Damn, going to strain the budget you guys are.

Frog God Games

We've threatened to nickname our new marketing director/web designer "Soulstealer Frog" for a reason, just saying. :-)

Bill keeps referring to her as the Blond Frog; and, no, he doesn't mean to imply the negative connotations of "blond".
She's a Math major, mother, avid scrapbooker, as well as web page designer. In short, she's awesome!

The Soulstealer Frog beat me to it! WTG!

i thought the big wait of the summer was going to be Prometheus. now i know it is going to be Rappan Athuk! since the project closes 2-july, when would the estimating shipping date be (approximately)? will the PDFs be available immediately?

Frog God Games

pdf approximately July 20 or so--but gibe me a week or two of delay possible--the goal is book by Gencon in dead tree...the entire frog clan is on task to make that happen

$50,000 in two days. Pretty exciting! :)

I really like the poster map idea! Maybe a cross-section on one side and the outdoors on the other?

Great idea.

And maybe on some sort of fabric...much more durable than mere paper!

Is the stitched, textbook quality book coming out for Kickstarter going to be the same one released to the public? And is it supposed to be released at Gen Con. Also, are the soft cover map books going to be released to the public?

It's probably not going to affect my decision anyway; I'm most likely going to pledge at least $100, but am REALLY tempted to go to $250 for the extra goodies and risk the wrath of my wife (Wife: "You spent WHAT on a D&D book?!" Me: C'mon honey, it's just coming out of my GEN CON money! Wife: "You spend WHAT at Gen Con?!!" Me: uhhhhh...).

Frog God Games

I can say that the textbook-quality (stitch-bound) is for all of our hardback books. That's the minimum quality for our hardcover production.

Frog God Games

Yup--what Chuck said. We pay a TON extra for textbook quality stitch binding; but I won't do it any other way. If you cannot hand your books down to your grandchildren because we made them so durable--we will have failed you.

That, btw, is one of the main reasons our hardcovers are more expensive than other companies. Our binding is sewn into 16 pages packets and then the 16 page packets are sewn together. Then they are glued (most people only glue).

I actually took a baseball bat to one to see if the binding would hold. I hit it 7-8 times, knocked the cover off, and the binding still held. I then called Emilee (our printer rep) and congratulated her. I think she laughed for at least 15 minutes. She did tell me..."Well, that's what you said you wanted"...and she was right.

The perk books may be for sale later, but not at Gencon (except the exclusive bonus level). If we have extras, we will sell the mats, map books and players guides on our website. The miniatures are kickstarter only, of course, and I am not going to overprint the perk items by many. The real intention is to make them for the project patrons.

The books will likely be for sale at Gencon (Paizo booth)--but will be priced slightly higher than on the Kickstarter.

Part of the reason it jumps to $250 is that production of a second book in small quantities is pretty expensive. The $250+ patrons also are helping to fund the overall project for everyone else--so they get something unique as a thank you from us.

I am still just in shock over this. I love our fans!

Thanks to everyone, we are almost at $60k!!! I am working on some additional perks--a players guide and maybe some other things. I know we can get to $80k, and I believe we may cross the $60k bonus goal this night. The bigger the goal achieved, the more likely we can get into stores and the more cool bonus items I can make for everyone. I am currently finalizing the LAST level text of the main book. I wrote my 100 lines for lisa this morning, and sent the story off to Rachel for posting (along with a pdf of my bad handwriting of 100 lines of "Lisa was right, I should have printed more books". Keep the faith and keep spreading the word.

Man. Do I want to drop the cash on this? Such a quality product deserves it...

I finally pulled the trigger a few minutes ago. I wanted to keep it lower, but the perks for the $250 level were compelling Bill. In the end, you got me. I'm really looking forward to it, as I've never read or seen any of the original stuff of this.

For the record, Bill. With all the bonuses from the expanded goals being met, there is a lot more bang for that 250 bucks. I am currently figuring out ways to make this purchase less painful, but I will be upping my pledge. And won't regret it a bit. :D

Stupid question: What kind of binding is on my 1e PHB and DMG? Because that binding style rocks. The covers and binding are as solid today, 30 years after I got them, as when they were brand new.

Frog God Games

John - If there's a flap of cloth that you can see then it's stitch-binding, if not, it's glue-binding. There's also, I think, a period of time where the glue was of much higher quality than what is being used in today's market.

I've got to wait until I get back from CT. Hopefully the kickstarter will be rolling in two weeks.

Just can't wait to get another great piece of gaming in my hands, I am desperately hoping that my request for LE # 333 can be mine, I have #333 RA Reloaded so 333 + 333 ....

Despite all the doom and gloom surrounding the industry it is so great to see so much quality product being available... my wallet is shuddering in pain.

mach--#333 has your name on it dude--just bug me a week before we ship and I'll make sure

Frog God Games

ps--1E books were stitch bound. The cover flap on my DMG failed 25 years ago...binding still is intact

Bill, any chance I can call #362 to match my copy of Reloaded? :)

Sorry if I'm helping open a can of worms!

Frog God Games

lol; Brian..like I told Mach--I will Try. If I screw up--you will have to forgive me. I will ask that question on the end survey that kickstarter has us send out.

I won't offer to match any number under 50 though--those are going to the heavy hitters ($500+)...well, and me (#1):)

Not a problem, I totally understand if things don't workout, or it gets to unwieldy to do so!

this all assumes we print that many. what if we stop at 300? Just to make it valuable to collectors????????

kidding, just kidding, stop throwing things!!!!!!!!

Really, Im just kidding. I hope we can print tons of these things. I have a strange feeling you guys are going to like it quite a bit.

You all got me for the 250 pack, too. Too many awesome things in that for me to pass...

I have a couple of questions...

What level is this made for?

I know you have mentioned in the future we will see improvements to your Maps, will we see that in this book? And what kind of improvements?

For the laminated Battle Map, will it be in color? B&W? Professional Cartographer or in house Map artist?

From Rappan Athuk Reloaded (3.5):

"Rappan Athuk is a difficult dungeon. Even the upper dungeon levels should not be attempted by a party of less than six characters of 4th level. Only truly veteran players should attempt this dungeon with lower level characters. Parties delving deeper than the 1st or 2nd levels of the dungeon should be of 5th level or higher. Entering the dungeon through “The Well” (which leads to level 3A) is dangerous, best avoided by parties of less than 7th level."

Except that this new version will have new content for levels 1-10 wich will make it for levels 1-20.

Rappan Athuk, the legendary mega-dungeon by Necromancer Games is nothing more and nothing less than a good, old–fashioned, First Edition dungeon crawl updated for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game and the Swords & Wizardry rules. Very difficult, Rappan Athuk will truly strike fear into the hearts of the most stalwart adventurers. It offers legions of inventive traps, tricks, strange features, and monsters -- many of them never before seen. It affords numerous opportunities for roleplaying, but anyone willing to brave these subterranean halls better arrive ready to rumble, or their lives will be short indeed.

We at Frog God Games are giving you early adopters a unique opportunity to be a part of roleplaying game history. In cooperation with Necromancer Games, your generous pledges will help to fuel the production of Rappan Athuk for both the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game system and the Swords & Wizardry rules. We hope to be able to raise enough funds to distribute this book to brick and mortar game stores! Therefore, we need to come up with $25,000 to print and illustrate the book -- The personal checks papa frog is having to lay out are getting kind of scary and mama frog said "no more!"

Rappan Athuk will be a faux leather-bound, signature stitched book (textbook bound for a lifetime of durability) with either a red cover (for the Swords & Wizardry version) or black cover (for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game). The book includes:

17 new levels (topping over 50 levels) with many revisions to the existing levels

A number of lower level areas (character levels 1-10) including the village of Zelkor's Ferry and its surrounding environs

A Temple of Tsathogga with a three level dungeon of its own

2 New Prestige Classes and a New Archtype (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Version Only)

27+ New Monsters

3 New Monster Templates

5+ New Artifacts

30+ New Magic Items (including some old favorites)

The return of Bill Webb's favorite spell from the Relics and Rituals days as an ability!

29+ miniature-scale battlemaps (detailing 10+ separate locations) provided for iconic locations and key encounter areas

and more!

Written by Bill Webb (from his home campaign), with additional material from Matt Finch, Clark Peterson, WDB Kenower, Greg Raglund, Greg Vaughan, and Skeeter Green (supported by a cast of many more). The adventure you soon will hold in your hand is the latest version of an ever-evolving campaign benchmark since its original release with the 3.0 rule system in 2000. Many, many players have lost favored PCs delving into the depths of this dungeon, all the while giggling like children and having the time of their lives. Hundreds, if not thousands of players have combed the halls of Rappan Athuk over the years, seeking treasure and fame, making it one of the best-known dungeon locations the game has ever produced. Even players who have never entered its halls know the term: “Don’t go down the Well!”

Frog God Games

Yup--its level 1-20+, frankly if you ever finish it you will be playing for about 200 years. Rick Sardinha is doing the maps, and old maps are Ed Bourelle. The battle mat will be B&W: Level 0 (the Mausoleum and Graveyard) on one side, and blank on the other (laminated dry erase).

Our two in-house cartographers are professional artists, btw. The only "bad maps" I think we have had have been mine (RA 2 sucked--sorry still after 13 years) and a couple free lancers we used years ago.

Rick did the Eamonvale and Demonheart Maps, as well as half the maps in Strange Bedfellows. Robert has done the balance. Ed was our main guy at Necromancer years ago.

Did you see the Order of the Stick Kickstarter?

@Bill: I suggest you plot the $$$ vs time graph similar to how Rich Burlew did from the beginning of his kickstarter and then see where the curve seems to go. I.e. start inventing new bonuses fast... And don't forget to calculate overhead.

Frog God Games

We've passed the $60k mark and have a new bonus goal for reaching $100k.

P.S. We love you guys! You are the best!

Kicktraq has this to say:
Funding: $60,569 of $25,000 (242% funded)
Projected Total: $1,211,380 (4845% funded)

Of course, before anyone gets too excited, that is after only 4 days, and it probably will swing fairly wildly for a while... still, pretty encouraging.

Many many thanks I wasn;t sure if it was assured, Sod's Law aside! ;-)

GitP crushed their kickstarter, and I think its awesome. Im a huge fanboy of rich.

I can only hope we do 1/10 of his number. but Ill take 1/5 very happily!

If that projected number held up....crikey, I dont even know!

<laugh> no way that could hold up, it will steadily drop as the days wear on.

Well, we still haven't released our special $1,150,000 pledge level, and I'm fairly optimistic about it. ;-)

I'm waiting for the pledge level to be added where you guys comission a contractor to dig out Rappan Athuk under my house.

I plan on connecting it to my Zork dungeon while I'm down there.

Hmmm.....

I just had an idea....

I might just write a Zork module. I mean, the room descriptions and contents already exist, it would just be a matter of putting stats together and coming up with a map. Maybe adjusting a few things to account for multiple adventurers.

Swords & Wizardry, definately.

Kickstarting this is great - I cannot wait to mine the book for jewels to use with my old-school'ish dungeon campaign.

I would play a Zork module!

As a kid, I LOVED Zork. I played it on my dad's Commodore 64. It was WAY over my head, but I loved it anyway. At one point I got my hands on a Zork walkthrough and got most of the way through Zork II.

*sigh*

Yeah, I keep doing this, too. I need to stop, every time I look I get that much closer to upping my pledge. If it gets close to 100k, I might have to bump up to $250.

Glad to know i'm not the only one! :)

@ Shem and Banatine,

You are not the only ones. I too check almost every time I get online, and several times a day.

The fact that this will have material for levels 1 and up makes me want to get this. I've been looking for punishing, old school style of play that ups danger over balance that I can use with my group, but my players are too levels low level for the last version of RA.
