Long, terrible story short, after over a year of limbo my work related hearing started today. So for the next month there will be days where I can't post and some days where I just don't have it in me. The good news is the end is finally in sight. Will get a post up tonight or tomorrow.
Zea of Kintargo
Sorry to hear that, Casssius! Best wishes!
GM, did Nox make that AoO via something akin to the polearm master's immediate action to shorten grip? Because I don't think she threatens the square in that way so I don't provoke from her. But AoOs are always a little tricky for me so I'd love to hear more about it if I'm just not getting it.
Foxy Quickpaw
That is exactly what I went for.
I can't find a clear ruling on the question. But as your casting takes much longer than a swift action and Nox can do the immediate action whenever she wants, you're still provoking when she has it shorthanded and you're in the now threatened area.
But I'm mainly going for the cool here and the exit of the scary lady on a last impressive stab.
Or did I calculate your HP wrong and you're too much in the negatives?
Zea of Kintargo
I'd agree that it's somewhat ambiguous but I would think the immediate action to shorter her grip would need to have been taken before I began casting for my casting to provoke at all. E.g. if I 5ft stepped up and she then shortened her grip as an IA then I began casting I agree it would provoke. But as I was already up on her and she didn't shorten her grip before my casting, which occurs sort of fast as a magus who casts and still has time to attack, idk if she can pull that off. But if she does have that polearm master feature, then agreed that it's ambiguous, afaik.
My hp is negative but ok. I'm just discussing this as I don't doubt we'll fight her again. I assume that 17 extra damage wouldn't have knocked her out.
Foxy Quickpaw
Nope, she had enough HP to take that too.
About fighting her again - I'm not sure. AP wise she is out now, with the usual 'can work as a recurring villain'. But she for sure won't appear in a situation that is as easy for you as it was now.
There is still some searching and looting to do and the investigation you came for. But combat is over (once you take care about the Asmodean and the still blinded one from the color spray) and you earned yourself level 4.

Cassius, what 2nd level spell are you picking up? I want to avoid overlap.
Zea gains:
2 arcane spells in spellbook
5 skill ranks+2 background
+8 hp
+1 bab
+1 ref
2 2nd-level spells per day
Spell recall
+1 dex
Realized I had some slight errors in my point buy while leveling up which are now fixed. None of my attacks, hp, or saves are changed. Just my cha-based skills are a little lower.
GM: Can I put a rank in linguistics to learn sign language? Could be really useful for Saul and I to pick it up so we can scout together and communicate quietly.

Drow sign language? Which will work like a charm, until you notice, that you do most secret missions at night and you can see naught. :D
Of course you can.

Sure, I'll go lingustics to get sign language. It can be something we work out in RP.
I'll level tonight too... 1/2 HD + 1, right?
Foxy Quickpaw
You have to decide at 2nd level if you roll, or if not.
Depending on your decision you get your HP for the rest of your character's career. And I discourage rolling by offering an above average non rolling progression. Because I hate to see character builds go into the gutter because of a few s+@&ty rolls.

Alright, Saul isn't messing around anymore. I took 2 ranks in linguistics. I now know sign language and Celestial. Saul is smart. He learned it by listening to Fhingle.
Level 4 is interesting for a sleuth. Now my luck points can do a few more things, and as an investigator I can do studied strike now.
Though this is probably my last level as a investigator. The sleuth really is a terrible archetype. They take away all extracts-- forever-- and despite that you don't get any new archetypes abilities from levels 5-20.

Good call. Cassius isn't like most casters I've played, who were blasters really. Right now I'm going with either Protection from Law Communal or Mirror Hideaway, just because of the mirror thing.
What do you guys think? He's probably best a support caster for now.
Cassius Sacero
I can see Cassius eventually having damaging powers. But he's still basically Sam Malone vs devil Nazis. There is also the fact that most "blaster" spells are fire-based, which isn't great fighting infernal things.
Zea of Kintargo
Here are cool ones: Invisibility, glitterdust, web.
It's up to you! Zea will generally choose good touch spells with a couple of awesome utility or other spells thrown in.

I saw the grassy area and figured that led to the out of doors? I thought that was where the guy was running. In any case, happy to just move on from the obvious combat end (though Saul only has 3 HP, I was wondering you you were going to try to take me out. :) )
Foxy Quickpaw
Hehe, no. Take down half the group with the minions, after the BBEG has left? That I don't need.
Feel free to search the whole Fantasmagorum, what you'd need of that and what you want to take away.
There is the issue that Nox didn't leave any loots, which would have netted you about 5 grand. I'll come up with something.

Soul Tome (Su) Whenever a scrivenite deals Intelligence
damage, the stolen knowledge manifests as a soul tome
in its possession. A new soul tome is created for each
different creature that a scrivenite damages in this way, and
further Intelligence damage dealt to that creature causes
the soul tome to swell and become more elaborate. This
Intelligence damage can be restored naturally over time,
by magic, or by a creature reading from its own soul tome
in order to restore the stolen memories. Every 30 minutes
spent in study heals 1 point of Intelligence damage.
A creature who takes an amount of Intelligence
damage equal to its Intelligence score in this way falls
comatose. Once comatose, the victim doesn’t heal ability
damage naturally and must be revived using magic or
by destroying the soul tome. A break enchantment or
restoration spell cast on the soul tome restores the stolen
memories imprisoned in the book and restores any
Intelligence damage affecting the victim.
Any creature can spend 30 minutes reading a soul
tome in order to learn the secrets and knowledge that
the target once possessed. A soul tome is always written
in the target’s native tongue. No check is necessary to
read the book. The contents of a soul tome can vary
wildly. Some may contain only minor trivia about the
creature’s life, while others might contain important
secrets. Soul tomes have hardness 0 and 5 hit points.
They crumble to dust once the stolen knowledge within
them has been reclaimed or restored. The soul of a
creature whose memories are recorded in a soul tome is
not prevented from going on to the afterlife.

Does that mean we have a soul tome (maybe more like a pamphlet) for Zea?
Zea of Kintargo
Haha! I think it'd be in infernal. If Zea wasn't already red, you'd see her blushing!
I took elemental touch and invisibility as my 2nd level spells.

They also tend to be lawful.
But... evil!
