Would anyone like to roll his combat rolls? I find it better if a player subs if someone is willing.

I am back from my conference so posting will become more regular.

I assume you mean what you have to pay to craft the potions Augar?

Well the cost to make a potion it caculated like this: 25 gp × the level of the spell × the level of the caster. So a cure light wounds from you would be 25 x 1 x 3 = 75gp for a potion to heal 1d8+3.

You have to have prepared the spell you wish to brew into a potion and spells with a range of personal cannot be made into potions. When you brew the potion you trigger the spell meaning it is spendt for the day, you have to roll a spellcraft or craft alchemy check and the DC is 5+ caster level of the item in the case of the potion you asked about a dc 8.
Brewing a potion takes 1 day.

There is a feat to get around that but it requires a decent int.

Master Alchemist [APG]
Your mastery of alchemy is nearly supernatural.
Prerequisite: Craft (alchemy) 5 ranks.

Benefit: You receive a +2 bonus on Craft (alchemy) checks, and you may create mundane alchemical items much more quickly than normal. When making poisons, you can create a number of doses equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum 1) at one time. These additional doses do not increase the time required, but they do increase the raw material cost.
In addition, whenever you make alchemical items or poisons using Craft (alchemy), use the item's gp value as its sp value when determining your progress (do not multiply the item's gp cost by 10 to determine its sp cost).

That appears to only apply to poisons and alchemical items, not potions.

FYI, I'm currently in the process of moving to a new house.

I've currently been able to keep up with posting for the most part, but there's always the possibility that this could slip; please bot me if needed. Specifically, my internet service is being transferred tomorrow (Sat 19 Aug). This is the riskiest part of my move as regards these PbP games; if I disappear tomorrow, know that I'll be trying desperately hard to get things back in order so that I can play again ASAP. (Hopefully, everything is seamless and you never notice any interruption to my posting.)

In case anyone is wondering what I've been on about for the last twenty pages, a dorn-dergar is sort of a dwarven fantasy version of a meteor hammer. Complicated a bit by the fact that there's also a meteor hammer in the monk weapons, though that one seems to have heads on both ends with a rope in the middle, where the dwarf one is described as single headed and with a chain instead of a rope ("dwarven chain-flail" is another name I've seen used for it). I also imagine it as maybe a little bulkier and not covered in silk, and being used in a rather more straightforward, less acrobatic manner, because, I mean, dwarves. We ain't no fancy dancing elves. Ok, Ivar's pretty nimble for a dwarf; TWF is a prereq for the good dorn-dergar feats, so he's got higher dex than I'd normally use for a strength-based fighter.

Maybe this isn't news to any of you, but I wasn't really familiar with dorn-dergars until I started working on Ivar, so I figure y'all might not be either. There's also a pretty spectacular fight scene using one in Kill Bill, but I figured I'd link the real-life monks first.

I am going over my notes for book two as we are in the stretch on this one, granted the stretch could take months, and I am stuck but the differences in writing style and AP style.

The biggest two things that strike me about this AP is that there is pretty much a linear progression to the main arch and you cannot short circuit it easily. Also the rooms and combat areas are all very small and even for a party of four would be constricting.

For the second book things are much more open and more of a sandbox. Many of the locations are also quite large.

Now why do I tell you this? Mostly because book 2 is going to require a little more attention to detail and pro-activity on the part of the party. In book one, for the most part, there are hallways and doors and you just pick which one is next. For book 2 at many times there is the equivalent of a settlement and you will have to work it out.

The other books all have different approaches as well but that is neither here nor there.

Cheers.

PS: The board is pretty slow today and I am watching my daughter so to much time to think about this stuff.

I'll never be far from internet, so I intend to keep posting throughout, but it will probably be only once per day, and if I'm not up when I happen to be on, I might miss a post that day. Hey guys, good news/bad news time. I recently joined the Army, and will be leaving for basic training in two weeks. From 09/19, I won't have internet for, at a minimum, 10 weeks (after Basic, I got to training in my specific job, which is another 16 weeks. I think I'll have internet access at that time, but I'm not 100% certain). While I'd be happy to just go on hiatus for a while and then pop back up later, if you'd rather drop me and find a replacement, I fully understand.

Male Human Steel Hound (Investigator) 7 / Gunslinger 1 | HP: 63/63 | AC: 18 (14 tch, 14 ff) | F +5 R +11 W +7 | Init: +4 Perc: +13/+16 traps | Active Conditions: none

Let me start by just saying, Thank you for serving!

If we are taking a vote, I think the hiatus plan works. We are a decent sized group already anyway.

Male Know Checks | Iron Gods Map ---- Jade Regent Maps ------ Reign of Winter Maps

First congratulations. My brother had a long career in the army and was able to "retire" young and buy a nice house and get college funding.

Regarding the game. From my point of view I am fine with a hiatus and we can see what happens when the time comes. These AP's are written for four players, I am running Jade Regent with four, so going down one should not be a real issue.

I am open to thoughts from the group naturally.

I don't see a need to replace Ivar. If you're able to rejoin later, that's great; we're a larger enough group that we can adapt I'm sure.

I grew up 30 miles east of Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. Well it's 30 miles if you go straight overland. Those roads are twisty to get there. I work in research administration at the VA in Seattle currently. I hope you both don't need my Department for a good long while.

James: Have fun

Vedia: Thank you, I have enough to do in combats at this point.

My most recent post expatiated the exploration of the rest of this level. There really was nothing left to find and in PbP I thoiught it might drag.

Again I welcome feedback as this is my first undertaking in PbP. If this is fustrating or considered bad form let me know.

Male NG Kellid Witch 5/Sorcerer* | HP: 27/30 | AC: 16 12 (12 Tch, 14 10 Fl) | CMB: +1, CMD: 13 (11 Fl) | F: +3, R: +4, W: +5 | Init: +2 | Perc: +11, SM +2 | Speed 30ft | Active conditions: mage armor

I think what you did is fine. One of the common problems in PbP is slow-down due to redundant decision making. If you have inside knowledge that our decisions have no more importance, like here, I think it's fine to hand-wave the RP and just move us along.

One of the biggest problems is doors. It can be a struggle to get a party through a door, because group decision making takes a long time in this format.

It's often recommended to set up a standard door strategy (i.e. Player A searches for traps, Players B & C cover while Player D opens the door, with a standard marching order.) That way you, the GM, can just apply that algorithm whenever we encounter a door without having to delay the game while we all post those actions (which takes hours at best, and could be days at worst).

Spells:
2nd - Acid Arrow, Protection from Technology, 1st—gravity bow[APG], grease, mage armor 0 (at will)—detect magic, light, ray of frost
Female human (Taldan) Wizard 8 AC 17 | T 14 | FF 14 | HP 51/51 | F +5 | R +7 | W +6 | Int +4 | Per +7

I like the standard door procedure idea. I have a feeling we might be facing lots of doors in this particular AP.

Vedia of course will stand in the back out of the way of the door as to not be killed immediately by whatever comes through it.

Male Dwarf Blodrager 1 hp 14/14, Init +2; darkvision 60 ft.; Per +4, AC 17, T12, FF15, F+6, R+2, W-2

I do too. I'd volunteer Ivar for door duty if I wasn't hiatus-ing soon.

Male Know Checks | Iron Gods Map ---- Jade Regent Maps ------ Reign of Winter Maps

I have been putting Uronzeer, Ivar and Augar though the doors first then the others have been coming in.

If you want to set something like automatic checks for traps or what not I can work that in as well. Just let me know.

Great idea on a standard procedure.

I think James should step up and start checking each door for traps first. +9 perception to find them, and +11 to disarm them if found.

Male Know Checks | Iron Gods Map ---- Jade Regent Maps ------ Reign of Winter Maps

I added a bit of standard dialogue for doors to the page of the Tatical Maps document to show standard door procedures. Please feel free to modify it and also keep your bonuses up to date.
