection with a grenade, does the Reflex Save only apply for special effects? Does everyone in the radius automatically take the damage? I was thinking it was a save for 1/2 damage situation, but re-reading the rules, I'm not seeing that.

I'm looking, but I agree with your interpretation. It says the effects apply to creatures that fail their reflex save (presumption, there was already one)... not, creatures get a reflex save for special effects.
Effectively, if you too the full brunt (failed save, full damage) you get the bonus special effect.

James "Joyride" Maxwell |

Explode Property Link Game on!

rando1000 |

Explode Property Link Game on!
Excellent, thanks for the reference. Six-Pack takes 1/2 damage (incendiary, meaning damage is Fire). Still need a save from Sharlavaka.

Sharlavaka |

Sorry, pulled a muscle in my neck. Took a while for the anti-inflamatory stuff to kick in and let me my arms freely.
Reflex: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

Thalin Shieldbearer |

Wash, rinse, repeat
Trying to properly contribute, Thalin tries to use the giant weapon as covering terrain.
Survival for Trick (using terrain for cover): 1d20 + 16 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 16 + 4 = 34
Tricks through CR 14, so I'll assume good.
Plasma Ring vs Flat-Footed EAC: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28 Yay!.
Electric & Fire w/ Trick Attack: 1d4 + 3 + 3d8 ⇒ (4) + 3 + (7, 1, 3) = 18 Make target off-target to reduce his attacks against everyone, if I both tricked him and hit.

Eshenvral Kothiavus |

computers: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (3) + 16 = 19
*pinches the bridge of his nose.* Of course.

rando1000 |

Sharlavaka takes full fire damage from the grenade (20 points).
Thalin's shot finishes off the Azlanti officer good. He drops to the ground, and a second later the incendiary grenade we was going to throw next round goes off, destroying his remains quite will.
Esh ALMOST had it, but then someone on the ship started messing with the computers.

rando1000 |

Esh may fire next turn at +2 (Otis set up the ship's computer to assist you).
No sooner is Otis off the line than you hear marching boots in the hallway behind you.
At almost the same time, the floor at the edge of the room most of you are in opens up, and a smaller version of the stealth beast pops into the room just as its natural camo turns on.
(will post a new map this afternoon).
Looks like Sharlavaka didn't get an action in Round 3, aside from making the save. If there's anything he'd like to do before Round 4 starts, let me know.
Top of Round 4

James "Joyride" Maxwell |

Captain, we found records, readings and samples of unusual mineral deposits, but they're beneath a layer of common ore...
The readings are faint, maybe their ship sensors are better and can pick up more info if they get closer.
Tell them that.
Hearing the marching... Hunh? Ohhh frack!

Sharlavaka |

Shuddering from the force of the blast, Sharlavaka shook his head to clear the worst of the explosion from his head before opening fire in return once again. Surrender was no longer a choice.
To Hit: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
Damage: 2d8 + 6 ⇒ (4, 2) + 6 = 12

SerpentViolet |

With her spare hand, Isis readies a grenade of her own. (When can she throw it? I'm readying an action for best employment against as many Azlanti scum as feasible.)

rando1000 |

You have not yet seen the other Azlanti, though it's clear they're on their way.
Did Sharlavaka shoot at the beast, or is he going to use that attack when the Azlanti show up? Thalin already killed the only one in the room.
The orange oval is the likely location of the Azlanti that just "beamed" down.
Is Joyride still back in the robot room?
Isis can throw her grenade now, wait for someone to walk through the door, or run up to the door and throw it, her choice.

Eshenvral Kothiavus |

Eshenvral maintains his lock, but before doing anything he relays Tamrat a message. "Do I have permission to fire?"
Hold, effectively, until after Tamrat says what to do.

rando1000 |

Is Six-Pack attacking the creature in round 4? And does Joyride still remain in the robot room?
Other than that, the only thing left in round 4 is for the creature to attack, but I'll hold off on rolling it's attack until we know what Six-Pack does.
Then, at the top of Round 5, the troops will step around the corner, Esh can roll the ship's attack, and Isis can throw her grenade.

Eshenvral Kothiavus |

I was just holding til after Tamrat's response, not til the next round. Howevr... I feel like our combat is about to get weird with me doing this.
With his captain's confirmation, Esh takes control of the twin laser canons and points them straight at the enemy vessel.
Twin Laser Turret: 1d20 + 6 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 6 + 3 + 2 = 22
Damage: 5d8 ⇒ (5, 5, 7, 2, 5) = 24

SerpentViolet |

Btw, I plan for Isis to lob her grenade into area 15 using the door for cover from the blast. She should be stationed next to "E"sh on the map.

rando1000 |

I was just holding til after Tamrat's response, not til the next round. Howevr... I feel like our combat is about to get weird with me doing this.
Yes, I've set up, purposely, a rather complicated situation here. Unfortunately, it's even confusing me a little. I'll count this as happening in Round 4.
Esh's remote shot is a solid hit, the damage enough to drop the port side shields of the Azlanti troop transport, and bleed some damage to the hull besides.

rando1000 |

Okay, we've held off long enough, figure this will be easier if we start fresh. So,
Top of Round 5
Initiative Order:
Invisible creature - First*
New Azlanti troops/Isis' grenade
Rest of party
*I'm having the creature attack first, because it "held" it's action trying to decide who to attack. At this point, it sees Sharlavaka as the best target.
(reminder that the creature is effectively invisible).
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27
2d6 + 9 ⇒ (1, 5) + 9 = 15
Isis, please lobbest thou thy grenade.

SerpentViolet |

Isis deftly lobs her frag III grenade from behind the door so as to get as many foes in the blast as possible: AC 5 for square or interstice, 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16, 4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 5, 3) = 15 to 15’ radius, Reflex DC 20 for half. ”Just returning the ordinance!”

rando1000 |

Throwing it in the doorway between the garage and the hallway, Isis manages to catch all the troops except the one hiding around the corner in her blast radius. However, they attack at the same time.
Both Isis and Esh have partial cover (+4 to AC).
On Isis: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
2d8 + 5 ⇒ (8, 6) + 5 = 19
On Isis: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
2d8 + 5 ⇒ (3, 5) + 5 = 13
On Esh: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27
2d8 + 5 ⇒ (7, 2) + 5 = 14

Sharlavaka |

Grunting as the unseen enemy attacks him, and hits him hard, Sharlavaka's claws lashed out to try and hit the thing.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
Chance (low bad): 1d100 ⇒ 27
To Hit: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
Damage: 1d6 + 16 ⇒ (2) + 16 = 18
I have the feeling that this is gonna be awkward...don't suppose I get any bonuses for fighting this thing hand to hand?

SerpentViolet |

Isis manages to catch all the troops except the one hiding around the corner in her blast radius. However, they attack at the same time.
Both Isis and Esh have partial cover (+4 to AC).
What kind of damage is this?

Eshenvral Kothiavus |

Gonna guess its energy, myself.
"Otis, get me another heading!" He commands the human through the commlink, momentarily shifting his worries to the psychically there. Thrusting out his cybernetic arm, a gray sparking cloud shoots forth and starts to swarm around the Azlanti. With his magic employed, he moves to duck behind the doorfram of the other room. He trusted the Vesk to keep the snowbeast busy for it to not be an issue.
Microbot Assault, with a wide enough area that it should cover all the enemies right outside the doorframe.

James "Joyride" Maxwell |

Maybe it's blind and if we hold still, it'll go past us and into the Azlanti?

rando1000 |

I have the feeling that this is gonna be awkward...don't suppose I get any bonuses for fighting this thing hand to hand?
Not by RAW, that I'm aware of. Hint: It is an animal, with animal intelligence. There are things the party might do to reduce or eliminate it's invisibility.
What kind of damage is this?
Kinetic (Piercing).
Azlanti saves vs. grenade:
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
5 of the 8 Azlanti soldiers take the full brunt of the grenade's damage.

rando1000 |

Microbot Assault, with a wide enough area that it should cover all the enemies right outside the doorframe.
The microbots immediately spray harrying fire into the crowd of troops, giving the next attacker against them a +2 bonus to attack.
Also, everyone gains a +2 AC against attacks from the ones within the cloud, as long as they stay in it.

Otis Crembly |

"Otis, get me another heading!"
"Roger that, Eshenvral; one mark 22.97 by 65.22 positive plane!" Otis says, reading out the coordinates as he passes them electronically to Esh.
Since starship combat is timey-wimey, Esh, go ahead and fire the guns now rather than wait a round.

Eshenvral Kothiavus |

His left eye twitches at the same time he triggers the mechanisms within the ship's turret, slinging forth another volley into the Azlanti Transport's general direction.
TLT: 1d20 + 6 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 6 + 3 + 2 = 21
Damage: 5d8 ⇒ (1, 8, 1, 4, 3) = 17

James "Joyride" Maxwell |

Come in, Captain... this is James "Joyride" Maxwell. I see a way out, but it needs your consummate finesse. Don't forget to turn on the camera.
This is a total scat-show down here, Sir. But...
Inform the Azlanti Commander that there is a stand-off and a snow creature down here... everyone will die, and his ship will be destroyed!
Unless he orders his troops to ally with us and defeat the creature.
Then we can all get off planet and part ways. I believe Esh has given you a bit of leverage. You can do it, Sir.
James fiddles with his kit and the pulverizer. If it emits sonic waves, it readily uses frequency. If I can jam their GPS/beacons, they cannot be extracted. Need to let them communicate, for now.
They teleport/gate, right? Ouch... lame.
Engineering: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (4) + 15 = 19

Tamrat ul-Khedim |

Tamrat radios back, ”Copy that. These Azlanti don’t take kindly to being told what to do, but I will see what I can do.”
With that, he sends a hail to the Azlanti ship and says, ”Now, I know I have your attention. There’s more where that came from because my gunners are just getting warmed up, unless you listen to me. There is a hostile entity on the surface that will, in all likelihood, wipe out all forces you send down. How I see it, you’ve got two options. First one, you don’t help me out, and it devours most of your men while my ground team finishes the rest off, and them my ship blasts yours to smithereens. Second one, your forces help my ground team kill the entity, and I don’t turn you into slag. The choice is yours.”
Bluff, Expertise: 1d20 + 16 + 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 16 + (2) + 1 = 35

rando1000 |

Top of Round 6
Modified Initiative Order: Creature, Isis, Azlanti troops, Joyride/Sixpack, Sharlavaka, Thalin, Esh.
Starships: Azlanti troop carrier (no action last turn), Exsilium
The creature continues to attack Sharlavaka.
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 32
2d6 + 9 ⇒ (3, 2) + 9 = 14
Crit.
2d6 + 9 ⇒ (3, 1) + 9 = 13
Isis' action.

rando1000 |

Azlanti captain to Tamrat:
"Rogue captain, withdraw your rabble and cede the planet; we'll deal with you and your crew when we take Zothune."
Your diplomacy succeeded, kind of. He had wanted to kill you; now he's willing to let you leave, but not give up his goal.
