GM Otha |
Welcome to my Mysteries Under Moonlight discussion thread. I’ll be running parts 1 & 2 in succession; I’ll be targeting 6 player characters w/ 2 slots reserved (1 for TOZ and 1 for supervillan) with the other four to be determined later. If you have been selected, you can dot and delete in the Gameplay thread…more to come later.
GM Otha |
Players thus far:
TOZ
supervillan
Skorn
SodiumTelluride
Ectheion the Grey
We might have one more join us…
Y’al can discuss tier and characters here. I’ve got the slides mostly ready, link is in my header and at the top of the page, got a little more prep to do. We can also discuss a starting date; I had thought since Thanksgiving is next week here in the states, we’d start right after, but that’s open for discussion as well, if you wish…
GM Aarvid |
I have two options:
Elf Arcanist 5th. Works for either tier
Tengu Ninja/bloodrager 7th Available for high tier
supervillan |
My high tier option of choice is Janus, a heavy-hitting fey-touched inquisitor (lvl 6, would level up after part 1). They come with a crocodile figment familiar who'll "level up" into a mephit.
At low tier, I've got a fun little leshy with a gunpowder obsession at level 4 (would also level up after part 1). Boom Sticks is a barbarian (savage technologist) with a gunslinger dip, who plays mostly like a reach fighter but has a few firearms tricks.
I can start whenever.
I'm Hiding In Your Closet |
I understand there may not be room for me, BUT if you'll take me (I certainly have no shortage of ambitious characters in the level-range)...
My loracle would probably be overkill comparatively. My shifter and slayer are fairly low power, might not fit into the party depending on our comp.
...I've never seen a Shifter in action, and in addition to the fact that I'd like to, a Shifter would be PERFECT for Part II!
I've got a witch and shifter in low tier. Champion of Irori and lore oracle in high. No preference either way. I also have a ridiculous cavalier and a swashigator.
Gott Im Himmel! Same goes for yours, TriOmegaZero!
So what could I offer...?
Lower-Tier:
- Tiefling Paladin 3 (could be VERY appropriate, all things considered)
- Samsaran aspiring Mystic Theurge/"True Necromancer" 3 (2 XP to 4!)
- Dhampir Spiritualist 3 (1 XP from 4!)
- Dwarf Inquisitor 3 (He's not what you'd expect)
- Sylph Thief 4 (not my first pick for this)
- Gnome True Silvered Throne 4 (also not a terrible fit)
- Half-Orc Investigator 4 (could be a pretty good fit, but I played her recently)
- Dhampir Spell-Warrior 4 (nothing if not a fun character, but maybe not the best fit for these)
Inter-Tier:
- Ulfen Druid 5 (could be a VERY good fit, especially for Part II!)
- Dhampir Kensei 5 (not such a good fit - but might be a hoot alongside Janus!)
Higher-Tier:
- Elf Occultist 6 (Lots to offer, 2 XP to 7, might be another good match with Janus!)
- Aasimar Theologian 7 (1 XP to 8, meaning she'd be out-of-Tier in Part II)
Despite my preponderance of lower-Tier characters, I think my tendency would be toward higher-Tier, as lower was what I did last time.
GM Otha |
Hi IHIYC. There’s one spot left and there were three of you who showed interest for that last spot in the Flaxseed recruitment thread…I’ll be do a 3-person (you, Pete, and Colin) lottery roll in that thread, probably within the hour, to fill that last slot…
Skorn |
Skorn checking in. Again:
Low tier: Dran, lvl 3 dwarven war priest - expect swift self buffs and greatsword action
High tier:
Terragon the Golden 7th level bloodrager Dragon Disciple - A lawful good bloodrager who seems to be slowly transforming into a golden dragon. Expect getting large when raging and a few self buffs.
Greyveil Darksand - 7th level grenadier Alchemist - A somewhat dark alchemist that can fly and hand out things like Barkskin or even Shield infusions. Hmm - also will level to 8 after one play, unless I choose slow progression...
GM Otha |
Added one more player and here’s our final cast:
TOZ
supervillan
Skorn
SodiumTelluride
Ecthelion the Grey
Colin_Mercer
Once we nail down the tier and the characters, we’ll nail down the start date…
GM Otha |
@SodiumTelluride, since it looks like it’ll be high tier, you can still play Levin out of tier if you wish to…think he’d be OK, especially playing with 6…
Levin Hessel |

I do have a 6th-level rogue I can bring, but with 6 of us we should be ok without the extra firepower. Hopefully this little guy will get a few chances to be useful.

I'm intended to bring my Aphorite Inquisitor of Milani. She is of the Living Grimoire archetype which means she is INT-based, so front line melee with knowledge skills and diplomacy.
I will finish her PbP profile soon. Got a couple game that I need to GM this weekend...
GM Otha |
Alrighty then, since we’ve settled on high tier, please dot and delete in Gameplay with your characters, if you haven’t already…and please post your PFS info:

I should be able to start whenever. The first weekend of December and the christmas week will have slow responses from me due to Emerald Con online + Cayden's Ascension 4724, and christmas travels.

3 people marked this as a favorite. |
For those of you I haven’t GM’ed before, just wanted to give you an idea of what you can expect from me. I don’t pretend to know everything when it comes to Pathfinder rules; most of you likely have been playing longer and know the rules better than I. Several of you are GMs that I've played under...and I realize you're better GMs than I. If, more likely when, I err, call me on it as you see it and I’ll fix it; I have no qualms about retconning if I screw something up. You won’t hurt my feelings as I like to think I don’t have too much of an ego. By rule of thumb, I’ll retcon if my mistake is detrimental to the PC/party; if my mistake is beneficial to the PC/party, I tend to not retcon unless I catch it fairly quickly. I also try to give my NPCs a bit of flavor when the opportunity presents itself. My main goal is that everyone will enjoy themselves and have fun.
As a GM, I usually post at least once or twice a day, sometimes more depending on the situation, and I try to keep things moving along. I don’t expect that much posting from my players, although you’re welcome to do so if you are able to and wish to. I’d appreciate if you could post at least once a day and once over the weekends. Real life comes first though so please let me know, if possible, when you may have a hard time posting. And, with the holiday season vastly approaching, we can go a little slower, if needed as that’s usually a busy time for everyone…
If I have to bot you, I’ll check your profile for botting instructions; lacking that, I’ll bot you conservatively equally considering the best interests of the character and the party. I don't like to delay characters while in combat as that can be detrimental to the rest of the party...
As far as initiative goes during combat...for those players in the same initiative block, I usually play things out in post order as opposed to initiative order as I’ve found that moves the combat along more quickly. But if it’s a situation where it’s more beneficial to the party to play the block in initiative order, I will do so.
Looking forward to running y’all through this scenario...

Got an idea for when we start. I was thinking I can post the summons sometime tomorrow; y’all can post your intros at your leisure, get to RP and chat with the other PCs if you wish throughout the next week, and I’ll start with the initial briefing post after Thanksgiving, either late Sunday night or first thing Monday morning (I’m on EST). How does that sound?
GM Otha |
Sorry, thought I had the slides where everyone had edit access; think I’ve got that fixed now. When you get a chance, you can add your icons on the first slide along with filling in your PC’s mods in the initiative and perception blocks. Links to the slides are in my header block and at the top of the page…
GM Otha |
Dammit, my bad; I made it editable but forgot to paste in the new link. Try it now…
Waki Huro |
Seems like working for me. Updated map for init/perc/icon. :)
Janus Grey |
All good now - browser problem on my end. If I click on the link, Chrome opens the file but it's not editable. If I go to my Google Drive and then open the file from there, it's working as intended.
Janus Too |
I've added a token for Janus' familiar (Janus Too) on the slides. Do you want to run it on separate initiative count GM? It does take an active part in combat, typically serving as a flank buddy and/or Aid Another source.
(It has an Initiative mod of +0 - much lower than Janus' +5 - and a Perception score of +9)
Janus typically carries the familiar under their arm. An adult dwarf caiman has a weight of 13-15 lbs. It is a Small sized creature though. Janus drops it ahead of combat, assuming they suspect trouble is coming.
GM Otha |
Hmmm…do not know why…I rechecked the settings and it’s set to ‘anyone with the link can edit’ …and the link that I switched to is below and it shows it’s set to edit:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/1Txo1p9yi6TbFCQcGpGj6EIrHcgy2e3eb/edit?usp=d ocslist_api&filetype=mspresentation
My apologies, I’ll do some research on it and see if I can find a fix…
ETA: Dunno how, but the settings got changed back to view only; curious since when I copied the link 5 hours ago, it was the link with edit above…weird. Hate to ask again, but give it another shot when you get a chance…
