Ok,
As it now officially Dec 25th where I am, it's time to hand out presents.
Everyone get's their choice of one of the following :
1) One 'I rolled a 20', usable at any point they want (not a crit).
2) One Automatic Crit Confirmation, usable at any point they want.
3) One Crit Negation (Negate a crit affecting them), usable at any point they want.
Happy Holidays.

Connor of McIntyre |

Ditto. I still can't afford a crit-hit.
Merry Christmas!

mdt |

No problem,
I expect this week to be slow. I just had some time after cooking a turkey, a roast duck, mashed potatoes, gravy, helping with stuffing and veggies, and running out to get a pie. So I took the opportunity to relax for the first time since 8AM and posted a day early.

Alys |

I think I will have the free confirm.
Ooh level up. Definitely going to take that rank in profession sailor, i still remember vividly how in another game the whole party was riding a river boat without a proficient sailor.
How do we generate HP for second level again?

Alys |

Not sure what blade skill to take. Finesse is nice but until i get better dex it's no more than +1 to hit. Daggers, alter blade and two-handed throw would all allow me a ranged attack, which seems useful. Each with its own advantages. A typical case of analysis paralysis

Alys |

Two more questions:
1) just so i get it right, all our stuff from before being taken to the library (including loot from kol's place) is gone and we have a 1000 gp budget to get new stuff?
2) if i want to use the time to retrain, can i instead of retraining the archetype just use the class level retraining rules? Because of the large number of first level class features for soul knife retraining to for example soulbolt would take 20 days, while retraining an entire class level would only be 7 days.

mdt |

HP : Your choice, either 1/2 HD + 1 (IE: for a D8 class it's 4+1 = 5), or you roll in the discussion thread. Once you choose a method, you use it going forward.
Equipment : Yes, you basically get 1000gp worth of stuff. But don't delete the stuff you had, it's still yours, just in storage until the end of the trip. YOu can sell it (including the loot) at that time, or retrieve it.
Retrain : Yes, you can use whichever method is most efficient, so retraining the entire class level is fine. Just make sure to take the retraining costs out of your 1000gp.

Alys |

Okay i go with 1/2+1
I think after having been almost shot to death while unsucessfully waving her blade around alys will try to reshape her mindblade into something more long-ranged. Going with a short range mindbolt.
Is there possibly enough time to also retrain a feat? It's just one week and perhaps a day between kols hideout and the library so i wpuld assume no. It's not absolutely necessary either.

mdt |

Official time line :
Kol to Library : 3 days.
Library to Leaving for hub : 7 days.
Waiting on hub : 3 days.
You have enough time for the 7 days to retrain the level, but not the feat. You can however, retrain the feat on the ship during travel, if you can find a trainer on the ship who has the feat you want to train to.

Connor of McIntyre |

Far be it from me to tell you what to do with your character, Alys, far from it, but I've never seen a Soulknife played before. I was interested to see what you would do over the various levels. However, given the propensity of cap-and-ball and flintlocks in our game, I can see the need for heavier firepower.
That leaves Alister as our melee fighter. So I know where to send my Astral Constructs after to provide a flank. :)
Alister: da Hammer in melee
Reaghar: mid-range rays, luck changer
Sammark: mid-range rays, other
Alys: short-to-far-range firearm-like bolts of psychic energy
Connor: short-range-created Astral Constructs, battlefield control
Selvan: the center connector
Elrohir: far-range sniper
What this means in a typical battle is that Alister needs speed to reach the BBEM (Big Bad Enemy Monster), Elrohir gets dropped off in the back to start sniping, Connor manifests flanking attacks, while the rest of us circle and take out the secondary targets.
Tactical confirmation, Selvan? :)

mdt |

Just a note about leaving someone far out.
Had a group who raced over a hilltop to attack a fortified position. The BBEG was a half-dragon witch with a scythe. The witch took off, flew past everyone when they entered melee, and chopped their sniper witch to kibble, then their archer sniper to kibble.

Alys |

Well the good news concerning our tactical diversity is that i have close range expert, so i can shoot safely even while in melee. At 12th level im pretty sure ill pick up improved close range as well so i can threaten as well, basically giving me all the benefits of a ranged character with none of its drawbacks.
Also i believe selvan also does a melee thing.
Personally i believe in the wolf pack strategy: everyone whose main deal is dealing damage, gangs up on the glass cannon, and stragglers are picked off one by one afterwards. Because the only damage that matters is the damage that takes a guy out of commission.

Connor of McIntyre |

mdt not's the only one who can find representative pictures! :) Because anime in your psionics only makes it better.
Astral Constructs - Meat Shields for Vegans
Nomads (anime pic)
Shapers (The Melancholy of H.S.)
Soulknife (larger and different)
Force Screen (Sue Richards, F4 movie)
Graft Weapon (Full Metal Alchemist)
Psionic Revivify (The Dark Crystal)
Energy Ray (Fire) (Krull)
Defensive Precognition (Jedi)
Vigor (The Melancholy of H.S.) (when used properly)

One word: Ow.
This being one of the few Pathfinder games where I'm with other psionics, and not just the only psion in the party, I have to worry about the usual buff powers, shield powers, mind-shield powers, and such. I'll be picking up Thought Shield eventually. And I must have Psychic Reformation so I can play Dr. Who when necessary. :)

Sammark Bellefont |

Sam is close to mid at this point. He's now got Hammer and took weapon finesse long ago. Once he's got Psionic Meditation and Deep Focus, he'll be doing terrible things to people.

Connor of McIntyre |

Oh I just had a wicked thought. Alys needs target practice. Connor has 11 pp now (strangely, the same as his hit points.) Connor can make 11 Astral Constructs a day, 2-hour duration, with wings, using the Utility option. 11 flying targets for Alys to practice on. Connor can make them fly just outside the ship, in the air. They'll be Small-sized, but that shouldn't matter for target practice. If I use Ectoplasmic Creation a couple of the flying constructs can hold bulls-eye target sheets. Elrohir and anyone else can get in on the off-hours target practice as well.
Of course, I had planned on 11 helpers to scrub the decks to keep the Second Mate happy, but that was in roleplay.

Alister McRauth |

Sorry for the silence, been a busy few days. There's the Holidays, and then there are family things. My little brother's birthday is today, mine, my twin's, and my grandmother's is coming up on the 30th, and I think there might be one or two more.
I've gotten Level 2 Alister up, but I haven't done gear at all. My gear should be simple enough, though.

mdt |

On a side note, my Gobby Barbarian in the Kingmaker campaign I'm playing on here finally got to attack something.
He ran over, pulling his greatsword as he ran, raged, and rolled a 19 to hit. Then rolled a 20 for the confirmation. Using Power Attack.
He rolled 33 hp damage on the first attack he made in front of everyone. :)
Couldn't have gone better if I'd written it to spec. :)

Hey, Alister, I'm a twin too. Congrats and Happy Birthday.

Connor of McIntyre |

Reaghar, you can add 200 gp of psionic tattoo inks and needles to your equipment list. Just holding on to them won't do Connor any good without the feat. When we get time Connor needs 1 Psionic Tattoo of Call Item (1 pp, 20 min, 10 gp limit), 3 Psionic Tattoos of Force Screen (1 pp, 2 min.), and 1 Psionic Tattoo of Astral Construct (1 pp, 3 menus, 4 rounds). Connor will use one Power Stone of Vigor to make one Psionic Tattoo of Vigor (2 pp, 10 temp hp, 2 min.) to give to Alister. That will leave you 50 gp worth of ink & needles to do with as you will. If you want Connor's other Power Stones of Vigor or Entangling Ectoplasm, just ask. :)
Don't forget the one free Psionic Tattoo of Natural Healing (1 pp, 3 hp), and one free bloodblock Connor gives each member of the team. :)

Phase 1 Assignment!
Each player will take a handfull of crew and flesh them out. This is not intended to be a full fledged NPC build. I just need a basic statblock (see below).
Cadets are 1st level PC classes.
Ordinary Seamen are 2nd level NPC classes.
Able Seamen are 3rd level mix of NPC and PC classes.
Bosun is a 5th level mix of NPC and PC classes.
Officers are 5th to 8th level PC classes (first mates/Engineering Chiefs are 8th, second are 7th, third are 6th, everyone else is 5th).
Middy's are 1st level NPC classes.
Sample Statblock
Kiana Sunbane Reville

I'll make the rest. Standard races for the rest (IE: races you guys could have picked at startup). No time limit, but sooner is better, shouldn't take more than 5-10 minutes per statblock. When they are all done, I'll consolidate them into a doc and make a link to it.

Elrohir |

So my Chief Engineer is 8th, my Chief Steward is 5th?
Should we stick with the same class restrictions for magickal classes we had for our PCs?
Is there anything else we should know build wise? Do we worry about gear at all? If so standard wealth? Same percentage split we had or different?

mdt |

Engineer 8th, steward 5th, yes Flick.
Same class restrictions. So no adept npcs.
For gear, don't worry about it too much. You can give them an appropriate weapon and armor (IE: Firearm, polearm, bow, whatever), and appropriate armor. Beyond that, don't worry about cash.
Level 1 : Normal Weapon/Armor
Level 2/3 : MW Weapon/Armor
Level 4-7 : +1 Weapon/Armor
Level 8 : +2 Weapon/Armor

Reaghar of Donough |

if someone could take care of the chunk i am supposed to do, it would happen in a more timely manner.
I have 3 characters (including Reaghar) to do wealth for and 2 to level up (including Reaghar). I will get these tasks done this weekend, but coming up with NPC stat blocks is pushing my abilities (gotta help a friend with his wife's car today and a number of errands tomorrow to prepare for new year's eve)

mdt |

No time limit on it Reaghar, if it takes you a couple of weeks, that's fine. If you don't want to do it, you don't have to. It's not mandatory. Anyone that doesn't want to, can turn it down.

Connor of McIntyre |

Connor - Edge (Bosun), Edge (Chief Cook), 3 Able, 3 Ordinary
I can get mine done by 30 Dec - Monday night.

Sammark Bellefont |

There may be problems down the line but Sam won't throw the first punch. Also character development. Remember, I'm applying Sam's Pride drawback to all Strix. So a permanent -2 to diplomacy and sense motive.

Reaghar of Donough |

Equipment : Yes, you basically get 1000gp worth of stuff. But don't delete the stuff you had, it's still yours, just in storage until the end of the trip. YOu can sell it (including the loot) at that time, or retrieve it.
also, regarding this: there is very little that i wouldnt have been carrying on me in a "mission" like the one we were doing. did EVERYTHING go into storage or just what might have been not on my person?
I likely only would have left my sorceror's kit, scrivener's kit, and 6 gp in inks behind.

mdt |

It's not that Reaghar, you may have missed it.
What happened was, several days after the incident, they kidnapped you in the middle of the night after putting everyone to sleep with psionics.
So what they basically did was kidnap you in the middle of the night, while you were asleep in bed.
I was kind of surprised no one asked how they got dressed.
Everything in your places was put in storage, although they would have retrieved anything you wanted. If you really wanted all your existing equipment, they'd have gotten it for you.
The loot from the hideout is still in evidence because they want to go over it. You'll get it as a 'finders reward' later, if it's not contraband. So if you want your sorcerer's kit, they'll retrieve it. Or if you just want a sorcerer's kit, they'll get you a new one. Same for the inks and scrivnor's kit.
For all intents and purposes, this is a way for the GM to let you 'reset' your equipment at second level to ensure you have enough for WBL. Honestly, I don't think you got out with enough loot to turn 1000ish in GP to 7000ish in GP, because you'd have had to get out with 12,000gp in items, and you didn't.
