Quote:I remember hearing they had slightly different rules to a regular scenario. Not only that, but slightly different rules depending on the special. Here's the repeatability breakdown per special:
Multi-table specials
2-00 (tiers 1-2, 3-6, & 7-8, once each tier)
3-99 (tiers 1-4, & 5-8, once each tier)
3-98 (tiers 1-4, & 3-6, can be played twice & each playthrough can be in any tier)
4-99 (subtiers 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, fully repeatable)The above is just for playing, if you GM you can get a separate chronicle still. So for example 2-00 you can get up to 6 chronicles if you played and GM'ed every tier.
Thanks for the info redeux.
A follow up question: are you able to play the same special with the same character but on a different tier? Or must you be playing with a different character than the first play through?

You cannot. They are still treated as the same adventure for that purpose so it needs to be a different character each time you play/GM.

can you still use a replay boon to replay 03-99 if you've already used up both tiers?

So, I had planned to sign up to GM a nonrepeatable 1-4 or 3-6, but several of the ones I'm interested in already have signups.
Unofficial interest check for:
2-17 (Lost Maid of Anactoria): I think this may be long for a convention, but I really liked it. Did someone recruit for a 2-17 run recently? I feel like I recently saw it.
2-21 (In Pursuit of Water): This was okay fun when I played it. I didn't read the description and brought a water-themed character. Would not recommend that, but would recommend the scenario overall. I don't think I've seen it offered recently.
I haven't played either of those, so mark me as interested.

ATTENTION: ALL PAIZO BOARD GMS
First, as the Venture Agent for this lodge, I want to thank you for stepping up (many of you repeatedly) and running games. Your efforts are recognized and greatly appreciated!
Further, I would like to remind all GMs to log their games in the Data Tracking Form. This helps us keep track of things, including your efforts, and to let the powers that be know that we're still around and there's still interest in this Lodge.
It also keeps me from having to try to do it by hand.
The link is at the top of the page. It takes less than a minute to complete the tracking form (probably less than half a minute.)
If you have any questions about how do to so, please feel free to drop a message here or PM me.
Happy Gaming!

This may be a stupid question, but is there a way to see the results? I think I reported a recent game, but there's no feedback to acknowledge it and I don't want to double-report or not report.

Correct.
For particular events, like the ongoing Outpost convention, the event organizer needs to be informed when a game has been completed, but the organizer is responsible for, and often handles, the reporting. If you have completed a game that you ran here on the boards under your own event, then you, as the GM, are responsible for reporting the game. Once reported, the game should show up under the "Sessions" tab for the event. The events are listed under the "GM/Event Coordinator" tab und under your "My Organized Play" link within the "My Account" menu here on the boards.
You can check to see if a game for Outpost or another event, including one of your own, has been reported by checking the "Sessions" tab found under your "My Organized Play" link within the "My Account" menu here on the boards. If a game you ran or played does not appear there, then you should contact the organizer for that event to get it properly reported.
If the event is managed by RPGChronicles (like Outpost is), you can also go to the last page and check the Reporting status.
The Data Tracking Form is not used for convention games and it is no used for reporting.
I highly encourage GMs to fill out the Data Tracking Form at the same time they report their games to Paizo as this keeps the tracker up-to-date and makes it easier for the GMs to know if it has been filled out.
A GM that is unsure whether or not a particular game has been added to the Data Tracking Form should reach out to a Venture Officer for the boards (feel free to PM me) and request confirmation.

I've been asked to GM a non-repeatable game for the second time. If I wish to assign this to a character, do I need to spend a replay point?
And is there a way to report that? I see replay toggles for players in the reporting but not for GMs.
Or do I just assign the game to a null character (-2000) and just get the ACP and table credits?
GM Tiger |
You can’t assign another GM chronicle if the game is not repeatable.
phaeton_nz |
OK - I wasn't sure that reporting can be done with a blank character number. I'll let the person who does the reporting know that.
Thank you.

In the old PFS guide, I remember seeing a ruling that characters with an animal companion, familiar, or even an Eidolon were still only allowed to take one action for a skill challenge.
I am not seeing that in the new Lorespire PFS guide. Does anyone know where that is or if it was removed deliberately?
GM redeux |
It's under the Character Options page, Secrets of Magic sanctioning info:
Eidolons: Eidolons are not PCs, so they do not count as PCs for effects that scale based on the number of PCs or players.
Eidolons and summoners share a pool of actions. As a result, for Victory Point/success counting systems that allow each PC a limited number of chances to roll, either the summoner or the eidolon can attempt each check. The summoner's player chooses for each attempt which of the two rolls. Any direct consequences of failure apply to whichever creature rolled the check.
This rule does not mean that in general only one of the summoner or eidolon need to roll to deal with adverse situations. If everyone in a room needs to attempt a saving throw against a hazard, both the eidolon and the summoner need to attempt that saving throw. If every PC needs to overcome a particular obstacle in order to continue (such as crossing a chasm), the eidolon and summoner both need to get past the obstacle.

Hello there, I'm new to society and to the remaster rules but I'm positive about giving it a try.
Welcome. You are certainly in the right place.
If you don't have a character created yet, all PFS characters need to be registered. Which is done on the Paizo forums here. From the 'My Account' on the banner at the top of the page -> 'Organized Play' -> 'Create a character'.
There are also the rules for creating characters on the Lorespire pages.

I've played a couple of your games, but if you aren't sure what you want to DM, pick up a couple of Starfinder bounties, that way the commitment is only 2-5 weeks instead of 2-3 months. There are 12 Starfinder bounties. Pick one or more of those bounties, just don't overload yourself, I'll play. Or Pathfinder 2e bounties.
Starfinder Bounties 9-12 are less than a year old when gameday starts, which means many people still haven't played them yet, even though they are repeatable, but feel free to run any.Watery Soup |

Are you comfortable GMing 9-12s? I have an 11th level character that can only play 4-15 and the most recent one (5-18?), so I'm definitely keeping my eye on those.

PaleDim: I just looked at the spreadsheet, and saw that GM Tiger is running 4-15. I'm sure that any 9-12 would fill, but I'm "cancelling" my previous opinion.
I'm looking to play #3-14 and #4-08, both Part 2 of 2-scenario arcs, and I've played both Parts 1 (#3-09 and #4-04, respectively). Unfortunately, both characters that played Parts 1 have leveled out, but I'd still like to find out what happens.
I haven't played the following scenarios from Seasons 3-4, which I'm only mildly requesting to scratch my completionist itch: 3-11, 3-14, 3-16, 3-18, 4-03, 4-08, 4-14, 4-15
---
I'll also jump on the "What should I GM?" bandwagon.
I strongly prefer to play before I run, so there are a bunch in Seasons 3-5 that I won't run quite yet. There are also a few scenario in series that I'd like to run as a series, so I wouldn't do during a convention.
Season 1:
Levels 1-4: 1-02 (I've said previously I didn't intend to run it, but I'm actually kind of open to it now)
Levels 3-6: 1-19
Levels 5-8: 1-21, 1-24, 1-25
Season 2:
Levels 1-4: 2-01 (this one was tough IIRC), 2-03
Levels 3-6: 2-04 (although I might want to save this to run as a series with other Arcadian scenarios from Seasons 3-4), 2-12
Levels 5-8: 2-07, 2-08, 2-10 (is there another orc scenario in later seasons that couples with 2-10?)
GM PaleDim |
Okie, I looked over all of the suggestions from everyone and submitted to run PF2 #3-18.
Thanks for the input!

SOLD.
I registered for #1-21 despite some of the negative reviews. Apparently there's some lore stuff that's available in PFS1 scenarios, so I'll look that up and try to augment the scenario. I think PbP would be a good format to run it, and with a month plus, I have time to find what I can about the Maze.
There have been a bunch of other Maze scenarios in subsequent seasons, so it'd be more relevant than 1-24/1-25.

My 7th-level Ancestor Oracle is looking for a PBP game that she can get into before she is forced to be remastered. I would like her to have one last hurrah before I have to figure out how to rebuild her. Is anyone running anything before August 12th?
I'm full on GMing, so I can't run anything. Sorry!
But a few phrases have brought up some general questions I have about the rebuild.
1. "forced to be remastered": I was under the impression that no character would be forced to be remastered, that characters built before Player Core 1 came out could continue taking un-Remastered options. Is that incorrect?
2. "August 12": Is that date significant? I thought that we had until the end of the calendar year 2024 to use the Rebuild boon.
Hilary Moon Murphy Contributor |
Hey Watery.
So... I think the best way of answering this is to link to this post by Alex which in turn links to this document.
Because they share the same name, all Oracle mysteries are automatically updated to use the new Cursebound condition. As such, oracles gain no benefit from choosing not to use their Remaster Rebuild immediately and are strongly encouraged to do so.
Changes to Oracles are extensive, and because the new oracle is treated basically as an errata due to the same names being retained, Tess cannot be grandfathered and her mechanics suddenly just... break.
As Blake's Tiger put it, "not rebuilding an Oracle results in a non-functioning pile of mechanics."
I can rebuild Tess, but I want one last chance to play her as she is before I figure out how to remaster her. I don't know whether she is staying an oracle or becoming psychopomp sorcerer, a champion of Pharasma, or... something else. I will hold off until I actually have the PF Core 2 in my hands and consider my options for her. I want something that will work, storywise. Maybe Pharasma or her morrigna mom will give her a new calling.
As for August 12th... That is when the changes must take effect according to Alex's post.
Hmm

Just clarifying: I have an Investigator/Alchemist and I'm not loving the initial look at the Alchemist archetype.
So I have an option of continuing to play him under the Core Rulebook rules, but I must also play his pre-Remaster Investigator chassis as well? Or is the Alchemist dedication be treated as errata and its pointless not to update if that's the portion I don't like?

Used to be a 3 star (almost 4) with PFS1 between online campaigns and tabletops. Stopped GMing with the advent of PF2, but have gotten back into it in small doses in both settings.
Was thinking of beginning more PFS sessions as GM for PF2 -- have fully abandoned PF1. What are the things I should know about PFS now especially the online/forum community.
Are there recommendations for starter scenarios for GMs -- and is there a cohort of players who want to perhaps play some of the early seasons to catch up on the lore/story/metaplot together?
LMK what I should know....

The Bounties and Quests are 1/2 hour adventures if you want to start with something shorter/simpler than a full scenario. They make a great way to ease yourself into GMing.
I'm particularly fond of Quests 1 & 4. Both have great themes and make good use of replayable elements. The initial bounty line 1-17 has a bit of difficulty scaling in early ones that's suboptimal towards fun, but nothing that makes them unplayable.
The 2nd set of Quests (14+) are all level 1-4 2 hours and pretty good.
Looking back at low level scenarios I gave 5 Stars:
1-07 Flooded King's Court is hilarious in a good way and well put together. Nothing that makes it difficult to run.
1-05 Trailblazer's Bounty feels really nice, makes sense as a Pathfinder Mission and doesn't have anything that makes it hard to run.
1-12 Burden of Envy is really good, but it has some custom systems and requires some GM creativity to get necessary information across. Wouldn't recommend this one as a starter GM, but it's still great.
1-03 Mosquito Witch is real good. But it's good because of the vibes and you have to be ready to present a mystery to the players in a way that keeps them engaged and guessing.
I do also think Intro 1 & 2 (The Second Confirmation and United in Purpose) are both reasonable starting places, and are nicely level 1-2 so there's less scaling complications to worry about.
I'd skip 3-01, 4-01, 5-01. All of them are 1-4 replayable season intros. They do an okay job of introducing the metaplot for the season, but none of them make good use of their repeatable elements or are otherwise particularly good.
---
Although always my biggest piece of advice to GMs is to think about what you've seen other GMs do that you liked and do that, and don't do the things they did that you didn't like.
Watery Soup |
Looking back at low level scenarios I gave 5 Stars ...
I think 1-12 Burden of Envy is the best Season 1 scenario, any level. It feels heroic (the PCs are tasked with something that feels significant and beneficial to the world as a whole), but it does have a lot of mechanical complexity.
Mosquito Witch is 1-02, not 1-03. (1-03 is the first Gravelands one)
I'll also second 1-05 and 1-07 as good scenarios in general, they feel heroic, there are fewer mechanics issues than 1-12.
I'll add 1-04 and 2-13 as GM-friendly scenarios. The plots are very linear, but because of that, they're straightforward to run. 1-04 has one really weird mechanic at the end.
I'll also add 1-15 because leshys are fun, and also because there's a tie-in to PFS1 10-12 (Breath of the Dragonskull), so it's kind of fun for PFS1 GMs.
GM Tiger |
