Gameday XII announcement

Okay folks, it has been a week now and lots of GMs are starting to register games. We want to give everyone a chance to see what is being run (both GMs and players), so here is the link to the event listing.

More games will be added every few games as GMs register their tables. Remember that no signups will be allowed before the August 7 date (and anyone that manages to add themselves as a player before will will be deleted).

Starting August 3rd. the cost of Geniekin like Bitty will only be 40 ACP!

Could you play the Soldier in Campaign Mode on, say, a Bounty!?

Even though bounties are adventure mode, They still require pfs characters. The org play guide does contain rules for pf2e playtest but not starfinder field-test (which is smaller and less formal than a playtest) so we couldn't use the field test on a pfs character.

So no, i don't believe we could use field test for bounties or other adventures that require a pfs character. You could, however, use them for something else in adventure mode as long as the adventure doesn't require pregens (see link for general rules and an adventures sanctioning for exceptions). Notably the beginner box or one-shot product line would make great shorter adventures for this purpose. Or you can just run bounties/whatever for no pfs credit

From 'Rage of Elements' - You can speak all the languages of your kinetic elements (Sussuran for air, Petran for earth, Pyric for fire, Talican for metal, Thalassic for water, Muan for wood).

The elemental languages were Aquan(water), Auran(air), terran(earth) and ignan(fire).

Are the names in RoE, new names for the same thing or is my undine character going to have to learn Thalassic as well as Aquan?

Per the 2E Remaster preview, all of the elemental languages have been updated. Thalassic is the new name for Aquan.

It will be to do with copyright and WotC I guess. The names of the languages are probably WotC property.

I suspect the alignment changes are related as well, but that is just a guess.

There is no copyright possible on the names.

Aquan is trademarked Deodorant soap and Bottled mineral drinking water.

Auran has trademarks for Banking; financial investment brokerage, and ELECTRONIC INTERACTIVE ENTERTAINMENT PRODUCTS. Note that neither Hasbro nor WotC have that trademark and are themselves at risk on this.

Terran has too many to list. Go search TESS if you are interested.

I could not find any for Ignan.

Given the above, as a layman it does not seem to me that IP protection would have required these changes.

Why the replacement was done is somewhat beside the point.

Personally, I think it was just because the new names are cooler and more unique to the setting.

Ratfolk and Lizardfolk probably can't be copyrighted either. But Ysoki and Iruxi are just cooler names for them.

In that case, I guess I'll amend my character sheets to replace Aquan with Thalassic(Aquan) etc.

Gameday XII General Seating now open!

General seating is now open for all players. While there is no limit to the number of games you can sign up for, we do ask that everyone do their best not to overcommit. We also would ask that you not sign up for tons of games at the very beginning, to give everyone the chance to find a seat at a table. Sign up for a few, then wait a day or two to give others the chance.

Remember that the 1 game per character rule still applies to PBP games, so no signing up to play in multiple games with the same character.

Event Listing

For anyone interested, it looks like you can purchase the Shoony Boon twice. I recently purchased the Shoony boon discounted a few weeks ago at 80 credits obviously, it says one-time purchase. The next one is at a million or so, but that isn't what I'm referring to. But the the non-discounted one it seems I can still purchase at 160 credits, thus having two Shoony.

If a wizard character has Flexible Spellcasting Dedication so they have a spell collection instead of fixed spells in slots, are they still able to use Arcane Thesis(Spell substitution) to swap spells in and out of that collection using 10 minutes of study?

Just going with what the archetype says:

Some of your class feats or features might rely on the fact that you prepare spells in spell slots. While some class feats might no longer work or be necessary with the flexible spellcaster archetype, in many cases you can make a simple replacement and continue using the class feat. The following class feats simply require replacing “a spell you have prepared” or “a prepared spell” for “a spell in your collection” or “a spell slot.”

And applying that to Spell Substitution Thesis, I would propose:

"You can spend 10 minutes to empty one of your prepared spell slots the spells in your collection and prepare a different spell from your spellbook in its place."

But I don't know if PFS has a ruling of its own on that already.

Flexible Spellcasting Dedication --- man this is a wierd thing. Is it worth the pain of having so few spells available to cast? I can see myself going with it on a cleric/warpriest, but on a wizard I think its waaaaaay too much of a punishment, as I feel like 3 spells per level is already low enough in any kind of game save for PFS play where it's just "enough".

Well, after much theorycrafting, I think that what finally killed any chance of using it is that it also burns a class feat.

But on the plus side, unrestricted heightening of spells. If you were playing a mid-high level campaign, that would be a big plus.
