Feel like all of the APs and modules thus far have been defending the status quo.
Malevolence will shake things up if the PCs fail to succeed. ;-)
That said, I'm really eager for the stand-alone adventures to be bigger deals, and to focus on larger events. They won't all be things like "Gray Death" that can change regions, but some certainly will. Sorta like how not all Adventure Paths cause big changes, but some will.
I've long felt that the best way to reveal big secrets or to advance the world's plot is to do so "on screen" in an adventure, and the standalone nature of this line should let us do more of that, not less.
I will buy, not only because it is awesome, but because I'm ready for more juicy secrets.

Sooo...now we finally get to find out what the Gray Gardeners have been doing all this time in Galt. Are they a cult of Great Old One / Outer Gods worshipers? Are they in league with some powerful evil (a Lich or a Graveknight perhaps)? Do they consort with fiends and barter with the souls their guillotines entrap? I can't wait to find out and thwart their vile machinations! :D

I'll be honest, as a longtime fan of the Battletech setting, my brain immediately did this convoluted construction of Paizo and Catalyst in a strategic partnership to bring about a resurrection of the Grey Death Legion.
:>
That being said, having some more story on the Gardeners is something that's been kind of scratching at the back of my mind since the Inner Sea World Guide in PF1.

There's a note that more XP than usual comes from investigation instead of fights.
So funny enough, I rolled a D20 to decide if I should answer you and you got a 15, so good enough. So here you go my friend. Spoiler tags for those who don't want to be spoiled. #spoilresponsibly. If you have additional questions for me, kindly use spoiler tags so we don't ruin this adventure for anyone!
2 Items (One of which is an artifact).
A ritual
The Gray Gardener Archetype (Note; not it's own archetype. 11 Vigilante feats that have a prereq of "member of the Gray Gardeners")
5 Creatures
A mini side bar with rules on worshipping...something ;)

What are the new creatures (name, level, size, alignment and traits)?

Can I attempt a d20 roll to find out how the module ends? I understand if that’s too big of a spoiler, but I’m so curious where Galt ends up.
If specificity helps - is there a “bad ending”?
First roll was an 8, but I accept your hero point which gave you a 17. As always, please use spoilers if you have follow up questions on this :)!
Adventure ends with the heroes defeating the Conqueror worm, which leaves the Gray Gardeners not only leaderless, but without their network of psychic manipulation. potentially dark victory, as depending on the course of the encounter a town may no longer exist. Lots of confusion and power vacuums, but the nation eventually stabilizes. Public holidays honoring the heroes spring up.
Yup. Continue reading only if you want to know what that bad ending is.
There is a "Arriving Too Late" side bar. If you arrive too late, Galt is reduced to virtually a lifeless wasteland. You can still fight the big bad, but Galt's future is very grim in this timeline

How much of this adventure is
1) Combat/dungeon crawling
2) Investigation
3) RoleplayingFiguring out what character to play and I don't want to end up with a shmoozing/infiltration focused Kitsune bard if there are no opportunities for that character to shine
Chapter 2 takes place in one long evening with more clue searching and some rescuing. Again, has combat (and some small maps that can be considered dungeon crawling? But like...2 floors with 3 big rooms. Not Abomination Vault dungeon crawling). I actually like this chapter alot, because the sections are time stamped, but also have some extra things GMs can toss out if players don't have enough to do before the next time stamp.
Chapter 3, this chapter has more of a combat focus with a larger dungeony map.
All in all, bard it up my friend. You will have plenty of time to shine imo.

Meanwhile, the last few lines of a certain poem by one Edgar Allan Poe run through my head:
Out — out are the lights — out all!
And, over each quivering form,
The curtain, a funeral pall,
Comes down with the rush of a storm,
While the angels, all pallid and wan,
Uprising, unveiling, affirm
That the play is the tragedy, "Man,"
And its hero...

xNellynelx I would like to try to roll too. ** spoiler omitted **
Thanks!
Nat 1, hero point into an 11.
Our worm friend has been orchestrating all of Galt's troubles for the past two generations.
Paper is correct, watch everything burn down, than move on to bigger locations to burn those down to.

Is there a way to download these maps for VTT. Since Roll20 doesn't have this adventure, I need to make it myself. Normally I can just save the maps. I'm able to save the two big maps at the front and end of the book, but the other maps I can't. Trying to save those, saves the border image.
xNellynelx |
Click the image, and the right-click to copy the image. Paste into your image editor of choice.
Tried. It copies the border, not the actual map. (Border as in those 2 pillars, with the mask in the top right).
Older PDFs I used to be able to do this, but some of the recent PDFs (Strength of Thousands, and this one) I can't. Not a problem for SoT, since I have the maps via Roll20. But I currently have no way to get them for Gray Death.

It's a pretty frustrating usability problem for me.

Hey, xNellynelx, there's a pretty easy way to get images out of Paizo's PDFs, which also solves the weird transparency issues that sometimes occur with the "save as" method.
I wrote a post about it a year and a half ago:
Ignore the thread topic, this was a specific issue with some of the maps.
Big thing there is use TokenTool, which has been updated to include exporting to webp format and to export all the images at once.
I can confirm it reads the Night of Gray Death map image on page 9 just fine, and because the text isn't actually part of the image, that is not included in the extract, just like you want.

Literally the inspiration for this monster, back when I wrote it up for 1e. Psyched to see them finally show up in 2e!

I don’t see it listed anywhere how many players this is written for. Is it written for the usual 4 players or more?
Four players.
I don't think Paizo intends to publish for any group size other than four players, as at worst it's an easy middle ground to adjust encounter size for if you add or remove a player.
