Rando's Starfinder 2018 - Zothune

299 AG - The heroes are part of a resistance group called The Gardathir, defending the colony world of Zothune.



We're in need of TWO (and only two) new crewmembers in our ongoing campaign. The characters are members of a resistance organization on a Dwarven mining colony trapped between an indifferent Pact Worlds government and the hostile Azlanti.

Looking for a new captain and someone to function as additional gunner/backup pilot. PCs just hit 6th level. I would like new players to commit to being able to post every other day minimum.

I'm interested. I'll probably make an envoy, as they lend themselves toward captaining. Not sure what the exact details will be though.


Checking messages before running off for an Order of the Arrow (Boy Scouts) induction weekend. Won't look at this again until I get back. <shrug>

Easily identify the two ship combat roles. Are there any skills/specialties missing when outside the ship that we should look to cover?

Mundane healing is something that tends to get skipped, for example. Depending on party composition, it also might be completely unnecessary. Or very necessary.

I have an NPC Envoy "Medic" that actually specializes in mundane healing, so I think we're good there (+15 Medicine). What we lost was a Mystic (Captain) with high social skills (also a reasonable pilot) and an NPC under the captain's control that was related to the Captain, plot-wise.

Right now we have:
Science Officer (technomancer)
Gunner/butt kicker (Vesk soldier)
Primary pilot/sometime gunner (Android operative)
Engineer (NPC)
Medic (NPC)

You're in as the new Captain. Please work with me concept-wise to make sure you can fit into the rebel resistance organization. I'm pretty open.

Gunner w/ some Pilot and have fun with skill set and capabilities. Got it.

Envoy, Operative, Soldier, Technomancer in the group.

Envoy, Mechanic, Operative, Solarion, Soldier, Technomancer look to be the best options for building a Gunner. Some with BAB, others with Pilot ranks to double-dip with the secondary role. Operative and Soldier can both be Dex-based . . ..

Want to try to avoid much in the way of duplication, though. Character build can cover that to a point. Daredevil or Explorer for Operative, but the Soldier has a lot of room to start and grow differently.

I'll see what appeals after I get back from the camping trip. Actually came back to my computer to print a medical form, but had to look . . ..

Willing to fill in the gaps and RP, so no set concept from my end... But, I try to add a twist (as I fill those gaps).

Looking at the existing/previous characters, it looks like the races are pretty open. Do you prefer I stick to something from the core book, or how far afield would you allow?

My first thoughts include a Dwarf (well, you said it was a dwarven colony), a Human, a Ysoki, a Tiefling, or an uplifted Bear.

Honestly, the bear is just because the idea of an Explorer Bear seems entertaining. I think his size and having to pay to convert basically everything he uses will be more inconvenient than the concept is amusing. Heck, he would probably have to squeeze to get around inside the ship . . ..


Well, kinda settled on a Colonist Ysoki Operative (explorer). Spacefarer and Xenoseeker are both close, but both feel a little too restrictive, I think.


15K for gear? Something else?

A Dwarf would be great. While the bear idea is humorous, I think maybe not for this one. Any of the other three you mentioned would also be fine.

You don't HAVE to switch. You can still go Ysoki if you want.


Meh. I don't list options I'm not willing to play. Dwarf makes sense for multiple reasons, and actually downplays some of the min-max potential of being an Operative, and there's far too much of that, regardless. Home from work, now, checking the boards, and will finish up the dwarf afterwards.

Naming got easier. I'm reusing an old alias. Copying things into the profile for now.

Not sure how much background you've read, but Zothune is tide-locked, with most mining occurring in a central habitable zone or slightly outside it on the hot side. Background in artic conditions (cold side), extreme heat conditions (hot side), and asteroids (in-system) are well in-character. Not sure that will necessarily effect skills, but it might effect how you write you think of "outdoors" in your background.
