'Bloody hell's they are sick.' Quickly moving Thistle away from the bodies, "There clearly sick." He mounts his wolf, "But they are also domesticated." Shaking his head, "I don't know anyone who raises wolves other than myself and my pap." He looks at the others, "Do any of you know anyone who raises wolves?" Then he looks at Shel, "Shel do you know of any orc tribes that have wolves?"

As he turns Thistle away from the bodies, he adds, speaking to himself as much as to the others. "It might not hurt if we found out what these wolves have. Might be an attempt to get the town sick."

Rory's only knowledge is Lore; Hold of Belkzen. Would a knowledge check with it tell if orcs raise wolves? if not take the knowledge roll by itself for '10' in any knowledge skill that would tell us if nearby orcs have wolves.

”If someone wanted to infect the town they could just waltz in and do so.” Shel says, examining one of the animals. ”As the guard have proven just this morning and again with these wolves, the defenses are not difficult to surmount.”

Shel looks over the bodies and after examining the appearance of the discoloration of their skin below the fur and the froth drying around their fangs she looks up...realizing its a poison. The wolves were poisoned. The poison carefully designed to mimic the appearance of rabies and that could be transmitted to whoever they bit. This would take someone well skilled in Alchemy or Herbalism Perhaps a Druid? or another Shaman? A Orcish Witch Doctor?

Rory sits thinking for a few minutes and thinks...theres lots of Orc Hunters that use Wolves. That and yes Druids or such that might have a pack with them. However there arent any particular tribes that come to mind and certainly noone in or around Trunau that he knows of.

Rydell slings the blood of his blade before sheathing it.

Unfortunate. I shouldn't have let my frustration get the better of me and noticed something was off sooner. Shame such beautiful creatures are treated this way... I doubt you could even use their fur for something because of that poison.

I am loathe to say, we may could get more done if we split up. But, it may be safer to stick together. I would suggest, if we split up, for me, and Rory to follow the wolves tracks. And hopefully find where they came from before returning here to meet up. The others could look around town and make sure we know where all the white graffiti swords are. Neither group should try and confront anyone if they find someone before regrouping.

After taking a few minutes to breathe and have a bit of a hissy fit in private, Imara returns to the group and stands quietly listening to the conversation.

Do we really want to try to figure out exactly where the wolves came from now? We haven't even looked for Brinya or Daktani yet. I know they could be where the wolves came from, but I don't know...it seems like starting with Brinya or Daktani's residences makes more sense."

"I say we ask the militia to help us find and cover the swords. There's no reason we need to do that personally. We can also talk to Agrit, see if she can take a look at them and see if there is anything she can do about the magic. Maybe we can send someone to question the guards about what they saw as well."

Imara thinks of Shel's reaction to the fight with the wolves.

If we want to split up, then I suggest I go with Shel. I don't necessarily feel town is safe right now. Ovril, do you want to come with us?"

'I loathe the idea of breaking up but it may be for the best.' Drawing the note out of his pocket, Rory points to Shel, "I believe Shel wanted to investigate the body." He waves the note, looking from Rydel then to Imara. "I would see if Thistle can follow a scent on the note, Then perchance the wolves or speaking with someone like Imara says." Looking back to Rydel, "But I'm willing to to do whatever you think is best."

At this point, Phoenix had rolled in the bloody dirt near the wolf he killed and thoroughly drenched himself in the blood. The bird stands and examines himself. He clucks with approval and pulls a tuft of hair from the defeated wolf. Beak filled with fur, he marches for the gates of the town. I shall take these grisly trophies to the wolf packs and show them what happens when they try to hunt in my territory. Expect my return in three days.

"Phoenix, for the love of Pharasma!" Shel shouts, standing and spinning to face the retreating chicken. She chants a short prayer. A sheet of water appears above Phoenix and cascades down around him, washing the blood off his feathers and creating little red rivulets that snake their way downhill. "I need your help, little one." The shaman wipes the dust off her hands and turns to the others.

"These wolves were infected with some kind of strange poison that could be transmitted through bite. Very strange." The shaman tries to find justifications for such an inefficient form or warfare, if that's what this was, but she doesn't come up with anything. "Maybe Silvermane should take a look at them. Phoenix, be a dear and tell Silvermane about the poisoned wolves, then come find me at Sanctuary and help me with the autopsy. I really need to look at the body as soon as possible, and I have yet to commune with the spirits this day. That's why Phoenix is in such a mood. You can come if you wish, Imara. A third set of eyes won't hurt."

"Impressive work, by the way, Rydell. Not easy to strike a wolf with a sword."

Phoenix ceases his dirt bath the moment he hears the druid's name and takes off towards the spring, screaming for Silvermane the whole way.

Okay, here is my thinking. Shel, Imara, you two go to autopsy the body. Rory and I will see what we can find with Thistle, and then go to the clamor to talk with Sara about the hopeknife. After all of that, we can meet back up at Agrit's shop. Where we can discuss what, if anything, we found and after speaking to her continue the search from Daktani and Brinya. Ovril, you can join either group. Wherever you believe you would be most useful. I cannot claim to know your skill set, other than putting on a show. He gives his idea for a plan to the others before turning to give a nod to shel.

Yes, well, it certainly isn't something I'm practiced in doing. Though watching how Thistle moves regularly helped me in judging. That is, until your chicken jumped on the wolf. I nearly cut it in half, at least it proved a decent distraction. He is slightly curt, but otherwise just seems distracted.

"Who are you having Thistle track? The writer of the note? Anyway, I think it sounds like a good plan. We've lost enough time already - I'm ready to go." She sounds matter-of-fact, rather than annoyed.

She walks over to pick up her bow and inspects the broken string, sighing. "Useless." Something occurs to her and she looks back to the group. "When and where do we meet back up? Perhaps the longhouse? We'll need to eat..."

Keeping Thistle turned away from the chicken so the wolf doesn't think it's time to play, Rory listens as Imara, Rydell and Shel, discuss their options. Hearing Shel's Idea that silvermane should inspect the wolves was a good idea. Rory agrees, "That's a good idea Shel."

Watching his friend Rydell as he lays out a plan, Rory nods, "So see if thistle can still smell whoever had the note last, then Speak to Sara, then meet at Agrit's shop."

Turning to Imara, "Let's meet at Agrit's like Rydell said," He points that general direction. "It's closer than the Longhouse, then we can decide what were doing."

He then clicks his tongue at Thistle, she perks her ears and turns her head sniffing the note again, while Rory tells her, "Ok girl, we need to find the person who had this note."

Imara and Shel turn to head to Sanctuary while Rory holds the note down for Thistle to smell...Rydell and Ovril watch Thistle.

Thistle walks around in a circle and then whines looking uop to her master...any scent long destroyed by the battle and carnage and all the people who had been present in the morning.

Rydell, Rory head towards Sara's shop, referred to as Clamor because of the noise of metal-working normally present. Though today the forge is strangely silent as they approach.

Ovril stands at the entrance to Ramblehouse looking left and right trying to decide where to go.

An Acolyte meets Shel and imara at the intrance to Sanctuary and asks how they can help?

Hullo Ry. Rory. What can I do for you?

she lets you into the foyer of the shop. the work room and storage room behind a curtain. A few chairs, a table and a counter and stool make the room look more like an office than the entry way to a workshop.

Behind The Acolyte Shel notices the Temple is a beehive of activity. Acolytes are going to and fro on obviously important missions and everyone has a very serious look on their face.

Shel and Imara are lead back to where Rodericks body is and Tyari is there yelling at an Acolyte about carelessness.

then She turns and looks at the two. Hello. Halgra told me to expect you and to give you access. Here's the body. Its very very sad. He was one of the good ones.

"Yes, yes, very sad." Shel says dismissively. Emotion would not help her right now. "I need to examine Roderick's body, there's some question regarding the circumstances of his death." She uses magic to fill a bowl with water and wash her hands. "Please see to it Phoenix finds his way to this room when he finishes with Silvermane and the wolves." She brings the bowl of water over to the bed holding Roderick to clean his skin of dirt or blood that might hide telling clues. Seeing Thistle walking around and whining, Rory pats Thistle on the shoulder as he guides the wolf toward Rydell, shaking his head. "I don't think she can pick it up. Let's go speak to Sara." Turning the wolf towards the clamor, they head that way.

Arriving at the blacksmith shop Rory dismounts, leading Thistle behind him. Seeing the sadness on Sara's eyes,"ma'am, I'm sorry to bother you." He gestures towards Rydell, "We're part of the group who's been put in charge of the investigation of, well, you know." He moves back towards the saddle bags and draws out the knife. "We were hoping you could help us." Handing Sara the knife, he asks, "This was the hope knife that was used, we noticed it doesn't have any engraving. Would you be able to identify it?"

While Shel examines the body, Imara paces around the room like a restless cat. She rests her hand on the hilt of her sword, no longer trusting them to be safe, even here in the sanctuary. Sara looks at the hopeknife Rory handed her and scowls. This is the Hopeknife I was making for him. He had misplaced the one Brynia gave him and was looking to replace it. This is my craftsmanship see this watermark here and here? I wasnt finished with it.

she moves over to where she had placed it and the space is empty.

I had put it here to do my finishing touches on it and the engraving this week...How he ended up with it. ....I dont know. he shouldnt have had it yet

Shel and Imara look over the body. Both wrists are slit. His skin coloration says he bled to death. It also looks like he bled some out of his eyes as if he was straining hard. Some discoloration on his arms and legs indicate he was trying hard to move but couldnt. Muscles strained to the point of a few blood vessels bursting.

Imara points out a slight pinprick on the back of his neck and some yellowish tinted paste dried on the outside of the slight wound, barely noticeable.

Shel very carefully examines the yellowish paste and tests it in water. Phoenix comes over and hops on the bed and bends over the washbasin the substance is in and bends over it and looks over at Shel Its comes to Shels mind that this could be a paralytic...perhaps a stong venom.

Additionally It appears that in his mouth is the residue of some milkish looking oily substance that may have been poured in his mouth after he was paralyzed some careful study it appears it may have been Oil of Taggit which induces Unconsciousness for a few hours. Its slow to act though which would explain why a paralytic was used first.

for certain though it wasnt suicide.

'So the knife was stolen from her workshop.' Shaking his head, Rory looks from the Councilor to Rydell, and back again. "We don't think he had it, we think someone killed him and planted it there." He gestures around the shop, "We need to narrow down our suspects. When was the last time you saw this knife. Who knew this knife was being made specifically for him and who would have had access to it after you saw it last?"

She's not here. She didnt show up for work today. Not surprising Her and Daktani were together last night. You dont think she was involved?! Id think someone broke in here would be more likely.

'Curious, she did not come to work.' Raising an eyebrow, "Has the shop been broken into? And if so, How would they know it was Rodericks knife to steal." Turning to Rydel to see if his friend had any questions, he continues. "I have no idea if she's involved or not, but the knife was missing and only you two and the deceased knew of it's existence."

Sara, tell us where she lives. Daktani and Brinya are both missing today as well. I don't like how everything is adding up. I won't be taking no for an answer on this either. I won't say if she is or is not involved yet. But there is enough suspicion that she should at least be questioned and investigated. I don't believe you were or would be involved, which leaves her our only connection from this.

"Poisoned wolves. Poisoned men. This is a concentrated attack on Trunau!" Shel concludes after her noninvasive autopsy. "But they didn't kill him right away. They must have wanted information, or something else. They could have slit his wrists while he was unconscious from the venom, they risked keeping him alive for a reason." She washes her hands with more summoned water. "Imara, we should probably search Katreza's room while we're here." Good thing Rydell isn't here, that would NOT go over well. Imara fights down a rising tide of alarm. How could all of this have happened?

"Try not to forget when people go missing. That would be helpful." Again, she's being more matter-of-fact than nasty. "Something is really, really wrong here. Honestly, the best thing you can do is prepare for an attack. Find someone to cover or destroy that sword you have above the door outside. And Shel is right - we need to see her room."

"Katreza is missing?!" Shel shouts, whirling on the priestess. She had tried to be calm -- she always tried to be calm in front of Phoenix, he's an impressionable young bird after all -- but now the suppressed, fiery personality is coming out. "HOW did you lose an ENTIRE person who can't even WALK?! She was at deaths door when I saw her yesterday, she would need to be hauled out in a cart or something. HOW did that get by every single person working here!?"

Phoenix begins shrieking and flying into the walls, beautiful black feathers shedding from his impeccable avian form with each impact.

I'm starting to doubt that. leave it to... He stops himself from finishing his sentence and shakes his head.

Thank you Sara, I appreciate it. It seems we can't do much more here, If you do see any of them, please let us know. Rory, I think we should head to Agrit's.

Looking from Sara to Rydell, Rory nods, "Thank you for your time Counselor, Rydel's right if you see them, please let us know." Picking up the knife and returning it to the saddle bags, he mounts Thistle, turning her with his knees towards the door., "Come on girl. Let's go to Agrit's" Happy to be headed back outside, Thistle excitedly moves towards the door.

Shel and Imara go search Katreza's room and find no sign of violence. Everything is neat and tidy. They leave to go to Agrit's shop seeing Ovril standing outside and soon Rory and Rydell arrive as well.

We were able to confirm that Roderick was murdered - I will let Shel fill you in on the details, as that's her area, not mine. I think we need to notify Halgra and have her place Trunau on high alert." She pauses before her next statement, knowing the reaction it will bring. "...Katreza is missing as well."

At least we know that much, lets ask Agrit to see to these sword paintings, I don't like how they seem placed purposefully. And Yes, it seems that nearly half the towns half-orc population seems to be missing, and that the only person other than Sara and Rodrick that new about this dagger He pulls out and shows the hopeknife they found in Rodrick's room.

was Urnsul, which paints a poor light on her and Daktani and... wait a minute. He pauses for a moment clearly lost in a chain of thoughts.

I remember them, Urnsul and Daktani and.. and another two talking awfully secretively the other night. Who was it... Vorum! and... Rishka! Thats right! I didn't think much of it, but... if I recall correctly, Vorum is from freedom town. If any one of them are involved, all of them could be. Actually, it seems that visit to Sara proved quite valuable. We should check if any of them are still around, and go investigate their respect homes. Does anyone know where Vorum lives? It was outside town correct?

Nodding in aggreement with Rydell, he leans down and whispers to Thistle, "Steady girl.' While Rydell pulls the knife out of the saddlebags. "Like Rydell said, Urnsul was the only other person who the dagger was ordered by Rodrick and she had opportunity to take it."

When Rydell mentioned the painted swords, Rory puts his hand to his forhead, "I forgot to tell you all, the graffiti was using both Universal magic and evocation magic. Eventually, we should check the swords to see if they are the same." He nods over his shoulder, "Maybe Agrit can shed some light on the magic used."

Thistle begins to prance about slightly as Rory's stomach growls. "I agree we need to find Daktani, Vorum and Rishka. But let's not automatically assume their a part of this just because they are half orc, that would be wrong. But maybe they can help us find Urnsul."

Letting out a whine, Thistle turns and looks at Rory, "But first I need to feed my wolf." He nods his head in Phoenix's direction. " Let's get something to eat soon, before she tries and eat Shel's chicken,"

"Thank you, Agrit! I know you'll figure it out!" Imara breaks into a huge grin for the first time that day as she looks upon her mentor.

Turning to the others, she says, "I agree with Rory. We should grab a quick lunch - we'll think better if we've eaten. And fight better...if it comes to that. If we eat at the longhouse, we can pass word onto the militia while we're there. Then I say we start with Daktani and Brinya's room." She pauses and looks to the rest of the group, waiting for their opinions.

He knelt and glanced over the wolves and nodded. looking at Ovril he wrote on a piece of paper:

These young wolves were trained to attack. It's not a good thing. They would have attacked the first thing they came across unless they were directed to attack someone in particular, usually by scent directive. Did they come right at you folks? If so someone doesn't want you investigating....

Ovril passes Imara the note given to him by Silvermane. "Yet more proof to underline our worst fears." It's clear to see that Ovril has been rattled by all they've managed to puzzle together so far. From the grizzly scene of the murder to the plot behind it that they're uncovering bit by bit. "That's a sound plan, Imara. Let us stay together, for it's clear there are eyes watching us from the shadows, waiting for the right moment to strike."

I *FINALLY* got my glasses. Hallelujah, I can read again and get through my days without killer headaches and nausea.

Rydel, are you keeping the murder weapon on you or do you want Rory to put it back in his saddle bags?

Rory nods politely to Agrit. "Thank you Councilor." He turns Thistle moving her out the door, headed for the Longhouse and lunch.

Nodding in agreement with Orvil, "Staying together is a good idea."

As they move he comments to Imara, "Going to Daktani's and Brinya's room at the boarding house after lunch seemspractical. Then maybe out to the Barterstone to find Vorum and Rishka?"

He pauses for a moment, turning to Shel. "Shel, Imara mentioned you could fill us in on the details as to how you confirmed Roderic was murdered, would now be a good time?"

One of the Corporals in town. I live at Longhouse Dedicated, honest and straight forward

The group begins the trek up the hill to the longhouse on the way Corporal Harlon approaches you.

Hi Rory. Rydell. Imara...Shel right? and you...I think youre Ovril. Hey. Im not sure what to do with this information. Its important though. I cant go to Kurst, Hes overloaded with handling everything with the Militia with Jagrin out on patrol and Omast putting a drunk on after finding out about Rodericks death. Halgra is busy and I dont think I should bother her with this information.

He pauses. The Stablemaster Darrick and The Wainwright Samuel are stirring up talk. They are spreading rumors that the half orcs in town killed Roderick, thats why so many of them are missing, and theres a horde of orcs coming for Trunau and we need to abandon the town and head to Lastwall before the attack hits. At this point they've only got a dozen or so ears. But I can see some of the militia members are beginning to talk...and I hear whispers of whispers...If this gets going it could become like a whirlwind spreading through the town and destroy morale.

Ive been away from DM'ing on the boards for a while...but have truly gotten the itch to do so again.

Im looking for 5 players to delve into the realms of role playing the Giant Slayer Adventure Path.

About me:
Ive been DMing games in person since 1975...yes that makes me old ;) and in role playing forums since about 2000, though I recently took a multi-year hiatus because of personal things. I am a player oriented DM and am more about the joint experience than exploring the newest thing I ran across.

The Crunch for the game:
1. 20 point buy
2. NO EVIL.
3. NO 3PP
4. Races: All Core + Duergar, Gnoll, Goblin, Hobgoblin, Kobold, Ratfolk, Skinwalker, Aasimar, Drow (Common), and Tiefling, Android. nothing else.
5. Classes: All Core + Alchemist, Cavalier, Gunslinger, Inquisitor, Magus, Oracle, Shifter, Witch + All Hybrid Classes. We will be using the unchained versions of The Rogue, Barbarian, and Monk....

Nothing else. Don't Ask please.

6. Max Hit Points for 1st level and you can roll for each level after. If you roll a 1 of 2, take 1 above half instead. You can always choose to take the 1 above half if you'd like.
7. Average starting Gold.
8. 2 traits, one of which has to be from The Players Guide.
9. We will be using Background Skills
10. We will be using Hero Points
11. All Players will receive a Hope Knife. An Engraved Masterwork Dagger, that hangs on a leather tether around your neck....what does the engraving say?

If its not mentioned we wont be using it.

I ask that if you apply you commit to trying to post every day. I will do the same.

The Application: Unlike Many, I do not want you to create a character unless you are actually chosen. This isnt a race for who has the most time on their hands and create something quickly. I want to hand pick the folks who will go on this journey with me.

What I want-
1. Character Concept- Name, race, class what makes the character stand out
2. What campaign trait youd take from The players Guide Players Guide for Giant Slayer
3. Why youre in Trunau..tie it to your campaign trait.
4. What job do you have in Trunau? How do you make a living
5. Have you played it before? and if you have can you separate your knowledge from person to character?
6. What makes you tick as a player? Why do you role play?
7. Complete this introduction of your player that will be used in your first post.

It's been a long day. The season has turned from the heat of summer to the kinder climate of fall. You know tomorrow will be a big day. Its The Hope Knife festival for Ruby, Chief Defender Halgra's Youngest Daughter. She is now of age, 11, when she will be bestowed her own personal Hope Knife, created for her by Sara Morninghawk. Tomorrow she will take the oath to defend Trunau until her death. Life is hard in Trunau, a settlement beyond Lastwall in The Hold of Belkzen...Orc Territory.

You think back to when you got your Hope Knfe, and who it was spoke for you Include a person from the players guide who spoke for you and why. You remember Them saying...

your name, by the traditions of our town, you have come of age or if you came to Trunau as an adult-You have joined our community. This hopeknife represents your responsibilities as an adult and defender of Trunau. You must be willing to use it on yourself, your fellow Trunauans, and your family—even me, should it come to that. It will be a far quicker death than that which the orcs will offer, and providing it is your duty. Do you swear to guard Trunau from all comers, and to use your hopeknife only for its intended purpose?”

“If the orcs come, and there is no other option, this is where you cut—here, here, and here.” Your Mentor demonstrates which arteries to sever while you watch. Then the hopeknife was sheathed and placed around your neck

Until tomorrow....but for tonight...

Note: I will be choosing 1 Primary Combatant (a character with a +1 BAB progression), 1 Arcane Caster (a character with up to level 9 arcane spells) 1 Divine Caster, (a character with up to level 9 divine spells), a trap finder (a character who can disable traps) and 1 Miscellaneous character who can step into several roles as a substitute in a pinch but necessarily having the requirements example: A Bard could step into the Arcane Caster Role or The Primary Combatant Role or The Trapfinder role depending on the build. ) as a final thing with your application tell me what role you wish to apply for.

Thank you for your interest...and lets make this a good game.

Dot.
Had to read the list of allowed races thrice, before acknowledging Grippli is not among them. I have a full Grippli Cleric build for this AP ready.
Well, maybe I can adjust it with another race.

Silver Crusade

tentative dot

I tried to tailor the list to races who might be in a desert badlands area.

thank you for 'dotting' I hope you do think it worthwhile to apply

Dotting - will read in details over the weekend. Thanks for offering to host, Michael

Dotting

Dotting. I've been wanting to enroll in one more adventure on these forums, and preferably in an AP that I know nothing about. Giantslayer definitely is an AP I know nothing about.

I'm thinking of an arcane or divine support caster. Class unknown, but I'll read the Player's Guide first and then see if anything thematically appropriate comes to mind.

From the requirements it seems like you intend all characters to be natives (or at least established inhabitants) of Trunau, however the players guide indicates that this is not necessary. Was that your intention?

Ammend this

Trunau Native: You were born and raised in the town of Trunau, one of the few human settlements in the orcdominated Hold of Belkzen. Orc attacks are an ever-present threat, and like all Trunauans, you have made the Standing
Vow: to hold Trunau against all attackers, orc or otherwise, to stand your ground, and to live free or die trying. Upon coming of age, you were given a hopeknife—a small, sheathed dagger, usually worn on a chain under your clothes—and taught how to use it to take your own life to avoid capture by orcs, or to grant the mercy of a quick death to the wounded. As a native,
you have served in Trunau’s militia, and fought alongside Patrol Captains Kurst and Rodrik Grath. You gain a +1 Knowledge Local and it is always a class skill for you. Additionally your tenacity in the face of adversity grants you a +1 trait bonus on Will saves.

Everyone will get the Hope Knife, as everyone has been through the ceremony.

Whether a Patrol leader from Lastwall who has been coming and going between Trunau and Last Wall for a while or a Local Hunter who has used Trunau as a base camp. or a Merchant who has traded with Trunau substantially.

My intent is for all to have sworn to protect Trunau, nut each may have other reasons they came to Trunau.

1. Character Concept- Cathirix, Hobgoblin, Unchained Rogue, Role: Trap Finder. What makes the character stand out? He is very disorganized for what people would assume for a Hobgoblin. Having never really grown up in "hobgoblin society"
2. What campaign trait you’d take from The Players Guide for Giant Slayer? Artifact Hunter
3. Why you’re in Trunau… tie it to your campaign trait. Dragged here by his father, who was an Artifact hunter also. Cathirix continues the search for artifacts now that his father has moved on in years.
4. What job do you have in Trunau? How do you make a living? Locksmith/Trapmaker/Engineer (He is legitimate that is not code for thief)
5. Have you played it before? and if you have can you separate your knowledge from person to character? NO
6. What makes you tick as a player? Why do you role-play? I really enjoy the cooperative storytelling aspects of role-playing and hitting people with axes in real life is frowned upon.
7. Complete this introduction of your player that will be used in your first post.

the only thing that I was wondering...

how adamant about using unchained barbarian. I have a barbarian, but there are some things that will not work using unchained.

not set in stone about that one...why?

Liberty's Edge

Will magic item crafting be allowed?

not prior to the game, but during the game sure.

I know you said not to create a character, and I have not, but I made this character for another giantslayer awhile back, so figured I might as well try his luck on another.

one of his big character points is an emotional/mental conflict over what a hopeknife represents.

anyway, to follow protocol
1: Rydell Derrick Ellindorr, Half-elf, Ranger. Undecided whether I will be going TWF or archery.
1.b: He is a bit edgy/angsty, prefers working alone or in a very small group. He made bold claims when his parents passed, and while he has yet to live up to those claims, he is determined to see them through. For having elven blood, his social "grace" seems particularly lacking as he comes off as gruff and even rude. overprotective of his sister.

2: Trunau Native

3:Lived here his whole life in Trunau. Lost his parents and now still resides here with his younger sister whom he takes care of (age 13-14 at present).

4: He is a hunter, though he often proclaims he is a scout and guardian, other than having joined the militia no one really took that particularly seriously until he managed to kill a small scouting group of orcs. He even had the wounds to prove it.

5: Yes, and yes. I DM'd a lot in pathfinder, so I know a lot of the monsters and mechanics already. That said, half the fun of RPing is making choices your character would make, not you. So, even if I know "this is dumb" as a player, if my character doesn't or thinks he can handle it they will go through with it.

6: I love getting into the mindset of "another person", making choices and acting in ways I don't or can't in life. Getting to watch their story, and the groups story, unfold like a book, and I've always loved books and stories. I admit that sometimes, after hard days or when sick I can't fully deliver on characters however. I also enjoy getting the chance to try out new classes and different character builds. I enjoy having a build come together, and do admit that sometimes, when a build proves not to work out I can lose a little interest, but only during combat. The character often stays fun.

7-introduction:

Rydell thinks back to when he got his Hope Knife, and who it was that spoke for him, Halgra herself. He never knew why exactly Halgra spoke for him. Perhaps because his father would not. Or, perhaps because Halgra and his father Tariel had known each other from before. No one had ever really told him, and he had not ever cared to ask. Now, he wasn't sure if he wanted to ask.. He remembered Them saying...

“Derrick Ellindorr, by the traditions of our town, you have come of age. This hopeknife represents your responsibilities as an adult and defender of Trunau. How I shook with excitement, I could hardly speak properly. I didn't truly realize the weight of the item I was receiving. The burden of responsibility that it meant. Nor the inner conflict it would lead to. I nodded my head up and down like young pup that can barely hold up his heads weight. Yes, I do. I finally managed to say.

“If the orcs come, and there is no other option, this is where you cut—here, here, and here.” She demonstrated which arteries to sever while I watched. Then the hopeknife was sheathed and placed around my neck

Until tomorrow....but for tonight...
A few drinks, and a good hot meal. He cast his gaze towards the outskirt of the town.
I wonder if, like me back then, she does not truly grasp that which is being given to her.. I wonder if anyone here wonders like me whether or not this tradition is a good one... I've said it a loud many times, but most brush it off. Is a knife, who's primary purpose was to end ones life, truly something to symbolize hope? Father didn't think so, he refused to ever have one. I'm inclined to agree...but... He shook himself from his musings to look down at his own hopeknife and the engraving running the length of the blade.

In hope, find strength He muttered as he traced the elven letters his father had inscribed on the blade with his finger. When he was younger, he had thought the word hope referred to the blade itself, but now, he knew it meant a different hope. After several long seconds he shook his head before glancing to the stars in the sky. Not the time, things to be done. He took a deep breath before looking back down and walking towards...

Rydell would be a misc or combat character (being a ranger), but is highly likely to wind up being focused on ranged attacks.

To throw my concept in the ring:

1. Character Concept- Brutus "Brute Justice" Julian, Human, Alchemist, Role: Primary Combatant.
What makes the character stand out? Brutus is a middle-aged ex-gladiator of the "professional wrestling" variety. When he couldn't immortalize himself by means of fame, he turned to alchemy to achieve it more practically. His long years out of the spotlight have atrophied what few skills he had.
2. What campaign trait you’d take from The Players Guide for Giant Slayer? Dwarf-Trained
3. Why you’re in Trunau… tie it to your campaign trait. When Brutus finally washed out of the fighting circuit in Janderhoff, his morose wanderings took him over the Mindspins and between odd, martially inclined jobs. It wasn't until he met his wife, a dwarven alchemist native to Trunau, that he finally was inspired to settle down and pursue a new path in life.
4. What job do you have in Trunau? How do you make a living? Local Butcher and occasional sawbones for the Trunau militia.
5. Have you played it before? and if you have can you separate your knowledge from person to character? While I haven't played before, I have a passing familiarity from listening to a podcast. As a forever GM, I have plenty of experience separating personal knowledge from character knowledge when I do get to play.
6. What makes you tick as a player? Why do you role-play? I love getting to explore and express characters, especially if I can make the rest of the table smile.
7. Complete this introduction of your player that will be used in your first post.

You think back fifteen years to when you got your hopeknife, the night after the wedding. Agrit Staginsdar had been the one to speak for you, the culmination of a long friendship between the two untraditional couples. You remember her saying...

"Brutus, by the traditions of our town, you have pledged yourself - an outsider - to become part of our community. This hopeknife represents your responsibilities as an adult and defender of Trunau. You must be willing to use it on yourself, your fellow Trunauans, and your family—even me, should it come to that. It will be a far quicker death than that which the orcs will offer, and providing it is your duty. Despite not having a full BAB progression, I'd like to present Brutus as a primary combatant, as I plan to take character options that make him a flexible frontline fighter that goes light on alchemy.

Yes! I'm working on a half-orc Slayer to serve as a melee front-liner and a trap-finder

Hi, I am expressing my interest. I'll write a more complete post when I can, but this weekend is probably going to be busy for me. A mountain druid is what I'm thinking.

Liberty's Edge

1. Character Concept:Shel, half-orc shaman.
1A. What makes the character stand out: Shel is a young half-orc woman that wandered into Trunau one day eight years ago. She doesn't talk about her past and has many tribalistic scars and great skill with magic.
Role applying for: Divine caster. Shaman are flexible, if we're building characters after being chosen she could fill the flex slot.
2. Campaign Trait: Artifact Hunter.
3. Why you're in Trunau: Lives in Trunau for most of her life, nowhere else to go or particular desire to leave. She's taken an interest in magical artifacts some of the out-of-towners she's guided have spoken of.
4. What job do you have in Trunau? Acts as a guide in the areas near Trunau as well as a healer for man and beast alike.
5. Have you played it before? Nope.
6. What makes you tick as a player? Why do you role play? Creative outlet, I guess. Work and travel for work takes up about 80 hours a week, so I can't have many of the normal hobbies available to most people. TTRPG offers a lot more freedom than videogames.

You think back to when you got your Hope Knife. Halgra had taken Shel in when she wandered into town years ago, bloody and beaten. You remember her saying...

“Shel, by the traditions of our town, you have come of age or if you came to Trunau as an adult-You have joined our community. This hopeknife represents your responsibilities as an adult and defender of Trunau. You must be willing to use it on yourself, your fellow Trunauans, and your family—even me, should it come to that. Character Concept- Sabine Goldlust, human merchant from the far deserts who comes often Role: divine support. I will be playing an evangelist cleric of horus with the animal domain using variant channel to daze with sacred conduit trait, improved channel, and selective channel and then using bardic performance and spells to buff the party. At fifth level I will have a boon companioned animal companion.
What makes the character stand out? She wears flowing long robes and carries a khopesh, worships Horus, and talks to horses.
2. What campaign trait you’d take from The Players Guide for Giant Slayer? Dragonfoe
3. Why you’re in Trunau… tie it to your campaign trait. Her ancestor was a great dragon slayer and she dreams of one day finding adventure and following in his footsteps
4. What job do you have in Trunau? How do you make a living? Horse merchant
5. Have you played it before? and if you have can you separate your knowledge from person to character? No
6. What makes you tick as a player? Why do you role-play? I want the catharsis, the transformation of self into another place much like reading a great novel only with chose your own adventure and enjoy with others helping to create at the same time simply marvelous!

1. Character Concept- CG Human Cleric of Bergelmir, Role: Divine. What makes the character stand out? Racial Heritage (Grippli) and Agile Tongue feats: His unusally longue tongue often disgusts common folk. He researches genealogy to find out about his own heritage, but also about the "Giant" problem in this area. He thinks it could be solved with knowledge and diplomacy. He's pretty dumb, though, but likeable and helpful.
2. What campaign trait you’d take from The Players Guide for Giant Slayer? Student of Giantkind
3. Why you’re in Trunau… tie it to your campaign trait. recently retreated into the town, because his family's farm in the mountains was overrun by orcs.

Garidan thinks back to when he got his Hope Knife, and who it was spoke for him. Councilor Agrit Staginsdar, a dwarfen scholar who was like a teacher when Garidan grew up. Agrit was always happy to answer the many questions Garidan had had. You remember her saying...

It will be a far quicker death than that which the orcs will offer, and providing it is your duty. Do you swear to guard Trunau from all comers, and to use your hopeknife only for its intended purpose?”

“If the orcs come, and there is no other option, this is where you cut—here, here, and here.” Councilor Agrit Staginsdar demonstrates which arteries to sever while you watch. Then the hopeknife was sheathed and placed around your neck.

Until tomorrow... but for tonight...

1. Character Concept- A gruff ex-soldier with scores to settle.

2. What campaign trait you’d take from The Players Guide for Giant Slayer? Orphaned by giants

3. Why you’re in Trunau… tie it to your campaign trait. Most of Gabsen's family was from Truneau's vicinity... and most were killed in an attack, years ago.

4. What job do you have in Trunau? How do you make a living? He's a sword for hire, and a soldier at heart, with a grudge to settle

5. Have you played it before? and if you have can you separate your knowledge from person to character? NO

6. What makes you tick as a player? Why do you role-play? No real taboos as a player. Been a roleplayer for a few years now (more than 30 years, if you really have to ask..)

7. Complete this introduction of your player that will be used in your first post.

Spoiler:
It would be a long night. Blood was in the air, Gabsen could smell it, and he was sure some of the blood will be his. You know that, when you have been a soldier for more years you dare to count. Sooner or later, a battle will come, and the damn orcs will try to kill and maim, once again. Gabsen was no hero, he wouldn't dream to save the town all by himself. But killing a few orcs, here and there.. That would be a good thing. Staying alive would be a great thing too, but most of the time you don't have a word to say, maybe some prayers to mutters, that's all, if you believed in the gods. Gabsen didn't. As far as he was concerned, gods happened to other people. Steel, that what mattered to the muscular man. Steel to protect him, steel to kill his foes with. The Hope knife was sharpened with thankful silent respect for the skilled smith. Gabsen understood the knife, and its last resort, grim utility. The memories came crashing, and the knuckles were whitening on the dagger's short handle. He needed what passed for beer in Truneau. He had taste worse, honestly.

Grand Lodge

Definiitely interested. I have a concept from another GS PbP audition that I’ll add here in a bit.

Welcome back GMMichael, Glad to see you GMing again!. How long will you be keeping the recruitment open for?

character idea:

Since I first read the Giant Slayer players guide I thought it would be interesting to play a Tranauian halfling 'outrider.' I always imagined him as a Cavalier or Ranger. Sadly that type of character doesn't fit the 'traditional' Frontliner, though he would be + 1 BAB, so I've never finished him. I think he would fit well as the Miscellaneous character, the main goal is a mounted (wolf) combatant, scout/outrider. Interestingly, he could possibly be a druid or a hunter, I will work on some ideas and see if I can put together more backstory. Again, thanks for running the game!

Grand Lodge

1. Character Concept: Asher, a Human Warpriest of Vildeis, built as an archer. He seems grim from a distance, but is jovial and has a love of mechanics. He'll play as primary damage dealer, but will be able to back up a full Divine caster as a backup healer, condition remover and buffer, as well as stabilize downed players from a distance.

2. What campaign trait youd take from The players Guide Players Guide for Giant Slayer: Orpaned by Giants

3. Why youre in Trunau..tie it to your campaign trait: Was a wandering agent of Vildeis, righting wrongs and protecting the weak, and found an opportunity to settle in a place always in danger

4. What job do you have in Trunau? Asher is an engineer by trade, and had traveled with his father, inspecting mills, and lost him during an attack ina remote outpost in Taldor. He now looks after the mills, water pumps, and the mechanisms of the Smithy.

5. Have you played it before? I had attempted to run it PbP in Google Plus years ago, but never got past the first half of Book 1. I can easily play in character.

6. What makes you tick as a player? Why do you role play? It's been a hobby for almost 40 years, and I love to explore various aspects of my personality through characters in different worlds and environments. Part of it is exploring things I could never do myself. I also have a love of roleplay as a collaborative creative activity.

7. Complete this introduction of your player that will be used in your first post.

It's been a long few years since Asher first settled into Trunau. When he first met the town, it had been after several long, lonely years on the road. His duties had never let his dwell long in any one place. There was always another evil that needed quelling further afield. But as he accompanied the ragtag caravan members he had helped rescue from an Orc and Ogre raid, he saw that these people lived on the razor edge of danger, but made it a home nonetheless. He felt kinship with these people of the knife, as his own Mistress was a patroness of daggers herself as the weapon on justice.

Asher was running around, Hope Knife resting against his skin, under his jerkin, always providing comfort as he ran through his mental checklist, making sure that the mill was ready for the incoming harvest and supplemental grain shipments. The town was busy preparing for the coming Hopeknife ceremony, and he had to do his part for that as well. He liked the games that would be put on, and looked forward to once again contending at the archery lanes with the best of the Chief Defender's squad. There was even a Black Arrow among them.

Silver Crusade

Also dotting for interest.

My character idea is for either a dwarf cleric or inquisitor. He uses the Growth domain and a dwarven longhammer to grow to large size in fights and uses his 20ft Reach to whack around giants and orcs as another giant! Fight fire with fire, as they say. As an answer to your questions:

1. Character Concept- Name, race, class what makes the character stand out.

Name: Thurfan Hammerfall. Male Dwarf Cleric or Inquisitor. As noted above, he stands out quite literally by growing himself to large size by his growth domain and fighting his racial enemies with a big hammer of Dwarven Justice! Depending on his class (he only needs the domain feature for the concept to work), his cleric form would take the restoration domain second to get empowered healing eventually and condition removal from level 1. He spends hs dwarf favored class bonus into more uses of his growth domain so that he can fight as a 'giant' all day long if needed. If selected as the main divine caster he will take the healer's hands/incredible healer feats to heal large amounts without having to spend spells, even.

The inquisitor version gains a lot more skillpoints than the cleric and more damaging abilities. He can fill the role of a jack of all trades character well since he can be a good main melee damage dealer (he lacks full BAB but has a huge amount of buffs to compensate), a backup healer and a skill monkey, though he lacks trapfinding.

2. What campaign trait youd take from The players Guide Players Guide for Giant Slayer?

Giant-blooded, purely for flavor. There's a reason he grows so big...

3. Why youre in Trunau..tie it to your campaign trait.

He got in trouble in the mistmountains for his tendency to grow big at inopportune times and clog up mineshafts. Eventually, he got exiled from his clan for causing too much (unintentional) trouble. He has since settled in Trunau, a village out in the open, where he was able to put his growing abilities to good use. He learned there of Erastil and his divine portfolio (including the growth domain), and studied this god in an effort to control his own size effect.

Since mastering it, he has gone to work defending this place that accepted him. He normally works as a stonemason, where he uses his ability to grow to make easy repairs on the town's pallisades, building roofs, chimneys and the like. On some days, he instead uses his giant form to assist the town militia in learning how to fight foes that are much bigger than them.

4. What job do you have in Trunau? How do you make a living.

See above.

5. Have you played it before? and if you have can you separate your knowledge from person to character?

I've very recently been accepted into a different giantslayer that was barely started, but is moving at a very slow pace. I'm afraid there's a big chance the campaign will end before we even leave Trunau for the first time. I have barely any knowledge of what happens except for what occurs directly after the initiation party. I don't know why it happened since we haven't been able to investigate yet. I hope that is clear enough and avoids spoilers for others.

6. What makes you tick as a player? Why do you role play?

I think the information in my profile answers this fairly well, so I'll link it below in a spoiler.

Information about me:

I'm a thirty-ish (vague because it makes me feel younger!) physician from the Netherlands. I grew up on the Baldur's Gate games along with the Super Nintendo RPG classics (Chrono trigger, Lufia, etc) and have been hooked on RPG's ever since. I started playing tabletop RPG's with 3.5 but it was a bit too complicated for a group of 14-15 year olds like us to really grip beyond a base level. I moved to D&D 4e from there and then to pathfinder when it became more popular around here and 4e died. Since I was working then and had the income to support it, I frequently travelled between Germany, England and the Netherlands for the weekend-long pathfinder conventions. I would have done this more often but had to skip last year due to becoming a dad and this year due to Covid-19.

Having played most of the later seasons of PFS and through one AP (Wrath of the Righteous), I consider myself decently experienced in pathfinder first edition but not overly so. I still occasionally make a mistake here and there and keep learning from them. I'm not into rule-lawyering and try to avoid arguments about the rules at all costs. They tend to sour the experience for at least 1 person at the table.

On PBP, I'm fairly new and have only started doing this last year. My first experience there was a bit rough since I had to try and get a grasp of things in the middle of a level 15/mythic tier 6 campaign that went pretty wild pretty fast! When the GM stopped there, I paused for six months and came back afterwards. Now, I am in one homebrew PBP campaign, war for the crown and an Iron Gods campaign where I jumped in midway. If you want to check those out to get an idea of my posting style, the aliases are Sorogar, Raesilia and Elrys. Generally, I try to avoid one-liner posts and try to include at least one or two things someone after me could react to.

On posting, I post at least once per day and try to make reactive and engaging (and hopefully amusing at times!) posts, following the stickied PBP guides and commendments on the forum as best as I can. With the iron gods campaign progressing a bit slowly, I am confident I could do at least two additional campaigns simultaneouisly before time issues become a problem.

Completion of empty fields and slight dialogue addition:

You think back to when you got your Hope Knfe, and who it was spoke for you - the same Helgra of the Blackened blades, originally an outsider like himself. It was fitting that it was her.

You remember her saying:

“Thurfan, by the traditions of our town, you have joined our community. This hopeknife represents your responsibilities as an adult and defender of Trunau. You must be willing to use it on yourself, your fellow Trunauans, and your family — even me, should it come to that. Do you swear to guard Trunau from all comers, and to use your hopeknife only for its intended purpose?”

"I'd reather use me hammer to crush enough orc skulls that such a thing is never needed! But I promise I will grant death to those around me if defeat is certain, according to Trunau tradition."

“Then if the orcs come, and there is no other option, this is where you cut—here, here, and here.”

Cellion- Despite your intent of your build, Brutus would be a miscellaneous . That doesnt negate your build, it means he doesnt fill one of the other categories requiremtns (although trap finder could be a possibility)....but your build intent makes him a MISC.

Robert Henry- Thank you. The character as a Cavalier or Ranger would fit the primary combatant, as a Druid the Divine Caster, and as a Hunter the Miscellaneous...just choose which you think would be most fun.

trevor- Cleric would fill the divine slot and Inquisitor the miscellaneous. which would you prefer?

as to when I will stop accepting applications. I dont like to set a date.

When I have at least 3 for each category to choose from and no more than 5 then I will close it and start analyzing both the player and the character. I can tell you it wont be long based on the reception.

now for those of you with multiple concepts...please pick the one you would most like to play. I know its easy to get caught up with the thought...if I limit myself I limite my chances of getting in.

my thoughts on this run to...if its a character you try to squueze in, youre likely to get bored of the character anywayand drop down the road...my experience.

but if its a character youre excited to play, you'll put the effort in. so take the chance. then as I start analyzing if i want more info Ill ask.

1. Character Concept- Name, race, class what makes the character stand out
-Ovril Necul Havayselvay (subject to change). Human (Varisian). Witch (Cartomancer). The fact he can predict the future using a harrowing deck and draws his spells from his connection to the Spirits of the Harrow. Okay, so perhaps he can’t predict the future, but he likes to believe he can spot glimpses of the future through Harrow readings. He’s a smart cookie, but everything comes out stupid when his heart gets involved.
2. What campaign trait youd take from The players Guide Players Guide for Giant Slayer
-Orphaned By Giants or Artifact Hunter. The former has my preference, but if there’s someone else rocking it and no one picked Artifact Hunter, then Artifact Hunter will do.
3. Why youre in Trunau..tie it to your campaign trait.
-Tragedy struck Ovril’s family some two years ago. Mom’s black cat disappeared one morning and as the rest of the clan drove off to their next camping spot, the Hayvaselvay’s lingered to try and find the cat. The beast was never found, but upon leaving the camping spot, a spoke of one of the wagon’s wheels broke. Much later that day, with the sun no longer hanging in the sky, the family caught up to the rest of the clan, only to find that the clan’s camping spot had been raided by monstrous humanoids. Smaller footprints dotted the ground amidst gigantic ones: the poor Varisians were no match for their monstrous foes.
Ovril got away with his life that day, but his expanded family did not. Ovril, his parents and his younger sister settled near Trunau, one of the closest settlements, but Ovril’s parents had troubles coming to terms with what happened and the black cloud of bad luck that seems to follow the Hayvaselvay’s no matter where they go. His parents left for Nirmathas after staying in the tormented town of Trunau for only three months, but a summer fling (possibly Tyari?) caused Ovril to decide to stay behind in Trunau and take a chance. At love, at a meaningful life. The reading of the cards that day had been enormously positive, so what could go wrong? Well, the cards weren’t wrong, but the girl just so happened to love another boy just a little more.
Had he inherited his family’s bad luck? Had he, by staying behind, blessed his parents and sister with a happy life? Ovril sure likes to believe so.
4. What job do you have in Trunau? How do you make a living
-Reads fortunes, accepts donations for his spellcasting abilities, and crafts custom cards for Harrowing decks. Suffice to say, Ovil isn’t flush with coin. He helps out at Tyari’s Sanctuary, but more so more for Kazrerza than anything. The orc’s visions - and what meaning can be pried from them - keep Ovril up at night.
5. Have you played it before? and if you have can you separate your knowledge from person to character?
-No. I have read the Player’s Guide and that’s it.
6. What makes you tick as a player? Why do you role play?
-Interesting characters. Challenging but fair gameplay. A campaign that allows for enough player input to feel like my thoughts, ideas and decisions matter. A story that not just respects the players, but integrates their personality and background into how it all plays out.
I could care less about min-maxing, and I rather work out an interesting concept and find a way to make it work.
D&D/PF is not a form of escapism for me, but it is a platform through which I can channel my emotions and thoughts. I try to make characters who let me do just that.

You think back to when you got your Hope Knfe, and who it was spoke for you, Tyari Varvatos. Love might have cut the two of you apart, but the fact you were willing to dedicate yourself to this community showed the priestess that you’re part of Trunau whether you accept it or not.
You remember Them saying...

All right, I'll go with inquisitor then. Seems like there's more interest in the primary divine role than there is in the generalist one this time. Might be a good change of pace since I usually am the main divine caster in other PBP's.

I apologize, if allowed i would like to switch preference to main divine caster. I read up more on inquisitor and they both do not get the FCB that allows for more domain uses nor do they get the bonus spells of the domain (Id forgotten about this last bit). As a result, the concept of fighting enlarged for a sinificant time each day only works for (dwarf) cleric.

Silver Crusade

Quick question

Would you be open to the idea of allowing everyone the option of power attack/deadly aim/combat expertise instead of requiring the feat?(so long as stat requirements are met)

Trevor yes I'll switch you.

Rorek unsure let me think on this

Rorek is basically proposing to use the Elephant in the Room rules, which is a way to strongly reinforce the martial roles. To be honest, I like them, but they’re not really necessary.

Hi there, thanks for running this and I'd be interested in submitting a character for this as well; I will have my application filled out by the end of the weekend. Thinking most likely a Tiefling Gunslinger (Primary Combat) or a Human? Staff Magus (Misc.).

Silver Crusade

elephant in the room rules are a lot more than allowing power attack/deadly aim etc. They change a lot, and because of that I'm hesitant to suggest them in their entirety to people. I like them because it lets characters do something other than "hit with two swords" or "shoot things" or "well,I can only trip, no idea how to grapple sorry" thanks to lowering the feat investment needed. It also makes using dex for combat maneuvers a lot easier.

But what I asked is something I used far before I found those rules.

That said, I also change power attack so that its a flat -1 to hit, +2 damage to all attacks two handed or not. I find the players enjoy it, and I enjoy as DM as I don't need to remember if "enemy X can power attack or not" and don't need to worry about whether its two handed or one handed. Just a flat trade

Yes Im not a fan of The Elephant in The Room Rules, as it changes the game fairly substantially. Yes i do know all the arguments for the changes.

But I do acknowledge Rorek that your suggestion is fairly minor Im leaning to yes...but since that does not effect applications at all, Im leaving that open for the moment. I may do something along those lines but alter it a bit. As I said, let me think on it.

Im putting this on notice.

I will only be accepting 4 more applicants and all character ideas must be completed by Monday 10/05. I want to start the game by 10/12 and that will give a week for doing characters and the minor tweaking of house rules for the game.

Im not one to string recruitments for weeks and just tell more folks they cant play.

Thank you all who have applied at this point.

The application:

1. Character Concept- Name, race, class what makes the character stand out
Rory Cornelius, halfling Hunter. He’s a scruffy wolf riding scavenger.
2. What campaign trait you'd take from The players Guide Players Guide for Giant Slayer
Trunau Native
3. Why you're in Trunau..tie it to your campaign trait.
Born and raised
4. What job do you have in Trunau? How do you make a living
Rory is a scavenger and sometimes leather worker, he is also an outrider for the militia.
5. Have you played it before? and if you have can you separate your knowledge from person to character?
I Started it one time with a halfling rogue, didn’t get very far (still first level when he died). I will be able to keep player knowledge and character knowledge separated.
6. What makes you tick as a player? Why do you role play?
Started playing D&D in college back in 1980, stopped after college until a few years ago when I started playing here online. Why do I role-play? I enjoy the storytelling process. I really like creating a well crafted character that becomes a part of the story. I generally create my character young (the hero’s journey of a sort) giving them a backstory of family and place, but not a lot of personal experience yet.

Sitting at the bar in the Ramblehouse, Rory looks into his pint at the last sip of his ale, 'We'll tommorow is Ruby's big day. I remember it like it was yesterday, even though it was eight years ago. A warm summer night Da and Grandpa Tribim so proud.' Rory swigged the last of the ale, 'Grandpa Tribim asked his friend Jagrin Grath to present the knife and swear the oath.' Lifting his empty pint he waives it at the young halfling barmaid.

'His hands look huge around the halfling hopeknife I remember him growling the oath "Rory, son of Angus grandson of Tribim, by the traditions of our town, you you have joined our community.

Looking up he smiles at the pretty barmaid as she drops off another pint. He noticed her hoepknife hanging on her lovely neck. 'I remember nodding and wispering "I swear" 'Old Grath scowled then, holding my knife between his thumb and fingers so I could see it, then demonstrated which arteries to sever. His voice louder “If the orcs come, and there is no other option, this is where you cut—here, here, and here.” Then he sheathed the knife and placed it around my neck.'

Rory looks down at his own knife, sipping the new pint of ale. Realizing the barmaid was hovering near, he winks at her. 'Well, tomorrow we will celebrate with Ruby, but tonight we will see what trouble I can get into.'

Rory’s Background:

I found where I had typed a backstory for a potential cavalier, I’ve altered it slightly so it would fit a hunter, but Rory is still the same type of character I want to play, and the backstory works for him.

At first glance you might assume that Rory was raised by wolves. Your assumption would not be too far from the truth.

Rory’s parents grew up Trunau and fell in love in the lull between the storms of combat. Well it’s more truthful to say that Rory's da grew up near Trunau and his ma Katherine grew up in Trunau; the daughter of the merchant craftsman Rory Tribin. Grandpa Tribin made leather goods, as a matter of fact he supplied the militia with all their leather needs at a very fair price.

Rory’s Da, Angus Cornelius, grew up living outside the walls of Trunau in a Halfling hole cleverly disguised as a wolf lair, they called it “wolves den.” He was the youngest son of Sean and Irlana Cornelius, all three brothers born late in life; years after their previous children had died in an orc attack. Angus’ parents had been the last of the “Halfling watch;” outriders which years ago, with the fall of the sunwall, fought a running battle against the orcs when they had driven the Halflings from their home in the highlands. The ‘watch’ continued to protect the Halflings as they scratched out a living in the lowlands of Belkzen. The ‘watch’ became staunch defenders of the Hordeline seeing it as the best way to protect the Halflings and humans living behind it. When the Hordeline fell the few halflings who survived fell back to Trunau and have been defending it since. At its lowest point the ‘watch’ had dropped to two riders, grandma and grandpa. With the births of Angus (Rory’s da) and Ian and Sean (his uncles) that count went to five. While their ranks have swollen comparatively with the explosion of both Ian and Sean’s families Angus had only one child; Rory.

Angus has a gift with the staff sling, even as a young man he was asked by the Chief Defender to teach the militia how to use it. That is where he met Katy, for Angus it was love at first sight. Katy needed some convincing. Eventually Angus’ persistence paid off and she succumbed and with her father’s permission they were wed. Angus left the breeding and training of the wolves to his brother Ian; and Sean took over escorting the caravans. Angus moved to town with Katy and her father and actually began to learn leather work. Shortly thereafter the whole family was excited to learn that Katy was expecting their first child. Unfortunately Katy had similar difficulties as her own mother and she died giving life to Rory. Grandpa Tribin lost his daughter the same way he lost his wife. Angus lost the love of his life. He named the child Rory, keeping the promise he had made to Katy.

Rory’s early life had been in the leather shop, Angus felt that staying in town and with Katy’s dad was the best opportunity for the child. Angus was able to craft the rougher items, and in time he became a competent crafter of leather and hide armor. Then during an orc attack seven summers ago Grandpa Tribin was killed. Angus was not skilled enough to maintain the leather shop and the militia needed to begin importing the leather items they used. Angus and Rory moved back to “Wolves Den”. It had been empty since Angus’ parents had died, both Ian and Sean having moved away when they became successful business men.

“Wolves Den” was aptly named. It had been built under a pile of large sandstone rocks, with the narrow entryway in the cleft between two rocks that went back and down fifteen feet. You entered the first chamber, the stables, which looked like an ordinary wolves' lair, big enough for a large pack; dug out of rock and sand. The doorway to the Halflings home was well hidden in the rear. The house was carved out of the sandstone itself, what had been natural fissures were now halls and rooms much more space than Angus’ parents ever used.

Angus eked out a living for himself and Rory by hunting and going on raids into Orc territory. So what money they had came from the things they sold: recovered goods from Orcs, the hides of animals they'd hunted and the bounties collected from wild carnivores and vermin. Angus worked tirelessly as a scout and out rider for the Trunau Militia. He continued training the sling to new militia recruits and instructed the cavalry in the finer points of mounted warfare. But he refused to accept money for his contributions. He repeatedly explained that those were his responsibilities as a member of the watch, even if his brothers had forgotten he would not forget, nor would he let his son.

Angus taught Rory everything he knew. He taught him how to train the wolves, how to craft leather items, how to sneak through the brush and what few spells he learned. Everything Rory would need to be an outrider and scout for the militia. He also taught him all the histories of the watch; how they were founded by Lord Cornelius himself, how they were the finest riders of all the clans, how Cornelius died defending the Hold, how the riders of the watch died defending the sunwall. How their grandchildren died defending the Hordeline.

As Rory grew he knew he would become a scout and out rider for the Trunau Militia as one of the last members of the Halfling Watch. Now, a young man, he is ready to prove himself as a member of the community of Tranau.

1. Character Concept: "Three-Arm" Nisha Longshot (Last name may change), Tiefling Gunslinger. (Primary Combatant with a focus on pistols so she'll fighting up close)

1a. What makes your character stand out: Besides being the only tiefling around, Nisha is unusually coordinated with her tail both in and out of combat earning her the moniker "Three-Arm" (If allowed I would be keen on taking the Prehensile Tail Variant Trait). The adventure would also allow her to potentially improve her familiy's name after it had become a bit of a joke within Trunau

2. What campaign trait would you take from The players Guide Players Guide for Giant Slayer Giantslayer Scion for RP purposes over Trunau Native (though I can switch if preferred)
--General Idea: Adoptive Grandfather supposedly defeated a Giant in his youth (though nobody besides his family believes him)

3. Why are you in Trunau Raised in Trunau by adopted parent after being abandoned in the wilderness as an infant.

4. What job do you have in Trunau? How do you make a living: Patrolwoman/ village Militia (adopted parent's profession)

5. Have you played it before? and if you have can you separate your knowledge from person to character?: Nope never played this AP before (still new to pathfinder)

6. What makes you tick as a player? Why do you role play?: Nothing major for me. As along as everyone's engaged and having fun then so am I! For me, I love to RP because I love getting to watch characters you spent time creating and adventuring with grow and evolve as the story unfolds to unexpected places that can only be done within a format like this.

You think back to when you got your Hope Knfe, and who it was who spoke for you, Rodrik Grath, your father's superior in the village militia and one of the few people who didn't look down on Nisha immediately because of her unfortunate heritage.
You remember Them saying...
“Nisha Longshot, by the traditions of our town, you have come of age.
“If the orcs come, and there is no other option, this is where you cut—here, here, and here.”Rodrik demonstrates which arteries to sever while you watch. Then the hopeknife was sheathed and placed around your neck
Until tomorrow....but for tonight...

Okay, binging forth my character. Looking at the races, I did consider the skinwalker, but the druid will shapeshift anyway, so...

I am submitting Hundar, a NG half-orc druid with the mountain archetype. He has recently come to terms his racial heritage despite never having suffered much prejudice from his Trunau peers. Although he qualifies for the divine spot, I see him more in the flexible/misc spot. He contributes with his magic, but also front-line combat (moreso after getting access to shapeshifting), animal companion and outdoor skills.

I do log in everyday, especially to check on the two Rise of the Runelords games I'm running.

Specific questions from the recruitment:

Character concept: Hundar is a male NG half-orc druid with the mountain archetype. He stands out by being a reasonable guide in the forest as well as someone who keeps his cool and is reliable.
Campaign trait: He has the Vexing Defender campaign trait. He learned druidism from a small sect of mountain druids and they taught him to fight larger foes, especially using special mobility techniques.
Reason to be in Trunau: Hundar is in Trunau because his mother is from Trunau. He is the son of one of the orc raids and he left Trunau for a while, afraid to be hated by the community given his blood. He found solace with the mountain druids. Later, he came to visit his mother and found that he is not hated there, so he decided to stay.
Job in Trunau: Hundar helps with the occasional magical healing, but mostly being a spiritual guide and a consultant about plant things (crops or natural remedy, mostly). He also helps the town defense during raids.
Player's style: In terms of character, I really love spellcasting and melee/spellcasting hybrids. I tend to like my characters when they go about that line. Curiously, I have been having fun playing with skillful characters too.
In terms of the game itself, I have normally two things that make RPG fun. Usually, if I get the feeling that I'm contributing to the story going forward (although not always the way the GM wants to), that's when I get the most motivated. Also, I just like to see my character grow, regardless of the story. This is even more important when I'm not so invested in the story for some reason or another.
Played it before? Never. Everything I know about the AP comes from the player's guide.

You think back to when you got your Hope Knfe, and who it was spoke for you, Jagrin Grath. The man had developed into a father figure for you, as he took pity for your mother and cared for her. Despite his strict training, you have always respected him and took Jagrin's word seriously. You remember him saying:

“Hundar, by the traditions of our town, you have come of age. This hopeknife represents your responsibilities as an adult and defender of Trunau. 1. Character Concept- Name, race, class what makes the character stand out: Cocoa the ratfolk mountain witch

2. What campaign trait you'd take from The players Guide Players Guide for Giant Slayer: Student of Giantkind

3. Why you're in Trunau - tie it to your campaign trait: Cocoa is an occasional scout for Trunau. He spends most of his times in the hills and mountains surrounding the city. Sometimes he's up there collecting herbs or game. Other times, he's watching for roving bands of orcs or giants. He's fascinated by the tall folk and has spent hours watching their camps from afar. He's still relatively new and spends most of his time with other more experienced scouts.

Cocoa is a scout. He also collects herbs and game in the hills to sell in Trunau.

5. Have you played it before? and if you have can you separate your knowledge from person to character?: Have listened to the Glass Cannon Podcast but can definitely separate player knowledge and character knowledge.

6. What makes you tick as a player? Why do you role play?: I really enjoy going on adventures. And with Pathfinder, I can easily. It's all about the story for me - how does the group work together, what makes them tick.

Introduction:

It's been a long day. The season has turned from the heat of summer to the kinder climate of fall. You know tomorrow will be a big day. You think back to when you got your Hope Knife, and who it was spoke for you. Gorkis Meeson, the town's only resident apothecary, trained Cocoa in the use of herbs and introduced the ratfolk to his treasured familiar - Chocolate. You remember Them saying...

“Cocoa, by the traditions of our town, you have come of age. This hopeknife represents your responsibilities as an adult and defender of Trunau. You must be willing to use it on yourself, your fellow Trunauans, and your family—even me, should it come to that. Do you swear to guard Trunau from all comers, and to use your hopeknife only for its intended purpose?”

“If the orcs come, and there is no other option, this is where you cut—here, here, and here.” Gorkis demonstrates which arteries to sever while you watch. Then the hopeknife was sheathed and placed around your neck
