Other Pathfinders assist your attack, increasing the damage you deal by the listed amount. To Boost: Succeed at an attack roll against an AC equal to the target DC in the table below.
Boosted Effect: Increase the damage dealt by 1d6..

which encounters don't you have complete success yet? I'm just about to start one of the optional encounters.
Just reported Animal Success (They seem to complete just as I start them) :)
Tyranius |
The Success Tracking link at the top of the page will give the status on everything all the tables have accomplished at the moment.
GM Doug H |
We'll be finishing an optional today. Looks like the house is very close so I will not move us on to the second optional.
I don't see a way to select an optional, so I reported a Shifted success.
GM Ladile |
Yep, there's no separate selection choice for an 'optional success'; GMs just report it as one of the other options - their choice. That said, the House has succeeded with the Charting Mission and we have an extra 'Animal Success' that I will go ahead and shift over to 'Shifted Success'. With that, the House has now completed all available missions for Part 1.
I will be making posts across all tables momentarily with the last two success updates as well as a 'wrap-up' warning for Part 1. Since today is Sunday we'll advance to Part 2 tomorrow morning, Monday the 20th. My post kicking off Part 2 will be a littler earlier than usual as I'll be out and about most of the day tomorrow.
In the meantime, go ahead and wrap up any encounters you've not finished yet or encourage your players to take a bit of a breather (and maybe RP if they wish) before Part 2 begins :)
GM Ladile |
Alrighty folks, everyone should have a post that advances us to Part 2! I know the downtime wasn't quite a full 24 hours but it looks like most groups were already at a decent stopping point to shift gears, at least.

I have followed what the last map says about terrain (7-8) because it's so similar; that map only designates green areas as difficult terrain and so I infer the brown is not difficult terrain. One could reasonably say the deeper water is difficult terrain like a shallow stream or bog. Here is what I shared with my table (as a colorblind person who has difficulty with these maps):
Green areas on the map are light underbrush, creating difficult terrain and allowing creatures within to Hide and Sneak. The stream is also difficult trerrain. The brown-ish shallow strerams that form a path through (upon which your PCs now standing) are are just ankle-deep muck and are not difficult terrain.

Advice requested.
This is a 7-8 table with a group fighting Culdewens. One Culdewen has a fighter hooked, and adjacent. And we're near the edge of the map.
So it will spend an action trying to Land the Fish: The culdewen hoists the creature over their shoulder, as though it weighs no more than a fish. Unless the creature is unable to act, the culdewen must attempt an Athletics check against the creature’s Fortitude DC. On a success, the creature is restrained by the culdewen. While hoisting a creature, the culdewen gains a +20-foot status bonus to their Speeds and is compelled to escape with it (see culdewen’s curse above).
It has a 60% chance of succeeding on a single roll.
And then Culdewen's Curse: A culdewen that captures a creature is compelled to immediately retreat to a secluded place to eat, typically journeying by boat. The travel to the secluded place always takes at least 1 day. Their captive is cursed to vanish on the journey—typically being lost in the water or consumed by aquatic creatures—and can be recovered only by a wish spell or similarly powerful magic.
----
I can slow down the process by having it spend an action cursing, but if I make the first Land the Fish roll, it spends an action going 60', off map. No one will be able to catch it, mathematically. Is this insta-death? The pers bleeding has stopped, the fighter could fight back, but... IDK, this all seems weird to me.
Do I have an out here?
GM Doug H |
The creature wants to reel in big fish so it may debuff them first anyway first. I wouldn't softball it — your table is having an easier time and looking for more of a challenge, right?
How I ran it, and will this time too: The journey takes at least a day and the PC is Restrained and can still try to escape (25 is a low DC on 7-8). A 60' move speed through difficult terrain like underbrush should still be a solvable problem for level 7-8 PCs. They might have potions of fly to consume from the Magical Supplies misison, haste spells of their own, etc.
I would get a bigger map so your PCs can chase it down and save their friend.
Even if they cannot catch up it doesn't seem like insta-death to me. Again the Escape DC is decently low. The jungle is also crawling with Pathfinders and venture-captains. You could let the PC make rolls to escape or be saved by other Pathfinders off-scene; they could find their way back just before the last battle, but remove their time to heal up. That would be the nice way to run it if things went disastrously wrong.
______
Last time I ran this tier Dennis the co-author (also the House GM) allowed my table to purchase spellcasting (remove curse) from the local Pathfinders between combats as my group was having a rough time. This was super generous since that's a 10-minute cast and you only get about 10 min between encounters. I am not sure I would be quite as nice if my group was hungry for more of a challenge (and might not allow it this time).

This works, thank you.
I had a hard time reconciling the insta-death, but reading the statblock (the trip takes at least an hour) I had a hard time with... "Well, does he attempt to Escape 1800 times?" and it was just one of those weird edge cases where I had to find a line.
I know death is possible (I've paid for resurrections before), but it's generally not the way of PFS modules to make it that easy.
He did get picked up first try and dragged off, but escaped and the battle continues.

The trip takes "at least 1 day" unless I missed something. Honestly, this monster's ability seems designed for use against NPCs, more so than outright killing PCs. It's also hilarious.

^Agreed. I also have no issue with Doug's take on how to handle the situation (in case you wanted my input as House GM as well).

In other news, the updated schedule for the rest of the special is posted over in the Gameplay tab. We will move on to Part 3 on April 2nd *or* whenever the House finishes both missions, whichever happens first. Since it looks like we're almost there on Ritual Successes I wouldn't be surprised if we end up advancing early again :)

Ritual Success - I'm the 1/12. My table decided on combat.

There are no optional missions in part 2 right?
So those who finish early just wait until part 3?
Correct. If you finish early you can wait or if you're worried about your table getting bored you could run an extra defense mission, with the caveat that Part 3 immediately follows Part 2 so there's no overnight rest to renew party resources.
GM Ladile |
Will there be a multi-table special for Paizocon?
If I understand correctly they're going to be doing the newest Starfinder special but I believe it'll be VTT only.

Little GM confsion about Culdewen curse removal here, and I had to work some things through and fix a mistake.
The creature's ability says the curse goes away after a day; while the PFS Guide says you should remove curses before the game ends or the PC is dead, I think we can let it slide for those who don't want to pay. Cost should be 80 GP to remove, not 160 as it's a level 4 effect coming from a level 7 creature, not a level 5 effect of the actual Mariner's Curse. Likely players want to pay the 80 GP anyway, but it's an important distinction.
Just dropping a note here for posterity. This one got me all twisted up.

My BBEG is facing 4 PCs.
The minions fall in round 1.
In round 2, everything focuses on the BBEG.
One hits once and invokes Allied Offensive.
One rolls two Nat 20s.
One rolls another Nat 20.
All of these are cold iron.
My PCs are now standing over the BBEG's corpse.
I got to cast Lightning Bolt and force about 6 Will saves. AND I WENT FIRST. :D

We're having a much different experience as the big bad is rolling well on stealth.
GM Tiger |
If it wasn't for the DCs, my group would probably have a better challenge with the 3-4 enemies. They're running amok on the fey... After 1 round, I've been reduced to the quickling and 1 mitflit...
