Ready to move on? Should we have mdt narrate us to the docks, or do we need some filler prose about packing our bags and sneaking past the watch at the edge of the ship? :)

mdt |

I can move you forward, but I'll need to know what you plan to do to get into the city.
You have several options :
1) Fly over the 50 ft wall in the dead of night. Obvious issue with this is Sammark.
2) Sneak out of the city and enter via a different gate, somewhere away from the docks. Again, Sammark being a problem if you fly.
3) Try to bribe/talk your way past the guards at the docks area gates that lead into the city.

Connor of McIntyre |

I've got Sammark covered - two Astral Constructs with STR 15 making a "human chair" should be able to fly Sammark, albeit at Heavy load, over any walls. He won't be very sneaky with two winged constructs on either side, but doable.

mdt |

The city spans both sides of the river. The river is big and wide, think the amazon. Where the city is built, the river is about 1500 ft across. The city itself is a huge sprawling thing. The buildings themselves are mostly wood, and mostly between 20 and 50 ft tall. The pink section on the map is the docks. Between the docks/river and the city itself is a 50 ft high stone wall. The wall is 10 ft thick at the top, and 20 ft thick at the base (imagine the Great Wall of China around a city). Both halves of the city have the wall. When people have scouted the city, they saw inside the wall buildings are built anywhere from 20 to 80 ft tall, with the larger buildings either stone or a mix of wood and stone, and the smaller buildings all wood.
You can certainly swim down the river, and walk around the walls of the city if you want. You'll have to go quite a ways down river to make sure you aren't seen if you don't want the lookouts on the wall to see you. Even at night, there's lights shining down on the approaches. The whole city screams either isolationist or else paranoid about attacks. Which is at odds with how people have been being treated, as the cats have been fairly relaxed.
Alternately, if you don't want to try to sneak in, you can try to go through a gate, but everyone who's tried has been turned back. You could also bribe your way in (or attempt to at least).

Connor of McIntyre |

So is Sammark ok being flown over a 50 ft wall in the dark of night by two heavily loaded constructs who both have to make a fly check to get him over? :)
A double flight check?
I was thinking we might have to hide out on some rooftops until it was light enough to find a hotel.
Maybe we need a distraction, which an Astral Construct from me can provide. Make a ruckus on the south side while we go across the north side of the barrier. Something harmless, like having the construct take Connor's belt pouch of sneezing powder and sprinkling it on the southside guards, and anybody that comes running to it.

Reaghar of Donough |

i doubt a distraction of a magnitude such as to pull a meaningful number of guards as to weaken defenses on the opposite side would work in our favor, it would put them into high alert.
i would also imagine that they would instead pull reserve forces from sleep shifts rather than half-man the opposite side.

Connor of McIntyre |

So are we into stealth, then? mdt is saying that's pretty hard. Bribing a guard might be nonexistent. We need to do this before first light, before dawn.
Alternative plan: we swim for the other side of the river, for the other side of the city. Problem: Connor can't swim (yet). But he can make Astral Constructs that can swim. So we can make for the other side. Which might be a better idea, since most will assume we are on the docks side of the city.
mdt is saying the 50-foot wall is over the whole city, so it looks like a flight check against roving guards no matter where we go.
mdt, there's no piranha in the river, is there?
How do the cats get from one side of the river city to the other? Ferries?

mdt |

You haven't seen any ferries, you have seen some fishing boats that leave from either side, but they don't cross with sufficient frequency to transfer any real number of people.

Connor of McIntyre |

Now THAT is interesting.
Maybe the "dock side" has "friendly" cat-people, and the "other side" has "non-friendly" cat-people.
So what does everyone want to do? Go for jumping/flying over the dock-side wall, or swimming/flying to the other side?

mdt |

There are steel grates going down. They're usually in the intersections of main streets, with smaller openings on the sides of streets. The smaller openings would be way too small to go down. The larger ones would be out in the open if anyone were around.

mdt |

Yep, but Sammark has to stop biting and scratching long enough for you to fly him up and over.
Unfortunately, that doesn't look like it will happen.
You could try knocking him out, pretend he's B.A. Barrackus.

Connor of McIntyre |

As much as I hate splitting the party, Sammark has the best chance of looking like a Surface-bound native, and that means bribing his way past the guards.
The rest of us can try flying over the top of the walls.
My question is, dock-side or non-dock-side?
Or should we go hide out in the jungle for a few days and then try to get into the city?

mdt |

Ok,
So, I'll let everyone mull over what they want to do. If I don't hear any objections, we'll assume the party is going to split up, with Sammark trying on his own, and everyone else flying 8000 feet up, and then coming down in the middle of the city. My only question for the group on the wing is, port side or non port side of the city.

Reaghar of Donough |

hmm, too bad we didnt think to bring Minor Metamorphosis

Connor of McIntyre |

To not split us up too badly, I'll choose for the group and we'll enter into the same city-half that Sammark goes into.

Connor of McIntyre |

As they are about to work their way down to the street, they are interrupted by a voice. "Wow, что I не мог сделать с wings. I имею I виду, I подумал, что мне good на это возможность jump пять раз my высоты, but чудаками, в прошлом awesome." The common is thickly accented, and everyone has trouble understanding it. The voice is eminating from a tall lanky feline that looks like a cheetah. He's perched on the edge of the roof, tail hanging off the edge.
Y'know, it's times like these I'm reminded just how many of my mid-level psionic characters have Natural Linguist. I mean, sure, I was ready to take as many Psion/Wilder healing powers as possible to make up for our party deficiency, but I'm also reminded how useful it is to always know the right language.
Maybe we can talk our way to a tavern...
Edit: now I'm really regretting not giving Sammark my psicrystal for tracking purposes. Selvan, anything you can do on your end to find Sammark in the city?

Connor of McIntyre |

People were somewhat more intelligent in North Carolina and most stayed home. The snow should start melting today.

Connor of McIntyre |

I think "Team Rooftop" is waiting on Selvan to comment about the cheetah on the corner?

Connor of McIntyre |

Just a note, half the players still have not put down their languages on their character sheets. I'm going to say Auran is off the list. Please put them down thanks.
I'm confused! I had Auran - so I intend on using it unless told to retro the conversation.

mdt |

I only said the people who hadn't put them down couldn't since I just used it. :)
For int bonuses, you can choose from Elven, Halfling, and Strix. If you put points in linguistics, any language. If you have an 18 Int or higher, you may take Auran, since that's the only other one you could learn from high int.

Elrohir |

Wait, are you saying we don't get our normal racial bonus languages?
Do I get Elf and Common as normal still?

Connor of McIntyre |

Connor will let everyone do dialogue if they wish, so we can see who did and did not follow the cheetah to the speakeasy with the gnoll. (I.e., I'll post a reply to the gnoll tomorrow.)
But 100 gp for ID papers? Out of the 13 pp and 200 gp' worth of gems we divided up, that's a chunk of change. 10 pp each.

Elrohir |

Alright, so I would get Elven and Common but I do not get to choose from among Celestial, Draconic, Gnoll, Gnome, Goblin, Orc, and Sylvan, for my extra language?
I guess that makes sense, just double checking.

mdt |

The only extra languages spoken on the islands are Auran, Halfling, and Strix. So those are the ones you have to choose from for extra languages from High Int.
Linguistics points are unrestricted.
