Hey there Frog Gods,
I asked this question earlier in the thread but I think it got overlooked. No big deal for me, but I just got a message from another poster asking about it, so I thought I'd see what you guys think before I do anything.
I've been making full-colour reproductions of the Rappan Athuk maps in Photoshop for my own game. Do you have a problem with me sharing them, possibly in this thread, or maybe privately (through email/PM/etc), for anyone who might have a use for them?
They're created in Photoshop and have no copyright issues I can think of - the only non-original images in them are free-to-use textures and some objects created by users on the Dundjinni forums. But, of course, the "shape" of the map is all yours. So I wouldn't want to cross any boundaries here.
Thanks!

I am really not in a position to answer this (or at least not with an answer you all want to hear). Bill or Matt Finch would be the ones who would know for certain but as I understand it Maps are IP and do not fall under the OGL. Once you start taking that and changing it in Photoshop is where you lose me on the legality. This is one reason we offered the D20Pro files. Not only are the interactive and dynamic but the IP is encrypted which means we don't get into the grey zone on the map issue. So I'll give the other frogs a heads up to see if they have a better response.

Alice,
The quick answer is yes, you can share the maps. The longer answer is that we'd like you to put (somewhere, in medium-sized print) "Map copyright Frog God Games, LLC, talesofthefroggod.com" onto the map somewhere. You can put your own copyright on there as well, as: "Cartography by ..."
Also, this would have to remain a fan creation; in other words, you can't charge for it.
...and we'd love to see it!
PS: just in case, we reserve the right to ask for the map to be taken down, but we don't anticipate having to do that. This gives us the room to avoid having it show up next to "Pictures from the Book of Super-Erotic Fantasy" or something else we didn't anticipate.
Thanks for being a fan!

Excellent, Matthew! :) I'm glad there's a solution that makes everyone happy. Frog Gods, feel free to do whatever you like with these maps!
Few notes first of all:
* I'm no professional map maker - just someone who followed a few tutorials over at the Cartographer's Guild. As such the quality/style between pretty much every map I make is pretty different and there are tonnes of areas where I could improve. (I'm learning new things every time I make one!) So I appreciate constructive criticism and feedback :)
* Secondly, these maps are most likely not at a big enough resolution to be useful for any kind of live play. I originally had all maps at 2x their current resolution but my computer couldn't handle it... :P They should be fine enough for virtual tabletops, however.
* Lastly, I consider these an artistic interpretation of the original maps, not an exact 1-to-1 correspondence. Sometimes things may be in slightly different places, rooms at slightly different sizes, etc. However I strived to make it as faithful to the original as possible!
So here's the maps! Players, please keep out!
1-C (with labels & secret doors/traps)
1-C (with labels, without secret doors/traps)
1-C (without labels, with secret doors)
1-C (without labels, without secret doors/traps)
I've only been making these as I need them - but if other people like these maps I'll see what I can do to start making other levels sooner. :)

Thanks all :)
@brvheart, I've never used D20Pro, but I'm sure they would. You would have to add things like fog of war yourself (usually not difficult) and maybe make the map smaller (depending on how large a file the software can handle) - maybe just cropping certain rooms with encounters out to use.

Since Alice has kindly given permission to use them when I finish with Levels 11 - 15 I will add a set of the color maps without labels in the D20Pro Marketplace. The files will be free to download. I will add the scale to them so if you want to use them for play you can. Just note, some of the low res files may be pixelated. Great job Alice and I'm glad Matt had the solution :)

Please keep posting any extras you come up with. :)

I'm very happy that this discussion was thread-o-manced back to life or I never would have seen these wonderful fan-maps!

Yeah annoying that, always best to under promise and over deliver.
"Publish" means its finished. That doesn't mean its immediately available for everyone the second it's done.
We're still trying to make sure everyone has the correct files they are due. it's amazing how many people don't know what they pay for. Files should be loaded soon.

OK fair enough Skeeter, I am sorry for my mistake. But I bet I wasn't the only one who doesn't understand the exact technical terms for the publishing industry! Maybe next time a plain English "...and will be available for download in less than a week" or something would alleviate confusion.

Downloaded mine last night. As expected it came soon:) Looks pretty good so far.
Downloaded what? Cyclopean Deeps 5? or Rappan Athuk 5?
Where did you download it from? And were you emailed that it is available?
I have subscriptions to both but have had no notifications and I just logged into the www.froggodgames.org and don't see anything new in my downloads section.
Astral Frog |
They are in folders for me, labelled 1-6 for both. So you DL the whole lot at once tho 6 isn't in there yet.
How did you find out there are new files? An email?
Where are the files located? I checked my account on www.froggodgames.org, checked my downloads and nothing after 1-4 is there.I also checked the old login pre-new-website and they are not there.
I should not have to go to Paizo boards to find out about this stuff!

Mine were not automatically added - I got an email from Mr. Webb with a download code for RA 1-6, added the RA sub then used the code which brought the price down to zero. So for some people it isn't automatic.
If you are missing files, send a support email from the FGG website with your used name, kickstarter name and what files/subscriptions you should have. They put all my pre-order and KS files on that site for me after I sent them an emailed list of what I was supposed to have.
